Go To

Nora and Bart return to their time, only to discover that history has been altered, forcing them to return to 2013 to try and fix things.

Tropes:

  • The Ageless: Implied with Jay Garrick, since he hasn't aged at all in 2049 compared to the present day.
  • As You Know: Jay repeats what he assumes to be common knowledge to Bart and Nora at the beginning, being slightly irritated about them acting so confused.
  • Back from the Dead: Jay in the future.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Between Bart and Avery at the end.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Eddie returns in this episode.
    • The recurring mugger Sterling Brooks as the perpetrator of a jewelry heist.
  • Butterfly of Doom: Bart just moving Joe out of the way of a bullet causes Queen to learn of the existence of other metahumans besides herself, giving her the idea to create the Royal Flush Gang earlier than before.
  • Call-Back: Bart and Nora inspect the laboratory where their father became The Flash,
  • Call-Forward:
    • A cop circa 2013 thinking that Joe and Cecile would make a great couple.
    • Joe wishing that the new year (2014, the year the show starts) will not be so weird.
  • The Cameo: While looking through old news articles to find out where the timeline diverged, Nora and Bart come across an article about a White House visit by Booster Gold (played by Donald Faison), who made his Arrowverse debut the previous week in Legends of Tomorrow.
  • Close-Enough Timeline: By the end, several things have changed in the timeline: the Royal Flush Gang has been created early, Avery has been made aware of time travel, Bart and Nora now appear in a photo at Central City PD, and Jay Garrick is still alive.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Bart and Avery bumping into each other.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode focuses primarily on Nora and Bart, with 2013 Joe West as the main secondary character. The rest of Team Flash barely appears at all.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Avery initially thinks that Bart and Nora might be spies.
  • Face Palm: Nora when Bart tells Avery he's from the future too.
  • Failure Hero: Bart breaks down crying, as he blames himself for always screwing up. Nora eventually snaps him out of it.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Nora is the responsible one to Bart's foolish.
  • In-Series Nickname: Naturally, upon learning her mutual crush is a time traveller, Avery calls him "McFly".
  • Jerkass Ball: Cecile in 2013 rudely blows off Joe, though it's understandable, given that she just went through divorce. She later apologizes and thanks him for sending her lilacs (on Nora's advice).
  • Like Father, Like Son: Jay points out to Bart that Barry also used to screw up the timeline.
  • Love at First Sight: Avery and Bart start crushing on each other as soon as their first meeting.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The Royal Flush Gang holding a casino hostage with a bomb threat, with the heroes later learning there's more than just a single bomb, just like the Justice League episode "Wild Cards".
    • Jay mentions how, early in his career, he accidentally time-traveled to World War II, fought Nazis, and spent 16 years living in the past - a reference to his comic-book origins as a Golden Age hero active during the war and immediate post-war years.
    • Avery is the name of the fifth Flash from the comics. She works at Fast Track labs, Fast Track being the name of another speedster who got her powers in the same incident in The Flash (2016).
    • Nora gives herself and Bart cover identities as Nora Moy and Bart Waid, a reference to Phillip Moy, the artist on the Legion of Super-Heroes run that introduced XS, and Mark Waid, the writer of the Flash run that introduced Impulse, and later of Bart's own title.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Thanks to showing their powers early, Bart and Nora inadvertently create the Royal Flush Gang.
  • Noodle Incident: One of the news articles the West-Allen siblings reviewed in the Flash Museum is about the Trickster's invasion of Tibet.
  • Oh, Crap!: Bart and Nora when they realize they erased Joan from existence.
  • Out of Focus: Barry himself only appears while he is in a coma and then very briefly at the end.
  • Politically Correct Villain: The bank robber confronted by Joe at the scene of the crime, Sterling Brooks, insists that he's only stealing the ethically sourced diamonds and not any blood diamonds.
  • Ret-Gone: Joan Williams has seemingly been erased from existence in the 2049 timeline and been replaced by a new woman named Rose. This is what prompts Bart and Nora to travel back to 2013 and fix the timeline.
  • Ripple Effect Indicator: The hair brush that disappears during the final scene.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Among other things, Joan Garrick has accidentally been erased. Nora and Bart figure the timeline is messed up because Joe was shot in a robbery in 2013 and try to stop it.
  • Spotting the Thread: The Royal Flush Gang quickly spots the hostages being taken to safety right under their noses by Bart.
  • Time-Travel Romance: Bart and Avery fall for each other.
  • Troll: Jay says that he is off to meet "President Luthor", shocking Bart and Nora for a moment.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Because he was Punched Across the Room by King's Super-Strength, Bart breaks his arm, leaving him unable to help Nora search for the rest of the bombs.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Nora towards Bart, when he breaks down crying at their father's bed, blaming himself for his screw-ups. He later gives it back to her, when Nora struggles to find the bombs at the Casino.
  • Your Head A-Splode: Queen has King take a female hostage and threatens to squash her head, unless Bart reveals himself.
