  • Date First Aired: 24/12/1998

The sisters have received a mysterious solicitor's letter from Ireland and find that they have unknown relatives in Ireland, with them being called to listen to the will. Meanwhile, Dorien and Richard have bought a horse, (although Dorien only looked at a photo of the horse before doing so) so she tags along with them, although Tracey is worried about her giving birth there.

In Ireland, they are introduced by Father Collins to the rest of their Irish relatives, who don't really get along. They end up getting a field and a shed from the will, much to their disappointment. Meanwhile, Dorien finds that she's paid for a pregnant mare, so they have to steal the horse. Unfortunately, Roddy hears the word of it, but Sharon manages to earn money from it, although Dorien finds that it would have been more financially viable to keep the horse anyway. Soon, Sharon resolves the whole sibling situation by planning to act like horrible absentee landladies and charging them money for their fields. However, the horse soon falls into labor. The sisters go to look, but complications strike when Tracey goes into labor, leading to her giving birth in a stable...

...and thus ends the run of the series on The BBC - The show will not air new episodes again until 2014, when ITV will pick it up for a Revival, leading to some dramatic changes...

Tropes in this episode:

  • All Girls Like Ponies: Dorien decides that she wants to buy a horse in this episode.
  • Ancestral Name: Apparently, Uncle Declan had two sons named after him - Young Declan, and Even Younger Declan.
  • Away in a Manger: This episode ends with Tracey giving birth in an Irish stable.
  • Babies Ever After: The intended final episode of the series, ends with Tracey giving birth to her new baby.
  • Celebrity Paradox: In one scene, Tracey mentions Ballykissangel. James Ellis, who plays Father Collins in this episode, later appeared as Uncle Minto in four episodes of Ballykissangel.
  • Christmas Episode: The eighth in total, although the only tie it has to Christmas is Tracey's Away in a Manger style birth.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Uncle Declan comes from the sister's true mother's side of the family, a mother which they learned the identity of back in "It Happened in Hollywood".
    • Tracey mentions a holiday to Spain, presumably the one that they managed to win back in "Okey-Cokey-Karaoke".
  • Dysfunctional Family: The Irish side of the sisters' family have a tendency to argue and rarely speak to each other.
  • End of an Era:
    • This marks the final episode to be aired by The BBC, with later episodes being produced by ITV instead.
    • This is the final episode to be aired in standard definition, with future episodes being produced in widescreen instead.
    • Lastly, this was the final episode produced during the The '90s, with the next episode being produced in 2014.
  • Enemy Mine: Uncle Declan's sons may hate each other, but they're willing to band together to screw over Sharon when she decides to play the abusive landlord.
  • Extra-Long Episode: This episode is 40 minutes long (in contrast to the 30-minute long run each episode had at the time).
  • Inheritance Backlash: The sisters are disappointed when they discover that their inheritance is literally a field, although they do manage to use it for good in resolving the Nolan family crisis.
  • Irish Priest: One-Shot Character Father Collins.
  • Last Episode, New Character: The final episode of the BBC run, it also serves as Travis' first appearance, who will become a major character come the ITV run.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Sharon and Tracey were unaware that they had relatives in Ireland until they receive a solicitor's letter.
Sharon: Irish relatives! Well, we never knew that.
Tracey: That's what I said. It said that Mother had a brother named Declan, and he's the one that died and left us something.
  • New Baby Episode: Both Tracey and a horse that Dorien had purchased give birth in this episode.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Sharon suggests to Tracey to act stupid to the solicitors to get more information out of them regarding the letter that they just received from them.
  • Oireland: Jokes are made about the Irish people's love of potatoes, the girls spend significant time in an Irish pub, there is Irish dancing, the parish priest is the main local figure, it is very rural and the Irish cast have very strong Irish accents.
  • One-Shot Character: Father Collins, Brendan, Young Declan, Dempsey and Roddy.
  • One-Steve Limit: There are three Declans mentioned in the episode: Uncle Declan, Young Declan, and Even Younger Declan.
  • Open Heart Dentistry: Tracey winds up being tended to by a vet.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: The plot of the episode kicks off when Uncle Declan dies, leading to the girls being mentioned in the will and them going off to Ireland.
  • Posthumous Character: Uncle Declan, who is already dead by the time the sisters learn about him.
  • Series Fauxnale: Until it was picked up by ITV in 2014, this was the final episode of the series.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Tracey finds out that the actual surname of their mother was "Nolan", Dorian snarks that that must mean that they're the Nolan Sisters.
    • Sharon sings "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" by Jack Judge as she's getting prepared to go to Ireland.
    • At one point Tracey mentions Ballykissangel.
  • Speak in Unison: Both Tracey and Dorien say "Eight?" when Sharon offers £8,000 for the horse to Roddy.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Brendan can tell that Sharon is one of theirs as she looks like the spitting image of one of their relatives, Dolores. Additionally, Tracey looks like the rest of them according to him, seeing as she's expecting. It's a conversation that the other two children of Uncle Declan's siblings try to repeat before they're made to stop.
  • That Cloud Looks Like...: Sharon sees a bunch of clouds and reckons it looks like... something. Father Collins reckons that it looks like Our Lord.
  • Unexpected Inheritance: The girls are surprised when they find out that they have inherited from Uncle Declan, since they never knew him.
  • Vacation Episode: The Birds head off to Ireland for the episode and enjoy the sights there.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: At one point, Tracey pukes just off-screen after departing from the boat.
