Bad Boss: Zwilt tends to rule through fear and humiliates those who challenge his command.
Badass Cape: A dark purple one that always swirls around his frame.
Blood Knight: "Zwilt had always followed the trade of death, and plenty of slaughter was what he was looking forward to". Unfortunately, Vilaya doesn't agree with him.
Dragon with an Agenda: While he's fine to follow Vilaya at first, their relationship falls apart early on in the book and he quickly becomes The Starscream from there.
The Dreaded: Everyone is terrified of pissing him off.
Four-Star Badass: A feared general who isn't afraid to step out on the front lines.
Disney Death: She gets run through by Zwilt when he challenges her for leadership of the Ravagers, but she gets better - much to the awe of her subordinates, who think she's come Back from the Dead.
Manipulative Bitch: Vilaya's more of a manipulator than a fighter. Her plan to take over Redwall involves using their children as hostages, in contrast to Zwilt who'd rather just charge in sword swinging.
Non-Action Big Bad: She's content to sit back and let Zwilt do all the fighting.
Poisoned Weapons: Keeps a poisoned dagger in a sheath around her neck.
Would Hurt a Child: Not just her scheme to get at Redwall by kidnapping its children; when one particular otter child attacks her, she promptly kills him with her poison dagger as an example. That mistake eventually costs her her life, as it gets a Badgermaid extremely angry, and turns said badger into a Determinator out for her death.
