Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Everything done in the episode to keep Diya happy was for nothing since it didn't bring back her memories and in the next episode she didn't even have amnesia but was hypnotized.
  • An Aesop: Get the facts straight before jumping to conclusions.
  • Artistic License – Sports: No sane judges would allow someone near a pair of fencing contestants due to the risk of an accident. Or, in this case, interference.
  • Cliffhanger: The mid-credits scene has Diya discovering that she's the serial killer.
  • Family Relationship Switcheroo: Velma passes herself as Amanda's mother and pretends that Norville is the father so her mother wouldn't freak out about Aman moving on with Sophie and potentially lose her memories, which ultimately turned out to be irrelevant.
  • Irony: Velma has been obsessed with trying to find her mother after she went missing two years ago, but doesn't care that her own younger baby sister is separated from her own mom so that Diya doesn't find out Aman moved on.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After taking glee in getting rid of the child proof measurements, she is shocked by the electrical outlet while taking out the socket cover and hitting her head on the table which had the corner guard removed.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Having his patience thoroughly tested by Velma, Norville finally stands up to her and lets her know that he thinks that she’s a terrible friend and is too selfish to care about anyone else. Her trying to justify her actions by saying she needs to help her mother recover her memories only enforces Norville’s decision to cut ties with her.
  • Relative Button: After Velma accuses Norville's father of being the killer, he ends his friendship with her and tells her she's a bad friend.
Velma: I am so sorry about your house, and you should absolutely put the blame where it is due... the police.
Norville: I DON"T CARE ABOUT MY HOUSE, VELMA! I care that you accused my dad of being a serial killer without even telling me.
Velma: I know, but I saw the welder's mask and freaked out. And I also wanted you to finish your headline about me for the paper.
Norville: This is unbelievable. I put you above everything in my life. But I draw the line at my family. If our situations were reversed, you'd have left me for dead after my first hallucination.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Velma claims that Amanda is her daughter, and that Norville is the father, trying to keep her father’s relationship with Sophie a secret. This turned out to be unnecessary, since it actually helps Diya recover her memories as she remembers how unhappy she was married to Aman.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after Lamont was helpful in trying to get Diya's memory back and pose as Amanda's paternal grandfather for her sake, Velma with no hesitation or hard proof accuses him of being the serial killer after seeing a welder's mask in his office and gets his home destroyed.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Norville is quite angry with Velma after she wrongfully accused his father of murder and partially destroyed their house by the SWAT team she called in.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: As he’s saying goodbye to Velma, he calls her “Wilhelmina”. Whether Velma’s full name is Wilhelmina or not is never explained, but it helps deliver the message that Norville’s done with her.
