A thread discussing similar tropes. If thread participants agree that two (or more) tropes really don't seem distinct enough to be separate, one can start a thread in the Trope Repair Shop for further discussion.
Before asking "What's the difference between these tropes?", check the Canonical List of Subtle Trope Distinctions and Laconical List of Subtle Trope Distinctions lists. They may contain the answer. Feel free to contribute to them, too.
I've decided to start a new cleanup thread dealing with trope similarities. This thread is for discussing tropes that appear to be a duplicate of another trope, and if it's agreed upon that the two tropes talked about are similar enough, one should start a thread about it in the Trope Repair Shop.
I'll start with my issue...
Asian Hooker Stereotype and Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow are pretty much the same trope—they both involve a white man and an Asian woman.

Icon of Rebellion is about emblems or symbols representing a movement in universe while Movement Mascot is a character that is seen as a real life movement out of universe and is YMMV. They seem distinct to me but maybe them basically having the same image makes things confusing.

We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza:
- First one is used when a name is usually expected.

- How is that a concrete distinction?
- what do you mean by that?
Let's try with an example:
- Kantai Collection: you're playing as a Non-Entity General called "Admiral".
Between the two tropes, where would that fall into?
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza- Well, Canon Identifier says:
So, CI needs voice acting, it's created by limitations of the medium? Not requirement, but it's usually the explanation...
So, Link should be removed from the page? ... No, because it's not Prestigious or a Nickname.

They don't actually need to be a defined character in it, even implicitly — the page quote is from the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, which doesn't even have a story.
Canon Identifier is when a character who isn't canonically named is still canonically called something. The page description says it's exclusive to video games because it's meant to be about Player Characters who could go by any name, but I'm not entirely sure why that's a necessary part of the concept...?
Voice acting is definitely not the distinction between these things.

We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaIt's not a CCG trope, it's a trope that can exist in many types of games, including but not limited to CCGs. The point being that it's not restricted to games with a story and a need to identify a character whose name is uncertain.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Where would my example go, then?
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaBut it's supposed to be "us". The game uses a nickname for its player. Is that not Canon Identifier?

We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza- Deadpan and Soft Spoken aren't the same thing. Although... Ham and Energetic... Have high overlap in Large Ham-ness?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576- oh. I didn't know Cold Ham was a thing.
It seems like Cold Ham is "Energetic actions but voice sore fit."
While Dramatic Deadpan needs narrative tension and might be speech-only.
Based only on the quotes...

Edited by Dghcrh on Jul 1st 2020 at 1:29:38 PM
I'm mainly a fan of underrated media."Related". Comic-Book Time refers to the general sense that time in long-running fiction passes at the will of the writers, so characters remain in 'stasis'. eg. Batman has been fighting crime since the 1930s in real life, and supposedly all those events in the last 90 years still happened, but the timeframe in which they did continues to change to keep Batman at the prime of his life.
Meanwhile, Not Allowed to Grow Up refers to the specific act of keeping child characters as children.

The page was created in 2007, when Main/ was unlocked and people could just throw ideas out there with no process to make sure they were useful ideas.
It might need TRS.
