Trivia / GRIDMAN UNIVERSE

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Katsuyuki Konishi voices the "college boy" who's actually Rikka's brother (under the pseudonym of Leo Kaminaga) in addition to reprising his role as Max from SSSS.GRIDMAN.
    • Both Kenichi Suzumura and Karin Takahashi play double duty, the former as "Knight" and Anti, and the latter as "The 2nd" and the Kaiju Girl.
  • Casting Gag: All The Cameo Ultras from the live show are are characters who were, at one point or another, voiced by members of either the GRIDMAN or DYNɅZENON casts.
  • Content Leak: The official blu-rays were slated to be sold starting from October 25th, 2023. However, just under two weeks prior, someone had managed to rip the movie (in 360p)... from an in-flight movie on a plane.
  • Lying Creator: Interviews claimed that Akane, having gone through her story in SSSS.GRIDMAN, would not appear in the movie. That couldn't be farther from the truth.
  • Recast as a Regular: Nobutoshi Canna previously voiced Gilarus, the first Kaiju fought during Denkō Chōjin Gridman. Here, he voices Mad Origin, the Big Bad.
  • Referenced by...: Before it even officially released in theatres, an announcement was made that the movie would make its Super Robot Wars debut as a Limited Time Entry in DD.
  • Sleeper Hit: Due to the date of the movie's release, there were many competitors especially Shin Kamen Rider who had a similar fan base, causing them to not have high expectations for its success. But the response to the film far exceeded their expectations. In its first week of showings, it had the highest per-screen average revenue for films that screened in more than 100 theaters that weekend. It also managed to survive at the box office alongside other spring blockbusters like Doraemon and Detective Conan, not including the fast-selling movie merchandise.
  • What Could Have Been: Director Amemiya said in the interview about the different ideas he had for the movie
    • First idea: Yomogi's mother and Kamijo-san get married. Kamijo-san has a stepdaughter the same age as Yomogi. Yume is annoyed that Yomogi lives with his stepdaughter. In the end, the story is about Mr. Kamijo's stepdaughter, who has various problems to solve, the Gridman group is a guest, and the enemies are Alexis-like twins.
    • Second idea: The Gridman side takes the stage and focuses on Yuta's confession, but a new character, a pink-haired girl, is a psychopath and likes Yuta, so she interferes with Yuta and Rikka. The enemy is Benkei in this idea.
    • In the end, they decided to go with the existing characters without adding any new ones. After that, Director Amemiya couldn't come up with a good idea, so he stopped work for two weeks, and in the end, he turned everything he had considered upside down and came up with the idea of Gridman becoming a universe.
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise: Gridman fans in the west who hadn't had a chance to watch the movie at the time were spoiled on a major reveal, namely Akane returning complete with a new outfit not even a month after the movie was released in Japanese theaters due to said reveal being announced to be receiving its own figurine.
  • You Look Familiar: Masaya Obi, the actor behind protagonist Naoto from Denkō Chōjin Gridman, plays a dude on a bike that Yuta meets.
