Dopey Dick

Original air date: 6/29/2023 (produced in 2022)

Fishmael (Squidward) is recruited to join the crew of Captain SpongeHab to hunt down the great white jellyfish, Dopey Dick.

"Dopey Dick" contains examples of:

  • Bad Boss: Captain SpongeHab uses Fishmael as a harpoon to catch Dopey Dick.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Mr. Krabs tries to harvest jellyfish jelly for profit like he did in "Jellyfish Hunter".
    • SpongeBob's pineapple is eaten by nematodes like it was in "Home Sweet Pineapple".
  • Dreadful Musician: Fishmael's flute playing is just as bad as Squidward's clarinet playing, and is only enjoyed by Dopey Dick.
  • Extra-Long Episode: The episode is fifteen minutes long rather than the standard eleven.
  • Gender Bender: One of the Jellyspotters appears to be female, judging by the Sailor Fuku and eyelashes.
  • Gonna Need More X: After the nematodes eat the pineapple ship until it's down to one pineapple slice, Fishmael says they're gonna need a bigger pineapple.
  • Literal-Minded: When Fishmael accepts Pat-Buck's offer to learn the ropes of working on a ship, Pat-Buck instead shows him different types of ropes.
  • Moby Schtick: The episode is a Whole-Plot Reference to Moby-Dick.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: Fishmael believes this about Dopey Dick, and to his credit, it works.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Dopey Dick is the only one who enjoys Fishmael's flute playing.
  • Sole Survivor: Fishmael is the only survivor of the story or so he claims. Unfortunately, he tells the story to the people he had been with the entire time who laugh it off.
  • Storybook Opening: The episode begins and ends with Dopey Dick opening and closing a book.

Plankton and the Beanstalk

Original air date: 7/17/2023 (produced in 2022)

When Jack Plankton trades his single coin for a magic bean, it grows into a beanstalk that takes him to a land of giants.

"Plankton and the Beanstalk" contains examples of:

  • Beanstalk Parody: The episode is based on Jack and the Beanstalk, with Plankton as Jack, Mr. Krabs as the giant, and SpongeBob as the golden goose who can lay golden krabby patties.
  • Dinner Deformation: After Karen forces Plankton to eat the bean, his body is the shape of the bean.
  • Gasshole: SpongeBob (or rather his goose equivalent) becomes the first character to visibly fart in the show.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: Mr. Krabs playing the role of the evil Giant, he fits squarely in this trope.
  • I Warned You: Not believing Plankton that the bean is magic, Karen force-feeds Plankton the bean, and immediately afterwards, a giant beanstalk grows out of his mouth, during which Plankton shouts, "I told you so, Karen!"
  • Oh, Crap!: Plankton utters a little "Uh oh" when the bean is about to crush him after falling out of the vending machine.
  • Tasty Gold: A literal example as it's shown that SpongeGoose can lay golden krabby patties, which are solid like gold, but edible and delicious like krabby patties.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Not only is Plankton the protagonist of this fairytale episode, but he also manages to come on top, finally opening a successful restaurant and even beating and humiliating Mr. Krabs.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Squidward plays the role as the magic harp, but despite being used to make SpongeGoose lay golden krabby patties, he isn't seen again for the rest of the episode and SpongeGoose is still able to lay golden krabby patties without his music.

The Hunt for Dopey Dick

"Dopey Dick" puts the SpongeBob characters in a Moby Dick parody, with a jellyfish replacing the whale, [=SpongeBob=] as the captain, Patrick as the first mate, and Squidward as the new recruit who gets dragged along.

How well does it match the trope?
