  • Olly Alexander, an openly gay singer.
  • Alexander James Adams, a transgender singer who previously went by "Heather Alexander". He's known for his folk, filk, and Celtic music.
  • Chino Amobi, a Nigerian Igbo-American electronic musician who identifies as queer.
  • Anne-Marie, English singer who revealed she was attracted to men and women in 2018 but doesn't like to identify herself as bisexual.
  • Omar Apollo, an openly gay R&B singer-songwriter.
  • Arca, an openly trans and non-binary producer and singer.
  • David Archuleta, an American singer-songwriter and former American Idol runner-up, identifies himself as queer.
  • Howard Ashman, a gay lyricist known for collaborating with Alan Menken on Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Cited as the one man most responsible for the Disney Renaissance. Died of AIDS in 1991.
  • Tom Aspaul, gay singer-songwriter.
  • Aurora, Norwegian singer-songwriter who has described dating both men and women.
  • Emilie Autumn, American singer-songwriter and violinist, is asexual.
  • Backxwash, Zambian-born Canadian rapper and producer, is a transgender female.
  • Long John Baldry, a British musician and actor, was gay.
  • Azealia Banks, openly bisexual rapper known for hits such as "212" and "Anna Wintour".
  • William Basinki, gay American avant-garde composer best known for his "The Disintegration Loops" series of albums.
  • Lance Bass is a member of boy band *NSYNC and is also a film and TV producer. He came out as gay in 2006 and has written a memoir titled Out of Sync.
  • Joshua Bassett, singer and actor with a starring role in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, came out as queer in 2021.
  • Be Steadwell is a queer musician who does a mix of soul, folk, and pop. Most of her songs are about romantic relationships between women.
  • Taylor Bennett, rapper and younger brother of Chance the Rapper, is bisexual.
  • Leonard Bernstein, bisexual American composer and conductor of the 20th century.
  • Sam Bettens, Belgian musician best known for his work as lead singer of K's Choice, came out as a transgender man in 2019.
  • Big Freedia, rapper best known for popularizing the bounce music genre. Self-describes as "gender nonconforming, fluid, non-binary" and doesn’t have any preferred pronouns.
  • Rebecca Black, American singer known for her hit "Friday" came out as queer in 2020.
  • Lydia Grace Blezard, pansexual trans woman known for her band Different Devils, among others.
  • David Bowie, singer and actor known for such hits as "Space Oddity", "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes". Infamously flip-flopped on his sexuality over the years, describing himself as gay, bisexual, and "a closet heterosexual" in that order, but was described by his first wife as bisexual.
  • Phoebe Bridgers, American singer-songwriter, is bisexual.
  • Cacola, American electronic musician known for her 2021 album A Gift to Us All, is transfeminine and uses she/it pronouns.
  • John Cage, bisexual American experimental composer of the 20th century.
  • Ethel Cain, American singer-songwriter, is a bisexual transgender woman.
  • Cakes Da Killa, an openly gay East Coast rapper.
  • Tevin Campbell, R&B singer known for hits like "Can We Talk" and "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do", as well as voicing Powerline in A Goofy Movie, came out as gay in August 2022.
  • Cardi B, Grammy award-winning rapper, is openly bisexual.
  • Brandi Carlile, Grammy award-winning American singer-songwriter, is openly lesbian.
  • Wendy Carlos, legendary synth pioneer best known for helping develop the Moog synthesizer, is a trans woman and one of the first celebrities to disclose having undergone gender-reassignment surgery. She's perhaps best known for reworking famous Classical Music pieces into the soundtrack of A Clockwork Orange.
  • Vanessa Carlton, bisexual singer known for her hit "A Thousand Miles".
  • Aaron Carter, American singer, came out as bisexual in 2019.
  • Cavetown, English indie pop singer-songwriter, has identified as being on the asexual and aromantic spectrums and had at least one boyfriend. He also came out as transgender in 2020 (though he transitioned prior to becoming famous).
  • Cazwell, an openly gay rapper.
  • Christine and the Queens, French singer, is pansexual and genderqueer.
  • Club 69, real name Peter Rauhofer, was an openly gay Austrian-American DJ known for his remixes for various musicians, including Madonna, Cher, and Whitney Houston.
  • Amy Cook, American singer-songwriter, is a lesbian.
  • Jayne County, former frontwoman of pro-punk band Wayne County and the Electric Chairs, and the first openly trans rock singer.
  • Simon Curtisnote , an openly gay singer-songwriter, record producer, actor and novelist, known for appearing in the Nickelodeon TV Movie, Spectacular!.
  • Miley Cyrus, former child actress and Child Popstar, who starred in Disney Channel TV show Hannah Montana. She describes herself as pansexual and genderfluid and is an outspoken LGBT activist.
  • Angel Olsen, American singer-songwriter, is pansexual.

  • Lucy Dacus, American singer-songwriter, says that the terms bisexual or pansexual come closest to describing her sexuality.
  • Daphnis (channel), a Canadian transgender woman and a YouTube singer and lyricist who is best known for her French covers of songs in the Evillious Chronicles.
  • Daya, best known for her 2016 smash "Sit Still, Look Pretty", came out as bisexual in October 2018.
  • Ani Difranco, American singer-songwriter, is bisexual and sings about LGBT issues in her songs.
  • Honey Dijon, American House musician and DJ, is a trans woman.
  • Beth Ditto, American singer and member of Gossip. Openly lesbian but has also been in relationships with trans men.
  • dodie, English singer-songwriter and YouTuber, is bisexual.
  • Doja Cat, American rapper, has stated that she is attracted to both men and women.
  • Dorian Electra, genderqueer (goes by they/them/their pronouns) singer, songwriter and performance artist with many, many songs which deconstruct gender, sexuality and homophobia.
  • Dreamcrusher, real name Luwayne Glass, is a black non-binary noise musician.
  • Billie Eilish, American singer, came out in 2023 by stating her attraction to men and women.
  • ElyOtto, Canadian Hyperpop musician, is a transgender male.
  • Cynthia Erivo, English singer-songwriter and actress, came out as bisexual in 2022.
  • Fletcher, American singer-songwriter, identifies as queer.
  • Fergie, American singer known for being part of The Black Eyed Peas and for her solo career, is bisexual.
  • Sawyer Fredericks, who competed in a 2015 season of The Voice and won, came out as bisexual in 2022.
  • G Flip, non-binary lesbian Australian musician. They are in a relationship with the above-mentioned Chrishell Strause.
  • Orla Gartland, Irish singer-songwriter and guitarist, came out as bisexual in 2021.
  • Teddy Geiger, singer known for the hit "For You I Will (Confidence)", came out as a trans woman in October 2017. She also came out as bisexual in 2021.
  • Boy George, a British singer, songwriter and fashion designer. Was the lead singer of 80s band, Culture Club and is well-known for his androgynous style. He first came out as bisexual; however, in his autobiography, he stated he was gay and had been in a relationship with the drummer for Culture Club in secret.
  • girl in red, aka Marie Ulven, is a Norwegian indie singer-songwriter who identifies as queer.
  • Jess Glynne, English singer who is bisexual.
  • Lesley Gore, American singer-songwriter best known for her songs "It's My Party", "You Don't Own Me" and "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows", was a lesbian.
  • Steve Grand, an openly gay indie country/pop artist who went viral with his song and video for "All American Boy".
  • John Grant, American musician and former member of The Czars, is gay.
  • Grimes, bisexual musician best known for "Flesh Without Blood" and "Oblivion".
  • Halsey, bisexual American alternative singer and LGBT activist known for her romantic songs about men and women. She also uses she/they pronouns.
  • Ai Haruna, a Japanese transgender singer and TV personality.
  • Sophie B. Hawkins, a singer-songwriter best known for her hit "I Wish I Was Your Lover", identified as omnisexual.
  • Darren Hayes, lead singer of Savage Garden, came out as gay shortly after the band parted ways.
  • Ty Herndon, American country music artist who came out as gay in a 2014 People interview.
  • Ally Hills, a lesbian indie-pop musician and YouTuber.
  • Hinchy, a member of SiIvaGunner known for the CG Rap, is a transgender woman.
  • Billie Holiday, a jazz singer who is best known for "Strange Fruit." Throughout her career, Holiday was openly bisexual and many of her female relationships were with stage and film actresses.
  • Holland, gay singer notable as one of very few openly LGBT K-pop stars.
  • Honey Dijon, a transgender female House Music DJ.
  • Whitney Houston, prolific African-American singer, actress, and producer. She was never out in her lifetime, but the 2018 documentary Whitney (approved by her family members and estate) described her as "sexually fluid" and she had a long-time romance with another woman, Robyn Crawford, who confirmed it in her 2019 memoir.
  • Dev Hynes is a Black British singer, songwriter and music producer. He has described himself as fluid and has also said he is "not gay, but not straight".
  • Ice Spice, American rapper known for her songs "Munch (Feeling U)" and "Bikini Bottom", is bisexual.
  • iLoveMakonnen, American rapper known for his hit "Tuesday", is gay.
  • Infurnopawz, openly gay composer, singer-songwriter, and part-time red cat.
  • Dana International, Israeli singer who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998, is a trans woman.
  • IOTA, Australian musician. Probably best known as the Doof Warrior in Mad Max: Fury Road. Openly gay.
  • Joe Jackson, British singer-songwriter most successful in the New Wave era, best known for "Is She Really Going Out With Him?", "It's Different for Girls", "Always Breaking Us in Two", and "Steppin' Out", came out as bisexual in 1999.
  • Felix Jaehn, German DJ best known for his remix of OMI’s "Cheerleader", came out as bisexual in 2018.
  • Joan Jett, American guitarist of The Runaways and founder of Blackheart Records. Has had relationships with both women and men.
  • Elton John, prolific gay English singer/songwriter of pop and soul who is also an LGBT activist and humanitarian.
  • Gerard Joling, gay Dutch singer who represented The Netherlands with "Shangri La" in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest.
  • Jónsi, gay Icelandic musician best known as the frontman of Sigur Rós.
  • Janis Joplin, American rock, soul, and blues singer-songwriter, one of the most successful and widely known musicians of the '60s. She was also bisexual, with many male and female lovers.
  • Katastrophe, a transgender male rapper.
  • Kaytranada, Haitian-Canadian DJ and rapper, came out as gay in 2016.
  • Kehlani, American R&B singer, songwriter and dancer. Previously came out as queer and pansexual in 2018, before coming out as a lesbian in 2021. Kehlani is also nonbinary and uses she/they pronouns.
  • Kelela, queer alternative R&B singer.
  • Kesha, pop singer, came out as bisexual in 2013.
  • Kid Moxie, real name Elena Charbila, a Greek-born synthpop musician and actress, is a lesbian.
  • King Princess, American pop musician, is genderqueer and gay. Much of her work is influenced by this.
  • Hayley Kiyoko, American singer, actress, and former Disney Channel personality, is openly lesbian.
  • Frankie Knuckles, American Chicagoan DJ known for developing and popularizing House Music, was gay.

  • Lady Gaga, bisexual pop artist, known for her outrageous stage persona and LGBT+ activism.
  • Ladyhawke, New Zealand indie pop singer-songwriter, is a lesbian.
  • Lady Sovereign, an English rapper. Came out as lesbian in 2010.
  • Duncan Laurence, Dutch singer-songwriter and winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Arcade", who identifies as bisexual
  • Adam Lambert, openly gay pop singer, musician and American Idol season 8 runner-up.
  • Mary Lambert, singer-songwriter best known for singing the chorus to Macklemore's "Same Love," is a lesbian.
  • k.d. lang, Canadian lesbian country and pop singer-songwriter.
  • Låpsley, English bisexual indie pop singer-songwriter.
  • LAU, real name Laura Fares, Argentina-born lesbian Synthwave singer-songwriter and producer.
  • Left at London, real name Nat Puff, is a non-binary trans lesbian singer-songwriter and online comedian.
  • Paul Lekakis, American singer and actor, is gay.
  • Liberace, singer and pianist known for his flamboyant personality. Never came out during his lifetime, but his life was later dramatized for the film Behind the Candelabra based on his male lover's memoirs.
  • Lights, Canadian singer-songwriter, came out as bisexual in 2017.
  • Maggie Lindemann, American singer-songwriter, came out as bisexual in 2019.
  • Lil Peep, rapper known for fusing Trap Music and Emo Music, was bisexual.
  • Bif Naked, bisexual Indo-Canadian singer-songwriter and actress.
  • Lil Nas X, rapper best known for his 2019 number one hit "Old Town Road", came out as gay in June 2019.
  • Little Richard, singer and muscian and known as one of the architects of rock and roll; Richard had a complicated (to say the least) relationship with his own sexuality, but it's generally accepted that he was into both women and men.
  • Livvy94 is a transgender woman who has contributed to the SiIvaGunner parody channel.
  • Demi Lovato, singer and actor, describes herself as sexually fluid and pansexual. They later came out as non-binary in 2021, using she/they pronouns. Later switched to using only "they"; re-added "she" in mid-2023.
  • Tove Lo, Swedish singer/songwriter. She stated in 2016 that she was openly bisexual and later on in 2017 claimed that she was lucky to live in a liberal country.
  • Mad Tsai, an indie pop singer/songwriter is openly bisexual.
  • Barry Manilow, singer/songwriter of disco and pop music. Came out as gay in 2017 after years of speculation.
  • Ricky Martin, Puerto Rican pop star known for being in Boy Band Menudo and his smash hit "Livin' la Vida Loca''. Came out as gay in 2010.
  • Melanie Martinez, a singer known for first appearing on the third season of The Voice, came out as bisexual in June 2018.
  • Johnny Mathis, American traditional pop singer who was outed as gay in 1982, eventually confirming it in 2017.
  • MC Chris, nerdcore rapper, voice actor, and comedian is bisexual.
  • Joe Mc Elderry, English singer who won the sixth season of The X Factor. Came out as gay in 2010.
  • Freddie Mercury, British Parsi lead singer of Queen, known for his flamboyant stage persona, was acknowledged as being bisexual.
  • George Michael, English Pop/R&B singer who broke out from his former group Wham!, was Forced Out of the Closet in 1998 and came out as gay.
  • Mika, a gay Lebanese-born British pop singer/songwriter.
  • MNEK, LGBT English singer/songwriter and producer.
  • Janelle Monáe, Black American singer, musician, acting performer and activist, came out as pansexual in 2018 and nonbinary in 2020.
  • Victoria Monét, Contemporary R&B singer is openly bisexual.
  • Morrissey, former frontman of The Smiths and now solo artist, considers himself as 'humasexual' (functionally pansexual).
  • Jason Mraz: Pop/alternative singer-songwriter who came out as bisexual in 2018.
  • MtH, transgender female member of SiIvaGunner who also has her own music.
  • Ava Max, known for her song "Sweet But Psycho" said that she was in relationships with both men and women and that the song was inspired by one of her girlfriends.
  • Tova Nadja, Swedish trans woman vaporwave artist primarily known as Stevia Sphere, but also goes by Glaciære, Tovatronica, Dreams On Diskette, 3次元Disco, Y2Kassette, etc.
  • Ataru Nakamura, a Japanese singer-songwriter and actress. She came out as a transgender woman on her official website on 11 September 2006.
  • Klaus Nomi, German singer and artist, was gay.
  • Laura Nyro, a bisexual American singer-songwriter.
  • Frank Ocean, Black American R&B singer/songwriter and member of OFWGKTA who came out on his debut album, singing about his unrequited love to another man.
  • Sinéad O'Connor, Irish singer and songwriter. She stated that she was a lesbian who had been dating men as she was uncomfortable being 'out' in 2000. In 2003, she stated in an interview that most of her relationships had been with men but she'd had relationships with women too.
  • Octo Octa, a House Music DJ, came out as a transgender female in 2016.
  • Pauline Oliveros, American composer and central figure of the development of experimental and electronic music, was openly lesbian.
  • Rita Ora, singer and actress, came out as bisexual in 2018.
  • John Ottman, composer and editor is gay.
  • Owen Pallett, a gay Baroque Pop artist.
  • Amanda Palmer, a bisexual American singer.
  • Peaches, a bisexual Canadian electroclash musician.
  • Orville Peck, a gay country musician.
  • Perfume Genius, an American Baroque Pop artist, is gay.
  • Katy Perry, American singer, stated that her sexuality is fluid and she had been in relationships with women before.
  • Linda Perry, lesbian singer-songwriter, initially lead singer for all-lesbian One-Hit Wonder rock group 4 Non Blondes (their only hit single being "What's Up"), later a pop songwriter for performers including P!nk ("Get the Party Started"), Gwen Stefani ("What You Waiting For") and Christina Aguilera ("Beautiful").
  • Kim Petras, a German singer and transgender woman.
  • Grace Petrie, British lesbian folk singer.
  • Planningtorock, a non-binary and genderqueer synthpop musician.
  • Cole Porter, an American composer and songwriter, was gay. Though he was married to socialite Linda Lee Thomas, it was mostly so that Porter could hide his homosexuality (though they did care about each other).
  • Billy Preston, Black American rock, R&B, soul, gospel musician and songwriter who most famously worked alongside The Beatles for their Let It Be album (frequently being dubbed "the Fifth Beatle"), publicly revealed he was gay shortly before his death in 2006.
  • Queen Latifah, rapper, singer, and actor has long been rumored to a lesbian (and she herself has alluded to this cheekily on occasion) and officially thanked her female partner onstage at the BET Awards in 2021.
  • Lena Raine, transgender video game composer best known for her work on Guild Wars 2, Minecraft, Celeste, Chicory: A Colorful Tale, and Moonglow Bay.
  • Ma Rainey, bisexual blues singer.
  • Malinda Kathleen Reese, an American Singer-Songwriter most famous for her comedy series, Twisted Translations. Came out as bisexual in late 2022.
  • Lou Reed, American singer-songwriter, known for his work as part of the pioneering rock band the The Velvet Underground and his solo career, was bisexual.
  • Jane Remover (formerly known as Dltzk), American digicore musician and pioneer of the "Dariacore" microgenre (a sample-based offshoot of hyperpop), is a trans woman.
  • Bebe Rexha, American-Albanian pop singer, has described her sexuality as fluid.
  • Rezz, Canadian DJ and EDM producer, has dated another woman.
  • Chappell Roan, American pop singer, is a lesbian, and her music contains many queer themes.
  • Samantha Ronson, English DJ and singer, is lesbian.
  • La Roux, real name Elly Jackson, came out as gay in 2020.

  • Emeli Sande, Scottish singer, revealed in 2022 that she was in a relationship with a woman after having previously been in a relationship with a man for over a decade. She has not used any labels.
  • Saucy Santana, openly gay rapper.
  • Rina Sawayama, Japanese-British Singer-Songwriter who identified as both bisexual and pansexual in 2018, though she later stated that she identifies as pansexual over bisexual.
  • Calum Scott, British singer and Britain's Got Talent finalist, is gay.
  • serpentwithfeet, moniker for African-American musician Josiah Wise, is gay.
  • Sia, Australian singer-songwriter, is queer. She describes herself as liking any gender.
  • Azuki Shibuya, Japanese DJ, Leader of D-Selections, former member of i★Ris and voice actress of Dorothy West and Pitsuji in PriPara note , revealed that she is pansexual in 2019.
  • Troye Sivan, gay South African-born Australian musician and actor.
  • Bessie Smith, bisexual jazz/blues singer.
  • Sam Smith, English R&B singer/songwriter who is gay and genderqueer.
  • Willow Smith, singer and actress who is the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and sister of Jaden Smith. Came out as bisexual in 2019.
  • Snow Tha Product, rapper and actress, is bisexual, and married to actress Julissa.
  • Soko, French singer-songwriter/actress/fashion model, is bisexual.
  • Stephen Sondheim, American composer and lyricist of numerous classic Broadway musicals, was gay.
  • Sonohara, American EDM producer, is a transgender woman.
  • SOPHIE, a Scottish trans female electronic music producer and musician.
  • Lucy Spraggan, an English singer who participated in The X Factor. Came out as lesbian when she was 14 years old.
  • Dusty Springfield, bisexual British soul singer who came out in a 1970 interview, although her sexuality was not widely publicly known until after her death.
  • Jessa Stebbins, Eurobeat artist known by the aliases Odyssey, Mortimer, Ken Blast, Eurobeat Brony, etc., came out as a trans woman in May 2021.
  • The Stupendium, London-based nerdcore musician, artist, and YouTuber, publicly came out as pansexual on May 24, 2021, and non-binary in 2022. They use they/them pronouns.
  • St. Vincent, American indie singer who has dated both men and women and is open to dating any gender but has refused to label herself.
  • Sufjan Stevens, American multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, dedicated his 2023 album Javelin to his late partner, Evans Richardson.
  • Moses Sumney, a Ghanian-American experimental musician who is aromantic.
  • Patricia Taxxon, an electronic composer and YouTuber who came out as a trans woman in 2019. She's also stated that she's bisexual but leans towards men.
  • Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, gay Russian composer of the Romantic era, considered by many to be one of the greatest composers in history.

  • Tanita Tikaram, British pop/folk singer-songwriter, is gay.
  • Yves Tumor, a non-binary gay musician known for experimental electronic music. Uses they/them and sometimes "it" as pronouns — live performances are sometimes credited as "Yves Tumor and its Band".
  • Hikaru Utada, Japanese-American singer-songwriter, came out as nonbinary in 2021.
  • Lil Uzi Vert, rapper and singer came out as non-binary in 2022.
  • Luther Vandross, influential soul singer throughout the '80s and '90s. Never came out as gay during his lifetime; his close friends Bruce Vilanch and Patti LaBelle confirmed that he was in the closet his entire life.
  • Vektroid, electronic musician and vaporwave pioneer, is a transgender woman.
  • Jack Vidgen, Australian singer and media personality, came out publicly as gay in 2019.
  • Pabllo Vittar, gay Brazilian drag queen and pop singer.
  • Vylet Pony, a transfemnote  nonbinary electronic musician; uses the neopronouns "pony" and "sea" in addition to "she/her", "they/them", and "it/its". Also identifies as pansexual, acespec, and sapphic.
  • Rufus Wainwright, gay American-Canadian singer-songwriter.
  • Trevor Whatevr, real name Tre Lyerly, describes himself as "some permutation of ace" and uses he/they pronouns.
  • Domo Wilson, bisexual singer/songwriter and rapper and is known for the song "Bisexual Anthem" and other songs that discuss LGBT issues, mental health, and motherhood.
  • Patrick Wolf, British singer-songwriter who has stated himself to be bisexual.
  • Chely Wright, American country music singer notable for being one of the very few who is openly a lesbian.
  • Xerokina, an X-gender singer.
  • Yeule, Singaporean singer-songwriter, is non-binary.
  • Kyounosuke Yoshitate, Japanese freelance singer and the voice provider of Nekomura Iroha, came out as a transgender man in 2020. He has since been very open about his struggles as a trans man living in Japan.
  • Will Young, an English singer and actor who won the first season of Pop Idol, the UK version of American Idol. He came out publicly as gay in 2002.
  • YUNGBLUD, English alt-rock and pop punk singer, identifies as pansexual.
  • Jake Zyrus, Filipino pop singer and actor known for his song "Pyramid" and playing Sunshine Corazon on Glee, came out as a lesbian in 2013, then as a transgender man in 2017.

    Bands 
  • 100 gecs: Laura Les is a transgender woman.
  • AAA: Japanese co-ed dance vocal group. Shinjiro Atae came out as gay in 2023.
  • Against Me!: Punk rock band led by trans woman Laura Jane Grace. Of particular note is their album Transgender Dysphoria Blues, which encapsulates the feeling of being transgender (specifically, a trans girl) and the problems that come with it.
  • Alustrium: Bassist Kevin Penny is gay.

  • BROCKHAMPTON: Founding member Kevin Abstract is gay, which he explores in his second solo album American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story.
  • Bronski Beat: 80’s English synth-pop group. All main members identified as gay.
  • Brothers Osborne: Lead singer T.J. Osborne came out as gay in 2021.
  • Buzzcocks: Frontman Pete Shelley was bisexual.
  • Cab Ride Home: Frontwoman Danica Roem is a panromantic trans woman.
  • The Cars: Ric Ocasek quietly came out as bisexual during a 1986 radio interview.
  • Car Seat Headrest: While frontman Will Toledo has not publicly specified an exact label, he has been candid about having same-sex relationships and attraction in both interviews and his lyrics.
  • Christian Death: Late founding singer Rozz Williams was somewhere along the LGBTQ+ spectrum (he referred to himself as gay, but made it apparent that it was inaccurate but convenient), but would have likely identified as genderqueer had the term existed at the time.
  • Climbing Poe Tree: A sociopolitical rap duo who've performed songs about loving women.
  • Cognitive: Bassist Tyler Capone-Vitale is openly bisexual.
  • Coil: Both of the band's core members, John Balance and Peter Christopherson, were openly gay.
  • Creeping Death: Vocalist Reese Alavi is genderfluid.
  • Cretin: Lead singer and guitarist Marissa Martinez is a transgender woman.
  • Culture Club: The aforementioned lead singer, Boy George, is openly gay. At the time of the band's popularity, he was in a secret relationship with the drummer, Jon Moss. A lot of the band's songs were written about this relationship.
  • Cynic: Frontman and guitarist Paul Masvidal and former drummer Sean Reinert are both gay.
  • Dead or Alive: Frontman Pete Burns was married to a woman and in a civil partnership with a man during his lifetime. However, he never identified as a specific sexuality, saying, "[People] always want to know — am I gay, bi, trans or what? I say, forget all that. There's got to be a completely different terminology and I'm not aware if it's been invented yet. I'm just Pete." Regarding gender, he identified as a man.
  • Deerhunter: Lead singer and guitarist Bradford Cox is asexual and non-binary.
  • Erasure: Andy Bell is openly gay and is an icon for the LGBT+ community.
  • Escuela Grind: Guitarist Krissy Morash is a trans woman, while vocalist Katerinha Skatoula is nonbinary.
  • Exhumed: Bass player and low vocalist Ross Sewage came out as genderfluid and bisexual in 2023.
  • Faith No More: Keyboardist Roddy Bottum is gay, and started a music project called Man on Man with his boyfriend Joey Holman. Also founded indie-pop band Imperial Teen, which counts the gay Will Schwartz among its members.

  • Four Non Blondes: Vocalist Linda Perry is lesbian.

  • Goldfrapp: Frontwoman Alison Goldfrapp began dating a woman, Lisa Gunning, in 2010, having only been romantically involved with men beforehand. She has refused to label her sexuality.

  • GTM: A Japanese band consisting of three transgender men and one X-gender person.
  • Halestorm: Lzzy Hale is bisexual.
  • Himitsu no Otome: A Japanese idol group consisting of transgender women.
  • Hole: Patty Schemel, drummer during the Live Through This and Celebrity Skin eras, is a lesbian.
  • Hüsker Dü: Frontman Bob Mould is gay, and drummer/vocalist Grant Hart was bisexual.
  • IDLES: Frontman Joe Talbot is bisexual.
  • Indigo Girls: Both members, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, are lesbians, with the former also identifying as genderqueer, and have been active advocates for LGBT rights.
  • Issues: Former lead singer Tyler Carter is bisexual.
  • Jack Off Jill: Lead singer Jessicka Addams is bisexual.
  • Japanese Breakfast: Frontwoman Michelle Zauner is bisexual.
  • Jethro Tull: Former member Dee Palmer is an intersex trans woman who transitioned in 1998.
  • Judas Priest: Lead singer Rob Halford famously came out as gay in 1998. Drummer Dave Holland also came out as bisexual while being prosecuted for attempting to rape a mentally disabled teenage boy.
  • Judicator: Main founder, former member, and current associate Alicia Cordisco is a trans woman.
  • Junior Senior: Lead vocalist Jeppe Laursen is openly gay.
  • Kajagoogoo: Christopher Hamill, who went solo as Limahl (of The NeverEnding Story (1984) theme tune fame), is gay.
  • King's X: Bassist Doug Pinnick is openly gay.
  • The Kinks: Guitarist Dave Davies is bisexual.
  • The Knife: Karin Dreijer, also known as Fever Ray in their solo career, is genderfluid and uses they/them pronouns.
  • Legião Urbana: Renato Russo identified himself as pansexual.
  • Life of Agony: Vocalist Mina Caputo is a trans woman.
  • Liturgy: Lead singer and guitarist Haela Hunt-Hendrix came out as a trans woman in 2020.
  • Lower Dens: Led by non-binary transmasculine Jana Hunter, the only constant member through the band's history. Hunter has also dated people of all genders, stating "I truly don’t give a fuck when it comes to the gender of the person I’m dating" but has not used a specific label for his sexuality.
  • The Magnetic Fields: Frontman Stephin Merritt is openly gay, and a number of his associates in the band are LGBT+ as well.
  • Måneskin: Bassist Victoria De Angelis is bisexual, and drummer Ethan Torchio is "sexually free".
  • Matmos: A married gay couple consisting of Drew Daniel and Martin "M.C." Schmidt.
  • Mindless Self Indulgence: Bassist Lyn-Z has admitted her first love was a woman. Lead singer Jimmy Urine has admitted that he finds some men attractive.
  • Muna: An indie pop trio where all three members identify as queer, with Naomi McPherson being non-binary.
  • My Bloody Valentine: Bassist Debbie Googe is lesbian.
  • *NSYNC: Lance Bass came out as gay, though after the group broke up.
  • Negative Øhio: A American-Norwegian duo consisting of two trans women.
  • Neon Trees: Lead singer Tyler Glenn is gay.
  • Neutral Milk Hotel: Member Julian Koster came out as "not straight" in a bonus episode of The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air).
  • New Kids on the Block: Member Jonathan Knight is gay.
  • Nina Sky: Nicole Albino is married to a woman.
  • OFWGKTA/Odd Future: Includes the aforementioned queer Frank Ocean and the band The Internet, which has the bisexual Steve Lacy and lesbian Syd the Kid as members.
  • of Montreal: Kevin Barnes is bisexual and genderqueer.
  • Outline In Color: Michael Skaggs is non-binary.
  • Panic! at the Disco: Frontman Brendon Urie is openly pansexual.
  • Pansy Division: Punk rock band and best-known example of the Queercore sub-genre.
  • Passion Pit: Lead singer Michael Angelakos is bisexual.
  • Pet Shop Boys: British pop duo featuring the openly gay Neil Tennant.
  • Pixies: Kim Deal is asexual.
  • Placebo: Stefan Olsdal is gay and Brian Molko is bisexual.
  • PVRIS: Lead singer Lynn Gunn is lesbian.
  • Queen: Frontman Freddie Mercury is acknowledged as bisexual.
  • Queen Bee: Lead vocalist and songwriter Avu-chan identifies as non-binary.
  • R.E.M.: Frontman Michael Stipe identifies as queer.
  • The Residents: Hardy Fox, a co-founding member of the band (and the only member to have publicly confirmed his identity), was gay.
  • Right Said Fred: Lead singer Richard Fairbrass is bisexual.
  • Rumpelstiltskin Grinder: Guitarist and founding member Melissa Moore is a trans woman.
  • The Runaways: Lead singer Cherie Currie and rhythm guitarist Joan Jett briefly dated each other and drummer Sandy West was a lesbian.
  • Sanguisugabogg: Founder and former guitarist and bandleader Cameron Boggs is openly nonbinary.
  • Scissor Sisters: An American pop/rock band full of LGBT individuals. Specifically, Jake Shears, Babydaddy and Del Marquis are gay, while Ana Matronic has been involved with both men and women but doesn't label herself. Only two members, Paddy Boom and Randy Real, do not publicly identify as LGBT.
  • Secret Guyz: A Japanese idol group consisting of transgender men.
  • See You Space Cowboy: Vocalist Connie Sgarbossa is a trans woman.
  • Semi Precious Weapons: Justin Tranter, former lead singer of the band and songwriter of numerous songs to various artists, is bisexual and nonbinary using "they/them" pronouns.
  • Sigur Rós: Frontman Jónsi is gay.
  • Simon & Garfunkel: Art Garfunkel came out as bisexual in his 2017 memoir What is it All But Luminous: Notes From An Underground Man, in which he described himself as a "lover of all beautiful asses, beautiful faces, beautiful bodies, boys and girls."
  • Siouxsie and the Banshees: Frontwoman Siouxsie Sioux is attracted to multiple genders but doesn't identify herself under a particular sexuality.
  • Six Pack Band: Consists of transgender Indian musicians.
  • Skunk Anansie: Lead singer Skin is openly bisexual.
  • Sleater-Kinney: Members Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker are both bisexual. Prior to 2010, Brownstein had incorrectly been labeled as gay by the media.
  • The Smiths: Frontman Morrissey identifies as "humasexual" (functionally pansexual).
  • Sofi Tukker: Sophie Hawley-Weld is Ambiguously Bi, saying that she's still figuring out what label to apply to herself.
  • Soft Cell: Frontman Marc Almond is gay.
  • Spice Girls: Member Melanie Brown has been in relationships with men and women but doesn't label herself.
  • Steam Powered Giraffe: Musical comedy project. One of the members, Isabella "Bunny" Bennett, is transgender.
  • Steps: Ian 'H' Watkins is openly gay after coming out in 2007.
  • Strawberry Prince: Rinu came out as a transgender man on Twitter in 2017.
  • Styx: Bassist Chuck Panozzo is gay and HIV-positive.
  • Sub-Radio: vocalist Adam Bradley and former bassist Barry Siford are bisexual.
  • Suede: Lead singer Brett Anderson has in the past identified as bisexual (although how seriously is disputed), and drummer Simon Gilbert is gay.
  • t.A.T.u.: While the duo was promoted as a lesbian couple, member Yulia Volkova is bisexual in real life.
  • Tegan & Sara: Identical twin musicians who are both lesbians.
  • Throbbing Gristle: In addition to the gay Peter Christopherson, also a member of the aforementioned Hipgnosis and Coil, the band's vocalist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge was non-binary, identifying as "pandrogynous" and using not only "they/them" pronouns, but also the neopronouns "s/he", "h/er", and "h/erself".
  • Le Tigre: Sadie Benning and their successor JD Samson are both non-binary, with the latter also identifying as a lesbian.
  • Tokio Hotel: Lead singer Bill Kaulitz has not labeled his sexuality, writing in 2014 "Maybe I'm just about to meet someone who changes my life forever and, if that happens, does it really matter what gender they are?" He has also stated that he was once in a polyamorous relationship with his male best friend and the latter's girlfriend.
  • Village People: Victor Willis was the only member of the original lineup who wasn't gay.
  • The Velvet Underground: Frontman Lou Reed was bisexual.
  • Venus Flytrap: Consists of transgender Thai musicians.
  • The Veronicas: Jessica Origliasso is sexually fluid.
  • Visage: Steve Strange, the band's frontman, was bisexual.
  • Wendy & Lisa: Musical duo made up of members of Prince's backing band the Revolution who acknowledged in 2009 that they had been in a lesbian relationship.
  • Westlife: Member Markus Feehily is gay.
  • The Who: Guitarist Pete Townshend is bisexual.
  • Xiu Xiu: Lead member Jamie Stewart is openly bisexual, and in 2023 came out as non-binary.
  • The xx: While some listeners have assumed that vocalists Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft are a Creator Couple, both are involved with same-sex partners, and in her case married.
  • Years and Years: Lead member (and eventually sole member) Olly Alexander is openly gay.
