Heroes

    Searina
Come on, let’s save the world together!

A pink demon who serves as the protagonist.

  • Dissonant Serenity: Completely unfazed by the fact that the world is dying. She can't exactly feel anything without a soul.
  • The Heroine: She winds up being the one to save the world.
  • Medium Awareness: When she first meets Illi, the latter is too depressed to say her name, so Searina learns it by opening up the game menu.
  • I See Dead People: She can see the souls of others, and she can hear the last words of nearby corpses. It's an ability she gained when she lost her soul.
  • Player Character: She is the one you control.
  • The Pollyanna: Even in the face of a world-devouring evil, Searina never loses her spirit. Not that she had any spirit to begin with, and her current lack of one is why she is so unnaturally happy — she actually cannot feel anything and mimics happiness because that is what she knows.
  • Second Love: For Illi. The latter originally loved Princess Ezel, who was murdered by Vido. Eventually, Illi realizes that Ezel was a horrible person and learns to move on from Ezel, then gets together with Searina.
  • The Soulless: A heroic example. Since her soul was eaten by monsters, she's lost the ability to feel fear or remorse, making it all the easier for her to beat the crap out of the Big Bad.
  • Supporting Protagonist: She is the Player Character, but the story is really about Illi and her struggle to avenge Ezel.

    Illi
Ezel was... she meant everything to me. She gave me a reason to live. Ezel was kind and loving! She was the only person who’s ever cared about me before!! She...! She didn’t deserve to die, not like that!

A girl who wishes to avenge the murder of her beloved, Princess Ezel, at the hands of Prince Vido.

  • Break the Cutie: Upon losing her best friend Ezel, Illi became utterly despondent, and then broke even more when learning Ezel was a soul-devouring villain all along.
  • Broken Pedestal: She does not take The Reveal of her beloved Ezel's true nature (that of a world-destroying villain) very well.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: She is implied to have it, as Ezel commands her to eat Searina at one point.
  • Crusading Widower: She is driven to avenge Ezel by killing her murderer, Vido.
  • The Lancer: She is the main helper of Searina who contrasts Searina's cheerful attitude towards everything with despondence and a drive for vengeance.
  • Prone to Tears: She spends almost all of her screen-time crying, and most of her portraits show her in tears, due to the death of her lover Ezel. She finally smiles in the true end.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Ezel, who uses her to kill Vido and free herself, allowing her to continue devouring the planet.

Royal Family (Unmarked Spoilers)

    Prince Vido
I’ve done everything I can. No matter what anyone thinks of me. I have to see this through.

The prince of KAIMA who killed and usurped his sister Ezel, and is currently destroying the planet.

  • Big Bad: Subverted. He is built up as this, as the one who killed Ezel and is destroying the world, but it was Ezel who started the destruction, while he is trying to stop her.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Prince Vido is built up as the main villain for killing Ezel and beginning the destruction of the world, but Ezel herself was the one who put the world in danger with her Soul Eating, and Vido merely put her away.
  • The Evil Prince: Subverted. He killed Ezel seemingly to usurp her throne, but it was actually to stop her tyranny.
  • Good All Along: Vido was trying to stop his sister Ezel from devouring the world herself.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: For a certain value of hero. Everyone thinks of him as a cruel, heartless tyrant who killed the benevolent Princess Ezel to usurp her and devour the world. In truth, Ezel was the tyrant who ate the souls of her subjects while Vido was trying to stop her.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: He sealed away Princess Ezel and wants to gain the power to kill her to stop her from devouring all of KAIMA. To get that energy, he resorts to devouring half of KAIMA himself and killing anyone who tries to stop him. So he tried to stop Ezel from destroying the world… and ended up destroying the world. Ezel gives him an amused "Not So Different" Remark upon being unsealed in the True End route.
  • The Usurper: Rare benevolent variant, as the princess in power was a tyrant who ate the souls of her subjects.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He has been devouring half the world, but only to use its energy to kill Princess Ezel for good and save the rest of the world.

    Princess Ezel
I am the one and only Princess Ezel! The most powerful being in the universe!!

The princess of KAIMA who was murdered by Vido.

  • Ambition Is Evil: The reason she began devouring the entire world was to gain enough power to conquer other worlds, as she grew unsatisfied with ruling only KAIMA.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In every ending except the Secret and True ends, she is released from her seal and free to devour the remains of KAIMA.
  • Big Bad: She is the true threat to KAIMA as the one who is devouring to gain the power to conquer other planets. Vido, who had sealed her away, is trying to stop her from doing so by gaining enough power to kill her.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: She gained her immense power by devouring her subjects.
  • Decoy Damsel: Illi doesn't even know Ezel is still alive until after defeating Vido, but when she does know, she demands Vido set her free. Then the newly freed Ezel explains that she is going to continue devouring souls, which is what Vido was trying to stop her from doing.
  • First Love: For Illi. She was seemingly killed by Vido, then came back only to reveal herself as evil.
  • Paint It Black: She appears with a pure white dress and body when pretending to be a kind princess. But when she reveals her true evil nature as the Big Bad, her dress turns black as her skin takes on a green hue.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Turns out this is what Ezel actually is. Vido 'killed' her to stop her from eating the whole planet, and is keeping her sealed away.
  • True Final Boss: If you do the sidequests beforehand and then stop Illi from killing Vido, the normal final boss, then Ezel will reveal that she was the one destroying the world and, if you then spare Illi, fight you herself.
  • Villainous Princess: Ezel seems to be a benevolent princess, but is actually the one who really caused the impending apocalypse by devouring the souls of her subjects and trying to destroy the world so she could conquer other worlds. She goes on to be the True Final Boss of the game.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Everyone except Vido seems to think of her as a kindhearted Princess Classic, rather than the power-hungry tyrant she really is.
  • We Can Rule Together: She offers Searina a position as her servant in the Bad Ending after Searina has killed Illi.
Searina... would you like to join me on my journey to devour a new universe?
  • You Have Failed Me: In the Bad Ending, when she orders Illi to kill Searina only for Searina to win the battle instead, she mocks her death.
What a shame... if she can't even win against something like you, she was useless to me from the start.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: In the Indifferent Ending, she reunites with Illi, but it is heavily implied that she is going to eat her when she no longer has any use.
