  • Date First Aired: 14/12/1998

The big day is coming for Garth and Kimberly, but Kimberly's father and mother don't want her associating with Garth's family, mainly due to their rambunctiousness. Thus, Tracey makes Sharon swear that she shall behave well for once during the wedding. Meanwhile, Dorien is still depressed over the end of her relationship with Richard and decides not to go to the wedding.

Soon, the day comes and it already enters complications. For starters, Darryl's father, Les Stubbs, shows up and gives him £50 to cancel the wedding. Then, Dorien starts acting strangely cheerful. Then, the sisters' rambunctious relatives show up as well. Finally, after Sharon gives a speech, Richard shows up with a suicide note from Dorien, prompting the sisters to check up on her. As it turns out, it's Dorien's 50th birthday today and she has decided to kill herself because of the fact that she's lonely and getting older. Richard admits that he regrets splitting up with Dorien and she becomes happier. Good thing too because she messed up her suicide attempt. The wedding finished, Tracey lets off her anger on Kimberly's mother for being an annoying git by swearing at her and shoving cake into her face.

Tropes in this Episode:

  • Ashes to Crashes: Les mentions that robbers took the urn of his wife, apparently under the belief that it was cocaine.
  • Birthday Episode: It's revealed later on in the episode that it's actually Dorien's birthday.
  • Bungled Suicide: At the end of the episode, Dorien attempts to commit Suicide by Pills, although she ends up consuming cod liver oil capsules instead.
  • Died on Their Birthday: Dorien, who is experiencing Milestone Birthday Angst over her 50th birthday, attempts to kill herself come the day. Thankfully, the other girls come across her and stop her.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: A suicidal Dorien takes a lot of drinks in the run-up to the wedding.
  • End of an Era: The final regular episode to be 30 minutes in length - future episodes will now have a regular length of 22 minutes.
  • Food Slap: Tracey shoves cake into Kimberly's mother's face for being an annoying git.
  • Forceful Kiss: Sharon gives George a very forceful snog on the face at the beginning
  • Gift-Giving Gaffe: Dorien gives the girls an absolutely dreadful present of kitchen scales, mainly because she hadn't had the time to get them a proper gift.
Sharon: See the wedding present Dorien got you.
Garth: I don't remember offending her.
  • Goodbye, Cruel World!: Dorien, preparing to kill herself, gives the sisters a note giving them her share of the cleaning business. She also gives Richard a letter rambling about how she's going off to a better place, which is what convinces the sisters to check up on her.
  • Heroic BSoD: Dorien spends the episode absolutely depressed thanks to her birthday coming up and the end of her relationship with Richard, ending with her Interrupted Suicide.
  • Killed Offscreen: It's revealed that Olive Stubbs has died since her last appearance.
  • Lohengrin and Mendelssohn: Tracey sings a portion of "The Wedding March" when Garth enters the kitchen. He retorts with "The Funeral March".
  • Love-Obstructing Parents: More love obstructing grandparents, but Les tries to get Garth to cancel the wedding, dismissing his marriage towards Kimberly as a form of temporary madness.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Les suggests that he may not be the biological father of Darryl after all, noting that Olive was a very sociable woman.
  • Milestone Birthday Angst: The entire reason that Dorien is depressed is that it's her fiftieth birthday.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Tracey, all of their family dos end in undignified punch-ups.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws:
    • Kimberly's parents don't take a bright view of the members of the family that Kimberly is due to marry into. Tracey herself becomes gradually annoyed with them over the course of the episode and eventually shoves cake into one of their faces.
    • Les not only continues his obnoxiousness from his previous appearances but also tries to get Garth to cancel the wedding.
    • Sharon and Tracey's even more vulgar in-laws turn up unannounced for the reception, including Reenie and her orange trouser suit.
  • One-Word Title: The name of the episode is "Nuptials".
  • Out-of-Character Alert: The normally fashion-conscious Dorien doesn't even bother to give herself make-up or anything during much of the episode, a sign that she is absolutely depressed.
Sharon: You saw the state she was in! No hairdo, no make-up. Dor never goes anywhere unless every crack's filled.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: At least on the UKTV recording of the episode; when Tracey starts letting it out on Kimberly's mother, some of her stronger swear words are covered up with a beep.
  • Stag Party: It's briefly mentioned that Sharon was at Garth's stag night. Apparently, it involved group-mooning the bus and ultimately ended with Garth needing his stomach pumped.
  • Suicide by Pills: Dorien tries to kill herself by consuming a lot of pills. However, she ends up taking cod liver oil capsules by mistake.
  • Trivial Tragedy: Played for Drama when Dorien starts crying over the fact that her champagne has become flat, seeing as it's a sign that she's severely depressed and suicidal.
  • Wedding Finale: The final regular episode of The BBC run, it deals with the marriage of Garth and Kimberly.
  • Wedding Episode: The episode is about the preparations made for Kimberly and Garth's wedding, culminating in their marriage.
  • Worst Wedding Ever: Garth and Kimberly's wedding is plagued with complications such as Dorien trying to kill herself, annoying relatives and in-laws, and Garth's grandfather trying to make him cancel the wedding.
