(This makes me laugh because one of the characters I keep using is Lane, a Flash fic OC, and That's...what happened in Canon. like. almost exactly )

The Big Bad is tired of losing to your heroes, he has sent The Determinator back in time to kill your lead hero's mom. Who gets sent back to save the timeline?

Whatever finds one of her many foster siblings and sends them back. she's related by fostering to just about every hero out there, so one of them must have rippleproof memory or time travel abilities.

Lane assuming that the villain killed her mother, not sticking to canon because that's already answered by the show, sends know one. nothing changes. she was already an orphan, and knows nothing else. she never even knew her mom in this timeline, and her friends know how bad screwing with time can be. as much as she hates what was done to her, she can't lose the friends she has. so she asks them to leave it be.

Mella has read so many books she knows this is a bad plan but she's gonna go save her mom anyway. possibly by bringing her to the future. that'll preserve the timeline but also her mom. so that's a win win. Except that Mella's not the Hero, that's Gary....who never told anyone why he grew up with his aunt and uncle....Mella would still go back, with the whole team, but only if Gary ok'd it.

same because LAZY

Lint decides to send Trisar, because Trisar is, for one, a Fish out of Temporal Water in Lint's times (he's been time-frozen some fifteen years back) and can easily slip in nineteen years ago and two, he's a supersoldier. Finding Lint's mom may prove problematic, though, as no-one currently alive knows who she was.

Reil sends no-one. By the time she was pregnant with him, Lady Cigfran had faced so many assassination attempts one more wouldn't even register.

[up][up]For Calia/Amber/Melanie, they wouldn't bother... The Big Bad wouldn't want to kill her own loyal children, after all.

For AC... It wouldn't work, he doesn't have a mother, and was created by a race of aliens that transcend space and time

[up]

Calia: Probably warp reality to get the Gifted and the humans to live in harmony, making some kind of spell/artifact that would have to overcome the Gifted's need to perform soul consumption. As for why it would want to help her... it's an Arcane being, the same species as her mother, and probably would want to help out her offspring.

Ichirou asks for a way to put an end to the war with the elves ( and later, the demonic invasion).

Tyyni, being The Cutie, would ask for a way to send hugs to all of her friends.

In both cases, Deoth would grant the wish, since he is an all-powerful, all-benevolent God.

The Fourth Wall dissolves and your character leaps out of the screen to appear in your room. What is their reaction?

Whatever goes "cooooool." and then asks if she ever gets to prove to her ma that she's a hero, too, that her powers aren't worthless.

Lane gives me the puppy eyes and asks why I hurt her so badly. Probably tries to kick my ass.

Mella does from excited "you mean I AM THE MAIN CHARACTER IN A YOUNG ADULT FANTASY NOVEL HELL YES" to offended "Couldn't I have had a bigger role in saving the day then? why didn't I get super stamina and magic sword skills?" and we have to have a Talk about the Theme of the book, which she finally accepts.

[up]Not to go off on a tangent, but seeing a character named "Whatever" reminds me of this girl I once met in kindergarten named (or at least went by) Yourself, who would end every sentence in "yourself", and even had "Yourself" as her name written on some art hanging in the halls. I wish I could say I was making that up, but I'm not. So let's not think too hard about the implications of such a person's circumstances and move on to something more irreverent.

Arc: Try his hardest to assess the situation and gain as much information as possible. Any interference (by me in particular) would be met with a snarky comment — until he realizes, however begrudgingly, that going back to his world means working with me.

Kaylee: Act surprised, but calm down soon enough and start getting comfortable. She knows she needs to get back, but a change of pace and scenery is welcome. Also, she'd get to play with dogs.

Coil: Flip out over the situation. He's got people he needs to get back to and some pretty important things to do, so he eventually snaps back into his tough guy mode and demands answers. When denied of any, he opts for the next bet thing: smashing everything until something good happens.

Your character gets caught in increasingly bad weather — which escalates into him/her spotting a huge tornado drawing ever closer.

Assuming that their teleporters aren't working:

Calia wouldn't mind the bad weather for the most part and would walk through it with a straight face... until she sees the tornado, at which point she'd have to encase herself in crystal to prevent damage. She's vulnerable to wind-elemental damage.

Amber wouldn't like the rainy weather which kind of dampens her mood... then she sees the tornado, and flies straight towards it. She absorbs wind-element damage so she'd love that.

Melanie would love the rain and the cloudy sky as she absorbs water-elemental damage. The tornado would be a bit of a concern for her. She'd probably attempt to literally blend into any shadows to avoid it.

Both AC and Rae (if they don't have a shelter) would be really unhappy and in pain all over even before the tornado starts... both of them are literally harmed by contact with rain. Otherwise, they'd stay indoors until the tornado inevitably destroys the shelter.

All my human characters who have no powers nor Mons will probably panic and try to drive away (or ride away on a horse, in the case of the one normal human character I have in a fantasy world) or hide. For the rest...

Characters with Mons

Phoebe would simply fly away on Peggy, her pet flying unicorn.

Gon will hastily send out space-warrior-like Galaxeon from his Scanner, and beg him to carry him off through the air.

Yamiko will send out ghostly sorceress Venifica, who will either A) use her dark magical powers to divert the tornado to a land populated by sickeningly cute critters, or B) take a glance at Yamiko, then joke that there's nothing she can do and just let the tornado hit Yamiko, watching her flailing around helplessly.

Ashleigh will not think to use any Mons; she'll just pray to God that the tornado doesn't keep coming this way. Somewhere in the back of her mind is a hope she'll get transported to Oz if it does hit her.

Ari won't even notice the tornado because she's shut inside on her computer, as usual.

Halberd will grab his fellow thieves and hop into the Sky Pirate with them.

Panther will hop on her motorcycle and try to outrun it. When that inevitably fails, she'll send out kitsune-like Jessy and hope she can use her fire magic to dissipate the tornado.

Characters with Powers (including non-humans)

Ametite is a strong flier - she'll brave the winds and just fly away from its path. (She's a harpy, by the way.)

Merlin will try to dissipate the tornado with his powers of aura manipulation. (If he has his Mons, he'll enhance their psychic abilities with said powers for the same purpose.)

Lupin has an aura-shielding ability that produces an effect kind of like invisibility. Knowing he can't sneak past the tornado with this, he'll instead slip into the nearest house (picking any locks and disabling any alarms along the way) and head right for the basement. Even if residents are already hiding there, he can hide right next to them without them noticing.

And now I shall start a habit of recycling older prompts that other people have come up with in this thread. From page 6:

Your character is transported from one of your stories into another one.

Come, my child of the devil. Your mother is calling you. Hear my call in Hell's grand hall, where all our dreams come true.

Kev suddenly finds himself in a Post-Cyberpunk version of a town he once lived in, some 50-odd years into the future. Bits of the place will be familiar, other parts will have changed so much he wouldn't recognise them.

He's pretty adaptable so he'd get by but he wouldn't enjoy it very much. He'd probably be quite glad that he's got his pistol on him, given the crime rate...

Eveleen being transplanted into any other world would be rather shocking to her. Eveleen comes from a story set very literally After the End, the universe is dead and gone, with no real future to look forward to. She'd probably break down and cry at the wondrous feeling of living in a time when there was a future to look forward to.

Your character learns that their entire life is actually an elaborate reality TV show a la The Truman Show.

Hmm, this is an interesting prompt indeed.

Gon would call bullshit, as by that point he's pretty convinced that if he IS in a story, it's an Eastern RPG, not a reality show - and he's never seen the two mixed.

Yamiko would immediately seek to find out whether or not she really is in a reality show. Living under a curse caused by her great-grandmother? Having a father who kidnapped her mother and hid the body after she died giving birth? Spontaneously getting adopted by a lesbian couple and meeting this hot ballerino dude in high school? Ending up in a Love Triangle with him and a timid Gentleman Thief? Sounds like something out of a TV drama. In fact, a part of her really wishes this life she's been living WAS all fake.

Satsuma would wonder what a reality show is, having lived her entire life in a fantasy world, in the middle of a story involving the revelation that she's the forgotten descendant of a queen endowed with the powers of the Goddess of Light. The messenger would then make her watch a few episodes of Game Of Thrones, and while the world will seem familiar, she still wouldn't quite understand. Then she'd randomly pick up a copy of Lord of the Rings and immediately identify with Aragorn, and realize her whole story is an Expy of Tolkien's.

Vicky would exclaim "OMG OMG, you mean I'm a film star?", and then immediately ask the messenger who's playing her imaginary friends, so that she could meet them.

Zuri would be notably confused, but like Vicky, see this as an opportunity to meet the ghosts of her parents. Or the producer, so she could find out their backstory.

Maverick would agree whole-heartedly - for all he knows, all of life is just some grand stage performance anyway. (Which is bizarre, considering he lives in a world where Shakespeare never existed.)

And now to continue my tradition of recycling old prompts. From page 10:

Your character wakes up to find themselves married with three children. If already married with any number of children, it's a completely different family. How do they react?

Come, my child of the devil. Your mother is calling you. Hear my call in Hell's grand hall, where all our dreams come true.

[Censored] would kill all the children, if the spouse isn't [Censored]'s Love Interest, said spouse will be killed too. [Censored] will then run far, far away to a desolate mountain to find the oracle who somehow always knows what's going on.

Same.

Taarid would be convinced that he's either drifted off into weirder parts of Spirit World again, or somehow someone forced him to get married and have children, and he forgot everything of it. In any case, the reaction would be pretty much the same - run for the hills, screaming all the time.

Sourseille would feel extremely awkward about the whole thing, seeing how he's not really into women. He'd try to talk things through with the wife and then leave, although if the children would turn out to be truly his, he'd visit them from time to time and send them money to support them.

Largo would at first think that the Bird God is screwing with him again for its own amusement and try to return to reality. When this fails, he'd freak out and frantically try to contact his real wife.

Your character is taking a shower when suddenly the curtain they're behind is pulled open, revealing a madman with a knife. What happens?

Inessa uses her telekinetic powers to stab him with his own knife, then restrains him with whatever is handy before calmly putting her clothes on and calling the local authorities.

Elisha's combat reflexes are good enough that she reacts quickly, pulling out all the stops to take whoever it is down. Most likely she'll try to get to the pistol or knife she probably has in the bathroom with her. Once the guy is dead, she'll grab her squadmates for backup, along with chewing them out for letting them get to her in the first place.

Takashi, owing to his Well-Intentioned Extremist tendencies, snaps under the pressure of trying to maintain a policy of Thou Shalt Not Murder and erases a group of elves from existence. Thanks to his enemies keeping a close watch on him, this causes turmoil throughout the surrounding communities, leading to a full-scale war between the church and the elves.

Lane tries to trade herself for her friend. honestly, her life has sucked so bad for so long that she's genuinely ok with dying if it means her friends are ok. And death is better than what some people would do to her, given her abilities. Of course, if there's no deal for her friend, she's going to wreck some shit. it takes a hell of a lot to kill Lane—she can heal from anything sans instant death.

Mella totally looses her head. panics. and then calls in the Big Damn Hero unicorns.

Whatever recognizes the guy who totally tried to kill her seventh eldest foster sister, and goes " you, again? Didn't we , I dunno, banish you to the moon or something? ughhhhhhhhhhhh" and then goes to the employer and says, look, bud. I'm worth a lot more alive than dead." and lists her entire (living) family tree. assassin is called off, friend is probably kept as a hostage, but they break out sooner or later.

Hmm, seems the last poster didn't leave a prompt, so I'm going with the reality-writing book example:

Phoebe would wonder what would happen if she erased the part where the virtual world she's in was sealed off from the real world. When she crosses out that part, she'll head back to the local Port Town and Get on the Boat (or train rather) out of there. Hundreds of other people will soon follow suit, and promptly place the attractive Mad Scientist who created said virtual world under arrest.

Gon is in the same world and situation as Phoebe, except he'd cross out the part where his little sister Ari gets kidnapped by the Big Bad, and then immediately contact her and try to find her. Unfortunately, at that point, The Syndicate will send lots of robot Mooks after both of them.

Yamiko is also in the same virtual world. She'll write in her overly-attached boyfriend Mr. D finally getting disinterested in her and breaking up with her, and Love Interest Lupin finally spitting it out that he loves her, therefore resolving the Love Triangle that's been plaguing her. Oh, and she'd also write in an elaborate plot involving her freeing herself from her family's curse.

Mr. D, likewise, would write in Yamiko giving in and deciding that Lupin is not right for her, and thus staying with him instead. He'd also erase Yamiko's entire backstory involving her family's curse.

Shin is the head of the mafia of the same virtual world, and also The Dragon of the story. To make things seem not too contrived, rather than writing in the heroes surrendering, he'll write about him slowly gathering intel on the heroes and their whereabouts, then send out his strongest flunkies to capture the Elemental Keys from them and take over the virtual world of Mystrica.

Vi Willow will scoff and think, "Oh, there's where I put that." She knows that book is hers, as she created the virtual world she's in. Interestingly enough, she'd write in it exactly what the author would, downward plot twists and betrayals and all.

Zuri would use this opportunity to force the ghosts of her parents to talk to her (by writing it in), so that she could ask them about why they died. Depending on the answer, she could either leave things as they are, or go back to part where they died in the first place and cross that whole thing out. Then she'd write in her grandmother dying of old age.

Same. This is really an interesting prompt.

Massech would use the book to make himself a human. Somehow, the fact that most humans in his area treat him like dirt hasn't stopped his infatuation with them, and he'd like nothing more than to be like one of the ones he idolizes.

Forneir would make it such that his (second) family was never separated.

Your character returns to their childhood home (or, if they still live there or return there frequently, another place of significance to them). What thoughts are going through their head?

In Taarid's world, lack of soul leads to severe emotional impairment, so he carefully considers whether it's wise to let somebody get rid of it. If he concludes that not really, he flat-our refuses to sell the soul and tries to convince the person not to go through with the deal - he's not pressed for money anyway. If he concludes that meh, why care, he delivers the soul, using the opportunity to make more contacts in the Spirit World.

Sourseille is horrified that anyone would do such thing. Not only does he refuse to do this, but he keeps an eye on the would-be seller and tries to explain to him why this is a Bad Thing, providing help if the soul was to be exchanged for something that he can help with.

In Tannya's universe, only demons buy souls and people aren't supposed to come in contact with demons, so she arrests the seller and launches an investigation. Money be damned, she's The Paladin.

Your story's villain invites your character for a fancy dinner in a highy public place, promising that for the duration of the evening, they will not attempt to harm or sway to their side your character or their associates. Does your character believe them? What do they do?

Rejoice!
