Madara leaves the Fujiwaras' house and Natsume after he and Natsume have a fight.

- The Alcoholic: The midlevels complain that Madara is always drinking and Tamiko notices that he smells like sake.
- Battle Cry: Nyanko shouts “Chow time!” as he leaps at a group of sparrows at the start of the episode.
- Berserk Button: Tamiko pushes Nyanko’s by insinuating his Maneki Neko form is fat, but she quickly corrects herself before he has a chance to.
- Big Eater: Natsume yells at Nyanko for eating the food Touko had bought for dinner, and generally cleaning out the fridge. His eating habits are also one of the things the midlevels complain about amongst themselves. When he comes across Kitamoto and Nishimura in his school girl form he forces them to buy him food until they are completely out of money.
- Blue with Shock: The midlevels turn blue when they realize Madara-sama has snuck up on them while they were complaining about him.
- Came from the Sky: Tamiko thinks Nyanko fell from the sky when he lands next to her.
- Canis Major: Madara transforms into his true form as a giant inugami to fight Enkou and get Tamiko out of the pit and to the police station.
- Catch Your Death of Cold: Tamiko starts coughing after being stuck in the pitfall during some rain.
- Cuteness Proximity: Tamiko’s reaction to getting a good look at Nyanko is to cheerful chant Kawaii while clapping her hands.
- Dreadful Musician: The midlevel youkai discuss that Madara is a terrible singer when discussing how annoying he is.
- Exhausted Eye Bags: After Madara drags them around the evening before and keeps them from going home when they want to Kitamoto and Nishimura have dark circles the next day at school.
- Failed a Spot Check: When the midlevel youkai are discussing the reasons they don’t want to have to put up with Madara he actually joins their conversation for a bit before they realize he’s there.
- A Form You Are Comfortable With: Madara discusses this as he yells about how his cat form is not his true form and how noble and imposing his true form is, of course Tamiko cannot see his true form as it is Invisible to Normals.
- Get Out!: Natsume tells Nyanko-sensei to get out after he refuses to come clean about eating the shrimp despite evidence that he has or apologize about being a problem for the Fujiwaras which Natsume has repeatedly asked him to avoid being and breaks the case of a CD Natsume had borrowed from Nishimura, he does look shocked as soon as he says it but Nyanko jumps out the window insulted before he can say anything else.
- Ghostly Chill: Tanuma feels a strange chill as Madara leaves the temple.
- Girlish Pigtails: Little girl Tamiko wears her hair in low tied twin tails.
- Gratuitous English: Evidently the recurring bull midlevel knows the alphabet as when his one-eyed companion questions CD in the wake of Madara’s anger he replies with E… F… G…
- Harmless Electrocution: The midlevels are smoking, knocked over and dazed after Madara strikes them with lightning but appear to suffer no lasting ill effects.
- Insistent Terminology: Madara insists that Kitamoto and Nishimura refer to him as sensei and corrects them when they ask if he/she is Natsume’s friend insisting that he is his sensei.
- In Vino Veritas: One of the complaints the midlevels have about Madara is that he is a mean drunk.
- Kappa: Enkou appears to be a large kappa-zaru.
- Knockback Slide: Madara attacks Enkou when Enkou says he is going to go after the Book of Friends now that Madara has left the human who carries it and Enkou leaves gouges in the ground as he pulls himself to a stop from momentum of the attack.
- The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: While Madara talks about how annoying humans are he nuzzles Tamiko’s hand as she pets him before he realizes what he is doing and jumps away from her.
- No Name Given: The midlevels, including the recurring one-eyed youkai and bull youkai have no known names.
- Please, Don't Leave Me: Tamiko grabs ahold of Nyanko when he starts to climb out of the pit and begs him not to leave her alone down there.
- Replacement Goldfish: Madara returns to the Fujiwaras house only to see Natsume playing with a kitten the Fujiwaras are watching for three days while a friend is on a business trip which has just been fed out of his own bowl and he turns around and leaves before Natsume even sees him thinking he’s been replaced.
- Right Behind Me: While the midlevel youkai are talking about how annoying Madara is he walks up behind them.
- Running Gag: Tamiko mistakes Nyanko for a white pig.
- Shock and Awe: Madara strikes the midlevels with a lightning bolt.
- Shrines and Temples: Madara visits the temple Tanuma lives at to request that his father, who is a monk, “Purify Yatsuhara. It's home to a nest of ungrateful youkai. Purify it so hard they can never live there again.” in response to hearing the midlevels complain about him.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Nyanko says he did not eat Tamiko’s shrimp has not idea what could have happened to the shrimp and then says not to get worked up about a little shrimp, or thirteen.
- Talking Animal: Madara talks while in his Nyanko form to Tamiko though he is usually pretty good about not doing so in font of people who are not Natsume and Sasada takes note of the cat laughing as that is obviously very strange.
- Video Arcade: Kitamoto and Nishimura went to one after school which they leave shortly before coming across Madara in his Reiko like form, and end up going back there with Madara.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Madara shifts into his school girl form resembling Reiko to speak to Tanuma’s dad.
- Weather Manipulation: While Madara yells at the midlevels dark clouds gather above them and he finishes chewing them out by hitting them with lightning.
