South of Oz is a fanfiction by Connor J. Lockhart. It takes place a while after the events of Emerald City and revolves around West's journey to find her mother

South Of Oz provides examples of:

• Adaptational Name Change: West now has a name: Elphaba Thorpe.
• Adaptational Badass: West is almost similar to her television counterpart, with a difference. In the fanfiction, she is much stronger. She turned back time itself to prevent the deaths of a good amount of witches under Glinda's care. She also beat Glinda in a race to Isolation Island. It could be because when Tiktok healed West, all the chemical hooks from the opium vanished. Also, she (reluctantly) ends up becoming a goddess.
• Adaptational Intelligence: Tiktok is nowhere near as smart in its origin book.
  Tiktok: I have a database inside of me that lists every single living being in Oz. I can identify a person, bug, or even grass blade, with no longer a time than a photon particle takes to cross a centimetre.
• Alliterative Name: Isolation Island and Tamaria Thorpe
• Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Tamaria seems to become this after being locked up by Glinda on Isolation Island. Subverted as it is actually revealed to be a fragment of Roquat's soul from when he attacked twenty years back.
• Cathartic Scream:
  West: "Well, umm, do you know where my mother is?"
  Tiktok: "You mean Tamaria Thorpe, Cardinal Witch of the Southern Mountains, Mother of Magic and Witches?"
  West: "Yes."
  Tiktok: "I know who or what something or someone is, but not where they are."
  West internally screamed with wide eyes.
• Cue the Flying Pigs: West requested to find her mother with Ozma's permission. He said yes, but warned that it might be fruitless. Later on, West and Glinda not only got to Tamaria, but also got her out of Isolation Island, a place once deemed unsurvivable. When Ozma heard of this, this conversation occurs...
  West: I bring you good news.
  Ozma: Have you managed to sort your attitude?
  West: Funny. I bring different news.
  Ozma: What is it?
  West: My mother has been found and recovered.
  Ozma: Interesting. Where are her current whereabouts.
  West: She was on Isolation Island, but me and Glinda freed her.
  Ozma: Did any pigs fly when you came back?
  West: No, surprisingly enough. Anyway, she is currently resting in Ev.
• Deadpan Snarker: Hooooooo boy!
  • West is still as sarcastic as ever. Here is a list:
    • West's response to Tiktok's explanation of his scanning ability:
    West: Repeat again, but without the filler.
    • When West is lying on the floor in agony. This also aligns with Tiktok:
    West: 'I AM IN NEED OF A DAMN FIX HERE!'
    Tiktok: 'But Elphaba, you are not dead.'
    West: 'MY RIBS ARE DIGGING INTO MY BLOODY HEART, YOU METALLIC TESTICLE!'
    Tiktok: 'But you are not dead.'
    • When Tiktok wakes up West.
    'I saw mother. West sadly said, 'But I still don't know where she actually is, and just as she was about to give me some sort of clue, YOU wake me up!'
    Tiktok: Of course you had to. You were asleep for nearly seven hours. You needed the sleep because of your eye bags.
    West: That was eyeliner.
    Tiktok: It was not applied on well, then.
    West: Ahahahahah.
    Tiktok: I detect a note of sarcasm in that false laugh.
    West: Wow, I guess you DO have some sort of brain after all.

  • Tiktok is a good example, although many of his snarking moments are shared with West.
• Deus est Machina: Tiktok comes close to this. There's a bit too much to list here, just read the fanfic for yourself.
• The Dreaded: Isolation Island. It was said that nobody that went to the island came back, like with West's girlfriend Nymea.
• Fusion Dance: When West and Glinda fused to make Elphinda.
• Healing Shiv: Tiktok's Medicare beam. May cause Instant Sedation.
• Instant Sedation: A side effect of the Medicare beam.
• Not Quite Dead: Roquat, it turns out, has been alive all this time, in the form of a soul fragment in Tamaria. Elphinda swiftly takes care of it.
• Shout-Out:
  • West's real name in this fanfic is Elphaba.
    • Her last name, Thorpe, might either be a different version of Thropp, Elphaba's last name in Wicked, a reference to Isabella Thorpe, a Jane Austen character in Northanger Abbey who became friends with Catherine Morland, like West became good friends with Tip/Ozma, or Blessed Robert Thorpe, a priest that was seen as a traitor by others like him and was hanged, drawn, and quartered. In Emerald City's ninth episode, "The Villain That's Become," Ozma frees the witches in the Prison of the Abject that were not dead nor dying. Afterwards, West, a witch herself, was seen as a traitor by the witches, so was bound and lifted into the air. She lived, but only because Ozma used her magic to remind the witches of who she was, causing them to let go, so that is a thing different from Blessed Robert.
