"Plankton and the Beanstalk" contains examples of:
- Beanstalk Parody: The episode is based on Jack and the Beanstalk, with Plankton as Jack, Mr. Krabs as the giant, and SpongeBob as the golden goose who can lay golden krabby patties.
- Dinner Deformation: After Karen forces Plankton to eat the bean, his body is the shape of the bean.
- Gasshole: SpongeBob (or rather his goose equivalent) becomes the first character to visibly fart in the show.
- Giant Enemy Crab: Mr. Krabs playing the role of the evil Giant, he fits squarely in this trope.
