Tropes

  • Accidental Murder: When Victoria attempts to shoot him, Norville did intend to block the bullet, but didn't expect the bullet to break a pillar that would impale Victoria and kill her.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: When Velma becomes scared that she might die in the finale, she leaves Norville a voicemail that ends with her realizing she loves him.
  • Artistic License – Law:
    • Despite Diya confessing that she’s the serial killer, she would not be sentenced immediately to death row. She would be put on trial and sentenced if she pleaded guilty. Though it’s likely she would be put in a mental institution due to her lack of memories of the situation. Of course, she actually isn’t the serial killer, but instead was an Unwitting Pawn, due to being hypnotized by the real serial killer to frame for the murders.
    • In real life, Aman could have Velma and Diya arrested for changing the locks on the house he owns and locking him out.
  • Bathos: It is shown most prominently in an otherwise touching moment where Velma and Diya are cuddling on the couch together to watch tv together after being lost from each other for so long, but is cut off by the fact that it is shown that Velma has cruelly locked her father, Sophie, and Amanda (a baby) out of the house and her mother approves of this despicable act by telling her to shut the curtains on them as if they were just a nuisance in their lives.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Norville manages to deflect a bullet shot by Victoria with his katana, but accidentally causes it to ricochet off of the blade and into a fragile stalactite that breaks off and kills her, saving everyone from her.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The killer was revealed and stopped, clearing Diya's name, but the relationship between the gang is fractured and all of them, except Velma, are traumatized due to what happened with Victoria. Also, Velma locked her father, Sophie, and Amanda out of the house so she could live alone with her mother, which is only a good thing from her perspective and no one else. And The Stinger reveals that the mystery isn't over yet as Sherriff Cogburn is Killed Offscreen by another Serial Killer.
  • Blood-Splattered Innocents: Velma and the others are covered in Victoria’s blood after she’s crushed by a stalactite.
    • Though in Velma’s case, “innocent” is a very, VERY relative term.
  • Death by Looking Up: Victoria dies after the bullet she fired at Norville is deflected and struck at a stalactite above her, causing it to fall and impale her.
  • Failed a Spot Check: When Velma looks at her glasses, she notices the insignia for Fred’s family company on one of the temples. Despite having them for years, this is the first time that she’s noticed it and has a lead on what happened to her mother.
  • Forced from Their Home: Velma changes the locks to the house to prevent her father, Sophie, and her baby half-sister from entering, just so she can only live with her mother.
  • How Is That Even Possible?: Olive is incredulous that Velma pulls out both a pocket-watch and her phone out of nowhere while showering with the Girl Posse.
  • Love Epiphany: Velma listens to all the voicemails that Norville left her, and she starts realizing that she loves him. This is after he ended his friendship with her and told her that he’s transferring schools to get away from her.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Victoria Jones turns out to be the real culprit behind everything and has used her husband via hypnosis to aid her plan to switch Fred’s brain for a more suitable one.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Aman helps Velma get into the mansion to clear her mother's name and is later locked out of the house with Sophie and Amanda, so that Diya and her can live together.
  • Only the Leads Get a Happy Ending: In this case, only the title main character feels satisfied with how things turned out: Fred is traumatized from his mother being killed even though she's the serial killer, has animosity against Norville for her death, and cuts himself off from his dad to start his own mystery solving business, Daphne's relationship with Velma turned sour again after she proclaimed she loved Norville over her, and Norville has equal animosity against Fred believing his mother was possessed by his grandmother's ghost while trying to kill them and is still shaken up about accidentally causing Victoria's death, to which his father suggests he try smoking marijuana. Velma, in her usual Lack of Empathy and self-centered attitude, doesn't care that her relationship with the gang is in shambles as she has her Missing Mom back and she cruelly locks her father, Sophie, and Amanda (a baby) out of the house so they can live together. She even gets the sexist sheriff to say she is smart (even though he backhandedly adds compared to a man).
  • The Reveal: Fred’s mother, Victoria Jones, née Meeting (daughter of Harry Meeting of project SCOOBI), is the serial killer that tried to steal the brains of popular beautiful girls to place in Fred’s body so that someone more competent would run Jones Gentlemen’s Accessories.
  • Sequel Hook: Daphne receives an envelope with a pentagram drawn on it and the sheriff is attacked by an unseen assailant.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after Aman did his part to help Velma clear her mother's name, she and Diya still feel justified in locking him alongside Sophie and Amanda out of the house so they can live together just because he moved on while the latter was kidnapped.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Victoria, revealed to be the killer, hypnotized her husband, Velma's mother, and Velma herself in an attempt to cover up her crimes.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: After Norville accidentally kills Fred’s mom, he spends a long time puking in the background and the show is not shy about showing him vomiting.
  • Voodoo Shark: Victoria's plan is to replace Fred's brain with that of someone intelligent, as he's too inept to take over Jones Gentlemen's Accessories. Given that she has access to hypnotism that borders on Mind Control, it's never explained why she doesn't just hypnotize Fred into becoming a better businessman.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: When Velma and Daphne kiss as Victoria corners them at gunpoint, Velma declares her love for Norville, confusing Daphne.
