This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Yeah, if something only has a handful of wicks but a bunch of on page examples, cross wick it first.
A while back, JHD created a Project thread for cleaning up Idiot Programming and Idiot Design, and several posters indicated they see little value in the pages (at least as is). Don't know if this is the place to ask this, but should the two go to TRS? And if so (when the backlog clears,) what should I do to make the thread?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI don't think we need a thread there. That's not really an acute problem.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot to mention, Darth Wiki items, technically speaking, are not tropes.
and Ah, got it. I will leave the pages alone.

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallGood news. We are now 4 threads away before we are at the new cap. Any further, and we can finally have new threads created. Let's keep it up!
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportWe can use TRS on Darth Wiki items though, as sometimes they're not even worth having in there (i.e. Wall Banger).
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Idiot Programming and Idiot Design can't be linked to on non-Darth pages anyway, as with other Darth Wiki pages, so it's not like we'd have to clean up wicks instead of just cleaning up on-page examples.
That said, if people think they should be cut, then TRS would be the place to propose that (though personally, I'm not in favor of cutting them, since Darth Wiki is more lenient with complaining regardless).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. If things are moving along, maybe we could talk about ways to encourage greater participation in TRS? I'm feeling increasingly uncomfortable at how so few users keep making decisions that affect the entire site.
There's been a thread in Wiki Talk about that sort of thing for over a year now; if you want to revive the discussion, go there.
But we're really doing all we can. Between banners, ATT announcements, and Trope Report plugs, at some point we have to accept that people either don't care or aren't paying attention.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessMost people on the wiki aren’t interested in TRS and wiki work unless a trope they like is altered in some way. I don’t think there’s anything outside of what we already do now that would increase TRS participation.
I have noticed some new faces since we have started doing ATT announcements and Trope Report plugs though

Macron's notesWhat doesn't help is that you can't follow threads in that subforum, which means you always need to keep track of new posts yourself.
Optimism is a duty.In what subforum?
Ask The Tropers, for instance.
Optimism is a duty.A couple weeks ago I finished a wick check on Actor Allusion, but I'm hesitant to add it to the completed projects section on Wick Check Project because so many of the examples I found were no/low context. I noticed there was a conversation on this thread a couple pages back about that being an impediment to bringing a trope to TRS, because obviously it's harder to tell if there's an actual problem with misuse. Do I need to go through more examples?
(The wick check is here, btw: Actor Allusion Wick Check; also, it's possible I was overly strict with the criteria I used for determining if an example gave enough context)
Old Enough to Be Your Absurdly Youthful MotherOther factors you’ll want to consider: Actor Allusion is ancient, and a four year old TRS affirmed its definition distinct from Casting Gag but didn’t finish going through the wicks of those two tropes after sitting in TRS til last year. So I am thinking a cleanup is more warranted.

Question.
So when spots open up, I want to make a thread for Cinderella Circumstances due to that trope undergoing serious trope decay due to the title. I just realized though that The Girl Who Fits This Slipper might be undergoing similar misuse, that is, Cinderella-references rather than the actual trope at hand. If the wick check turns out similarly, would it make more sense to lump them? Or should I just do Cinderella Circumstances and then TGWFTS separately?
TGWFTS only has 100 wicks, so I might even just check all of them if I'm doing it separately.

Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think it would be most convenient to group the two together if the wick checks bring up similar results.
back lolI've never made a batch TRS before so I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work...though TGWFTS is so small that if we do it after Cinderella Circumstances it might make things easier, since one of my main ideas for Cinderella Circumstances is to make a new trope of the misuse. If that trope gets made, and there's similar issues with TGWFTS, that's an easier solution right there. But then again, that can also be done in batch format.
I guess it doesn't really matter, so I'll just do what works.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessCC and Slipper share 22 wicks rn, btw.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Hmmm...Not too much of an overlap, but that's about 20% of TGWFTS's usage...
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWere only one thread away from being able to make new ones.
CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesIn that case, to avoid a delay and miss my window, I'll only do Cinderella Circumstances. I need more time to prepare TGWFTS anyway.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Pureness
That's probably a matter of people not crosswicking their tropes, rather than a TRS-able issue.
