Fanfic Ideas You're Sure Only You Think Are Good

A modern-day AU for The Legend of Zelda where Hyrule is a major American city. It'd be based on Grand Theft Auto, with Link as a small-time crook and Zelda as a wealthy heiress with ties to The Mafia and white-collar corporate crime.

I am a sucker for that kind of AU and I would read the fornication out of that.

I've been a Transformers fan since roughly 2008. During that time, I've read many fanfics, and many of them have been Megatron/Starscream fics.

Of those fics, I've noticed that several of them share a similar plot: "Crown Prince (or at least rich mech) Starscream falls in love with humble miner/gladiator Megatron". But at no point have I ever seen the inverse - y'know, "Rich mech Megatron falls in love with poor mech Starscream". So, basically, that's my idea - a story in which Megatron is rich (maybe even nobility) and Starscream is a homeless street mech.

Of course, I still need to figure out the details. So far, other than the inversion I mentioned, I have one idea - Galvatron is Megatron's uncle (as opposed to his father/son/brother, as is so common in fics where they're separate characters).

What do we think?

Talk in the anime's section FMA thread made me look up FMA fics again to see if I missed anything and... Nope. There are still virtually no Ed/Rose fics. I've always heard that there was a large Ship-to-Ship Combat yet neither Fanfiction Dot Net or Archive of Our Own have other 20 2003-verse Edrose fics.

I'd like a COS rewrite with Rose as an important character. At least let her see off Ed. Heck, how about an AU where she meets Noah? I don't think I've even read a fic where Ed notices that Noah looks like Rose.

I want more modern Zelda fics set in a modern Urban Fantasy version of Hyrule. Keep everything - the lore, races, regions, religion, reincarnation, etc - but make it 21st century style instead of in a permanent Medieval Stasis. Zelda can be modern royalty, a wealthy descendant of royalty, or whatever.

Speaking of AU's, I had an idea for yet another modern AU of sorts.

Well, more like an AU set in The '90s but still. I'm thinking it would be a Final Fantasy AU that is essentially set in an old-school Survival Horror game from the old Playstation 1 era. I'm not sure if I want to only have characters from a single Final Fantasy game (probably XV) or if I want to include characters from several FF games (and maybe Kingdom Hearts too) since it is an AU set in the 90's and heavily inspired by the early Resident Evil games and their many clones such as Deep Fear, Over Blood, Countdown Vampires, and Evil Dead: Hail To The King.

Noctis would definitely be the main character since he's my favorite.

Currently, I've got a Daemon X Machina X Muvluv crossover stuck in my head. It involves the Inherit The Stars ending of Dx M with Daemon guiding humanity even through the BETA invasion in secret. However, once the Invasion of Japan starts Daemon decides to rush the uplift process and breaks out his old Arsenal and a couple hundred canisters of Femto particles.

The BETA are driven back (i.e. exterminated) and over half of Japan is exposed to Femto particles. In most people, it does little to nothing, passing in and out of the body with no notable interaction. In some people, they get sick as their body fails to change.

And in rare cases, people turn into Outers. This is were the story starts, with Daemon teaching the 207b training squad, a squad composed entirely of Outers, how to fight like Reclaimers.

A real person fic where Andy Warhol dies and gets reincarnated as Dracula but kinda looking like Vince Vaughn. He accidentally becomes the figurehead of a fascist party when he starts a new art collective. His main assistant is Danny Devito, trying to hold him back from darkness by warning the naïve Andy about the people commissioning the art and giving him rare-cooked steak so he doesn't have to suck people's blood. The fascists are about to use Andy to give legitimacy to their new terrorist attack and Andy has realised too late that his art is being used for evil ends. The whole thing takes a somewhat abrupt Halfway Plot Switch, however, when the real Vince Vaughn sues the fascist party for using his likeness without his permission and he has a case because Andy looks EXACTLY like him (Artistic License – Law). The rest of the fic is about Andy hanging with Vince on the set of The Internship and having romantic relations with a morbidly obese version of Shilo from Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Alright, it's a Doctor Who and Steven Universe crossover, but probably not with the cast you'd expect. The more or less protagonist is the Rodger Delgado Master, whose damaged TARDIS lands in Beach City (in what he works out very quickly is a different timeline) and the individual chapters would basically be The Master launching plots to spy on the Crystal Gems, steal Gem artifacts and eventually Homeworld technology to repair his TARDIS. He wouldn't be written into every event, but to make a comparison if this were real there'd be 2-3 "Master" episodes mixed into each season alongside the actual ones.

In fitting with the cartoon's thematic makeup and inspired by Delgado's first and best performance in Terror of the Autons whatever group of humans he's currently worked his way inside of and controls is written in an allegorical manner to various unhealthy relationship dynamics. If a person he needs to manipulate has daddy issues, The Master's fake human identity will have a warm, fatherly manner to endear their trust. Workers and soldiers under him develop into self-sacrificing cults of personality, and his hypnosis actually works incredibly well on Homeworld Gems due to them being built for servitude, and he would take obvious delight in having a mindless Gem soldier as a personal servant, both for the power he holds over them and for the disgust it garners in others. Of course, none of these feelings are ever returned, and The Master would gladly kick each and every one of them off a cliff if it meant Steven would jump off to save them and he could escape.

The character arc of Steven learning more about his enemies is The Master letting slip about his complicated relationship with The Doctor and their falling out, which I headcanon as being related to Susan but don't know if it would come up here. In the end, possibly after some crazy plan where he tries to download his personality into every Gem in the cosmos from the Homeworld or something, The Master flees back into his finally working TARDIS, Steven having told him, in the end, to just try and meet The Doctor halfway, confident that if he heals his break in that relationship The Master will become good. It could be ambiguous if this genuinely lead to a different version of this character or if the idea is specific serial The Master is headed for will play out completely the same as the TV version, meaning he learned nothing and basically escaped that timeline scott free with everything he wanted.

Now, to be fair, despite the title of the thread even I could see what could go wrong here. The tone and just getting it presented tastefully would be a nightmare to write, which would only get more complicated due to the story following a villain protagonist. It's a super idealized, very considerate and thoughtful kind of issue exploring story colliding head on with very, very black comedy, but I think it'd be very important for both sides of the cast to feel very authentic to their source series so as to see what happens when they actually crash together. The Doctor/Master ship would be played completely seriously but the Master's plans are at plastic chair levels of goofy murderous while his personal relationships are unsubtle allegories for emotional abuse. I can see all that being a tough sell for readers and a tall order to write but the whole idea still feels incredible.

A fanfic for The Simpsons, where Marge discovers that she was accidentally Switched at Birth with another baby, and sets out to find her biological family.

I saw an FE 3 H x Granblue mashup and while it had some interesting ideas, I thought it'd be better to focus on Primals as a Dragon equivalent and go from there.

Typed up some vague character analogues and now I'm too tired and don't have much time to type my reasoning for them right now so maybe I'll edit them in later.

A Toy Story-inspired AU where the various characters of Neon Genesis Evangelion (and other anime as well) are toys and dolls, with Shinji Ikari as a cowboy ragdoll, Kaworu Nagisa as a space ranger action figure, Rei Ayanami as a timid monster doll, Asuka as a snarky Don Rickles-inspired character, and so on

A Half-Life 'fic that explores the Seven Hour War and the events of Half-Life 2... from the point of view of a Combine Advisor. I have a theory that the Combine aren't merely imperialist conquerors - they seem too beyond The Singularity for that - but they believe that they're doing humanity a favour by subsuming them into their universal union; they're preserving them in the face of a pointless and slow extinction at the hands of an uncaring multiverse, after all, even if they [the Combine] had to wipe out two-thirds of the population and enslave the rest to get it done. The viewpoint character would doubtlessly spell this out in its conversation with Dr. Breen as he tries to convince them that humanity is worth preserving.

I'm loath to admit that I came up with this idea after watching a couple reviews of Hunt Down the Freeman, and thought to myself 'wow, this game blows chunks. I could come up with a better Half-Life fanfic than this dreck'. Admittedly, that is a bit of a low bar to clear... :V

A Spyro the Dragon fanfic where the dragon realms have been invaded by evil robotic duplicates of the characters, with a robot Spyro named Spyrobot leading them. Spyro and Red (who slowly develops into a hero over the course of the story) have to team up in order to take them down.

My Pokémon region, Ciele, is trapped under a dome, but occasionally opens every few years or so. Protagonist gets in mysteriously ahead of schedule to meet his/her father who turns out to be Mew. Fights eight pre-gyms (can’t get affiliated if you’re stuck in a dome), three angry birds who drop Emblems of Pain needed to expose Mewtwo, other trainer some of whom are inspired by speed runners, Nuzlockers and Twitch Plays Pokemon trainerbots, a masked eco-terrorist, a mercenary, a very likeable rival who doesn’t want to work in a restaurant (but do try the fried Goldeen and chips), a lab where they do the experiments you wish you could like separating Kangaskhan and brain surgery on Doduo, two different Ditto disguised as humans (movie beat me to it, yes), a creepy new box system that the Porygon took over, and an official unofficial League (an evolutionary psychological philosopher who thinks we’ve been scared of heights for millions of years but need to stop now, a former nuzlocker and speedrunner in a forbidden romance double battle, a cancer patient, the other Ditto, and a corrupt Champ who thinks that her telling everyone how to manage waste and resources that kept everyone alive and she needs to stay in charge). Also the TM company has a huge monopoly and bought her out. Her financial and controlling interests are based on the barrier staying up, but lifting the barrier is risky without beating Mewtwo.

I'm planning to right a comedy fic based on Devil Survivor 2. The idea is that the protagonist is literally standing in the middle of the various endgame factions as each of them try to persuade him to join them. All of them are a bit... exaggerated. Yamato goes from being a social darwinist to being a hardcore objectivist, Fumi plans to light Daichi on fire as part of an experiment, Ronaldo's For Great Justice schtick starts to sound like The Tick, etc. The whole thing with Io and Lugh becomes them Sharing a Body, with Lugh not exactly caring much about social mores or modesty (In the sense of having a lot of ego). And getting into a big shouting match when somebody summons Cu Chulainn and Balor. And the Anguished One tries to get people to join him because he has doughnuts.

I was wanting to get a little feedback about one of the planned jokes, though. Do you guys think that Joe mentioning a manga called Zettai! IRA Girls would be in too bad of taste?

I have two, both crossovers.

One is an idea I've had for a while of putting various Discworld characters into the world of Darkest Dungeon. It started with me naming my man-at-arms in the game "Vimes" and I went from there. Still no further plot ideas than that.

I still think the idea is kind of interesting, if half-baked. Comedy characters in a gothic horror world is fun, but I don't know if I'm gonna write it. It'd be almost comically niche.

The other is a crossover between The Legend of Korra and Pacific Rim. The idea is that some spirit mumbo jumbo creates a rift in reality during the battle with Kuvira's colossus and for... reasons, it gets swapped with a jaeger in Pacific Rim's universe during a battle. So Korra and Kuvira (the two inside when the colossus was transported) are forced to work together to beat a kaiju and are recruited by the Pan Pacific Defense Corps (maybe with the colossus being converted into a jaeger, haven't decided yet).

The main problem with that one is how contrived the premise seems, with the massive coincidence of the big robot arriving in the "big robots" universe, but I can't deny that it holds a stupid kind of appeal for me.

Those are my crackiest ideas at the moment. I've never written a crossover, and hearing my ideas for them should make it rather clear why .

I have one idea of jojo bizarre aventure on were dio wake up early when part 2 is still starding and deciding he want the stone mask with the super asia in it.

Meaning he could team up with joseph or try to join the pillar man to double cross them.

self insert fic where the self insert is utterly scared, nervous and mad about his situation, as he is helplessly transported between dimensions and universes with seemingly no end in sight, struggling to navigate through the worlds he's teleported into and only surviving via Genre Savvy.

I'd read that. Presuming it was connected to fandoms I knew enough about to follow the plot, at least. (That's a pretty low bar; I've read a lot of Naruto fic for someone who's never watched Naruto.)

That sounds like Sleeping with the Girls! It hasn't been updated since 2017, though.

After seeing a tweet which says "Asuka (of Evangelion) is a Mixed Kid with Mixed Angst", I would love to see a fanfic exploring this take on Asuka. Like maybe after her mom died, Asuka's mother's father tries to keep Asuka connected to Japanese culture as a way to keep Asuka connected to her mother, but her father(among others) make fun of Asuka for doing it, leading to a complex that sees Asuka putting her Japanese heritage by the wayside by the time the series starts. And then in a slightly more positive Evangelion AU, Asuka could be seen making an effort trying to get more involved with rediscovering her mother's heritage as way of connecting with her. Of course, I know I'm one of very few people that would be interested in this, but I still love the idea of it nonetheless.

I was thinking of an idea of making a massive, feature length Rom hack of the Sonic The Hedgehog games, adapting the various games, fixing the various bugs and more just to do something like Pac-Man World 3 Storyline style of an audio drama in the context of the Sonic X series.

Sonic The Hedgehog will be going through his 75th birthday when he is teleported into South Island. Specifically Green Hill Zone. Chris Thorndyke had tried to teleport him to his new lab but a miscalculation teleported Sonic to the Bootstrapped First Zone known as Green Hill Zone. —- ("The Signal's bad, here! Some Idiot teleported me into the Bootstrapped First Zone of the entire Audio Drama!")

("Is that clearer? You shouldn't rush to judgement Sonic. Teleportation not so easy, especially with Ring Energy.") ("Chris? Is that you? Are you by any chance the idiot of whom we speak?")

("I had pinpoint control of the 'porter till you squirmed. I would try to port you again but I can't lock on. Where are you?")

a silly interactive quest thingie like MSPA, where you, yes, YOU are now an employee in a mysterious organization that spreads across Time And Space very creatively called the Wish Fulfilling Organization. it is your task to:
= send guests of all kinds into adventures of their dreams
= manipulate events so that they dont die a horrible death
= fend off several kinds of a Mary-Sue Hunter
= and most importantly, fix the broken canon the guests leave behind. it is vital, for we do not want to be hounded by the PPC or something worse.

have fun! be polite! grant wishes! and try not to die yourself!
