“Yikes. I can't believe there are people in this world so heartless that they would abandon their pets like this. At least these pets found someone nice to adopt them. What's this? The Black Moon Clan is using these dogs and cats for their evil schemes? That's just not right! Listen up you creeps! I am Sailor Moon! And in the name of animal lovers, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "Dog Day For Artemis")

After being fed up with Luna constantly belittling him for his lack of work ethic, Artemis goes out to prove his worth. And his unofficial investigation leads him to an animal shelter that is chosen by Esmeraude as her next Negative Point.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Abandoned Pet in a Box: Artemis finds a box of kittens inside a box that's dumped by some trash bags. Thankfully the bearded man picks them up.
  • Animal Lover: The episode ends with the Sailor Guardians getting to enjoy the company of the sanctuary animals that they rescued.
  • Attack Animal: Dogbar turns the peaceful sanctuary animals into vicious beasts to attack the Tokyo public.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Artemis notices a bearded man taking in stray animals into his car believing that he's abducting them for sinister reasons. It turns out that the man just wanted to take the strays to the local animal sanctuary.
  • Bathos: Esmeraude applauds Dogbar in brainwashing the animals for their wicked purposes. Though the Droid does ask her not to laugh as it's too unbearable for the animals, much to her embarrassment.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Ami makes it a goal to study 100 new English words a day. She even worries if she can learn more per day.
  • Brick Joke: Chibi-usa appears in the middle of the episode wanting to visit the Animal Kingdom. She appears in the end visibly upset that everyone forgot to bring her.
  • Capture and Replicate: After Esmeraude knocks out the sanctuary's doctor with her electric attack, the Droid Dogbar takes on the doctor's appearance.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Artemis as he wants to prove his worth to everyone.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Artemis' motivation in going out on his own is to show his team that he's capable of pulling his own weight.
  • Filching Food for Fun: Artemis starts out the episode trying to steal some food from a restaurant kitchen only to be chased out by one of the chefs.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In the second act, Artemis trips over a can with Sailor Moon and Chibi-usa's faces.
  • Good Taming, Evil Taming: Dogbar uses her brainwashing magic to turn the animals in the shelter into obedient servants that attack anyone on command.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Luna does make a valid point of Artemis not taking his missions seriously since he only choose to investigate restaurants.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Ami and Makoto don't even notice Esmeraude as she passes by them while chasing after a little dog.
  • Never My Fault: Usagi blames Luna for making Artemis run away by laughing at him, only for the Luna to call her out for doing the same thing.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Chibi-usa convinces Usagi and her friends to take her to the animal shelter by threatening to ask Mamoru to take her instead.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The animals have glowing red eyes when they're controlled by the Trainer Droid.
  • The Runaway: Usagi hypothesizes that Artemis ran away after being fed up with Luna's mistreatment and has decided to live in the Animal Kingdom sanctuary.
  • Slave Collar: As her final trick to stop the heroes, Dogbar sends out magical collars around their necks allowing her to reign them in.
  • Shoot the Dog: Thankfully averted. Even though Dogbar uses the animals to attack, the Sailor Guardians don't even think of using their attacks to fight them. Instead, Jupiter and Mars use their powers to create a flashy explosion that huddles the animals near a tree while Mercury uses Shine Aqua Illusion to trap them in an ice barrier.
  • The Unapologetic: Luna (and to extent Usagi and Chibi-usa) refuse to apologize for how she treated Artemis in the end.
  • Urine Trouble: Esmeraude has the misfortune of being used as a fire hydrant by a little brown dog.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The main girls chew out Luna for being the reason for Artemis' disappearance along with her initial refusal to go talk to him.
  • Whip of Dominance: Dogbar has the power to take control of any kind of animal and is appropriately armed with a whip to either control the animals or to deliver electric shocks.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Mars reacts this way when she hears Jupiter's response related to the example below.
  • You Remind Me of X: Mercury, Mars and Jupiter have different takes for whom the shaggy dog reminds them of.
Mercury: You look like my cram school teacher.
Mars: His eyes look a little like my grandpa's.
Jupiter: This dog looks just like the grandpa of the Senpai who broke my heart.
