Trivia / Bobby's World

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Howie Mandel voices Bobby and his father, Howard.
  • Adored by the Network: Not so much by its original network (Fox Kids), but by literally anyone else. Kabillion loves the show to death, putting it on their cable on demand service and even YouTube, bringing the series to a whole new generation and sparking interest in a revival.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Derek Generic initially averted this due to being voiced by Ken Michaels, but then played it straight from late season 6 inward when Pamela Adlon took over the role.
  • The Danza: Besides his usual role as Bobby, Howie Mandel also voices his father, "Howard".
  • Dueling Works: In 1991, this show shared the same time slot as Yo Yogi! did on NBC. Bobby's World won this duel, as it lasted a total of 81 episodes over the course of seven seasons, whereas Yo Yogi! only lasted thirteen episodes over the course of one season. Not helping Yo Yogi's case was that it aired on the lowest-rated Saturday Morning cartoon block at the time, which NBC abandoned in September of 1992 thanks to the combined failures of it, ProStars, Space Cats, and Wish Kid.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • Rescued. Disney briefly owned the series for a few years after acquiring the Fox Kids catalog in 2001 (prior to that, the show had a few Fox VHS tapes and had been rerun on Freeform when it was Fox Family), but after airing the show briefly on foreign Fox Kids/Jetix networks, Disney promptly sold the rights back to Howie Mandel in 2004. Mandel promptly got to work on putting the show on DVD, and a few short-lived individual episode compilations later, a complete series box set of the series commenced in 2012, as an Amazon.com exclusive. The show can also be seen on Kabillion on Demand and YouTube. Surprising treatment for a Fox Kids show that hasn't been seen for a while.
    • A rom of the cancelled SNES game was released on the internet. Its near-finished and fully playable, enough for reproduction carts to be made for it.
  • Kids' Meal Toy:
    • In 1994, McDonald's released four figures of Bobby with snap-on parts. There was him on roller skates with a roller coaster car, him in a wagon with a convertible, him on an inner tube with a submarine, and him on a tricycle with a rocket ship.
    • In 1995, Subway released a set of four figures of Bobby in different outfits. Besides his normal attire, there were also figures of him dressed as a knight, a cowboy, and an astronaut.
    • In 1995, Dairy Queen released a set of four toys. These consisted of the Twister Adventure, Bobby's Bulldozer, the Globe Trotter, and Suction Webbly. These toys were re-issued in 1996 as Carl's Jr. and Boston Market's Kids' Meal toys, but with Rollin' Roger in place of the Globe Trotter. The re-issued toys were also given different names; Twister Adventure became Bobby's Silly Scramber, Bobby's Bulldozer became Bobby's Double-Duty Dozer, and Suction Webbly became Wacky Webbly.
    • In 1996, Hardee's released a set of five circus figures. They consisted of Bobby as a ringmaster, Uncle Ted as a clown, Captain Squash as a weightlifter, Webbly in a ring, and Roger on a ball.
    • In 1999, Wendy's released a set of five toys. These included a puzzle, a basketball game, a memory game, and Bobby in a chair and a robot.
  • Long-Runners: Despite having minimal promotion from Fox Kids, the show lasted for eight years, which was the longest out of any Fox Kids animated series and held the title of the longest running Fox Kids series until 2001, when Power Rangers reached its ninth season.
  • The Other Darrin: Near the end of season 6, Pamela Adlon replaced Ken Michaels as Derek Generic.

    • Deal or No Deal: Bobby makes a brief appearance in Season 2, Episode 44, where Donato DeMarinis admits to being a fan of his show. The banker then brings an animated Bobby out to tempt him to take the deal. Howie Mandel, who hosts Deal, reprised his role as Bobby.
    • The Nostalgia Critic has reviewed the show as part of his Fox Kids review.
    • Ukinojoe: In "90's Nick", Nick says "Remember Bobby's World? It was a good show! You're too young to remember. It was a good show!"
  • Vaporware:
  • What Could Have Been: Several video games based on the show were planned to be released by Hi Tech Expressions. The SNES version was an action platformer with five different levels based on Bobby's fantasies, while the Game Boy version was a Dolled-Up Installment of a cancelled Home Alone game called Home Alone 2: Kevin's Dream, with Bobby in place of Kevin and Derek in place of Harry and Marv. A Sega Genesis game called It's Bobby's World was also planned, though it is unknown if it would have been a port of the SNES version modified to fit the Genesis' technical specifications or a completely different game. These games were never officially released due to Hi Tech Expressions going out of business by 1995, though roms of the SNES and Game Boy versions have been leaked and can be played through either emulation or reproduction cartridges.
