The Eclipsed Hearts series is a Kingdom Hearts fanfiction series written by LilithArtist.

The storyline of the series follows the adventures of Luna, one of the last known remaining Shadow Mages in existence, and her efforts to fight back against the darkness plaguing the worlds alongside her feisty Shadow Guardian, Medea. Along the way, she makes friends and makes enemies while slowly uncovering bits and pieces of her unusual heritage.

While the series follows the main storylines very closely, some creative liberties are taken, including additional characters.

Starting with Broken Hearts written in 2014, this series is currently ongoing.

Current stories are;

  • Broken Hearts (completed)
  • Scattered Hearts (completed)
  • Tainted Hearts (completed)
  • Chained Hearts (completed)
  • Fractured Hearts (ongoing)

This series has the following tropes:

  • Affably Evil: In Chained Hearts, Vexen and Lexaeus speak respectfully to Noir, often calling her Lady Noir. Not that it stopped them from fighting her and Riku.
  • Big Damn Reunion: In Chained Hearts, Luna reunites with Riku in Castle Oblivion.
  • Big "WHAT?!": In Tainted Hearts, Ansem is shocked to find Medea reentering the fray unfazed after having stabbed the Keyblade into her like he did Maleficent.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Luna is the blonde, Noir is the brunette, and Medea is the redhead.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When first meeting Hades, while everyone else was expressing wariness of him, Luna doesn't pay attention and asks him why he has fire on his head.
  • Cosmic Motifs: Specifically, a lunar motif is prominent throughout the series.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Luna and Medea were on the receiving end of it when confronting Vayne at Olympus Coliseum.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Luna and Noir come from a race of people wielding power over the shadows, but they use their powers to help protect the light instead.
  • The Easy Way or the Hard Way: Vanitas pulls this on Luna in an attempt to goad her into summoning her Shadow Guardian.
    • In Chained Hearts, Zexion says this word for word when confronting Luna in Castle Oblivion.
  • Epistolary Novel: Scattered Hearts functions like this.
  • Extremely Dusty Home: The Old Mansion in Fractured Hearts starts out like this. It gets a good cleanup later.
  • Flower Motifs: Moonflowers are a favorite flower of Luna's.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Ienzo develops a spark of jealousy for Luna's interest in Riku, which culminates into being Driven by Envy after a confrontation with her in Castle Oblivion.
  • The Heartless: It's Kingdom Hearts, of course they'll be present.
  • Insecurity Camera: There are moments where cameras weren't reliable throughout Scattered Hearts due to Braig and Xehanort's meddling.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Demonstrated strongly with Calca and Brina. Despite being mute sentient dolls that can only communicate with body language, Luna can inexplicably understand them.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When one of the heroes is about turn the fight in their favor, chances are they have the words to let them know they're screwed.
  • My Greatest Failure: Plenty of them coming from someone within the series.
    • Ansem's greatest regret is being unable to save Luna from Xehanort despite all his efforts to care for and protect her from his former apprentice.
  • Original Character
  • No Name Given: Averted in Scattered Hearts with the couple that adopt Luna and Kairi - both are named Hiroshi and Yoko.
  • The Patient Has Left the Building: Luna attempted to escape Ansem's castle after her encounter with Xehanort. Ansem, however, stops her before she reached the door.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Medea had two moments where her temper reached its breaking point, once in Hollow Bastion and again in Castle Oblivion. She came to regret the former.
  • Screw the Rules, They Broke Them First!: A prominent observation throughout the series, especially concerning problems the main characters have to contend with.
  • Shadow Walker: Medea teaches Luna to use this during the fight against Zack, and Luna makes good use of it throughout her journey across the worlds.
  • The Shrink: Ansem the Wise filled in as one for Luna during her period of mental illness.
  • Sliding Scale of Law Enforcement: Twilight Town's security team falls under the positive side of the spectrum for the most part. Nyx himself confirms they're the ones who really protect the town.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Vanitas says "sweetie" when he's talking to Luna.
    • Braig habitually called Luna "angel".
  • Trash Talk: There's plenty of trash talking within the series by both heroes and villains.
  • Thwarted Escape: In Neverland, Luna escaped the captain's cabin upon hearing Sora broke out of the ship's brig, finding Wendy and Kairi along the way. It didn't last long.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Luna, Medea, and even Noir have received rough blows from tougher foes they've encountered.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not even Luna as a child was safe from harm.
