So. Personal opinions on the main wiki aren't allowed, be they gushing or bashing. Now, bashing gets tolerated even less than gushing, and that makes sense; it leads to more flamewars.
But that doesn't mean we have to live with all the gushing either. This thread can serve as a center for keeping it in check. One function might be to alert people to pages that are really heavy in gushing, to the point that it's not just a quick fix and will need some assistance.
This is in the description for VideoGame.Painkiller:
For a while, Painkiller owned the unique distinction of being THE MOST METAL GAME EVER, finally being overtaken by Brütal Legend, which was then overtaken by Doom (2016).
This seems gushy to me, but I'm not entirely sure what this means.
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license.A lot of the description is very gushy and should probably be rewritten, but that especially can be taken out, partially because it doesn't really mean anything since that's not an official title/ranking.
I tried to take out as much of the gushing (and bashing) as possible.
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license. In the description of The Ballad of the N-Word, does this sound kinda gushy?
Sounds gushy to me. From reading the whole description on the page, I wouldn't be surprised if the creator himself wrote it.
I have a couple things that might be a little on the gushy side:
First, from the Web Animation folder of Ms. Fanservice:
- Joanna Dark from Perfect Kirby is unbearably sexy with large breasts, hot lips, shiny hair, strong legs, voluptuous arms, firm butt, beautiful eyes, great abs, soft voice, pretty much everything you could love in a woman. Although she doesn't have much screen time in the regular episodes, she does appear in the shorts more often and appears in bikinis and less clothing a lot. Even that's nothing compared to pictures on the (now defunct) website, showing her in a revealing red hot bikini. Creator Pikanjo is very good at drawing beautiful women in general, as pretty much every female in his cartoons could qualify, even the extras. Joanna is breathtakingly hot even among them.
Second, this line from the description of lonelygirl15,
Thoughts?
Yeesh. That first one was definitely written with one hand.
The second one also has no meaning outside of the troper gushing.
SoundCloudYeah the first one's pretty gross. It could probably have been run by the P5 lewdness cleanup too. Agree with on both fronts.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallIn Angel Densetsu's description:
It has more Trope Tropes than Tropes.
This really feels like a relic of older days where gushing about how "troperiffic" a work is in the description was more common. Can I remove this?
THE GOLDEN AGE WILL RETURN AGAIN!Yeah, cut that one out-of-place sentence.
Series/Extras has a paragraph that feels a little gushy:
Packed a massive array of celebrity guests into its twelve episodes, and in fact the (officially untitled) episodes have often been referred to by names such as "Kate Winslet" or "Ben Stiller". Perhaps more impressively, the show has been extremely successful in getting actors to play versions of themselves who are incredibly conceited, or vicious, or vain, or stupid, or otherwise horrible human beings.
I would change it to something like:
It had so many celebrity guests during its twelve episodes that the (officially untitled) episodes are often referred to by who was guest-starring. They were often playing versions of themselves, but a very conceited, vain or stupid way.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. Can someone more familiar with Johnny Depp reword this entry to be less... well, "gushy" is putting it lightly?
- Doing It for the Art: Story of his life. He never just "plays a role," he looks at it from all angles and creates someone never seen before in film out out of bits and pieces of Crazy Is Cool. His buddy Burton wants to re-imagine Frankenstein? Meet that awkward wallflower from the back of the class who'd never raise his hand to anyone, let alone his voice. Want him to play Hunter S. Thompson? He'll move into the man's house and honestly become his best friend so he can do it perfectly! Soulless money-worshippers want to make a Merchandise-Driven movie based on a theme park ride - and have a sex symbol as a plain 'ol Pirate? Not a chance in hell. He'll be the first rock-star pirate and you will love it whether you like it or not!
As is, that whole entry should be cut. There's not a single line about Depp prioritizing art over profit, and that's what that trope is about.
- Visual Effects of Awesome: Of a sort. When she describes how she gets frustrated at the books she reads, they're incredibly vivid metaphors. They range from the simple ("Book, meet wall") to the vivid (she's described how she'll brutally maim a book on several occasions).
This feels like the entry is gushing about her choice of words when bashing books she dislikes. Also, the "Of a sort" part makes me think that this is a "Playing With a YMMV entry", which isn't allowed (the source is textual blog posts and I can't see how Visual Effects of Awesome can fit flowery descriptions and prose).
THE GOLDEN AGE WILL RETURN AGAIN!Agree that it should go.
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdThis is the first sentence of the description for VideoGame.Tai Fu Wrath Of The Tiger. Would this be considered gushing?
Back in 1999, a somewhat less-known company known as DreamWorks Interactive would produce one of the era's unsung legends—an epic kung-fu tale of a solitary warrior named T'ai Fu.
Avatar by Butterscotch Arts. Used under license. It could be rewritten as "Back in 1999, a then little-known company called Dream Works Interactive produced a kung-fu epic of a solitary warrior named T'ai Fu."
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. From Sports Night:
That can be easily cut, since it adds little to the overall description.
Does this entry on YMMV.Animorphs read like a "badge of honour" to anyone else?
In particular, I'm struggling to think of how the part I bolded (under the spoiler tag) is relevant.
This is the image caption for Bambi II:
- “A DTV Disney sequel that is actually pretty good? What madness is this?!”
Do I just replace it with the tagline in the poster? Or something else?
Edit: I’ll just put the tagline
Edited by Rhino8888 on May 15th 2022 at 11:23:55 AM
The tagline's kinda redundant cuz it's on the poster right above it. It can honestly go captionless.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Found this odd bit of gushing that I bolded in Fanfic. My Brave Pony Starfleet Magic:
- Villain Decay:
- Discord, god of chaos and, in general, considered one of the best characters in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, is reduced to a brainwashed monster henchman of Big Bad Titan near the end of the story and loses his reality warping abilities. To add insult to injury, he gets Killed Off for Real by Celestia.
This sentence didn't age well.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!
I agree that it's too gushy.
We don't sweep with a broom, no~
