  • It's Personal: He wishes to find Venus' killer to avenge his deceased investigative partner.
  • Large and in Charge: He's far taller than most characters standing at an impressive 6'4", and he runs a law agency on top of that.
  • Mentor Archetype: He acts as a mentor to every other member of the agency at some point or another.
  • Mr. Exposition: He often offers details to the rest of the cast, and the reader by extension, since he knows much more about the legal system and its inner workings. A prime example is the first case where he primes Lily on the details of the incident before the trial can begin.
  • Nice Guy: In his introduction, he's established as being helpful, polite, and friendly.
  • Title Drop: His last name is also the name of the series.
  • Unreliable Narrator: When he narrates throughout the first book, he feigns innocence regarding matters related to Oracle. In truth, he is one of the spy's closest associates.

    Chrysalis Starr (Major Spoilers)
Cotoli's younger sister and a legal assistant working at Morix Law Offices. She tends to keep to herself despite being much smarter than appearances would imply.
  • Teen Genius: Chrysalis is incredible during trials, picking up on many details others miss and leading to the truth. The greater example is her creation of the Oracle of the Law project. Chrysalis masterminds the organization, and she first became the vigilante spy at the age of fifteen.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Chrysalis keeps a lot of secrets due to her position as Oracle, and her narration is false in some way or another throughout the entire first book and even beyond that as a result.

    Yuri Rinko
A longtime member of the agency and the younger sister of Venus and Cassidy. Her optimism brightens the hearts of all she interacts with.

    Lily Shield
One of the newer members of Morix Law Offices who joins at the start of "Quiet after the Hurricane." She is bright and kind in her search for the truth.
  • Big Brother Worship: She admires her older brother, trying to impress him in court rather than beat him. The two are incredibly close outside of the courtroom as well.
  • Brainy Brunette: She's got brown hair and is a practicing lawyer who passed the bar exam as a young woman.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears a pink dress to further highlight her as a female lawyer.
  • Sibling Rivalry: She and Roberto are this, due to being on opposite ends of the courtroom, though they still love each other and understand that they are just doing their jobs.

    Deirdre Brigit
A lawyer trained in the arts of psychology. She is a strong analyst both emotionally and logically and uses those skills to find victory in the courtroom.

    Victoria von Graye
A late recruit to the agency who first appears in "Secrets beneath Secrets." She lives with her mother and boyfriend, loving both of them endlessly.

    Felicity Amaya
Sky's twin sister and an eternal optimist. Despite first appearing in "Quiet after the Hurricane," she does not join the agency until "Web of Mistrust."

    Sky Amaya
Felicity's twin brother and the order to her chaos. He joins the agency alongside his sister at the start of "Web of Mistrust."

    Venus Rinko
The oldest Rinko sister and Cotoli's old legal partner. She died in the first case as the victim of an attack within the agency's parking lot.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: She survived her stabbing, only to die by smoke inhalation shortly afterwards. Poor girl.
  • Irony: She chose the parking lot of the Morix law offices as a meeting place because it was the place she believed to be the safest. She was murdered there.
  • No Kill like Overkill: The victim of this. She was bleeding out from a stab wound but she suffocated due to inhaling smoke as her car was set on fire. She had no chance of survival, being killed three different ways.
  • Teen Genius: She was studying under Morix at sixteen in order to become a detective. Apparently, she was a skilled investigative partner.

    Jay Yang
The only lawyer who doesn't work in the agency and Sora's adoptive relative. He and Tora are old friends and courtroom rivals.

Prosecution

The prosecutor rivals to the agency's members.

    Ghastly Bespoke
The chief prosecutor, Cotoli's courtroom rival, and Niamh's adoptive father. Despite his sleepy disposition, he takes the search for justice incredibly seriously.

    Sora Lin
The middle child in Cotoli and Chrysalis' family. She is a naturally caring and maternal person, taking Niamh under her wing as an adoptive daughter soon after starting to date Ghastly.

    Polly Burke
An old friend of Ghastly's and a stoic prosecutor. Despite her hardened exterior, she has found a family in Cotoli, her boyfriend, and Anton, her adoptive son.

    Anton Burke
Polly's adoptive son and an anxious prosecutorial assistant. He stammers when he speaks and is prone to shyness and bouts of sickness.

    Roberto Shield
Lily's older brother who is known for being rough around the edges. He regards the world with a jaded eye, causing him to clash with many people around him.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He's called Robbie by his sister.
  • Artistic License – Law: A brother and sister wouldn't be able to face off in court in the real world, though in Ace Attorney, it's a regular occurrence.

  • Sibling Rivalry: A friendly and professional rivalry with Lily due to him being a prosecutor and his sister being a defense attorney.

    Niamh Wood
Ghastly and Sora's adoptive daughter and a rising prosecutor. Despite her youth and perpetual anxiety, she has already shown promise in the courtroom.

    Nevada Wood (Major Spoilers)
The other identity living within Niamh's body. She is kind and excitable, contrary to what her identity and history may imply.

    Elec Daegana
Anton's twin brother and a masked prosecutor. He hides his true face and identity in the name of being taken seriously in his profession.

    Anthony Umber
A stoic prosecutor and Abilene's twin brother. Unlike his chipper twin, he is sour and often marked with a bitter disposition.

A prosecutorial assistant and Ghastly's former investigation partner. She died during the events of "Quiet after the Hurricane" after being attacked at a carnival.

    Tora Yin
A prosecutor and Jay's courtroom rival. Following the murder of Sora's mother, she and Jay took the young Sora in, and Tora trained her in the art of prosecution.

A detective who has worked with Toby for many years. She took Aiden under her wing soon after meeting him and has been mentoring him ever since.

    Aiden Hayes

    Ervan Frost
Eriko's twin brother with a strong sense of justice. He rules carefully on every case he presides over with his kindness shining through each time.
  • Nice Guy: A flaw of his. He's trusting and optimistic, pleading with the lawyers to show restraint on vulnerable suspects, even if it's necessary to put a bit more pressure on them. This makes him slightly biased as a judge and complicates trials a bit.

    Eriko Frost
Ervan's twin sister and his natural opposite. She tends to keep to herself but has complete control of the courtroom when she is ruling on a trial.

Interpol

The agents of Interpol.

    Joe Ashen (M)

The youngest member of Interpol to date and a technology agent under Sebastian's jurisdiction. He later becomes close friends with Neptune and Clarith because of his work.

Other

Miscellaneous important characters.

Oracle of the Law (Major Spoilers)
A spy dedicated to exposing the corruption of the legal world. Their operations are widely considered morally gray, though many people want them dead for their work.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: They are referred to as the Oracle of the law, or Oracle for short.
  • Samus Is a Girl: All that's known about the Oracle is that she's a girl.
  • Scars Are Forever: She was cut on the back of their hand with a knife by a killer during a botched infiltration. This also disproves Anton's guilt in killing Venus, as Venus lacked these scars, something Anton knew as well.
  • Vague Age: Since her disguises are all different ages, it's unknown just how old she really is, though they tend to average out to her being in her late teens or early twenties.
  • Vigilante Man: She infiltrates organizations and leaks information to the public, something that has made them many enemies among the criminal world.
  • Walking Spoiler: The Oracle's identity or identities change the direction of the story completely.

    KJ Jett
A bailiff and longtime friend of the agency's members. He and Venus dated for roughly a year and a half before she was killed.

Minor Characters

Quiet after the Hurricane

    Shayla Willows (Major Spoilers)
A witness to the murder.
  • Beneath Suspicion: Nobody really accuses her of anything due to her timid nature making it look like she has difficulty with even the simplest tasks. This turns out to bite everyone in the ass much later on.
  • Blackmail: This is used as a possible reason why she won't testify about a third witness. She's under the impression she would die if she disclosed that information.
  • Character Tic: She fans herself when nervous. She's nervous a lot.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The timid, anxiety prone girl is the Oracle's Invented Individual.
  • Dramatic Stutter: She does this frequently, due to being extremely nervous.
  • Foreshadowing: Lily complains that her unassuming nature makes others go too easy on her when they really shouldn't. She had no idea just how accurate that statement really was.
  • Invented Individual: She's one of the Oracle's many aliases.
  • Nervous Wreck: She's on the verge of a breakdown, making it more difficult to cross examine her without causing her to shut down.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: How she is described.
  • Secret-Keeper: An unwilling example. The real killer threatens her with a switchblade and forces her to perjure on the stand by claiming she and Anton were the only witnesses to the body. She only breaks free of this when her safety is assured by Morix and Lily.
    • Later on, it becomes apparent that's far from the only secret she's hiding, as there's a much larger one that turns everything on its head once revealed.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's very jittery and awkward, stuttering and having trouble keeping eye contact with anyone. Justified, since she's quite young and a witness in a murder trial. This is all an act of hers to make herself Beneath Suspicion.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: She mentions multiple times that she and Anton were the only witnesses. Lily picks up on this and realizes that she's too insistent about this detail. Sure enough, pressing down on it leads to a breakthrough in the case.
  • Teen Genius: Even more so than her friend Venus. She was a vigilante spy in her mid teens.
  • Unreliable Narrator: What she's revealed to be. While she correctly identified the victim due to hearing her last words, she is unable to accurately recollect the crime scene due to being in emotional duress, making her come across as suspicious in Lily's mind.
  • Walking Spoiler: There's far, far more to her than there originally seems.
