Apparently some people find it easier to copy-paste text from other sources, including Wikipedia or the creator's original site, instead of coming up with their own text.
However, this could get the website in a ton of legal trouble for plagiarism and/or copyright violations. (Not to mention it's lazy writing to boot.) Since stopping that problem is a very high priority, and I've observed multiple cases of this problem as of late, let's give this its own dedicated clean-up thread. If you see any work, character, or recap descriptions that copy another source word-for-word, bring them up here if you're not sure how to immediately fix them.
Moderator notice: If you cannot immediately rewrite plagiarized text, remove it and put in a placeholder note. A sample follows:
[This description was copied in violation of our [[Administrivia/AboutImagesAndCopyright Plagiarism]] policy. Please replace it with original writing.]
Below is a list of currently known pages that suffer from this problem, and the source they copy from. (This list can be updated by mods or by me, Totemic Hero.) The ideal goal is to have these pages fixed within a week or two of finding out about the copy-paste. If we can't manage to come up with a fix in that time frame, then we'll probably have to outright Cut List said pages, because the site can't risk legal issues.

Film. The Greatest Show On Earth has some information transferred from Wikipedia.
Many games in the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre suffer from copied-and-pasted character bios. I've already helped fix Characters.Dota 2, but these games still have descriptions taken directly from official sources.
- Characters.Smite
- Characters.Awesomenauts
- Characters.Heroes Of Newerth
- Characters.Strife
- Characters.Vainglory (On certain characters only, others have only a short sentence descriptor which seems to be original)
In the Western Animation section of Vile Villain, Saccharine Show, the entry for the Emperor of the Night from a Pinocchio film is a copy paste of his Complete Monster entry. That should be fixed.
Please allow me to introduce myself, I am a man of wealth and taste. Nice to meet you, hope you can guess my name.Groove Squad is currently a copy of the Wikipedia description with no tropes
Working on cleaning up List of Shows That Need SummaryI took it to the crash rescue thread, because they're better suited for dealing with the other issues around that page.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)The description of Camberwick Green is the same as Wikipedia's
Working on cleaning up List of Shows That Need SummarySince this is recent, I'll page ~Tropers/{{793ws}} to come in to answer for copy-pasting the description from Wikipedia on both the above mentioned WesternAnimation.Camberwick Green as well as a partial case of the same on Literature. My Thomas Story Library.
If they don't show, well...
Edit: Blast, the paging markup didn't work. Hold on.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)~Tropers/793ws - Please see the above.
Okay, so now we know paging doesn't work if you start your troper name with a number. Time for a PM.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I thought that someone, somewhere would come up with an original description for the show someday.
That's not how this works. When you make a work's page, you're expected to come up with the original description yourself. Copy-pasting from other sources is plagiarism, which is a big no-no. (Doubly so for doing it from Wikipedia pages, which can get the site into actual legal trouble.)
Please try and rewrite the descriptions on the pages noted above to be original as soon as you are able (preferably within the next few weeks; otherwise, me or some other troper will have to do it). And please don't do it again.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Repairman Jack claims to have been copied from wikipedia. It's also a quite old page. I believe it was part of the namespace migration, so there's probably no way to tell who was responsible at this point. I can nuke the description, but I don't really know the work, so I can't provide more than a sentence or two as replacement....
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Literature.Repairman Jack is now fixed.
Seeing as they have not been fixed as of this point, Literature. My Thomas Story Library and WesternAnimation.Camberwick Green are now on the list.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Working backwards a bit since I know I skipped some stuff (my apologies):
Film. The Greatest Show On Earth has been cleaned up.
~Zuxtron: I'll need some time to figure out how to best tackle the MOBA problem, so I'll get back to that one later. (We may need a dedicated thread to clean up character sheets in general.)
~Vampireandthen: This thread is not for examples ripping off of examples on other parts of the wiki. I'm not saying that doesn't need fixing (it certainly does), but this isn't the thread for that.
Finally, since WesternAnimation.Groove Squad still has a mostly Wikipedia-based description, I'm adding it to the list and paging ~TMNT Fan Girl to come in and chat.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)
I've done something similar for Dota 2 in the past. It took a long time, but I, along with some other users, managed to rewrite every hero's lore in our own words. I made a short-term project for it, so perhaps we should do the same for these games, either one thread per game, or a single megathread for all of them.
The only one of the games I've listed which I'm familiar enough with to help is Awesomenauts, so I may work on that one next.
Creator.Rene Auberjonois is the first part of the Wikipedia page
Also the description of ComicBook.Tomb Raider is taken from the wiki article

Working on cleaning up List of Shows That Need SummaryCalling in ~Charles Phipps and ~The Troper 1 to discuss these pages respectively.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I can fix the comic book section of Tomb Raider better.
Edit: I created a new write up for it.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Well, that "write-up" confirmed what I suspected from your post and your edit history - you have some grammar issues. (Plus you have the added problem of being a writer creating YMMV pages for your own works, which is against site rules.)
Sigh...
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I apologize for the mistakes and promise they won't happen again In the case of the grammar issues, I admit I was doing it quickly.
I'll correct it now.
Edit:
Yikes. Those were some pathetic typos. I really shouldn't do this while watching the Bachelor.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Alright, but one more thing before we're done...
I noticed you have made a bunch of pages for works you've written (whose YMMV pages I will be cutlisting in the near future, since work creators are not supposed to edit those pages). Can you confirm that you did not copy those descriptions from other sources (website blurbs, book descriptions, and the like)?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)1. I understand about the YMMV but could you not cutlist the ones which have had material added by other posters?
2. I did a double check on the other pages I've created and none seem to be a direct lift from the Other Wiki.
Edit:
I've gone through all of the pages I've created and I'm fixing Signal Airship series since I used its blurb.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. With the exception of the first sentence, the description of Record Of Grancrest War appears to be copied from the Wikipedia page for the series.
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellPaging ~Mr Terrorist (seriously, a username like that?) to come discuss this.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Ok, i finish rewriting the summary.
Thanks.
Edit: That feeling you get when you accidentally hit a second key as you send the post but don't know what that key was, realise all the posts in the thread have vanished... and then realise that you're the page topper on a new page and don't have the power to delete other people's posts anyway.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
