Sandbox / Gear Fried The Knight

Go To

Decided to set a Sandbox up to better juggle things on long-term works. Let's see what can be done with this...

THINGS TO DO

  • Add all team members - DONE!
  • Find invidual tropes for each team member and team tropes for all teams, even noting them down and developing them later
  • Rewrite lacklustre definitions

SITUATION REPORT
  • Need to see if tropes for Wanderers can be split off from the rest of the team - DOABLE, but requires more space. Need to get atleast the first twenty teams done and moved off the Sandbox, although getting the first 46 done might be better and free up more space.
  • Bosses added so far are the ones from 3 and ITC. Bosses from 3 will be the first ones up, added as soon as we get to those games. Those from the Drift games need to be done ASAP too, but with how much space everything's taking up, that might be doable only once the teams and bosses from 3 are done.
  • Tropes need to be rewritten to be grammatically correct and with good syntax and structure.
  • Teams up to the Cupid Arrows have been moved to the Characters page to make the editor not lag.
  • Tokyo Xtreme Racer - DONE; Tropes need to be rewritten, up to Wind Stars, 16/20
  • Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 - Up to Departures, but Little Gang need to be revisited, 2.5/24; Dub Name Change up to Black Knights
  • Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero Barebones basics, Abflug might prove to be challenging since they are a cameo, 0/2
  • Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 - Basic tropes, one or two members for a couple of teams, 0/43; Dub Name Change up to Neo Limited
  • Import Tuner Challenge - Theme Naming only, 0/34; Dub Name Change up to Changing Stage
  • Drift games - No work started yet, 0/63
  • Bosses - No work started yet, 0/16

PLEASE NOTE: AS A RESULT OF AN INCONSISTENT, LOW QUALITY, CONTRADICTORY AND SELF-CONTRADICTING TRANSLATION THAT WAS HANDLED BY TWO DIFFERENT TRANSLATION TEAMS AND CHANGES FROM GAME, ALL PAGES UTILIZE JAPANESE NAMES FOR THE SAKE OF CONSISTENCY AND ACCURACY. ANY NEW TROPE SHOULD REFER TO THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE; SHOULD IT REFER TO THE TRANSLATION, IT SHOULD CLEARLY BE MENTIONED SO.
  • Easter Egg: In 3: By driving the same car as a team's leader with that team's stickers placed on it, the player will receive a new, team-exclusive name.
  • Underrated and Overleveled/Gameplay and Story Segregation: A series-wide case, where some lower-tier opponents will actually prove to be as challenging, if not more, than some later ones. This is not just a case of AI scaling: in spite of belonging to "lesser" teams or being "casual" Wanderers, those opponents will have a car with better tuned parts. It gets particularly egregious when their bios state the absence of specific tune-ups that, in reality, their cars do have.

"☆" is used to indicate team leaders

WIND STARS

Team Members: "Wolf's Requiem" Kiyoshi Onizuka ☆, "R Magic" Isamu Tamagawa, "Black Magician" Akihisa Tōyama (first game only), "Diamond Dust" Toshiki Aikawa, "Runaway Locomotive" Akira Nagase, "Yellow Flare" Ippei Sadaoka, "Swift-Footed Valkyrie" Natsumi Uemura, "Moody Queen" Nao Haruka, "Blue Giant Star" Tetsurō Nakata

  • Achilles' Heel: Tetsurō Nakata's shifting used to be the weakest part of his driving when first starting off, to the point he practiced changing gears with absurd dedication. His work paid off... until it caused him to develop fatigure arthritis in his left wrist, undoing everything and causing him to regularly miss the timing window for good shifts.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: No mention is made of the Nagase brothers' parents, nor of any other family members. Akira appears to have been left completely alone upon his brother's passing and his subsequent fall into despair.
  • Challenge Seeker: In order to face Natsumi Uemura in Import Tuner Challenge, players' cars will need to be capable of reaching atleast 300 kilometers per hours. Otherwise, she will not even consider their challenge, deeming it below her.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Every team member had one.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Cars belonging to the Wind Stars tend to be towards the darker end of the color spectrum; their logo's main colors are black and red. In spite of that, the Stars themselves are far from villainous, with the most morally gray member being more bitter and jaded than anything.
  • Drives Like Crazy:
    • Kiyoshi Onizuka
    • Nao Haruka
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Kiyoshi Onizuka: to "Requiem" Tom Mahoney (2), "Requiem" Wolfgang Bell (Zero), Seiji Onizuka (3), "Wolves' Requiem" Kiyoshi Onitsuka (Street Supremacy)
    • Isamu Tamagawa: to "Autoerotic" Victor Smith (2), Ralph Bukala (Zero)
    • Toshiki Aikawa: to "Wind Rider" Sean Marshall (2), Dusty Eurmo (Zero)
    • Akira Nagase: to "Rampaging Tank", "Dark Star" Paul Osborne (2), "Mad Train" Randy Stanza (Zero), "Reckless Train" (3)
    • Ippei Sadaoka: to "Magic Man" Franklin Perry (2), Don Skirlock (Zero), "Yellow Flair" (3)
    • Natsumi Uemura: to "Fleet Valkyrie" (first game), "All-the-Way" Alice Bayer (2), "Speedy Valkyrie" Francine Kuba (Zero), "Swifty Valkyrie" (Street Supremacy), Natsumi Kamimura (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Nao Haruka: to "Queen" (first game), "Queeny" Mindy Greene (2), Angelica Jaide (Zero)
    • Tetsurō Nakata: to "Comeback Kid" Jose Cortez (2), Roy Chan (Zero)
  • Empathic Weapon: If Akira's word is to be believed, his car behaves in reaction to his emotions. When he first inherited it, right after his brother's passing, it refused to respond properly to his inputs. Once he begun working through his grief, however, the car begun to behave how he wanted it to.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: All members of the Wind Stars appear to be close to Kiyoshi, one way or another, and on top of that, the team's existence seems to serve as some form of therapy for them to overcome their individual issues. Despite all that, the team members' relations with one another are lacking, leading them to rarely hang out. That doesn't seem to stop Toshiki from wanting to write a song dedicated to them as thanks for existing.
  • Hot-Blooded: Natsumi Uemura
  • Hope Bringer: Kiyoshi, somewhat, served as this to many other drivers. His determination to continue racing in the face of despair, even after losing his best friend and his former team, was not lost on anyone, with those who were the most starstruck with him ultimately forming the Wind Stars. However, Kioyshi himself continues to drive only because he feels like he has nothing left to lose.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Natsumi Uemura's driving reason.
  • Kung-Fu Clairvoyance: Ippei Sadaoka, owning to his skills as a mentalist. He can see how other cars will move before they do, at speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: The entire team serves as this to its members.
  • Loners Will Stay Alone: Natsumi
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: The entire team, really.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Team's logo is red-and-black... team isn't evil.
  • Shared Family Quirks: The Nagase brothers.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Akira's car used to belong to his brother before his passing.

ROTARY REVOLUTION

Team Members: "Silvery Nobleman" Toshihiko Kūonji ☆, "Cornering Artist" Toshitsugu Kūonji, "Asphalt's Sorrow" Yasuhiko Fujisaki (until Zero), Hiroshi Kimura, "Dark Memorial" Sakito Ōgami, "Risky Cat" Namie Aikawa, "Ominous Bird" Akira Nagase, "High Speed Star" Ryūichi Uemura, "Blasting Manager" Tokihiro Haneba (3 only)

For tropes concerning "Silvery Nobleman" Toshihiko Kūonji, see here. For tropes concering "Asphalt's Sorrow" Yasuhiko Fujisaki before and after joining Rotary Revolution, see Emperoro's and Unlimited's folders here and here. For Akira Nagase's folder upon joining A.S.F., see here.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Ryūichi Uemura employs this method, helping and being helped by Toshihiko in the process. This allowed him to grow massively as a driver over the years.
  • All Caps: Hiroshi Kimura's street name is his first name spelled this way.
  • Ambiguosly Absent Parent:
  • Beware the Silly Ones
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Namie knew the Kuonji brothers since she and Toshihiko were in school together. She ultimately marries him by the time of 3... but it doesn't last.
  • Don't Think, Feel: By contrast with his brother's Awesomeness by Analysis, Toshitsugu drives by feeling alone.
  • Double Meaning: The team's name can both mean "revolutionizing racing through the rotary engine" and the rotary engine's rotation as part of its working.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Toshitsugu Kūonji: to "Force Rider" William Thompson (2), "Turning Artist" Alex Thompson (Zero), Toshiji Kunoji (3), Toshitsuki Soraotera (Street Supremacy)
    • Yasuhiko Fujisaki: to "Asphalt Scream" (first game), "Rubber Burner" Brian Thorne (2), "Asphalt's Cry" Nima Taghavi (Zero)
    • Hiroshi Kimura: to "Rocker" Jerry Blumberg (2), Michael Steuwald (Zero)
    • Sakito Ōgami: to "Headache" Leon Wagman (2), "Dark Memory" Michael Maas (Zero), "Amnesia" Sakihito Oogami (Street Supremacy)
    • Namie Aikawa: to "Revo Emag" (first game), "Mood Swinger" Naomi Parker (2), Jynki Cruz (Zero), Namie Kunoji (3), Namie Soraotera (Street Supremacy)
    • Akira Nagase: to "Blind Roc" (first game), "Feather Touch" Gene Douglas (2), "Black Bird" Matthew Scheir (Zero), "Strange Bird" (3), "Dark Phoenix" Mei Nagase (Street Supremacy)
    • Ryūichi Uemura: to "Mr. Perfect" Vince Adagio (2), Marcel Pahmer (Zero), Ryuichi Kamimura (3), "Superfast Superstar" (Street Supremacy)
    • Tokihiro Haneba: to "Kattobi Manager" Tatsuhiro Haba (3), "Grand-Slam Manager" Tatsuhiro Haneba (Street Supremacy)
  • Eccentric Artist: Toshitsugu
  • Everything Is an Instrument: Hiroshi Kimura, much like Hard Riff, utilizes his sense of rhythm in driving his car.
  • Glory Days: Akira Nagase gradually grew obsessed with them the more time passed and the more the world of racing left him by. By his final appearance, he's been reduced to a shadow of his old self constantly complaining about how "the good old days" are gone.
  • Housewife: Namie upon marrying Toshihiko
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen:
    • The team used to be the fastest on the Gulf Line, only to lose the spot because of in-fighting and later dissolve due to Snake Eyes.
    • Akira Nagase used to be, at one point, one of the five strongest drivers on the Expressway (per his own words). Nowadays, he's fallen so much by the wayside he appears to be ashamed of showing up/doesn't even show up to race that much at all/not even a glimpse of his past self can be seen in spite of him clinging to his former glory.
  • Identity Amnesia: Sakito Ōgami reportedly lost all of his memories of his life beforehand, beyond an "unnatural calling" towards racing which hinted everyone at him being a former racer. It isn't until 3 that he finally regained his memories.
  • Idle Rich: Toshitsugu, as the heir of a massive Zaibatsu, never had to really worry about working or making money. As such, he was free to pursue his passions of avant-garde art and street racing.
  • Interclass Friendship
  • I Owe You My Life: After regaining his memories and (metaphorically) his life, Sakito feels himself indebted for life to Toshihiko and will do everything to assist him in anything he can be of any use.
  • Malicious Slander: Namie and Toshihiko are victims of this upon marrying, with insistant rumors about her and Toshitsugu secretly being brothers.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Sakito Ōgami's name, atleast the one he used since developing amnesia, means "circuit god" in English, hinting at his past as a professional racer. It's unknown if he consciously or subconsciously selected it.
    • In-Universe, Akira Nagase's street name originates from his rotary engine's peculiar high-pitched sound and a legend about a bird passed down from generations in his hometown.
  • MegaCorp: The Kūonji brothers are scions to one, the Kūonji Zaibatsu. Of the two, Toshihiko openly works for them and uses the Zaibatsu's money to fund the team.
  • Nice Guy: Unlike Toshihiko, Toshitsugu was a lot more easy-going, open and friendly with everyone, particularly with other team members.
  • Old Friend: Toshihiko and Tokihiro Haneba are friends dating back to university.
  • Rags to Riches: Hiroshi Kimura, after going from obscure indie kei artist to a break-out major label artist, gets a lot more money to invest in his car.
  • The Resenter: Apparently, the Kūonji Zaibatsu bought out Tokihiro Haneba's father's business and left him jobless, leaving him to resent Toshihiko. Hiroshi, who is very close to both, is worried at any possible turn of events this might cause.
  • Shared Family Quirks: The Kūonji brothers. Later, Namie upon marrying Toshihiko.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Yasuhiko Fujisaki repeatedly tried to get Toshitsugu to replace Toshihiko, not getting along with the latter. When the two brothers made up, with his plan ruined and his patience reaching its end, he promptly abandoned the team and joined Unlimited, the new strongest team on the Gulf Line.
    • Ryūichi Uemura tried to pull the exact same thing at the exact same time due to a nasty falling out with Toshihiko, but Toshitsugu managed to convince him to stay and reinstated him.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Toshihiko and Toshitsugu did not get along well, which caused Rotary Revolution to lose momentum and its top spot as the fastest team on the Gulf Line. The two made up by the time of 3, only for Toshitsugu to tragically lose his life some time afterwards.
  • Take a Third Option: Between Toshihiko's Awesomeness by Analysis and Toshitsugu's Don't Think, Feel, Hiroshi Kimura hybridizes the two approaches: he uses his innate sense of rhythm, whilst subconciously (and perhaps without even noticing) doing various calculations, which leads him to never repeat a mistake twice.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The team went through a period where the relations between its members were rocky at best, mostly due to the feud between the two Kuonji brothers. This actually lead to Yasuhiko Fujisaki to leave the team (on top of disliking Toshihiko and wanting Toshitsugu to take over). Things got better after the brothers made up around 3.

RINGS

Team Members: "Solitary Jackal" Takeshi Miyazawa ☆, "Vivid Slide Tail" Gorō Kishi, "Meteor" Yōsuke Arai, Satoshi "Tune Shop" Hamada, "Silver Angel" Yōko Murakami, "Sonic White Devil" Takabumi Ījima, "Carnage" Akihiro Gotō (from 2 onwards), "Hill Myna" Hitoshi Mitamura (from 2 onwards), "Rainbow Colored Domino" Ryūkō Murakami (from Import Tuner Challenge onwards)

Incredibly long-lived, now being on its sixth generation of members, RINGS are a business-minded team, leaving small space for small talk and playfulness. They're considered amongst the top teams of the Tokyo Expressway, and for good reason: any prospective applicant to join the team needs to defeat every other member before they're handed the stickers.

This approach to recruiting is also reflected in a team-wide philosophy, if not de facto policy: for a RINGS member, winning through raw power is nothing short of insulting. To prove one's superiority, members tend to detune their cars' engine down to a mere eighty percent of their full power, confident that their skills will have them see every battle through.

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Takabumi Ījima tried to walk away from tuning, but could never shake the feeling and returned after an year-long pause.
  • The Aloner: In Street Supremacy's continuity, Takeshi Miyazawa is found as a lonely Wanderer, RINGS having dissolved due to the team's failure to become Tokyo's strongest. He massively regrets it, and before trying to put the team back together wants to redeem himself and his failure, showing to himself he actually has what he boasted about all these years.
  • Animal Motifs: Takeshi Miyazawa has, as his street name says, the jackal, representing his lonesome nature and, atleast in Street Supremacy, abandonment.
  • Benevolent Boss: Takeshi Miyazawa in leading RINGS. Later his tuning shop, which he manages with his experiences.
  • Boring, but Practical:
    • Takeshi Miyazawa's car is set up this way — stiff suspensions, slight understeer, shorter gears to favour acceleration.
    • Goro's car, as it's built with taking people on dates in mind
  • Character Development
    • Yosuke
    • Yoko
  • Dare to Be Badass: Goro will encourage the player to never give up and always strive to be cool even in defeat in Racing Battle C1 GP
  • The Determinator: Takeshi Miyazawa in races, refusing to give up until the very end.
  • Defector from Decadence: Yōko Murakami used to belong to The Road of Justice, but quit the time upon the policy change that saw them become vigilantes.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Takeshi Miyazawa: to "Ghost Rider" Lee Stark (2), Larry Simpson (Zero), "Outstanding Jackal" Munetake Miyazawa (3), "Ultimate Jaguar" Munetake Miyazawa (Street Supremacy), "Lone Jackal" Munetake Miyazawa (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Gorō Kishi: to "Super Slide Tail" (first game), "Drag Devil" Ted Stanton (2), "Shocking Slide Tail" Red Collins (Zero), "Vivid Slide Tale" (3), "Stunning Tail Slide" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Yōsuke Arai: to "Shooting Star Yosuke" (first game), "Lazy Boy" Max Davids (2), Butch Franco (Zero), "Shooting Star" (3), "Yosuke the Shooting Star" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Satoshi Hamada: to "The Mechanic" (first game), "Tune Up" Tom Rock (2), "Tune up Junky" Koook Boosten (Zero), "Hamada the Customizer" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Yōko Murakami: to "The Brat" Christine Cox (2), Ida Balm (Zero)
    • Takabumi Ījima: to "Race Addict" Hans Ulrich (2), "White Devil" Max Maxwell (Zero), "White Devil" Takafumi Iijima (3), "Supersonic Demon" Takafumi Iijima (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Akihiro Gotō: to "Road Rage" Mike Otis (2), "Flume" Arnold Willis (Zero), "Asura" (3), "The Sensei" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Hitoshi Mitamura: to "Mumbler" Jimmy Spears (2), "Myna Bird" Webster Lewis (Zero), "Mynah Bird" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Ryūkō Murakami: to "Domino Spectrum" Ryukoh Murakami (Import Tuner Challenge)
  • The Fettered: Detuning their cars to not win through raw power leads to higher skill and mental fortitude
  • * Fire-Forged Friends:
    • Takeshi and Yosuke, by Import Tuner Challenge
    • Takeshi and Takabumi
  • Freudian Excuse:
    • Yoko cannot stand Satoshi because the latter reminds her far too much of her late father.
    • Takabumi thinks human relationships to be troublesome, but he very much felt RINGS' former leader retiring and handing the reigns to Takeshi, whom he seems in a critical light.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Yoko, making other members of RINGS feel uncomfortable. Of course, it's a very superficial thing, as seen in Import Tuner Challenge.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Takabumi Ījima does not hang out with the rest of RINGS, believing human relationships to be troublesome.
  • Goal in Life: Whilst only revealed in Import Tuner Challenge, Takeshi Miyazawa always longed to own his own tuning shop. He finally got his wish by that game. Also, making RINGS the strongest team on the Expressway, obviously.
  • Hope Bringer: Goro to other unattractive racers, Played for Laughs
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Takabumi used to be one of the strongest drivers around years prior. Now, he considers himself a failed racer, dejected and turned away by any team other than RINGS.
  • Hyper-Awareness: Yosuke Arai is capable of telling the condition of a car just by driving it and nothing else
  • Informed Attribute: Goro being unattractive
  • Ironic Name: Silver Angel does not act very angel like.
  • It's All About Me: Yoko, whom her own bio describes as selfish
  • Kavorka Man: Goro, being unattractive yet being at the center of attention and getting plenty of dates since he started racing on the Expressway
  • Like Brother and Sister: Eventually, Yoko and Satoshi, always bickering but very close underneath the surface, always helping one another.
  • Magnetic Hero: Takeshi Miyazawa, who manages to convince the rest of RINGS to follow him on enthusiasm and competence alone. Even the most sceptic, Yosuke Arai, is swayed.
  • Master of All: Satoshi Hamada, capable of doing everything car-related: driving, racing, tuning, repairs. It's how he ended up with his street name to begin with.
  • Non-Indicative Name: "Vivid Tail Slide", as beyond dates and attempts to impress people, it's barely used
  • Passing the Torch: Takeshi Miyazawa was on the receiving end of this sometime around the events of the first game. He spent the next two years earning his teammates' trust and convinced them to aim for higher goals.
  • The Perfectionist: Takeshi Miyazawa spends hours driving on the Expressway every day in order to constantly improve himself, and carries a similar mentality towards his teammates. Upon being defeated by the player, he'll furiously declare his belief that there is still a lot of room for improvement.
  • Really Gets Around: Goro dates a lot of people
  • Revolving Door Band
  • Second Place Is for Losers: Takeshi Miyazawa's personal philosophy is that as long as someone can aim higher, they should: RINGS will only be able to rest once they've become the strongest. As such, it's less "second place is for losers", but "settling for second place is for losers".
  • Sour Supporter: Yosuke Arai to Takeshi Miyazawa when compared to his predecessor. Ultimately swept away by the latter's enthusiasm
  • Talented, but Trained: Takeshi Miyazawa
  • Taught by Experience: Yosuke Arai
  • To Be a Master: Takeshi Miyazawa's goal isn't to make himself the Expressway's best, but to make RINGS the best team in the entire Expressway, which means making each individual member one of the best on the Expressway.
  • True Companions: Takeshi and Satoshi: the latter reportedly tapped the former for RINGS' next leader, and in spite of Takeshi being the senior, the two have had each other's back since they first met as RINGS members.
  • Tsundere: Yoko, towards Satoshi
  • What's He Got That I Ain't Got?!: Goro, on the receiving end due to his success with women, gets bullied
  • With Friends Like These...: Yoko and Satoshi, much to Takeshi's hire
  • Workaholic: Takeshi Miyazawa, if it means getting RINGS to the top.

SPEED MASTER

Team Members: "Ice Man" Shinji Takiguchi ☆ (until Zero), "Full Moon Insanity" Daisuke Ōkawara ☆ (regular member until 3), "Sunset Liner" Ryō Shibusawa (until Zero), "White Witch" Yūka Yamamura (until Zero), "Visual Tail" Tetsuya Kobayashi (until Zero), "Pearl White Kiss" Rena Oyama, "Maniac Player" Hidenori Inoue (until Zero), "Black Angel" Ayako Iwasaki, "First Beat" Tetsurō Akiyama, "Nameless Hero Gechena" Atsushi Kameyama (from Zero onwards), "Angry Princess" Junko Yamaguchi (from 3 onwards), "Midnight Hawks" Shin'ichirō Takayama (from 3 onwards), "Humiliation Contractor" Susumu Yagishita (from 3 onwards), "Lady White" Ryōko Honma (from 3 onwards), "Colorful Alley" Akinori Miyabe (from 3 onwards)

For tropes regarding Junko Yamaguchi when she was a member of Gesellschaft, see the team's folder here. For tropes regarding Shin'ichirō Takayama and Susumu Yagishita when they belonged to Dry Cruise, see the team's folder here.

  • Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder: Rena's bio in Zero stated she had feelings for Shinji Takiguchi. Upon Shinji's retirement, however, her feelings shifted to the new team leader, Daisuke.
  • The Ace:
    • Shinji Takiguchi, one of the best racers in all of Tokyo, incredibly knowledgeable about cars and their individual parts, incredibly charismatic, considered a symbol in his own right.
    • Daisuke Okawara finally becomes this by 3: like his predecessor, he's incredibly devout to improving, with a massive potential, one of the best racers around at a relatively young age, a very good people's person, a good leader.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Tetsuya Kobayashi
  • Becoming the Mask: Tetsuro Akiyama started racing merely for research, but found himself genuinly hooked. He joined Speed Master right afterwards.
  • Boring But Practiucal:
    • Shinji's driving style, described as old-fashioned and conservative. Likewise, he refuses to change out parts on his R34, relying on the same old, same old but knowing them like the back of his hand and allowing him to tell if something isn't running as well as it should.
    • Yuka's tuning and set-up is this compared to some of the zanier ones found across the Expressway: soft suspension, specialty sports ECU, strenghtened frame... compared, for example, to Rhythm Box's cars being covered in speakers or even Depraved Blade's unstable set-up, it's very basic. It also allows her FD to hit 350 kilometers per hour.
    • Reina's Skyline is tuned with ease of handling in mind over raw power. This leads her to sacrifice some top-end gains, but makes the car easily controllable and predictable.
    • Akinori Miyabe's driving style relies heavily on the basics. This means it doesn't truly have anything exceptional or remakrable, but that it also lacks weak spot, being simple and reliable.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Attempted, as Shinji's retirement caused one member to quit and likely lead to three more quitting, crippling the team in the process. Daisuke went above and beyond to avoid this, and succeeded by recruiting new members, a few from other members.
  • Characterization Marches On: Shinji Takiguchi was at first shown as merely bold, calm, king-like and overwhelming when driving. His final appearance in Zero finally expanded upon that, revealing that, no, he is a genuinely skilled driver who actively cares about others and puts a lot of work into his craft.
  • The Charmer: Ayako Iwasaki is this, easily charming everyone she comes across through her beauty and driving skills. She trided to use this on Tetsuro Akiyama, only for him to No-Sell it and her to all for him.
  • Childhood Friends: Yuka and Rena have been very close friends since their junior high days.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Yuka Yamamura is said to extremely eccentric with her ideas.
  • Commitment Issues:
    • Yuka Yamamura is completely uninterested in having a boyfriend at this time.
    • Likewise, Reina will claim that she prefers cars to men, being completely uninterested in men. It's ultimately a smokescreen for her unrequited crush on Shinji and, later, Daisuke.
  • Confusion Fu: What Yuka Yamamura's racing style appears to be, as she never sticks to a single line and always attacks from the most unexpected ones, causing her opponents to panic. It's all very calculated on her part, however.
  • Crippling Overspecialization:
    • Daisuke Okawara specializes in straight-run top speed runs, which puts him at a disadvantage. By 3, the pressure of leadership has finally got him to become a better racer and master that too.
    • Ayako's car is geared for top speed runs. This makes her a sitting duck against fast-accelerating cars and in areas where she can't bring out her Supra's speed. However, if she manages to get her speed up...
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Shinji Takiguchi: to "The King" Taylor Griffin (2), Alan Nguyen (Zero)
    • Daisuke Ōkawara: to "Full Moon Lunatic" (first game), "Overdrive" Trent Thatcher (2), "Crazy Moon" Anthony Avn (Zero), "The Insane Moon" Daisuke Ogawara (3), "Moon Howler" Daisuke Ookawara (Street Supremacy)
    • Ryō Shibusawa: to "Sunset Runner" (first game), "Master Planner" Timmy Lyons (2), "Sunset Rider" Steve Jacobs (Zero)
    • Yūka Yamamura: to "Sea Breeze" Gina Jones (2), Stephanie Solis (Zero)
    • Tetsuya Kobayashi: to "Steady" Steve Hartman (2), Joe Marsh, (Zero)
    • Rena Oyama: to "Paranoid" Paula O'Toole (2), "Pearl Kiss" Linda Huynh (Zero), "Pearly Whites" (Street Supremacy)
    • Hidenori Inoue: to "Piano Man" Martin Gill (2), Bob Phlance (Zero)
    • Ayako Iwasaki: to "Man Eater" Alicia Lopez (2), Jen Reil (Zero)
    • Tetsurō Akiyama: to "Cover Story" Ed Meier (2), "Fast Beat" Ed Lai (Zero), "Fast Beat" (Street Supremacy)
    • Atsushi Kameyama: to "Unknown Hero" Tim Jones (Zero), "The Nameless Hero" (3), "Jackpot" (Street Supremacy)
    • Shin'ichirō Takayama: to Shinichiro Kozan (Street Supremacy)
    • Susumu Yagishita: to "The Contractor" Susumi Yagishita (3), "Big Disgrace" Susumu Yanagishita (Street Supremacy)
    • Akinori Miyabe: to "Backstreet" (3), "Love Machine" (Street Supremacy)
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Out of the old guard members, Daisuke was openly loathed by Tetsuya and Ryo, whilst Hidenori thought Yuka was the right person to become the new leader.
  • Friendly Rival: Ryoko Honma is this to Daisuke Okawara, being described as "fighting friends
  • Hero-Worshipper: Shinji Takiguchi is on the receiving end of this by a lot of racers, who were all inspired by him to start running. He personally talks to them and gives them advice on a regular basis.
  • Hidden Depths: In spite of having picked up highway racing to find her missing brother, Ayako is a genuinly skilled all-around race car driver, having won a drag race tournament in the time between Zero and 3.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Yuka Yamamura has an entire queue of men trying to court her who fall into this trope by default, since she is nowhere near remotely interested in the idea of having a boyfriend at the moment. One of them is Tetsuya Kobayashi
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Reina has feelings for Shinji and, later, Daisuke. She refused to quit Speed Master alongside Yuka almost exclusively for the latter, but she never managed to spit it out.
  • Informed Attribute: Daisuke is purported to be "faster" than Shinji Takiguchi. Not only does Shinji's car have better parts, but a better set-up and top speed to boot.
  • Instant Expert: Ayako. According to 3, she only has two years of experience by that point, meaning she managed to join Speed Master as a complete rookie.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Tetsuro Akiyama, having become a street racer to write reports about them. He later begun writing books about the subject matter, including one on Jintei.
  • It's All About Me: Tetsuya Kobayashi, in spite of having joined Speed Master very recently, thinks of himself extremely highly, and believes himself to be the only one who can be the next leader. When that doesn't happen, he promptly quits.
  • It's All My Fault: Daisuke will react this way if Speed Master disbands whilst he's the leader and the player is a member in Street Supremacy. He's not going to take it egregiously bad, but there'll be a tinge of regret.
  • Kansas City Shuffle: After folks started declaring Ryō Shibusawa's "genius strategy" of going off-rhythm, he decided to not correct them and let them think that way in spite of it not being on purpose, but how he genuinly drives. It likely feeds into his myth and causes them to get the wrong read on his movements.
  • Killing Intent: In a sense, the mere act of sitting behind a steering wheel by Shinji Takiguchi causes people to feel a freezing cold aura radiating off of him. It only gets stronger when he starts tailing an opponent's car.
  • Knowledge Broker: Tetsurō Akiyama doubles as this. Ayako approached him exactly for this reason, looking for information on her brother. Jintei.
  • The Lad-ette: Reina does not limit herself to race, she's also openly interested in tuning and set-ups, to the point of being Speed Master's go-to mechanic.
  • Last of His Kind: Junko Yamaguchi is the last of the former Gesellschaft members to still be an active racer by 33.
  • Might Makes Right: Daisuke believes the Expressway works this way. Although he doesn't openly express any strong feelings over the matter, he does seem disappointed by its consequences, such as chewing up and spitting out talented drivers.
  • Nerves of Steel: Shinji Takiguchi
  • The Only One I Trust: Ryō Shibusawa exclusively trusts Shinji Takiguchi, to the point he's the only member of the team he openly listens to and gives the benefit of doubt.
  • The Paranoiac: Rena Oyama used to live a very ordinary, plain life, until something happened that caused her to constantly feel like something was chasing after her. She begun racing on the Expressway to escape from this feeling, this undetermined "something". She grew out of it by Zero, but she still remains a bit out there.
  • Passed-Over Promotion: Tetsuya was convinced he was next in line to lead Speed Master upon learning that Shinji was considering retirement. The leadership went to Daisuke instead.
  • Passing the Torch
  • Revolving Door Band:
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Tetsuya Kobayashi wanted to succeed Ice Man at leading the team. Upon Daisuke succeeding the latter, Tetsuya up and left, causing a chain reaction and almost causing the team to collapse in the process. Although not directly confirmed, it is likely this is also why Ryo, Hidenori, Yuka quit Speed Master, with the former two backing other team members for the role (Ryo backed Tetsuya, Hidenori backed Yuka).
  • Shared Family Quirk: Ayako and Jintei: street racers and instant experts.
  • She's a Man in Japan: In spite of retaining the same name, international releases of Street Supremacy utilize male pronouns to refer to Ayako.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Daisuke to the player in Street Supremacy.
  • Strategy, Schmategy: Ryō Shibusawa takes corner slower than others, which causes his racing rhytm to go out of whack. This is completely unintentional and subconscious on his part, even after he's been made aware of it.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Ryō Shibusawa's driving style accidentally causes him to go out of rhythm; his opponents believe this to be a strategy of his, and he doesn't correct any of them.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Tetsuya Kobayashi, less evil and more dislikeable.
  • Unknown Relative: Ayako to Jintei. In the Street Supremacy continuity, she's found out about his identity, and continues to race to try and get close to him.
  • Workaholic: Akinori Miyabe, being the newest member of Speed Master, is nonetheless an extremely hard worker, eager to learn, constantly buying books on cars and racing and listening to the stories of drivers in the various parking areas.
  • You Fool!: Daisuke will call the player this should Speed Master defeat their team in Street Supremacy.
  • Young and in Charge: Daisuke is considered this, in spite of having raced for eight years by the time of 3 and nearing his thirties by Street Supremacy. In fact, he's not even in the youngest half of the team's drivers after Ice Man leaves.

LITTLE GANG

Team Members: "Happy and Run" Yōichi Takasu ☆, "Kiss My Bumper" Musashi Takaya, "Talking Headbutt" Naritarō Sada, "Mister Thank You" Yukio Karashima, "Spring Bird" Nobumasa Hijikata, "Lazy Tarō" Kazuo Kokubo

Little Gang was a very short-lived team, established with the idea of having fun in mind. With an easy-going atmosphere, many rookies and newcomers to street racing flocked to their ranks, something that slowly caused something of a competitive spirit to emerge deep within the team. However, before anything could change, Little Gang dissolved in thin air after the events of Zero.
  • A Father to His Men: Yoichi, looking after them and giving them sound advice. He's greatly respected as a result.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Yoichi Takasu, as a result of being uninterest in battles. He's otherwise a surprisingly competent racer
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Yōichi Takasu: to "Joy Rider" Rick Barry, "Happy Run" Rick Barry
    • Musashi Takaya: to "Can Man" Joe Russell, "Kiss my Bumper" Z Moe
    • Naritarō Sada: to "Funny Bone" Vic Mandel, "Talking Head" Brian Wilson
    • Yukio Karashima: to "The Snake" Tom Marvin, "Mr. Thanks" Truman Corwin
    • Nobumasa Hijikata: to "Comeback Kid" Rico Louis, Mack Ross
    • Kazuo Kokubo: to "Lazy Bones" Bart Micheals, "Lazy Butt" Wally Walton
  • Meaningful Name: "Mister Thank You" got the street name because he's always grateful to others, no matter how small what he does might be.
  • With Friends Like These...

KNIFE & FORKS

Team Members: "Matchless Full Course" Masayuki Miura ☆, "Table Manners" Tsutomu Kagawa, "Romanée-Conti" Shuhei Kijima, "Midnight à La Mode" Yuji Nishitani, "Golden Cream Sauce" Sukeyuki Saeki, "Four Star Driver" Pierre Tanaka, "Crimson Tablecloth" Asami Hanata

  • Amicable Exes: There have been cases of inter-team romance, at times a teammate left one to hook up with another. In spite of that, it did nothing to cause tensions on the workplace or undermine team unity.
  • Angry Chef: Yuji Nishitani, not "always angry" and doesn't appear to be abusive towards any of his teammates, but short tempered and known for putting more spices in his dishes after losing
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: "Romanée-Conti" Shuhei Kijima doesn't just have an encyclopedic knowledge of wines, but one of cars too, making him capable of easily recognizing well-tuned vehicles and highly skilled drivers with nothing more but a simple glance. This has earned him the nickname of "Car Somélier".
  • But Not Too Foreign: Pierre Tanaka, apprentice chef at the restaurant, is half-French, half-Japanese.
  • Chef of Iron: Yuji Nishitani, Pierre Tanaka, and Sukeyuki Saeki are, respectively, the chef, apprentice chef and patissier of La Libertè, and all three are active street racers. Of the lot, however, only Tanaka is recognized for his skills in the latter.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Masayuki Miura: to "Mr. Full Course" Ted Smith, "Invincible Dinner" Sheldon Lowell, "Invincible Meal" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Tsutomu Kagawa: to "Car Guy" Charlie Roberts, Tom Harrison, "
    • Shuhei Kijima: to "Red & White" Alan Starr, "Street Wine" Jimmy Solara
    • Yuji Nishitani: to "Hot Head" Jon Tepper, "Golden Cream Soup" Greg Purcott, "Gold Curry Sauce" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Sukeyuki Saeki: to "A La Mode" Brian Silver, Guido Harkness, "Twilight A La Mode" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Pierre Tanaka: to "The Technician" Pierre Rhodes, "4 Star Driver" Elvis Turner
    • Asami Hanata: to "Happy Face" Julie Summers, "Red Table Cloth" Johnny Perkins, Asami Hanaya (3), Mami Hanatani (Import Tuner Challenge)
  • Found Family via Work
  • French Cuisine Is Haughty: La Libertè, the restaurant which employs the entire team, is a French-style bistrot with an impressive wine selection and a short-tempered chef at its employ. It's definitely not a cheap establishment to eat at, judging by how much money the team has to throw around on an expensive hobby like cars and how they're planning to open two more locations in Nagoya and Osaka in Import Tuner Challenge. Bonus points for having an half-French apprentice chef.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen
  • Loved by All
  • Meaningful Name: The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is considered one of the world's greatest wine-producing estates. Shuhei Kijima, whose street name is derived from it, is an extremely renowned wine somelier.
  • Nice Girl: Asami Hanata, waitress and de facto face of La Libertè, is known for her warm smile and capacity of making everyone feel at ease
  • Real Men Cook: On top of being decently-to-good skilled street racers, the restaurant's two chefs (and patissier) are both men.
  • Red Baron: Shuhei Kijima, on top of his street name of "Romanée-Conti", is also known in some circles as "Car Somèlier" thanks to his encyclopedic knowledge of wines and cars.
  • Theme Naming: Every member's street name is related to an element of a restaurant.
    • "Crimson Tablecloth" refers, obviously enough, to the table cloths in use by restaurants. More specifically, it refers to the red tablecloths once in use in some high cuisine restaurant that have since fallen out of style.
    • "Four Star Driver" refers to the five-star rating system invented in 1958 to review hotels, which has since spread and has become used to review just about anything. An unlikely alternative is it referring to the Michelin star rating system, which goes up to three: thus, Tanaka literally broke the ratings' scale.
    • "Golden Cream Sauce" refers to Sukeyuki's job as the patissiere of La Libertè and the color of some French sweet dishes, most famously crème brûlée. "Golden cream sauce" is also used to refer to saffron sauce, an incredibly expensive cream used in some Mediterranean dishes, including French ones.
    • "Midnight à La Mode" refers to "à la mode", which is a French term used to say "a dish made or served in a certain style".
    • As mentioned under Meaningful Name, "Romanée-Conti" refers to the world-renowed wine-producing estate.
    • "Table Manners" refers to the etiquette one is expected to carry whilst eating in the company of others, especially at higher-class locales.
    • Finally, "Matchless Full Course" refers to, well, a restaurant's full course, whose size can vary but classically includes an appetizer, a first, a second, a dessert and an accompaniying drink during or afterwards.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Knife & Forks gradually grow better through-out the entire series: they start off as very early game opponents in 2 and Zero, usually the third or fourth team players defeat, before upgrading their cars and moving to Yokohane in 3, where they're noticeably tougher. They've switched their original cars out for high-performing ones in Import Tuner Challenge, becoming a late-game team in the process. In-Universe, the team has always been held back by their gentlemanly manners and complete lack of hostility between its members: Masayuki Miura, the team's leader, noticed these flaws and realized that this approach was becoming unsubstainable, which caused him to put down an ultimatum to improve. It clearly seems to have paid off.
  • Tranquil Fury: On a good day after losing, Yuji Nishitani will not express it outwardly, but through his cooking.
  • True Companions:

BLACK KNIGHTS

Team Members: "Sword of Dragon" Kyōhei Ryūsaki ☆, "Dark Attendant" Jō Mikami, "Dark Executioner" Tetsuji Etō, "Dark Eyes" Ichirō Kashiwara, "Shibuya Crow" Tōru Kamiya, "Shrouding Dark Cloud" Norio Hashimoto, "Black Clothed Miracle" Masaaki Mukai

  • Dark Is Not Evil
  • Team Dad: Ichiro often serves as the mediator for other team members whenever disputes arise, calming everyone down and finding solutions. Mikami and Eto's constant fighting would've made the team fall apart by now if Ichiro wasn't there to hold everything together, making him more of a leader than Kyohei. Unlike typical Team Dads, however, he's very warm and human towards others, adding in a touch of Team Mom.
  • Friendship Favoritism: In contrast with the rest of the team, Kyohei adores Tetsuji, loving him like a little brother and focusing all of his attention on him. This causes Mikami to browbeat Kyohei for playing favorites, causing Tetsuji to stand up for their leader, leading to a vicious cycle that risks destroying the team — if it hasn't.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: No one besides Kyohei even remotely tolerates Eto. Toru believes Eto to be the key source of drama and dissension within the team.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Masaaki has reportedly known Kyohei for years beforehand. In spite of that, he's rarely seen with the rest of the Black Knights, and prefers to either run alone or go skirt-chasing.
  • Knowledge Broker: Toru Kamiya has information and can get information on every driver, not just in Kanto Prefecture but across all of Japan. That's the main reason why Kyohei brought him onboard.
  • Mysterious Employer: As Kyōhei Ryūsaki built and financed the team from the ground up for his own amusement, he also doubles as the Black Knights' employer. No one knows a thing about him, not even team members closest to him like Etō, he just gives out orders and everyone follows thanks to his money and charisma.
  • Mysterious Past: On paper, Kyōhei is the president of a trading company specializing in antiques. In practice, his real job is completely unknown, and all sorts of rumours abound on his past, including his being a former test driver.
  • Only Friend: Kyōhei is the only member of the team to openly treat Etō well, almost like a younger brother. Every other member of the Black Knights looks down on him due to his haughty personality.
  • The Rival: Etō and Mikami cannot stand each other: the former finds the an arrogant lackey with no skill and cannot stand how he tries to browbeat the team leader, whilst the latter finds the former's personality unbearable.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The logical result of a mercenary team — team members (mostly) respect Kyohei and follow him through raw charisma, but they're constantly bickering and fighting one another.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Norio Hashimoto joined the team after being starstruck by Kyohei's charisma. As such, although he isn't the fastest or the best, he constantly strives to improve to finally be noticed and get his approval.

GALAXY RACERS

Team Members: "Dependable Club President" Kenji Akibara ☆ (regular member from 3 onwards), "Broken Arrow" Kazuto Miyama, "Love And Fantasy Erotica" Shina Masanobu, "Mister Othello" Toshiya Nishiura ☆ (regular member until 3), "Sweet Honey" Akiya Hisako, "Sabrina" Rena Okamoto, "Eternal Red Zone" Shimizu Keigo

  • Childhood Friend: Rena and Akiya have been the best friends long before university. Even though the former knows next to nothing about cars, she still joined the Galaxy Racers to keep an eye out on the latter.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Toshiya hopelessly carries a torch for fellow team mate Akiya, knowing full well he has no chance of winning her over. If Street Supremacy is canon, that is exactly what happened soon after he became the team's leader.
  • Japanese School Club: Of the very rare college-level variety.
  • The Mentor: Kenji Akibara mentored Kazuto Miyama and Masanobu Shīna, teaching them everything he knew about cars, tuning, and racing.
  • New Meat:
    • Rena Okamoto knows little-to-nothing about cars and joined the team to keep an eye out for her best friend Akiya. In spite of her hard working nature and willingness to learn, she's mostly looked down by the rest of the team, and heavily relies on Kenji Akibara's help to get by, even after he's left university to start his own garage.
    • Shimizu Kogo signed up for university and joined the Galaxy Racers shortly before the events of 3. As such, he's still learning the ropes and doing things no experienced driver would do, such as constantly redlining his car. In spite of all this, he has the reputation of a "terrible rookie", capable of beating an R32 under the right circumstances.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: Toshiya Nishiura was not expected to be made the new leader after Akibara, nor was he expecting it himself. As such, he finds himself wholly unprepared on all accounts, too distracted by his crush on a fellow team member to get things together.
  • Promoted to Playable: They're one of fifteen teams the player can join in Street Supremacy.
  • Passing Of The Torch: Kenji Akibara, first leader of the team, handed the reigns over to Toshiya Nishiura after leaving the university. In spite of that, he remained a supportive member of the Galaxy Racers until the team dissolved.
  • The Rival: Rena Okamoto has one with "Midnight Blue" Kazuyuki Inakoshi due to his obsession with her best friend. As such, the two clash frequently in defense and in pursuit, respectively, of Akiya.
  • School Clubs Are Serious Business
  • Take a Third Option: Kenji Akibara, then leader of the team, was expected to pick one of his two students, Kazuto Miyama and Masanobu Shina, to succeed him when it became apparent he was going to step down. Akibara was of the same idea, until he noticed how much Kazuto and Masanobu were arguing and fighting for who'd get the spot. Fed up with it, he decided to pick neither and hand the leader position to Toshiya Nishiura, a complete outsider. This, of course, lead to everyone else disagreeing, and lead to further in-fighting.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Nishiura being chosen to lead the team split it into three separate camps: those who agreed with former leader Akibara's choice, those who had backed Miyama for the spot, or those who backed Shina as leader.

DEPARTURES

Team Members: "Happy Chappy" Michiro Tokashiki ☆, "Midnight Executioner" Tetsuya Nakane (until Zero), "Sweet Surrender" Michika Sano, "Cool Site" Kei Soma, "Great Finance" Hiroshi Aizawa, "Up Beat" Hiroyuki Nakano, "Glass Nobleman" Satoru Shimosato (until 3)

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Michika Sano trusts data and numbers above any feeling. She always keeps a laptop on his passenger's seat to record driving data, get directions, and tune his car's electronics on the fly
  • Fire-Forged Friends: As they were brought together artificially, on top of their strong individual personalities, the team didn't gel together for years. In spite of that, they continued to stick together and never really dissolved, and by the time of Import Tuner Challenge, they've become very close with one another.
  • Friend on the Force: Team leader used to be a well-known police officer, if not a downright influential one according to rumors. He still gets real-time information on traffic jams, accidents, and construction work from his former co-workers, which reportedly gives him an edge in races.
  • Irony: Team leader, as a policeman, used to get into high-speed chases. He resigned after being moved to a desk job to continue being in high-speed chases, this time as a street racer.
  • Morality Chain: Team leader has his unseen family as this: whenever he thinks of doing something reckless, thinking of them is enough to deter him.

RHYTHM BOX

Team Members: "Hip Hop Red" Kaoru Iguchi ☆, "Jazz Green" Hiroshi Okamoto, "Classical Blue" Ryoma Igarashi, Takayoshi "Paul" Suzuki (first game only), "Pink Groove" Misa Yoshida, "Midnight Blue" Kazuyuki Inakoshi, "Raging Coreographer" Toru Murasaki (from 2 onwards)

  • Steel Ear Drums: Members tend to listen to their favorite genre at full blast, loud enough that it can be heard from the outside. Special mention to Kaoru Iguchi, whose car is covered top to bottom in aftermarket speaker.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: All members bar one at all times have street names containing one genre of music and one colour. Kazuyuki seems to buck the trend, when in reality, "midnight" is a subgenre of electronic music.
  • Odd Name Out: Originally, it was Takayoshi Suzuki whose street name did not fit with the rest of the team. His replacement, Toru Murasaki, also has a street name that doesn't contain a music genre nor a colour, but coreography is atleast more thematically appropriate for a music-themed team.

HARMONIZE

Team Members: "Visual Driver" Sōichi Okita ☆, Keigo "Corner Block" Gojō, "Shutokou Silver Arrow" Kōsuke Shimada, "Aero Star" Kazutomo Matsubara, Shinnosuke "Water Drift" Ashiya, "Brand New Thunder" Masashi Hatanaka, "Dreaming Flash" Sōji Harasawa

GESELLSCHAFT

Team Members: "Time is Money" Toshio Kabaya ☆, "Dawn Lost Grass" Takeshi Kanzaki, "Lonely Survivor" Mamoru Momouchi, "Cool Advertiser" Tomohiro Teruya, "Happy Extreme" Takuya Kusano, "Angry Princess" Junko Yamaguchi

  • Goal in Life
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: One possible way Gesellschaft's break-up can be seen. The team's end goal was always to develop its members as street racers: with Junko Yamaguchi being drafted into the ranks of Speed Master, one of the strongest teams in all of Tokyo, the team's goal had effectively been reached.
  • To Be a Master

QUEEN'S PARADISE

Team Members: "Shocking Joe" Tetsuharu Kōda ☆, "Sunday" Kōji Kawada, Norio "Balalaika" Katō, Kenji "Chopper" Tanaka, "Lucky Man" Yuki Isaka, "Dawn Ballade" Takenosuke Hashida, "Phantom Lohengrin" Seiji Fukaya

  • Impossible Task: Tetsuharu was told by his cousin that "if he became the fastest man on the Expressway, he was going to become popular with the ladies". Not only he realized said claim to be false, but even if it was true, he realized just how out of his league he was.
  • There Are Two Kinds of People in the World: Quoted almost word-by-word in Tetsuharu's bio, where, after first becoming a street racer, he realized there were two kinds of people racing on the Tokyo Expressway: "Those who are good drivers but unpopular with women, and those who are popular with women but aren't good drivers". He naturally found himself leading both.

Ten years before the events of the series, a group of friends passionately following the deeds of the Four Devas decided to create their own team. Together, they'd become one of Tokyo's fastes groups, only to suddenly vanish in thin air. But now that the Devas are gone, True Ride makes its return from a long hiatus, with the objective of reclaiming their place amongst the fastest teams on the Expressway.

UNLIMITED

Team Members: "Killing Machine" Shuhei Kitagata ☆, "Wandering MONSTER" Hiroshige Takase, "Scotch Limited Express" Yoshiyuki Tamba, Toriyumi "Yes Man Nao" Naoyuki, "Great Warlock" Shun Sonoda, Hisatani "Pit Viper Kyo" Kyoji, "Sleeping" Kei Konishi, "Asphalt's Sorrow" Yasuhiko Fujisaki (from 3 onwards)

  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: What got Yasuhiko Fujisaki to jump ship from Rotary Revolution to Unlimited... atleast from his point of view.
  • All Caps
  • Meaningful Name: Shuhei Kitakata's attitude was described as unflappable, cold, unmovable whilst part of Speed Box, with a surgical precision in driving to match. He was called "more of a machine than a man"... guess you could call him "Killing Machine"...
  • Start My Own:
  • The Stoic: Back when he was still a member of Speed Box, Shuhei Kitakata was described as completely unflappable, not even moving an eyebrow whilst racing.

FANATIC FUTURE

Team Members: Chiaki "Burning" Nakamura ☆, Takeru "Cool" Hosoda, Daimo "Mysterious" Matsuzawa, "Burning Warlord" Hiroshi Kuze, "Intelligent Teacher" Hirofumi Katano, "Extraordinary Man" Kazuhiro Minagawa, "Love Knuckle" Ai Kaneko

Highly skilled, incredibly competent, and blistening fast, APS were not originally a street racing team: rather, they were a group of people whose common point was the willingness to dive headfirst into anything they deemed interesting. No one's quite sure what they were up to before appearing and becoming one of the top teams of the area, but apparently it's a secret hidden in plain sight: the cat ear and pawprint on their logo contains the answer...
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Kōshi Kondō: to "Jamz" James Louis, "Yokohane's Heavy Fighter" (3), "Panel Bomber" (Import Tuner Challenge)
    • Masahiro Torī: to "Blocky Rider" Tom Myroniak

  • Theme Naming: Each member picked their street name after a specific breed of dog. Moreso, their street names are also consistently written in the exact same way: the dog's breed followed by the driver's surname.

INFINITY

  • Cool Old Guy: Hirotaka Suzuki is in his fifties, and yet he's still an incredibly talented racer.
    • Generally speaking, almost all members of Glory Days are towards the older end of the scale for street racers, from their forties onwards.
  • Glory Days: All members deeply love classic sports cars from past eras, particularly those from the Eighties, whilst grudgingly looking down on newer, contemporary models and deeming them inferior. Also, if it wasn't clear enough, the trope is literally the team's name.

As they're fought one after the other, the player symbolically climbs through humanity and up the earth until reaching the heavens... which leads us to...

BOSSES

PLATINUM PRINCE

Car: Mazda RX-7 FD3S

  • The Aloner
  • Arch-Enemy: Considers Snake Eyes as his
  • Cynicism Catalysm: Oh, boy. His divorce, which was caused by Rotary Revolution's dissolution, which was caused by their defeat at the hands of Snake Eyes, which was arguably caused by Toshitsugu's death...
  • Hero Antagonist
  • He Who Fights Monsters
  • Miles to Go Before I Sleep: Literally has nothing left in life other than revenge on Snake Eyes, which is what drives him forwards.
  • Last of His Kind: Last remaining member of Rotary Revolution
  • Non-Idle Rich: In contrast to his brother Toshitsugu, Toshihiko is a lot more involved with running his family's Zaibatsu and Rotary Revolution, taking them as serious ordeals. He also takes up the fight to Snake Eyes directly.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang
SILENCE CASSIOPEIA

CRIMSON BOY

Car: Nissan Fairlady Z33

GOLDEN WISDOM

Car: Nissan Fairlady Z32

  • Chromatic Arrangement: The green to OIM's blue and Crimson Boy's red
  • * Nice Mean And In Between
  • Tsundere: Will congratulate and thank the player for beating Snake Eyes, only to verbally backpedal and tell them to not take it as a compliment or think of it as him saying they're any good.

NAMAHAGE

Car: Toyota Supra JZA70

SNAKE EYES

Car: Toyota Supra JZA80

  • '90s Hair
  • Arch-Enemy: Considers Jintei to be this
  • Barbarian Longhair
  • Big Bad
  • Climax Boss: In spite of being the game's Big Bad, he's this, being fought three quarters of the way through the game. His defeat will herald the end of his reign over the Expressway, the resumption of expeditions to Tokyo from the rest of Japan, and Jintei's return.
  • Conspicuous Gloves
  • Cynicism Catalyst
  • The Dreaded
  • Evil Counterpart: To Jintei
  • Evil Wears Black: Black longcoat and pants, hard to tell due to the silhouettes being in black-and-orange. His car also favours dark colours, with black being one of the two dominant ones.
  • Fatal Flaw
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Power. He defeated the other members of the PHANTOM 9 before enrolling them into his team. Some tend to panic at the idea of not being strong enough to retain their spot, but all but one abandon him upon his defeat at the hands of the player.
  • Improbable Age: Like Jintei before him.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Presents himself as Tokyo's fastest, got destroyed by Jintei years ago
  • It's Personal: Towards Jintei
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: As dislikable as Snake Eyes is, he still did the exact same thing Purple Meteor, Jintei and the player did by climbing to the top of the Metropolitan Expressway.
  • Orcus on His Throne: In spite of half of Tokyo gunning for his head, Hajime really doesn't do much of anything to preventively strike, letting the PHANTOM 9 act on his behalf and otherwise leaving the teams that survived his campaign of terror be. Turns out, it's because of his Batman Gambit on the player, which he set into motion as soon as he begun defeating the Expressway's old legends: he needs the player to make it all the way to him for this to work.
  • Pet the Dog: For all his flaws and issues, Hajime never treats anyone with disrespect, especially his subordinates, and should he defeat the player, he'll readily invite them to join his team, holding no ill will towards them.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Tendentially black clothing and car with the inside of the headlights painted red.
  • Talented, but Trained
  • Took a Level in Badass
  • The Worf Effect
