Animal Themed Superbeing / Miraculous Ladybug

Go To

This applies to all the Miraculous wielders to one degree or another. The powers granted by a Miraculous mostly have little to do with the actual abilities of the animal in question, and are more related to the symbolic meanings assigned to those animals.

  • Ladybugs are seen as symbols of good luck and it reflects in Ladybug Miraculous's Lucky Charm ability to create a random object that would improve her fortune. It is later specified that Ladybug and Scarabella's actual power is the Power of Creation, which not only fits Ladybugs with regeneration, but also with Scarabs as they are symbolic of creation.
  • Black cats are symbolic of bad luck so Cat Noir's main power is bad luck in the form of his Cataclysm, the ability's name more fitting when later episodes specify that his actual power is destruction.
  • Butterflies are symbolic of transformation and metamorphosis, playing the Butterfly Miraculous Super-Empowering ability that connects with the fact that Nooroo is the kwami of generosity. It also plays on how Gabriel started off as Hawk Moth from the first three seasons before changing his appearance to Shadow Moth in the fourth season and then Monarch in the fifith. And there is the character arc of Lila Rossi from a random character to a member of Gabriel's inner circle before continuing Gabriel's legacy as Hawk Moth.
  • Foxes, in almost every culture in the world, are seen as tricksters. Fittingly Rena Rouge's superpower is illusions.
  • Peacocks are seen as symbolic of vibrancy and its users make emotions vibrant in the form of Sentimonsters. Nathalie used the damaged Peacock Miraculous as Mayura to create allies for Hawk Moth's akumatized villains before he repairs it and uses with the Butterfly Miraculous to become Shadow Moth, both cases essentially enhancing his power by increasing the vibrancy.
  • Turtles are symbolic of protection. The Turtle's powers create a giant bubble force field that protects everyone inside.
  • Bees are symbolic of hard work and productivity, though Chloé as Queen Bee was an aversion while her half-sister Zoe played the trope straight as Vesperia. Moreover, the term 'queen bee' as applied to humans and best fits Chloé's during tenure as Queen Bee.
  • The Miraculous of the Chinese Zodiac all follow the same theme regarding the symbolic aspects of their powers, although it might not be as clear at first glance:
    • It makes sense that the Horse Miraculous would grant the power of Teleportation since horses are one of the oldest forms of human transportation
    • The Monkey Miraculous having the power to induce chaos and cause an enemy's ability to malfunction is based on the stereotypical playfulness of monkeys.
    • The Tiger Miraculous having the ability to launch a Purple Megaton Punch reflects the tiger being a symbol of willpower and strength.
    • The Rabbit Miraclous's method of Time Travel is through a series of rabbit holes within a dimensional rabbit burrow that each leads to a different time period.
    • The most obscure one is perhaps the Snake Miraculous bestowing the user with a Reset Button, referencing the imagery of the Ouroboros (which symbolizes an endless cycle).
    • The Mouse Miraculous is probably the most straightforward. It grants multiplication, alluding to the mouse's infamy as an Explosive Breeder.
    • The Dragon Miraculous can embody aspects of the weather: wind, water and lightning. Chinese dragons do have the ability to manipulate storms according to mythology.
