Makonnen Kamali Sheran, professionally known as iLoveMakonnen (born April 12, 1989) is an American rapper and producer.

During his rough upbringing in Atlanta, Georgia, where he moved to after his parents and where he saw a close friend being shot and killed, Makonnen started making music in his bedroom, uploading it to Website/Myspace, and making connections in Atlanta's music scene. He started working with various producers creating songs and in July 2014, he released his first self-titled EP. The EP contained the song "Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday," which attracted superstar rapper Drake's attention. Drake would then collaborate with Makonnen on the remix of the track titled "Tuesday," which became a hit, making it all the way to number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and scoring a number 1 on the Billboard R&B chat and would led to Makonnen's breakthrough in the music world.

On January 20, 2017, Makonnen came out gay, making him one of the very first artists in the Hip-Hop genre to be openly queer.

Tropes

  • Affectionate Parody: The music video for the single "All My Shit Stupid" (featuring rapper Youngboy Never Broke Again) is animated in the style of Ed, Edd n Eddy
  • Drugs Are Good: Somewhat, "I DONT SELL MOLLY NO MORE" is about all different drugs except for ectasy which he doesn't sell anymore.
  • Genre Roulette: While primarily a Trap/Hip-Hop musician, his music draws influences and ranges from 80's pop, R&B, Soul, Glam Rap to even Pop Punk.
  • In Da Club: "Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday” and it’s remix are about this, as stated in the title.
