Five-Man Band cleanup

Unlocking the page to remove stuff isn't the answer since it'll leave it open to further misuse.

In that case, can I get some help with the requests? I'm going over the anime subpages, and there's a lot of examples so it takes a bit of effort to point out all the misuse. I don't think I can do this by myself.

since the decision has been made to cut FBB, should that clean up effort become part of this thread?

If people want me to move the effort here then I can. Currently I'm removing wicks from trope pages but leaving ones from other pages intact so people can discuss them. Also I'm going to ask that people help me with that fist part because my schedule means that it's taking a while to get done.

could i make a proposal that for any example that's technically "good" and not misuse, it redirects to Five-Man Band? Such that if it works out that the example fits "Five Man Band but Evil" then it is in fact a FMB?

No, that is misuse, FMB is explicitly a trope for good guys, that's just as bad as merging the two and we've discussed why that's a bad idea before.

I feel like on the big page, all notes in the lists that apply to things like Team Pet and Tagalong Kid should be removed to shorten the page. That's not to say that it isn't a Five Man Band, but some of these instances make the band much larger than five.

If you're talking about Five Bad Band then here's why we shouldn't move examples or merge the tropes.

I would also be opposed to an outright merge for a Big Big/Dragon/Brute/Genius/Dark Chick team and calling them an "evil" FMB since we discussed how out least Big Bad, Dragon, and Dark Chick are fundamentally different than their counterparts.

What I meant is if you find and example that feels like Leader/Lancer/Big/Smart/Chick but they just happen to be antagonists or play for bad guys team.

it's no big deal either way, and i'm not sure how many examples we would even find that fit that. Just what to do if we hypothetically did.

It's been a while since I saw The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but I'm pretty sure Five Bad Band doesn't fit. Not so sure about Five-Man Band.

I've already deleted Tag Along Kid and Mooks since those aren't part of either.

I just checked and the character listed as Dark Chick is a man, so I've deleted the whole entry.

FBB is being cut anyway.

Kill It with Fire. While the tropes listed aren't (necessarily) shoehorned, there are eight of them, and none of them are FMB tropes (The Hero used to be).

I'm not sure about Iceman being The Big Guy. I've never been really into the X Men, but is he really a more fighty guy than the others?

might be a thing where technically Angel might be the Smart Guy since he has more tactical abilities, and Beast might be the big guy since he has more brawny abilities but subverted by being a Genius Bruiser instead of Dumb Muscle. And Iceman as the snarky one becomes The Lancer, but that's from a cursory look at their character page. I don't know much about the OG line up dynamics.

If you're having to go through that many gymnastics to get it to fit, it's starting to sound like shoehorning.

Aren't the original X-Men in the pic for one of the Comic Book subpages? If they're removed, the pic should go too.

^ Just removed this from Drawn to Life. The fact that a male character is "The Chick" is enough, beyond that the roles seem pretty shoe-horned.

yeah 8 people in 7 roles isn't an FMB.

The very first entry under the "X-Men and Related Teams" folder in FiveManBand.Comic Books includes Jubilee under "Kid-Appeal Character," which to my knowledge is not part of the Five-Man Band. Most of the rest of the entries in that folder look at least as bad. Also, they are overwhelmingly Zero Context Examples. I'd suggest some serious cleanup.

Edit: Actually, looking through the FMB subpages, all of them are 90-95% ZCEs. Was there a decision made somewhere that FMB was exempt from the wiki's normal context rules? If it were up to me, I'd burn the entire example section to the ground and start over.

Relatedly, the way all Five-Man band examples are formatted directly contradicts the Five-Man Band example on Example Indentation in Trope Lists. Which is correct?

I think a decision was made way early in this thread that FMB is exempt to the indentation rule due to essentially tvtropes Grandfather Clause, and the way its formatted on the main FMB trope page itself. But you could call a mod to verify.

I've seen it vary from page to page tho.
