This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

We may need to discuss Spooky Kids Media versus Defanged Horrors. From what I can tell, Spooky Kids Media is "scary stuff made cute and adorable and appropriate for even little kids/families" and Defanged Horrors is "scary stuff that's appropriate for children to consume". I mistook Spooky Kids Media as a sort of index for Defanged Horrors-type media, but looks like some of the things listed before I added entries aren't a great fit, I wouldn't say something like Goosebumps isn't cute or sweet most of the time and is inappropriate for kids 7 and under (which this trope seems to include). The Ghostbusters movies I would say don't fit either. And there's a lot of crossover with Defanged Horrors.
At first, I was just going to clean the page, but do you think either one needs a rename to make it more clear? Is Spooky Kids Media distinct enough to stand on its own? I do think something like a Spooky Kids Media-trope exists, it probably just needs to the renamed to make it clearer, like Spooky Cute, Spooky Cute Aesthetic, Gentle Spookiness, Age Appropriate Horror, just spitballing.
Thanks, will do.

You're better off bringing that here.
It seems like the difference is that the former puts more of a focus on "spooky" themes, while the latter is about actual scariness. To elaborate: the former focuses on things that are commonly seen as "spooky" (ex. vampires, skeletons, ghosts) but doesn't have to actually be scary in any way, while the latter is more so about works aimed towards children that are frightening, but not too frightening for the target demographic.
There's definitely some ambiguity, however; I certainly wouldn't place Goosebumps under Spooky Kids Media either.

back lolSuper Weight is done, so ~War Jay 77 is up next with Extreme Doormat.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Hi, sorry for not being active the past few months. Been having some problems with another online community I'm a part of, which I won't disclose further lest it becomes drama importation. As it is, I've decided to cut down on my online activities for a while, especially things that require more intense work load like wick checks and clean-ups. For my TRS Queue on Fountain of Expies, I'll try to finish it once things are more stable, but if not, then feel free to remove it from the queue (unless someone else wants to take up the work).
Thanks for understanding.

~MaLady is up next now that Obvious Beta's thread is done, and their thread doesn't mention giving permission to launch.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Thanks for the notice... Can't find the discussions that said why we were thinking about Trivia-ing, so I'll toss our a guess.
Nevermind, found it.
And post written.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576What's the point of 24-Hour Trope Clock? It looks like an index, but it's written and organized more like a Useful Notes page, explaining what happens at each time of day like we need it explained to us how afternoon works. Some times of the day have no tropes at all. A lot of the dusk and night tropes overlap with (or could go into) Darkness and Shadows Tropes. If it's an index, it should be less wordy, and we do not need a Useful Notes on the day-night cycle because it's something literally everyone has first-hand experience with.
The cultural associations with each block of the day are relevant to the tropes indexed under each section, but I agree it's a bit wordy.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I don't mind it, I think the descriptions are fun.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah, I think it might be Just for Fun if anything.
yeah it should go to Just for Fun. if anything i think that page is a gold standard of it, just a collection of linked tropes that are interesting plus fun tidbits
hello
not sure if this is where it should go or if i should take it to Wiki Talk again, but i have raised objections before about TRS editors only using "trope was cut/disambiguated" instead of putting a link to the cut trope in the edit reason to easily check the disambiguation page
one issue i had is that it is just slightly better than previous cleanup efforts where it was stated "trope was cut" when it was in fact not; it does not imply that a replacement trope is available and i have to keep copy-pasting the trope to see what did replace it, if anything
i have been told that:
- it is not their responsibility to do more than cutting per TRS action and that it is up to other editors to do so
- autofill being disabled makes filling in "(trope link here) was disambiguated, please see the link for an appropriate replacement and cut if there is no replacement) more annoying
i dont want to sound like a callout thread so this is not aimed at anyone specifically because other editors have brought these up, i'd just like more opinions on this
on that note, when i participate in TRS cleanup, i do use notepad to copy-paste as needed and add comments if necessary; since this is subjective, is this clunky for anyone else?
hail, holy queen of the sea, you're whirling-in-rags, you're vast and you're sad24-Hour Trope Clock wouldn't need a wick check to get on the TRS Queue, right?
I don't think it does. Super Weight didn't have nor need one.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I closed Ghostwriter's thread due to inactivity, so paging ~Green Galaxy since they asked to be given a chance to launch their thread themselves.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. The slot got taken, but it's not a big deal between it being a Not Thriving thread and the Queue being informal.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Hey hey, I'm here. What do I need to do to launch the thread, again? I'd completely forgotten I made the TRS request but I'm still more than willing and ready to launch now that there's time.
"I used to long for time alone, I used to long for a place of my own..."You need to wait for another thread to close since someone grabbed the slot. Made On Demand isn't thriving, so that thread shouldn't take long to close.
Edit: And Extreme Doormat may be able to be closed after the description is rewritten, plus I bumped Ritual Magic's thread when I updated the OP, and that's another thread that I think just needs a description rewrite.
Edit: I just made some changes to the drafts for Extreme Doormat and Ritual Magic's descriptions, so maybe we could get those out of the way soon.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Paging ~Green Galaxy again since Made On Demand's thread is done since it was a Not Thriving thread.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Aaaaand someone sniped it again. Dunno if it's going to be open for very long, if at all.
Edited by MorganWick on Feb 18th 2024 at 4:45:32 AM
I opened it since it's for an index that's tied to a trope page it doesn't need to be separate from, so a wick check isn't needed. I'll probably just make the thread I sent the page for myself next time there's a free slot, since they gave permission for others to make it and simply asked for a chance to make it themselves, but they didn't get a chance.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Yeah, I was about to ask for that. My apologies for not being around to make it myself, I've been very busy with a new job and whenever I can check TV Tropes it's too late. :/
"I used to long for time alone, I used to long for a place of my own..."I noticed that I never got around to making OP's for the two Not Thrivings that I queue'd up (the ones labelled OP coming soon).
I should be off tomorrow, so I can write them up then.
In the meantime, Suddenly Voiced may have to get a round 2; I don't think the wick cleanup has been monitored since I saw another case of misuse, and the trivia proposal when we had the Trivia cleanup thread didn't get anywhere.
I'll do a wick check to see if a rename can help alleviate confusion with the splitoff trope.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportDo the Theory of Narrative Causality and Africa Is a Country threads on the queue need usage checks?
Being wick-starved being a less serious problem than other types of problems is a good point, so now I think I'm in favor of continuing what we were already doing.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
