Trivia / It's Pat!

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: The movie only grossed $60,822 on an $8 million budget. Perhaps Touchstone Pictures realized they had a bomb on their hands, as it only saw release in three cities and was yanked out from those cities' cinemas after the weekend.
  • Channel Hop: This film was originally written to be produced by 20th Century Fox.
  • Creator Killer: Adam Bernstein was a highly-regarded music video director (working with, among others, The B-52s, Public Enemy and They Might Be Giants, plus Ween, explaining why they're in this movie) and was looking to successfully transition to film with this project. Instead, it bombed so hard it basically killed his film directing career right out of the gate. He's only directed two smaller films since, but has gone on to an extremely distinguished career in television, counting the likes of Scrubs, 30 Rock, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul among his credits.
  • Deleted Role: Two cameos that ended up on the cutting-room floor: Harvey Keitel as a priest and Jonathan Richman as Pat's father.
  • Direct to Video: Outside North America (unsurprisingly).
  • Franchise Killer: Often seen as the point where Saturday Night Live-based movies went from developing one-note character to milking one joke for 90 minutes. Not only have SNL movies since been few and far between, but nearly all have been doomed to the same criticism and been massive financial and critical failures (the only major exception being A Night at the Roxbury, which at least managed to break even on its initial release, and despite an initially mediocre reception is now regarded as a Cult Classic).
  • Missing Trailer Scene: A trailer showed a scene where Kyle expresses his determination to find out Pat's gender, with the screen pretty much dominated by red lighting. This doesn't happen in the film.
  • The Other Darrin: In the original sketches, Chris was played by Dana Carvey, but in this movie Chris is played by Dave Foley.
  • Uncredited Role: Quentin Tarantino (yes, really) did an uncredited rewrite.
  • Word of Saint Paul: In November 2016, during an interview with Norm Macdonald, it's revealed to everyone that Chris Farley mentioned to Norm that Pat's gender was, in fact, female.

  • In addition to being a serious bomb, It's Pat was released at the end of the week that saw Disney/Touchstone studio boss Jeffrey Katzenberg be forced to resign from the firm under bad circumstances. This happened on that Wednesday due to a multitude of factors, with his ego clashing with company boss Michael Eisner, being overaggressive with his campaign to succeed the recently deceased Frank Wells as company president (which stressed out a lot of people including Walt's nephew Roy E. Disney and Eisner), and greenlighting the marketing team of Aladdin to promote the Genie character against contract (which turned Disney into an enemy for Robin Williams) being the cited problems.
  • Coincidentally, some people who worked on this film also took part in Pulp Fiction, of all things: Julia Sweeney, Kathy Griffin, Phil LaMarr (who had a bit part as stage manager at Ween's concert), Stephen Hibbert (the man in the Gimp costume who was one of the credited screenwriters on this film) and Quentin Tarantino himself, who worked on the script uncredited because of his friendship with Sweeney.
