      • As Homer Simpson neglected to make the computers at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant Y2K compliant, the Y2K bug spreads out of control, causing worldwide destruction and the collapse of civilization. Lisa, Marge and Maggie Simpson are accepted onboard a rocket carrying humanity's best and brightest to Mars. Homer and Bart sneak aboard a second rocket, only to find it's filled with disliked C-list celebrites which is launched into the sun. Rather than put up with their annoying antics, Homer and Bart prefer to face their end in empty space.(The Simpsons)
      • Because of San Dimas Time, Will Smith returns from 2222 just barely in time to ring in the new year. A malfunction in the time machine gets him stuck in black and white. ("Will 2K" music video)

  • March 6: At 6:02am, the entire planet is shrouded in unnatural darkness. The darkness blocks out the sun, and neither the stars nor the moon are visible. Many believe it to be the end of the world. Governments blame each other, thinking it to be the effect of some secret weapon. Riots, rapes, beatings, and murders are commonplace. Emergency call centers are flooded with reports of monsters roaming the streets and skies. Numerous people simply disappear. It is also during this darkness that thousands of people learn that they have become inhuman monsters. Many of them are killed before they know what has happened to them. Some are killed by mobs of terrified humans, others take their own lives. Those that survive learn that they could return to their human forms. These shapechanging beings are called the Nightbane, for it was at night that they become monsters. (Nightbane)

  • March 28: Jay Cirri amends his will to give 44% of his estate to his children, and 12% to his new wife Sara Tarron. (Joe vs. Elan School)
  • April 4: Ben Song leaps into Summer Walsh, a personal assistant in Hollywood. His mission is to prevent the disapperance and death of Neal Russell, a famous actor. (Quantum Leap (2022))
  • April 9: In a possible future, Congressman Peter Ross of Kansas, the frontrunner for his party's presidential nomination, is the victim of an assassination attempt while making a speech in Calvin City, Pennsylvania. His campaign manager Clark Kent shields him with his own body, inadvertently revealing to the world that he is Superman. The critically injured Congressman Ross drops out of the race and asks Superman to take his place. Although he is initially reluctant, Superman agrees and goes on to be elected U.S. President.   • April 10: Mitchell Hundred makes his debut as the Great Machine. (Ex Machina)
  • April 27: Researchers from the secret installation in Greenland proceed to investigate an ancient Inuit tomb. more (Penumbra: Black Plague)
  • April:
    • The town of Grantville, West Virginia vanishes, replaced by empty German countryside. (1632)
    • Shizuo Heiwajima, Izaya Orihara, Shinra Kishitani, and Kyohei Kadota attend high school at Raijin Academy. Izaya gathers followers (made up mostly of traumatized teenage girls). He stirs up a conflict between the high schools in the area, and Shizuo gains some fame as he finds himself in the center of it. Shizuo and Izaya meet for the first time and instantly hate each other. (Durarara!!)
  • May 6: A human child enters the Monster World for the first time, creating mass panic in Monstropolis. (Monsters, Inc.)

    • Construction on the Millennium Gate begins. Shannon O'Donnel, ancestor of Kathryn Janeway, works to persuade locals to sell their property to allow the project to proceed, and along the way falls in love with stubborn bookshop owner Henry Janeway. (Star Trek: Voyager)
    • Greg Vizcaino is murdered in Philadelphia. (Cold Case)

  • Edward Roivas murdered by Pious Augustus. Augustus succeeds in bringing his Ancient into the world. Roivas' granddaughter, Alexandra, summons another Ancient to destroy it.   • Great Garbage Crisis in New York City. The city's excess garbage is put on a gigantic barge, which is then pushed out to circle the world's seas for the next 50 years. (Futurama)
  • The ancient monsters known as the Grongi break free from the seal placed upon them by the Rinto warrior Kuuga, and begin attacking Japan in order to unleash the "Ultimate Darkness". Yusuke Godai, a happy-go-lucky vagabond, dons a Rinto artifact during a Grongi attack, becoming the modern-day Kuuga and helping the Tokyo police battle the Grongi. (Kamen Rider Kuuga)
  • Garcian Smith successfully resurrects the fallen personae, but Dan mortally injures Harman in a fit of lunacy. Samatha leaves the syndicate and becomes a full-time carer to Harman. (killer7)
  • In her freshman year of high school, Ramona Flowers dates Lucas Lee. She cheats on him and then dumps him for Todd Ingram, who she will date for the rest of high school. (Scott Pilgrim)
  • SG-1 helps Thor destroy a huge number of Replicators. Meanwhile, Major Samantha Carter travels with Thor to the Asgard homeworld and helps fend off an attack by Replicator-infested ships. (Stargate SG-1)
  • Apophis attempts to forge a treaty with Heru'ur, but the Tok'ra and SG-1 sabotage the negotiations. However, Apophis had brought a cloaked fleet of motherships with him. He kills Heru'ur and absorbs his troops into his own fleet. (Stargate SG-1)
  • Robert "Dakota Bob" Shaefer is elected president of the United States, with Victor "Vic the Veep" Neuman as his vice-president. Susan Rayner, wife of Dakota Bob, is appointed director of the CIA. With their backing, 'Mother's Milk', 'The Frenchman', and 'The Female' are added to The Boys. Around this time, The Boys gradually become more aggressive and violent in dealing with superhumans.   • Julian West awakens from a deep sleep after 113 years to discover that the United States has become a socialist utopia. (Looking Backward)
  • An escaped prisoner and a necromantic Yakuza boss battle over the Forest of Resurrection. (Versus)
  • Two criminals named Boka and Vard travel back in time to Metropolis in 1959. Posing as agents of the Earth Bureau of Investigation, they convince the authorities in 1959 that Superman is a criminal from the future. They manage to subdue him using red kryptonite and return with him to 2000. Their plan is to take advantage of the fact that Earth's rivers have run dry by having Superman gather the water from two of Saturn's ice moons and sell the water to Earth for billions. In order to ensure Superman's cooperation, they threaten to destroy Metropolis in 1959 with an atomic bomb. However, Superman manages to defeat them before their plan can come to fruition.   • A comic strip featuring the Karkus, a fictional superhero, is published in the Hourly Telepress. (Doctor Who)
  • The prison transport vessel Sebrus, commanded by Warrick Finn, is launched from Hebridan. The ship is transporting three dangerous prisoners, Aden Corso, Lyle Pender and Tanis Reynard, to a prison colony. After becoming caught in an asteroid storm, the Sebrus is forced to land on PRX-005.   • Luciana Ortega joins ROSA. (Axiom's End)
  • Eric Husch's uncle Zeke dies in a boating accident. (S.)

  • The Boston Globe's investigative team uncovers a massive paedophilia cover-up by the Catholic Church. (Real Life and Spotlight)

    • Following a protracted election cycle including a lengthy recount in the state of Florida, George W. Bush becomes President of the United States. (Real Life)

    • Aliens dredge the Steel Duck out of the La Brea Tar Pits and attempt to take it over from Ralph Zinobopp. SEMME squad 128 intervene when they notice an undisguised Mayberry Melonpool at the Grammies. The Steel Duck is liberated from the Aliens and returned to the Zinoboppians, but unbeknownst to everybody, Joyce Brown is replaced with her morally-inverted duplicate. (Walkyverse, Melonpool)
    • Joyce Brown finds her way back to SEMME HQ, kills her duplicate. Justification(Walkyverse)

  • June 10:
    • U.S. President Al Franken resigns after only 144 days in office. He is succeeded by Vice President Joe Lieberman, who serves as President until 2019. (Why Not Me?)
  • June:
    • Shadow the Hedgehog released from cryogenic prison by Dr. Eggman, who attempts to bring about Professor Gerald Robotnik's last wish of vengeance against humanity. Has a change of heart and seemingly sacrifices himself fixing the problem. (Sonic Adventure 2)
    • Danny Wilcox and Joe Rosenthal graduate from Indiana University. Joe goes on to graduate school. Danny moves to Colorado to work as a computer programmer.(Walkyverse)
  • After June: On a night out, Joyce Brown, David Walkerton, and Sal Walters try beer for the first time. Secrets are drunkenly blurted out. (Walkyverse)
  • July 20: Minami Kaido is born in Yumegahama, Japan. (Go! Princess Pretty Cure)
  • July: Nicholas Angel gets a commendation for his actions during Operation Takedown. (Hot Fuzz)
  • September 4: Fertility doctor Juliet Burke leaves for the Island to save the pregnant women who keep dying there. (Lost)
  • September 5: Alana Mareva disappears. (The 4400)
  • September 10: Angelique de Xavia and Raymond Ash defeat a terrorist attack on a dam in Scotland. (A Big Boy Did It and Ran Away)
  • September 11:
    • Terrorist attacks from hijacked planes destroy the World Trade Center in New York City and heavily damage part of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. A fourth plane, United Flight 93, presumed to be headed for the White House is attempted control of by passengers but crashes in a field in Pennsylvania. A total of 2,996 people are killed and more than 6,000 others are injured. (Real Life)
    • Mitchell Hundred saves the south tower of the World Trade Center. (Ex Machina)
    • Black 13, sealed in a locker below the North Tower, is destroyed by falling wreckage. (The Dark Tower)
    • [Alternate Universe] planes hijacked by terrorists hit the Pentagon and the White House. (Fringe)
    • Gary Seven prevents Shaun Geoffrey Christopher from boarding one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center. (Star Trek: The Original Series short story "Assignment: One")
    • After their flight is grounded because of the attacks, an alcoholic flight attendant escorts a Pakistani-American child across the country to his destination. (The Space Between)
    • The victims of the attack include Doreen Fineman and her three daughters Jenny, Julie, and Gina (Reign Over Me), Claire Taylor (CSI: NY), Tyler Hawkins (Remember Me), Sarah Bohm (Touch (2012)), Thomas Schell (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close), Jonathan Dixon's college roommate Dave (A Million Little Things), and Reva (My Year of Rest and Relaxation).
    • Hundreds of planes are diverted from their original courses immediately after the attacks, and 38 of them land in the tiny Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland. (Real Life and Come from Away)
    • A bunch of chipper morning news shows and commercials air, but nothing particularly interesting happens after that. Maybe. (News at 11)
  • September 12: Harold Finch begins writing a computer program that can analyze data gained by surveillance, with the goal of identifying and stopping terrorist acts before they happen. Over the next three and a half months, Finch will discard forty-two versions of this program. Around this time, several other people, notably Arthur Claypool, begin writing similar programs.   • September 21: Vera Fry disappears. (The 4400)
  • September:
    • The Boys confront The Seven about what happened on 9/11. Confrontations escalate, with Greg Mallory's children and several CIA agents killed by The Seven. The sides reluctantly agree to a stalemate, and Mallory is permitted to murder Lamplighter to seal the deal. (The Boys)
    • Emma Nelson, Manny Santos, J.T. Yorke, Toby Isaacs and Liberty Van Zandt begin attending Degrassi Community School. (Degrassi: The Next Generation)
    • In a possible future, the crime boss Diogenes and his son Matthew manage to track down the retired Flash Wally West, who has been in Witness Protection for nine years under the name Michael Edwards. After recruiting several of the Flash's old enemies, Diogenes has Wally's young son David kidnapped. As Diogenes planned, this causes the Flash to come out of retirement. While he desperately searches for his son, Diogenes has his agents fire special guns at the Flash which have the cumulative effect of sapping his speed and aura. Diogenes' overall goal is to transfer this power to Matthew so that he can become a speedster. However, the process goes horribly wrong. Matthew is killed as his body can't handle the Flash's speed. Diogenes is so distraught that he immediately dies himself from the shock. Having enjoyed living a normal life for the last nine years, Wally has his stolen speed and aura transferred to his son David, who becomes a speedster. (Armageddon 2001)
    • Head Alien and Monkey Master locate the Martian embassy under the Bermuda Triangle.   • In a possible future, Batman defeats Ra's al Ghul's plot to wipe out humanity using a bio-engineered virus. Ra's is killed in the process. His daughter Talia attempts to resurrect him using the Lazarus Pit as she has done so many times before but she is unsuccessful. Batman manages to escape from her custody but his rope breaks and he falls, critically injuring himself. When Tim Drake and Alfred Pennyworth find him, they discover that his back is broken and almost all of his leg bones have been shattered. As Gotham has become a practically lawless nightmare city run by The Mafia, Tim Drake becomes the new Batman. After several weeks, however, he is captured and killed by Talia's agents, who believed him to the original Batman. Enraged by Tim's death, Bruce Wayne augments his body with cybernetic implants and comes out of retirement to track down his killer. He eventually discovers that it was Talia, who tells him that she was trying to kill him because of her father's death. After Talia's forces defeat Batman, she places him in the Lazarus Pit so that it can heal him and he can become the new Ra's Al-Ghul. Just before he dies, Batman activates a bomb that kills Talia and her men and destroys the Lazarus Pit. (Armageddon 2001)
  • In a possible future, Lois Lane is pregnant with Superman's child but but she dies of internal injuries when the child kicks for the first time. Superman is so distraught by his wife's death that he leaves Earth. After he is attacked by a Salier ship who mistake him for an Almeracian, Maxima rescues him and tends to his injuries. As she has long been in love with him, she attempts to woo him but she finds that she is continually in the shadow of the deceased Lois and Earth in general. Maxima hopes to marry Superman instead of the Krenon cyborg De'cine, whose people are negotiating a peace treaty with the Lords of Almerac. Maxima's slave Sazu suggests to De'cine that he destroy Earth in the hope that her mistress' chances of winning Superman's love will increase if his beloved adopted planet no longer exists. Superman and Maxima are eventually able to save Earth from De'cine's attack. (Armageddon 2001)
  • A member of the Tok'ra incites a rebellion on a planet ruled by the Goa'uld Qetesh, whose host is Vala Mal Doran. After defeating her Jaffa, the inhabitants of the planet capture Qetesh and torture her for days. Feeling responsible, the Tok'ra rescues Vala, removes the symbiote from her and nurses her back to health. After her recovery, Vala discovers the news of Qetesh's death has not reached the mining planet P8X-412 and sets herself up as its ruler by pretending to be their god Qetesh.
