Release: July 31, 2012
Movie: The Wiz (1978)
Guest: Todd in the Shadows
- Age-Appropriate Angst: Todd particularly has issues with Dorothy's occasional Wangsting which would be more forgiving if she was a little girl like in the original play, but now that she's thirty comes across as pathetic.
- Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: He's a little disappointed that Todd is in his hotel room to for a review, and not someone who snuck into his room for rapey-times.
- Broken Record: TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY! TEENY!
- Call-Back:
- When Critic sees that Joel Schumacher wrote the script, he asks if he put bat-nipples on the Tin Man.
- Todd also references the Bat Credit Card.
- Crossover: With Todd in the Shadows.
- Epic Fail: The Nostalgia Critic swings at Todd but ends up falling to the floor.
- Hypocritical Humor: Critic says that he hasn't the time to do a crossover review. Then Paw Dugan shows up reminding him to do a review with him on The Wall.
- Innocent Innuendo: When suggesting what they should review together.Todd: No, wait! Wiz!Critic: ...You're a sick fuck with issues.Todd: No, no, the movie, The Wiz!
- "No. Just… No" Reaction: Critic and Todd when the "stir-whip" scene from The Star Wars Holiday Special plays over the Tin Man's "Teeny" scene.
- Not That There's Anything Wrong with That: A Running Gag in that some The Critic's (well) criticisms and jokes about Joel Schumacher have nothing to do with his homosexuality.
- Rooting for the Empire: In-Universe. Critic and Todd found the Wicked Witch of the West more entertaining and wanted her to win.
- Running Gag:
- Tin man repeating: Teeny! Teeny!
- This is Intolerable!
- Shout-Out
- Critic and Todd compare the song "He's the Wiz" to a song from Sesame Street and sing a revised version of "The People in Your Neighborhood" to add to the point.
- "A close-up, ya jerk! A CLOSE-UP!!!"
- "Frozen...........TODAY!"
- Todd says that the crows heckling the scarecrow are taking a break from heckling Dumbo.
- When they complain about the tone of Dorothy's first song, they compare it to Be Our Guest being replaced with "Get the fuck out!"
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Todd thoroughly rips the film for barely resembling the original play, particularly its New York setting and for having Dorothy played by a thirty-three year old Diana Ross.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Todd and Critic are both disappointed that Michael Jackson barely does any of his own dancing as the Scarecrow, and are baffled when he doesn't dance at all in his first scene.
- This Is Gonna Suck: Critic's reaction when he sees that Joel Schumacher wrote the screenplay.
- Too Dumb to Live: Critic calls the Wicked Witch this over the fact that there is an easily-accessible fire alarm and sprinkler system in her lair when water can kill her.
- Questionable Casting: Todd is completely baffled at the casting of Diana Ross as the much younger Dorothy and of Nipsey Russell as the Tin Man, who the Critic observes is perhaps the least likely of all the singers present.
