RRRrrrr!!! provides examples of:

  • Accidental Time Travel: The Chief can run so fast that he ends up in modern times in a dream.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The first suspect shown to be interrogated for the murder, The Healer, is shown to be beaten by Blond... it is just practice though.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Comes as part of the territory of being a French comedy film but:
    • "Pierre" can mean either the proper noun "Peter" or the common noun "stone".
    • "beautiful" in French, is "belle", doubles as a proper noun, the name of The Chief's wife.
    • "Tonton" is a French affectionate nickname for "uncle" — this is used for most of the names of The Dirty Hairs Clan members, male and female.
    • YMMV with regards to the subtitles and different versions of them, since in the film proper, for instance The Healer, is called The Healerologist and some translations use this instead.
  • Brick Joke: The trap.
  • Chekhov's Skill:
    • Trapmaking and the discovery of how to do it properly.
    • Dressmaking... of which sewing and braiding come in handy for the murderer.
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: Literal example, there is a chase that gets put on hold because of night-time and resumes the next day.
  • Chase-Scene Obstacle Course: Stones among stones.
  • Colonel Kurtz Copy: The Chief has a scene reminiscent of the famed character of Marlon Brando.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: The Dirty Hairs tribe's members are all coated in red stone paste, including their hair.
  • Credits Gag: The large amount of actors playing as Pierre or Tonton.
  • Hollywood Spelling: Played With both times:
    • Blond — he gets so annoyed by his tribe calling him this way that he attempts to spells out the pronunciation of his name, Pierre: a few unrelated sounds come out.
    • Guy — everyone in the Clean Hair tribe struggles to pronounce it.
  • Hunter Trapper: Subverted by Curly and Blond, they were out "hunting eggs" when they found the ransom note. In an effort to avert this task, they strike a deal with The Chief to not hunt for the rest of their lives and a few days.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Blond practices this in his role of investigator. See Bait-and-Switch.
  • Like Father, Like Son: The Dirty Hairs's Chief and Blond.
  • Literal-Minded:
    • It is a trait of their time but Curly definitely takes this to the next level.
    • The two tall tribesmen ponder on whether if once they walked on all four limbs, and then they walk on two, if there is a future where there will be zero.
    • Keep your eyes on her!
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: How Blond discovers his parents.
  • Mama Bear: The Dirty Hairs's Chief.
  • Meaningful Name: Played With with Pierre note . The characters get called by a distinguishable characteristic or occupation though: Blond, The Chief, The Healer, etc.
  • Monochrome Past: What happened to The Healer's dogmmout
  • Mr. Exposition: Most of the tribe partakes in explaining to Blond that the crime couldn't of been done by an animal because it would have eaten him... prompted by a tribesman, a nearby bearmmoth exemplifies with the tribe member and having dismembered him, gets up on two legs, turns to Blond and shrugs toward him as if to ask if he understood the point of the explanation.
  • One-Steve Limit: Played for Laughs, as everyone — including women — is named Pierre (which is the French form of Peter). This is a play on the expression "L'Age de Pierre", which in French means either "The Stone Age" or "The Peter Age". They can still distinguish each other by name, as seen when the chief call his tribe's members one by one by name and they know which Pierre it is (they even notice when one of them is missing).
  • One-Word Title: RRRrrrr.
  • Red Herring: The dressmaker/seamstress... that is also a guitarist.
  • Running Gag:
    • Every time The Chief enters a scene, he asks if everyone knows his wife, and if they agree that she is beautiful.
    • Blond gets called by this name because of his hair, he doesn't like it.
    • Curly insists that his hair is naturally... well, curly.
    • Every prehistoric animal have mammoth tusks, even the worms. They are all called something with the suffix -mmoth.
  • Shout-Out: The Chief has a moment by himself where he contemplates the implications and horrors of a murder in such a way reminiscent of Colonel Kurtz' introduction.
  • Silly Reason for War: Two prehistoric tribes are at war because one has shampoo and the others are trying to get the formula.
  • Stop, or I Shoot Myself!: The leader of the Cheveux Sales (the Dirty Hairs) takes himself hostage in order to force the Cheveux Propres (the Clean Hairs) to give his tribe the secret of shampoo. When the Cheveux Propres utterly ignore his demands as expected, he actually follows through with his threat to kill the hostage. Perfectly summarized in a dialog during his funeral:
New Chief: He said gimme the secret before dusk or I'll kill myself. He said it — he did it — a great man...
His daughter: Rather more a great nitwit!
New Chief: [reluctantly, through tears] Yeah...
  • Wild Hair: Taken to extremes. Then again, part of the plot revolves around the invention of shampoo.
