"Moe Kare" is a shoujo manga by Gou Ikeyamada. It follows the story of Otaku Hikaru, who desires to one day find her shoujo prince in real life. One day, she encounters a boy named Arata who she first thought to be her prince; only for him to be a pervert who steals her First Kiss! The next day, she meets a boy named Takara, who looks just like Arata, except he has a different eye color. A Love Triangle soon develops...

Tropes

  • Almost Identical Twins: Despite actually being half-brothers and a year apart in age, Arata and Takara look exactly alike, even having the same birthmark in the same location; their only differences being their eye color and personalities.
  • Babies Ever After: In the final extra, it reveals that Arata and Hikaru have a baby son.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Hikaru and Arata.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Ami, she's the one that makes Takara and Hikaru break up because she wants to keep Takara for herself after she gets injured protecting him, however, she does realize this is wrong. She additionally comments several times that Hikaru is plain and isn't good for anything and that both Takara and Arata have bad taste for liking her.
  • Bridal Carry: Hikaru has been carried by both boys like this on a number of occasions.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Arata is quarter English, the only trait that gives this impression are his blue eyes.
  • Casanova Wannabe: At the start of the manga, Arata is a hardcore playboy that treats kissing and sex very casually. As he falls deeper in love with Hikaru, he gets very mushy over her and even mentions that he only gets like that over Hikaru.
  • Childhood Friends: Takara has a childhood friend named Ami.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Arata, however, it's actually a big part of his character. Not having either of his parents really be part of his life, and his grandfather despises him due to resembling the man that left his mother. Due to not having any parents, Arata had never been loved before, so he gets very confused when he falls in love with Hikaru and when she expresses love back, he can only question if it's a dream and if he's allowed to be this happy.
  • Crush Blush: The leads are almost always flustered when around the one they like.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Hikaru has pink hair and eyes, Takara has brown hair and eyes.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Hikaru elicits this in a lot of characters, particularly from the two male leads. Arata once says she's the cutest in the world and he gets easily flustered around her.
  • Disappeared Dad: Arata and Takara's dad is dead. This actually fuels Arata's hatred for Takara, as their dad had an affair with Arata's mom while in England for work and tells her that he'll come back for them; when he's five, Arata and his mother go looking for him, only to find that he has a wife and another child. Arata was angered that despite Takara and he having the same face, Takara is happy and he's never been.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Played for Laughs, Arata and Takara attract a lot of male attention.
  • First Girl Wins: Hikaru meets Arata first, she dates Takara for awhile, but in a roundabout way, she eventually gets together with Arata.
  • First Kiss: Arata steals Hikaru's at the start of the manga.
  • First Love: Takara was this to Hikaru. Hikaru additionally is this to both boys.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Arata is very jealous of Hikaru and Takara's relationship.
  • Happily Married: The final extra reveals Hikaru and Arata get married and have a son.
  • In-Series Nickname: Arata calls Hikaru "Hiyoko" or "Chick" and Hikaru calls Arata "The Perverted Prince."
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: This is a pretty big theme in the manga; Arata just wants Hikaru to be happy, even if it means being with Takara, so he tries pushing her away close to the end of the story. Ami lampshades this trope when she tells Takara she realizes to be in love with someone means you want that person to be happy, not to want that person themself.
  • Important Haircut: Hikaru cuts her hair short after breaking up with Takara and it is a shoulder bob for the rest of the manga, in the final extra, she grew her hair back out as an adult.
  • Ladykiller in Love: Arata, a notorious flirt at the start of the manga and hopelessly in love with Hikaru.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Arata is Takara's younger half-brother.
  • Love at First Sight: Chapter 0 reveals that Arata basically fell for Hikaru at first sight.
    • Takara starts falling for her at first sight of seeing her in her high school uniform, as prior to that he thought of her as a little sister.
  • Love Triangle: Both boys like Hikaru, but she is only attracted to Takara. She and Takara eventually confess to each other and start dating, however, they eventually break up due to Takara feeling obligated to be by his childhood friend when she gets severely hurt protecting him and Hikaru develops feelings for Arata over time.
  • Luminescent Blush: All three leads suffer from this on a regular basis.
  • Missing Mom: Arata's mom died of illness when he was very young.
  • Nosebleed: All three leads have had at least one.
  • Official Couple: For about half the manga Hikaru and Takara are together. They eventually break up and the end game is Hikaru and Arata.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: Arata's preferred method of carrying Hikaru.
  • Otaku: Hikaru at the start of the manga, once she finds a shoujo prince in real life, she doesn't show as much interest in anime.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Arata is pugnacious, loud, and flirtatious to Takara's quiet, reserved, and clueless about girls.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Hikaru and Arata's relationship in a nutshell.
  • Split Personality: Arata made up a story about him being Takara's other personality to Hikaru when he tried masquerading as him early in the manga, his story is dissolved when he decides to enroll in the same school as Takara and Hikaru.
