Caricias' / Ironstroke's squad

     In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squad_8.png
"Honour, pain, and CUDDLES!!"

  • Cannon Fodder: What their higher-ups think about the whole squad, considering the possibility of their deaths as an acceptable outcome as They Have Reserves.
  • The Ditzes: Captain Hocicos mentions that they're the worst group of recruits he has seen in a long time and with good reason. Except for Coco and Azulín, the rest of Sergeant Caricias' recruits are either as threatening as a kitten, too delicate, or just altogether a liability more of a danger to themselves than anything else.
  • Dwindling Party: How their mission to Magical Forest goes. As far as the higher-ups were concerned, only Azulín managed to survive the expedition, but was left with horrible scars and mutilations.
  • Foil: Almost every member of the squad are meant to highlight or contrast with certain traits of Azulín or Gordi.
  • Training from Hell: The unit went through a harsh regimen in Love Camp under the tutelage of the unforgiving Sergeant Caricias before being deployed. However, it didn't help any of them improve at all, and, even worse for the unit, their poor performance is what convinced Colonel Otto that they'd be the perfect candidates to be dispatched in a suicide mission to Magical Forest.
  • Suicide Mission: An expedition deep into enemy territory to look for a platoon that's not reported back to H.Q. for days? That sounds like a perfect first mission for the newest squad that has just join your army a few weeks ago.

Voiced by: Jon Goiri (adult), Maribel Legarreta (child)
An emotionally unstable sociopath blue teddy bear, who aspires to become eternal and beautiful by fulfilling the prophecy.
  • All Take and No Give: While Gordi, despite Azulín's frequent bullying and abuse, is always loyal to and supportive of his brother, Azulín rarely shows affection for Gordi. In general, while Azulín fully expects everyone to shower him with love and praise so he can feel special, he is utterly unwilling to even compliment someone else.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Due to his father's advice of "always being the best" and him putting himself as an example of the opposite, Azulín holds his father in contempt as an example of a weak man, even though he's his father's favorite, being cold at best when talking with him. With his mother, he goes a step further by impulsively poisoning her due to feeling abandoned by her affair and preference for Gordi.
  • Aww Look They Really Do Love Each Other: Deconstructed. His and Gordi's love-hate relationship ultimately proves detrimental to both of them. Since neither brother is willing to actually work out their problems or cut ties, they end up in a co-dependent, toxic spiral that only drives them further apart.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's already prone to violence, but his bad temper worsens over the course of the movie.
  • Big Bad: Ends up as this. Not only is his bullying of Gordi pivotal to the plot and he is a major player in the war but he winds up the biggest threat to everyone's lives who ultimately gets the entire Magical Forest and all its inhabitants killed with his warmongering ways.
  • Big Bad Slippage: He does not start out as the main villain, but once all his superiors die on the battlefield and his higher-ups are assassinated on his orders, he becomes the main villain and remains that way for the last 10 minutes of the film.
  • Blind Shoulder Toss: After being promoted to lieutenant, he does this to a doll, a blue bear dressed as a superhero, that Mama had given to him as a child. This gift was meant to show Azulin how much she believed in him, despite his issues. Him tossing the doll aside is also meant to represent his growing apathy towards his mother and all that he initially stood for by that point.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Averted completely. Azulín might think he's the hero of his story in his own delusions but even outside of his genocidal crusade against the unicorns, he starts the movie as an arrogant, nasty piece of work towards other bears and only gets worse from there.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: When he's especially afraid, he wets himself. The first time this happens, he pretends it was Gordi.
  • Cain and Abel: He ends up culling Gordi with a rock, out of jealousy over Gordi's love for Maria.
  • The Chosen Wannabe: Once he reads the book and legend of the Magical Forest he winds up convinced that he is the one chosen to win the war for the teddy bears and grows more and more murderous over his delusions. He ends up dooming everyone because of it.
  • Cute and Psycho: His adorable appearance can switch from mere surface-level good looks to outright terrifying in a switch. Hell, the madness can still very visible through the layers of a seemingly innocent Held Gaze quickly transforming into a crazy Game Face.
  • Dark Secret: No one in the family knows he was responsible for dear mom's death. After all, he just brought her a glass of lemonade.
  • Death by Irony: After having killed Maria, Azulín has devoured her flesh in order to become immortal. Yet, he ends being eaten by a blob-like monster, that had merged from Maria's corpse.
  • Dirty Coward: Very aggressive against those weaker than him, but pitted against a stronger foe, Azulín will crumble into tears or bide his time for a cheap shot. The only way he ever gets the chance to murder Coco is when he was fatally injured and weakened from blood loss.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He has the nasty tendency to blow up at those who wronged him out of proportion.
    • While he has every right to be mad at his mother for cheating with another man, poisoning her in a fit of rage comes across as overkill.
    • He mauls Achuchones just because he called out Azulín's use of makeup to hide his "crow feet" and saggy eyelids.
    • He kills Coco and then eats his flesh for being his rival.
    • He kills his own brother in a fit of jealous rage for befriending a filly unicorn. In his defense, he was indoctrinated to think that Unicorns are evil.
  • Egocentrically Religious: During a moment of crisis after getting beat up by Coco, Azulín is counseled by the Father as he indoctrinates him on their religion by giving him a copy of the Sacred Book, which includes the prophecy of the "bear who drinks the last unicorn's blood" and how that "will make him a beautiful creature", a line of thought Azulín gladly subscribes to; unlike Father, it's shown Azulín does this mainly because he believes this validates his desire to be special, as surely the prophecy talks about him.
  • Enfante Terrible: As a cub, his anger at his mother for having an affair leads him to poison her on a whim, something he immediately regrets.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Despite his difficult (to put it in charitable terms) personality, Azulín was loved by his brother and both his parents. Shame he never appreciated it due to his covetous nature, as he ends up killing his mother and brother.
  • Evil Makes You Monstrous: At first, whenever Azulín does something reprehensible, his face always shows wrinkles in his face. As he commits more horrible actions such as cannibalizing Coco's body, his features contort into insane nightmare faces until his attack on a passing-by Maria causes him to have half of his face skinned, removing his most valued attribute and finally solidifying him as the True Final Boss.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: When Azulín brags about his good looks and strikes a pose, the entire squad stares and marvels at him, Gordi included.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: His looks and well-kept appearance in a society as concerned with looks as the teddy bears contrast with his twisted, resentful, insane personality.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • His jealousy of someone receiving affection over himself drives his character for the entire film. Taken to its logical extreme when he murders his own brother for even showing concern for someone else that isn’t him.
    • His impulsivity and lack of self-restraint is closely tied to his jealousy. As much as he'd claim otherwise, most of his problems come from a lack of thought put into his actions and how little he can care at the moment of the possible consequences. This leads to the destruction of both the bear and unicorn societies, his relationships and ultimately his death.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why he is so cruel it’s because his mother had an affair with another man and was planning to divorce without taking into account how it would affect her children, and his father giving him the ill-meaning advice to always strive to be the best and never be mediocre if he wanted to gain everyone’s love and respect.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: However, it’s immediately pointed out that even right after his birth, he was already jealous of Gordi for being seemingly favored by his mother, suggesting that he was already a rotten apple from the very beginning. If anything, his Freudian Excuse and what came next only exacerbate his sociopathic personality.
  • Glory Hound: He goes to such extreme lengths just so that he can be "the best", even going as far as killing his main source of competition, Coco.
  • A God Am I: Azulin's primary motive throughout the majority of the movie is to obtain godhood, as set by a rewritten prophecy.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Azulin holds a grudge towards Coco, just because he is better than him in so many ways, and became a role-model towards the army over him. This eventually snowballs into him mercilessly killing him.
  • Hero Killer: Azulín not only murders platoon leader Coco after he's badly injured, he also murders his own brother Gordi who was the last possible bastion for peace after a fit of jealousy.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It's perhaps not accurate to say that Azulín has a short fuse. His fuse is microscopic, with even the most harmless slights causing him to fly into a violent rage and try to physically assault the offender.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: A recurring pattern through all of Azulín's life is his own venomous personality causing for the people in his life to suffer, as well as hinder his goal of improving himself, since he refuses to fully accept responsibility for the damage caused by his actions and keeps doubling down on making the same mistakes.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Azulín picks on Gordi constantly while they're at boot camp. But once their squad gets deployed and Pandi complains about Gordi being assigned to them, Azulín angrily snaps at Pandi not to talk like that about his brother.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: After killing Coco, he feasts on one of his legs.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: For all of his bluster, it becomes quite clear Azulín's confidence is shaky, evaporating completely the moment someone else bests him (such as Coco showing himself as a better fit for platoon leader or Gordi coming on top after fighting him), as he lacks genuine belief in his self-worth. The only way he can truly guarantee his validation as the "better man" is to crush others.
  • It's All About Me: Azulín cares about nothing except fulfilling his demented ambitions and rising above everyone and even whatever guilt he feels about his treatment of his family is drowned out by his refusal to back down from his downwards spiral into evil and his cruelty. By the end he gets both bears and unicorns completely wiped out due to his demented desire to kill the unicorns and even destroys the very forest the bears wanted to rule over.
  • Jerkass: Azulín is, to resume, an asshole of the highest order. He's antagonistic to the other recruits, reacts violently when someone calls him out (even if the complaint has some validity), and gladly bullies his brother Gordi despite the latter's care for him. However, as the film progresses, he gradually reveals himself to be capable of much worse.
  • Karmic Death: After killing both Gordi and Maria, he gets devoured by the blob-like entity from the beginning of the movie.
  • Love Hungry: Azulín desires love more than anything, but he's incredibly possessive of such emotion, coveting it without any reciprocity for anyone. Of course, should anyone receive love other than him, he'll fly into murderous hysterics.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: After being recovered by the army, he's given a mask to cover up his facial scars and make him into a propaganda figure. This restarts his downward spiral and eventually causes him to go fully off the deep-end, murdering the commanding officers and setting a plan in motion to burn down the Magical Forest.
  • Mask of Sanity: A tenuous one, as in his most stable moments, he's in a concentrated, foul mood which can quickly evolve into full maniacal rage the minute people criticize him or best him on something.
  • Matricide: As a child, he poisoned his mother in a fit of anger, after he found out she was cheating on his and Gordi's father. This caused her to develop lasting health problems and eventually killed her.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Lamentably he gets to murder Gordi and finishes off the helpless Maria, both being the last hopes for peace, then he consumes the unicorn's flesh... And the entity from the beginning of the movie appears and devours him while it takes on a humanoid form to presumably wreak havoc across the world, rendering his entire mission and carnage pointless.
  • Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds: He never intended to wipe out all lifeforms of the forest and the forest itself but his demented delusional desire to be the hero of his story and the chosen one ends up completely condemning everyone's lives and presumably the entire world by the end.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Has this moment after poisoning his mother.
  • Never My Fault: Does this to Gordi after he kills Coco. When Gordi demands that Azulin treat him with respect, and accuses him of attempting to kill him too, Bluey gets defensive over this, claiming that he killed Coco for the sake of both of them. Azulin gets espescially mad when Gordi tells him that their mother always suspected there was something wrong with him, which is followed by Azulin accusing Gordi of being an "manipulator".
  • Offing the Annoyance: Azulin had no reason or gain for killing Coco other than just because he held a grudge towards him.
  • Proud Beauty: Azulín is extremely proud of his cute looks and not shy about showing them off either. Especially since they're yet another thing that makes him superior to Gordi. His descent into madness begins as the fight with Maria leaves him disfigured.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: At his core, Azulín is this: much of his issues come from a long-held belief that he was never given the special treatment he deserved by his parents (his mother in particular), his brother and bear society at large. Furthermore, his conception of "greatness" has never been one achieved through the power of community or being helped and helping others, but rather the idea of being better than everyone else, which is why the "chosen one" prophecy appeals to him so much. In other words, he might as well be king of the mountain above anyone else, much like a spoiled child.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: After seeing his facial scars in the mirror, he slams his face against it, terrified by how horribly he had been mutilated from his encounters with the unicorns.
  • Red Right Hand: After being thrown off a cliff by Laura, he gets a massive scar covering half of his face, with one of his eyes missing and his entire mouth torn off. This marks the point of the movie where Bluey truely becomes evil.
  • Redemption Rejection: Just when it seems that Bluey regrets all that he had done, embracing his brother when they reunite, he kills him by smashing his head in with a rock when he tries to help Maria, stabs Maria to death, and drinks her blood.
  • Sanity Slippage: Azulín becomes more and more unstable over the course of the movie, due to a mixture of his own anger issues, inferiority complex and desperate desire to be special.
  • The Starscream: Betrays the commanding officers and has them all executed once he rises in power, all so he can execute a much deadlier plan than they had.
  • Symbolic Mutilation: The two things Azulín values most about himself are his physical prowess and his good looks. After his tumble over the cliff's edge, he ends up with half his face horrendously scarred and missing a hand, robbing him of both.
  • Thin-Skinned Bully: Ready to break others' spirits to bask on his superiority, but anything that shows him he's no better will make him run off in tears, throwing a tantrum.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: When Gordi, despite everything he's done by that point, shares his food with Azulín in the Magical Forest (after Azulín pitifully begged him for help), Azulín mocks Gordi for still loving him despite his anger and makes a cruel joke about Gordi being a bed-wetter.
  • Villain Protagonist: A contemptible jerkass turned psychopathic, murderous war maniac in teddy bear form and the main character of the movie.
  • Wasted Beauty: Compared to his brother Gordi, Azulín outwardly represnts the epitome of Bear society: cuddly, adorable and well-groomed. However, outside his family, most of the bears who've met him find themselves disgusted or fearful over how such a cute bear like him could have such a terrible personality. It doesn't take long for the rest of the platoon to see him as The Friend Nobody Likes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He murders the unicorn foal Maria in cold blood, after previously culling Gordi, then drinks her blood to become eternal.

    Gordi

Gordi / Tubby

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gordipic.png
Click here to see his flashback appearance

Voiced by: Jaione Insausti
The overweight kind-hearted brother of Azulín, whose docile nature has turned him into a constant target of Azulín's gaslighting.
  • Aww Look They Really Do Love Each Other: Deconstructed. While him and Azulín do care about each other in a twisted, co-dependent and unhealthy way, they're also not willing to actually talk about the problems festering between them. Even when they do temporarily grow closer in the Magical Forest, it's not enough to break Azulín out of his toxic habits and ends with them separated and on opposite sides of the war.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Gordi was born a few minutes before Azulín and, as seen in flashbacks, he's always tried to appeal to Azulín's best senses to comfort him or get him to back down. Not that it has done much good, as he's also tried too many times a soft approach which has rarely worked on curbing his brother's actions. During his stay in the Magical Forest, he forms a healthier sibling-like relationship with Maria.
  • Big Fun: He's one of the few genuinely nice characters in the film.
  • Cain and Abel: Azulín bashes his head in with a rock, after Gordi seemingly shows more concern for an injured Maria than for him.
  • Deuteragonist: While Azulín is the protagonist in the laxest terms possible, Gordí's journey and actions impact the story just as much as him.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: Gordi is the older brother and the one who protects Azulín the most, but his low self-esteem, different body type and passive response toward his brother's putdowns have never made him seem like much of a powerful figure, much less a role model for someone like Azulín.
  • The Eeyore: Despite being an All-Loving Hero later on, Gordi's demeanor at first is shown to be depressed acceptance of his situation. Living in the barracks of the Bear Army only reinforces how seemingly unfit he is at any combat or endurance during training, often begging to simply go home. The fact he's not classically cuddly like the other recruits due to his chubby body only makes him more susceptible to feeling down, as it is a reminder Gordi used to look better. As such, Gordi sports an unhappy mug for most of his time there.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Even before he abandoned the Love Camp, Gordi showed unconditional love and kindness to everyone he met, including the animals in the Magical Forest. Despite only being given a small portion of blueberry pie from his father, he still gives pieces of it to the various wildlife. He also decided to aid Maria, a unicorn, when she was injured by Azulin, despite everything he was told about them.
  • Grew a Spine: After Azulín and him become the sole survivors of their squad, Gordi finally starts to stand up to Azulín more and stops taking his verbal and physical abuse lying down. Too bad it ends up getting him killed when he refuses to prioritize his insane abusive brother over Maria.
  • Irony: The entire squad bemoans the fact that Gordi will come with them on the rescue mission to the Magical Forest, seeing him as The Load who will only slow them down. Not only does Gordi prove to have the stamina to keep up with the group, but he ends up outliving the rest of the soldiers along with his brother, with his skills making him adapt faster to life in the forest.
  • Little "No": After his brother murders Coco by stabbing him in the chest, Gordi spouts a Rapid-Fire "No!" as he tries to stop the hemorrhage, only to fail and utter a simple, small "no" as he looks up, disbelieving his sibling's cruelty.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: He was once one of Colonel Otto's soldiers, who were sent out to find the Lone Owl Squad and kill any unicorns they spot. Despite this, he still shows compassion to most of the wildlife and eventually aids a unicorn himself.
  • Momma's Boy: Out of the two brothers, Gordi was always the one closest to their mother, always helping her cook and in the garden. While not as explored as Azulín's side, her loss negatively impacted him as his father preferred Azulín, leaving him at his younger brother's mercy.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Much of the film's climax likely wouldn't have happened had Gordi just left Azulin to die in the forest after he killed Coco in cold blood, and not obsess over protecting him so much despite his toxic relationship with him. Him trying to reciprocate with Bluey when they meet up again in the ending also proves to be his downfall, as when he tries to help Maria, a betrayed Bluey smashes him in the head with a rock, killing him, followed by him killing Maria and drinking her blood, dooming the world as the god of the Simians is finally resurrected.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: In the years he spent in the Magical Forest, he managed to befriend Maria the unicorn foal and survive almost entirely on his own.
  • The Promise: Gordi promised his mother on her deathbed that he would look out for Azulín and he's kept that promise well into adulthood. Unfortunately, Gordi's doting on Azulín despite his deplorable treatment of him has only enabled his brother's worst traits, something Gordi glumly seems to be aware of.
  • Protectorate: After they build a trusting rapport during his stay in the Magical Forest, Gordi becomes very protective of the unicorn filly Maria, caring for her as she heals from her wounds. As such, when she hears the Bear Army approaching and runs off to join her comrades in fighting them, Gordi follows suit bring her back to safety.
  • The Quisling: During the war caused by Bluey, he is on the side of the unicorns, wanting to protect Maria.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has pink fur and is by far the kindest of the bears, always showing concern for and taking care of others, even if they won't thank him for it and/or are utterly undeserving of his kindness. He's also the only one to make peace with a unicorn, Maria.
  • Token Good Teammate: While the others in his squad aren't necessarily evil, Gordi stands out as the most sensitive and caring. He's also the first and only one of the bears to make peace with a unicorn.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After the rest of their squad is wiped out, Gordi does a far better job of adjusting to living in the forest than Azulín and becomes a lot more independent and assertive as a result. To the point he actually calls Azulín out for the latter's crimes and physically fights back against him.
  • Weight Woe: The first ever scene we see with him has him unhappily checking his half-naked body out in a mirror.

    Padre

Padre / Father

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elpadre.png

Voiced by: Txema Regalado
A purple teddy bear that serves as the priest for Love Camp, and later joins Caricias' squad in their expedition to Magical Forest.
  • Affably Evil: While he does indoctrinate the teddy bears in Love Camp into viewing the unicorns as savage killers, he shows himself to be a genuinely patient and forgiving figure among his kind.
  • Badass Preacher: Not afraid to stand up for his beliefs and culture, comfort soldiers, and puts nasty drill sergeants in their place.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He blows himself up with a grenade to cover Gordi, Azulín and Coco's retreat.
  • Large Ham: Mostly during his "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Sergeant Caricias.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a chilling one to Caricias, after Caricias' dismissal of his objections to the squad eating the forest's bugs causes the death of the Mimosin twins.
  • No Name Given: We never get to learn his actual name in the film, since everyone just addresses him as "padre", which is the Spanish word for "father".
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: He's against consuming the myriapods the group finds in Magical Forest, because the holy book of his religion forbids it (although his holy book also recognizes it as drug first). While this is rightfully called out as a rather flimsy reason not to take advantage of what resources they have, Padre ends up being right that the myriapods were no good when the hallucinogens within them cause the entire squad to trip out and one of the Mimosín Twins kill the other after a particularly violent hallucination.
  • Sinister Minister: Subverted, surprisingly. While he does indoctrinate young teddy bears into a religion that instills a violent hatred for unicorns in them and him gifting Azulín the holybook leads to the former to become a fanatic, at the end of the day he's just a priest preaching what he sincerely believes is the word of God. He even sacrifices himself to save the squad's survivors after an unicorn ambush.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Him telling Azulín about The Chosen One and gifting him the holybook causes Azulín to become obsessed with the idea of being the chosen one the book speaks of and becomes a major factor in his Sanity Slippage and the complete annihilation of the entire forest, the teddy bears, unicorns and the whole world implicitly.

    Sargento Caricias

Sargento Caricias / Drill Sergeant Ironstrokes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cariciasmean.png

Voiced by: Manu Heras
The mean-spirited drill instructor of Love Camp, and later leader of the expedition to search and rescue Lone Owl Squad.
  • Break the Haughty: At first, gets overwhelmed with guilt after discovering the Murder-Suicide of the Mimosin twins indirectly caused by his decisions as squad leader, but becomes a total blubbering mess the second he finds what remains of Lone Owl squad torn to pieces.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Just when his squad finally reached the location of Lone Owl campment, only discover that they were all dead and that their corpses have been rotting there for days, meaning their whole ordeal through Magical Forest (and the death of the Mimosin twins) had been for nothing, what was left of Caricias' crumbling sanity finally cracks and he break into tears in front of his soldiers while mumbling they were all going to die.
  • Dirty Coward: Attempts to flee the scene when the unicorns start retaliating and avenging the death of Carmen. He is unsuccessful.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He acts like a harsh and unforgiving general... up until the Mimosin twins are indirectly killed by his poor decision-making, when he finally drops the act.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Despite the magical setting, and God clearly existing in this world, Caricias is, at least at first, the only bear in the squad to be skepitcal of the religious teachings of the Teddy Bear society, noticeably having a dejected look during the Father's sermon, rejecting a necklace he offers symbolizing their God, and outright rejecting the religion entirely when they come across a group of centipedes. This seems to change following the deaths of the Cuddly-Wuddy Twins.
  • Foil: To Azulin, particularly of his anger and religious beliefs. Much like Azulin, he has a rather short temper, can act homicidal when pushed to his limit, and tries to put on a facade of toughness, despite actually being a coward. The key difference between the two however, is their respective relationships with the Father and his teachings, with one viewing him as a source of inspiration, and the other viewing him as a hinderance. Similar to Azulin, however, he's more on board with the religious teachings following a point of despair, though it is more out of pleas for forgiveness rather than out of fulfilling a sense of purpose.
  • Miles Gloriosus: Acts tough and manly when drilling his soldiers and ordering them around but turns out to be cowardly and prone to panic when put in actual battle (and in the presence of Coronel Otto).

    Coco

Coco

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cocomovie.png

Voiced by: Gaizka Soria
The only competent recruit in Sergeant Caricias' squad.
  • The Ace: He's by far the most capable soldier in the squad, with even the Drill Sergeant Nasty Caricias having nothing but praise for him. He slowly but surely becomes a Broken Ace as he's subjected to the horrors of war.
  • Big Good: In a movie where evil seemingly triumphs over good, and where anyone can die, he is perhaps the closest the movie has to one, taking the most action out of all of the characters, right down to being the first to even question the purpose of the war, no doubt paving the way for Gordi 's eventual abandonment of the army.
  • Break the Cutie: He experiences the same horrific events as his teammates while maintaining the peace between Sergeant Caricias and Father; later on, he fully assumes his role of unoffical co-leader after Caricias loses his nerve. Quickly enough, Coco exchanges his confident glance for a restrained misery all over his face.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Once Caricias loses his composure, Coco has to step in alongside the Father to guide the team to the place where the Lone Owl squad was supposedly located, all while trying to maintain morale after the Murder-Suicide of the Mimosin twins. To top it all, his endurance tests come from seeing the squad they've sent to rescue massacred and then having to amputate Achuchones' leg after it becomes infected.
  • Good Counterpart: Coco is the spitting image of everything that Azulín wants to be by his father's command of being the best, being the most capable and heroic soldier, and fitting the ideals of a "chosen one" far more closely. Also unlike Azulín, he cares for his commrades, and shows himself to be quite brave and selfless, and is often one to end disputes rather than start them.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has yellow fur and is one of the more heroic members of the squad. Back in bootcamp, he immediately interfered when he saw Azulín brutalize Achuchones and only got violent himself when Azulín wouldn't let it go.
  • Hero Antagonist: While he is one of the more heroic characters in the cast, he is still the main adversary of Azulin, the protagonist of the story. To a lesser extent, he also serves as one to Gordi, who swore to protect his brother. Gordi tries to protect Azulin when he is assaulted by Coco.
  • The Leader: He takes charge of the squad after Sergeant Caricias breaks down. He doesn't get to enjoy the position for long. Almost the entire squad is wiped out in an unicorn ambush shortly after he becomes leader and he ends up heavily injured in the process, then gets murdered by Azulín when his injuries slow the survivors down.
  • Meaningful Name: Coco's name appears to be based on the Spanish term "Coco", which refers to a type of Boogeyman, and is often used as an expression of disdain. This reflects how he is a major source of ire for Azulin due to having what he doesn't, opening up some of his past scars when Coco's victory over him upsets Azulin.
  • Obliviously Evil: Like his superiors, he wants all of the unicorns eliminated, even being the one responsible for Carmen's death. Despite this, he does not consider his actions to be evil. He went about this goal with the intent of helping his community, whose culture conditioned him to view the unicorns as savages, rather than out of his own personal gain.
  • The Rival: To Azulín, though it's doubtful Coco was ever aware that Azulín saw him that way. Their clashes in boot camp were largely Azulín attacking him, after Coco knocked him down a few pegs.
  • Sacrificial Lion: His death at the hands of Azulín proves to be the beginning of the blue bear's descent into outright villainy.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Some scenes show Coco smoking a cigarette, typically after a victory, highlighting his role as The Hero.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Left behind a pregnant lover, but we never see the cub.

    Achuchones

Achuchones / Snuggles

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/achuchonespic.png
Voiced by: Iker Diaz
A frivolous teal teddy bear, prone to be on the receiving end of many misfortunes.
  • Agony of the Feet: He gets his foot bitten by a venomous lizard during the squad's first rest and spends the rest of his screentime limping in agony. We get a look at the infection again later on and it's *not* pretty.
  • Ambiguously Gay: When Achuchones thinks Gordi was watching him urinate, he accuses him of being a peeping tom. Shortly afterwards when Gordi takes care of Achuchones' infected foot, Achuchones offers to show Gordi his penis, to which Gordi reacts with horror. Achuchones seems strangely hurt by it, even calling after Gordi when he runs away.
  • The Chew Toy: While no one in this movie is safe from pain, the universe really seems to have it out for him, specifically. He gets beaten up by Azulín, has his foot bitten by a venomous lizard, gets rejected by Gordi, has said bitten foot amputated by Coco, and gets stabbed to death by an unicorn.
  • Foil: To Azulín, particularly of his egotism. Much like Azulín, he is obsessed with his own looks and can be a bit of an asshole to others. He is also the first to call Azulín out on his egotism, pointing out how he uses make-up to hide his wrinkles. What Achuchones has in looks, however, he lacks in the physical endurance Azulin has, being the Chew Toy of the film. Also, unlike Azulín, he warms up to Gordi more easily, especially after the latter tries to treat his foot.
  • Forgiving the Accidental Pervert: Offers to let Gordi see his penis after accusing him of trying to peep at him moments before.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: While most male teddy bears are obsessed with keeping appearances and acting cutesy, Achuchones is a cut above his peers as he speaks with a very effeminate voice, has very flamboyant mannerisms, and seems to be more helpless and weaker in general than other recruits (except for the Mimosin Twins). His wimpy behavior is what leads him to take off one of his boots during the first rest the squad gets in Magical Forest, telling Gordi he can't bear wearing them and claiming that those kinds of footwear weren't made for his delicate feet, which ends with terrible consequences.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He's not wrong about Azulín not being physically perfect, but that doesn't prevent an enraged Azulín from mauling him.
  • Prone to Tears: Cries the most out of anyone else in the movie. Justified since he's the one that suffers the most from all the platoon.

    Pandi

Pandi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pandi_2.png

Voiced by: Estívaliz Lizárraga
A Panda teddy bear utterly unfit for military service.
  • Comically Inept Healing: Attempts along with Blackie to treat Achuchones' infected foot by singing him a lullaby.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Joins in Sergeant Caricias' Despair Speech and cries when it seems all hopes to come back alive from the mission are gone and the troop will share a similar fate as whatever the hell happened to Lone Owl Squad.
  • My Favorite Scarf: What he brags about to his bunkmates when they were on the barracks admiring their bodies, saying his garment was so silky like the skin of a baby unicorn.
  • Foil: To Gordi, particularly of his ineptitude as a soldier. Unlike Gordi, however, who at the very least has the heart that more than makes up for it, Pandi shows himself to be nothing more than a rude unsympathetic individual that thinks his own comrade would only hold them back, ignoring the fact that hardly nobody in the group (including him) is qualified for such a risky mission into enemy territory.
  • Jerkass: Complains when Gordi is deployed with the rest of the squad, saying no one wants him to come and that he'd just hinder them.
  • Rainbow Puke: How his body reacts shortly after ingesting the hallucinogenic meat of the Magical Forest's myriapods before he falls unconscious.

    Blackie

Blackie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackie.png

Voiced by: Pedro Arrieta
A big brown teddy bear that despite his huge appearance is as weak and incompetent as the rest of the squad.
  • The Big Guy: Is the tallest and appears to be physically strongest in Sergeant Caricias' squad. However, it is shown in multiple scenes during his Training from Hell to have little to no stamina.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: When describing himself during the barrack scene. In his own words, he may look strong and imposing, but he's just as fluffy and sensitive on the inside as any other teddy bear.
  • Comically Inept Healing: Attempts along with Pandi to treat Achuchones' infected foot by singing him a lullaby.
  • Goomba Stomp: The undignified way an unicorn avenging Carmen's deah kills him. Mind you that he was supposed to be the strongest in his squad.
  • Foil: To Azulin and Gordi, particularly of their respective physical strengths. Despite being the strongest of the squad, he is just as incompetent as the rest of the soldiers, lacking Azulín's endurance and mirroring Gordi's lack thereof. Azulín and Gordi also both manage to survive the expedition despite being weaker than him.

    Sonrisas

Sonrisas / Smiley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonrisas.png

Voiced by: Alberto Vázquez
An orange teddy bear that can't stop grinning from ear to ear.
  • Fan Disservice: During a brief scene in the barracks, the viewer gets to see more of Sonrisas than one would wish for.
  • Foil: To Gordi, particularly of his gloominess and him being a Perpetual Frowner. Sonrisas, despite very clearly being afraid of everything going on, keeps up a wide grin on his face. This greatly contrasts from Gordi, whose face never lies during their venture through the Magical Forest. Sonrisas also appears to take dumb chances in spite of his obvious anxiety, eventually leading to his own death when he leaps towards Carmen to finish her off.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Always has a wide grin on his face, even when he's very obviously not happy. It stays on even when a unicorn had stabbed him to death.
  • In a Single Bound: Pulls a very impressive jump when trying to finish an unicorn before she stabs him to death.
  • Stepford Smiler: Possibly, his grin stays on even when he gets stabbed to death by an unicorn.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Could have finished the limping unicorn from a safe distance with his bow and arrows like Coco later did, but chooses to do a In a Single Bound leap straight to her horn.
  • The Un-Smile: His grin can get really creepy in some scenes, just look at the picture above.

    Gemelos Mimosín

Gemelos Mimosín / The Cuddly-Wuddly Twins

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mimosintwins.png

Voiced by: Rosa María Romay
An adorable pair of puny polar teddy bear twins who seem love each other a bit too much.
  • The Dividual: Their personality and looks are identical, making it really difficult to tell one apart from other. Even their squadmates only refer to them as a pair.
  • Foil: To Gordi and Azulín, particularly of their dynamics as siblings. Their off-putting, co-dependent affection contrasts Gordi and Azulín’s co-dependent, love-hate dynamic. Likewise, one dies by the other’s hand, and the murderer takes his own life, foreshadowing Gordi and Azulín’s ultimate fate.
  • Fan Disservice: What is really necessary for the viewer to have a close shot of one of the Mimosin twins' bare rear?
  • No Name Given: Downplayed. They're both collectively called the Mimosín/Cuddly-Wuddly twins, which suggests that that's their last name. They're never addressed individually, so we never find out what their given names are.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The untimely deaths of the Mimosín twins set a grim mood among the squad for the rest of the expedition, as they now realize the tinniest mistake can snowball into catastrophic results.
  • Pathetically Weak: In comparison to other recruits, they're the smallest and likely weakest soldiers in Love Camp. During their archery lessons, the twins are shown to be consistently missing all their shoots, can't handle the recoil of their own reckless charges against dummies, and can't even practice parry against each other without clumsily tripping over their own feet. One may wonder why the Mimosin twins were even accepted in the teddy bear army at all.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: What one cries out to the other, when the hallucinogens cause him to wander off into the forest.
  • Twincest: Their very first scene has them call each other beautiful, then share a kiss and wrestle playfully... all while they were wearing nothing more than their underwears. Although, this could be potentially subverted if teddy bear culture is taken into account, which values being overly coyly and aesthetically pleasing over anything else, as so their fraternal affection could be just the viewer culturally misinterpreting what's a normal way to show love among teddy bears.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They barely get a chance to be characterized beyond their somewhat creepy co-dependent relationship and then they are the first to die in the Magical Forest. One when the other stabs him to death after hallucinating him as a giant myriapod, and the other when he realizes what he's done and hangs himself in despair.
  • Single-Minded Twins: Basically, they are the same character copy-pasted.

Other Bear Military

Leadership

    Coronel Otto

Coronel Otto/Colonel Otto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/otto_22.png

Voiced by: Kepa Cueto
The oppressive leader of the Teddy Bear army, who had sought out to have all of the unicorns wiped out.
  • Ambitious, but Lazy: He wishes to rule the Magical Forest by having the unicorns killed. How does he do this? He and his associates lay back while his soldiers do all of the work. This is even mentioned by Grimaldo, who complains about how they are resting in their "golden cages".
  • Bad Boss: To his own recruits. The conditions of Love Camp are atrocious, with mutual friendships being discouraged, his soldiers being injured constantly from the harsh training, and being fed disgusting porridge on a regular basis. When one of them gets badly injured in a gunpower explosion, he chaulks this up as "collateral damage". To top it all off, when his newest recruits prove themselves to be utterly unfit for the military, he sends them out on a dangerous mission anyway, chaulking any and all deaths he might have caused by doing this as "collateral damage", as well.
  • Big Bad: Otto is largely responsible for many of the bad things that happen in the movie, being the cruel leader of the army. He subjects his recruits to the hellish conditions of his camp, and sends his weakest recruits out on dangerous missions, believing that said recruits are not worthy enough to keep around. When he promotes Azulín to lieutenant, this triggers the film's climax, with Azulín now taking his place as Big Bad.
  • The Chessmaster: He knows how to make the most out of his cause, regardless of how mediocre his soldiers are. He promotes Azulín, the last remaining soldier, to lieutenant, just so that he can promote it even more.
  • The Corrupter: Arguably this to the entire Teddy Bear army, seeing how his ultimate goal is to condition them into scorning the unicorns. This especially applies to Azulín. Otto pushes him into the nasty piece of work he is by the end of the film, promoting him to lieutenant with the intent of creating an "idol with clay feet" out of him.
  • Dark Is Evil: Unlike all of the other teddy bears, who are brightly colored, Otto has gray fur, and wears a dark gray uniform. He is also a highly cruel and oppresive leader.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Otto appears to find the concept of love entirely useless, with even the motto of his camp referring to "cuddles" as a form of "tough love", i.e. abuse endured by the soldiers to become tools for his ends. He also believes that the concept of heroism is merely something to exploit others with, and that one must have hatred to defeat the enemy. However, this philosphy would prove to be his downfall when the soldiers have a leader that can at least repsect them in some capacity in the form of Azulin, leading to the former overthrowing him. Gordi also disproves this philosophy when he befriends Maria, a unicorn.
  • Evil Counterpart: To both Azulin and Gordi, being the antithesis of everything they each stand for. He underestimates the inspiration that comes from "heroes" like Azulin, and believes that love could never defeat the enemy, disproven when Gordi befriends a unicorn.
  • Evil Overlord: He is the leader of the army, and presumably the ruler of the Teddy Bear Village in general.
  • Evil Old Folks: Otto appears to be pretty old, having a noticeably wrinkled face. Azulín also deems him as being too senile to rule.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Otto's voice, provided by Kepa Cueto, sounds noticeably deep.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Otto has noticeably sharp teeth, which is seen in some of the scenes where he yells at Bluey.
  • Fantastic Racism: Otto views unicorns as inferior beings, and believes that one cannot defeat them unless they hold some sort of scorn towards them.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Around his recruits, he gives off the appearance of an honorable, well-spoken leader that'd "never abandon" his troops. In reality, he's an authoritative, ruthless, and selfish ruler who wants to cleanse the Magical Forest of the "curse" the unicorns had set on it, and treats his own soldiers as disposable tools to reach that end.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Promoting Azulín to a lieutenant gets him the figurehead he so much wanted to further exert his power and that of his colleagues, then Azulín gets the idea of truly being the one in charge and Otto gets killed by his coup.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Otto metaphorically stares into the abyss as he looks deeply into Azulin's missing eye, only to see the mounted head of a unicorn that he had presumably killed, reflecting how he is no different from the monsters that his army were supposedly fighting for all of the pain and gruesome deaths he caused. Instead of reflecting on this, however, Otto just shouts at Azulin for questioning his authority, solidfying him as irredeemable.
  • Karmic Death: Otto and his collegues are killed by his own soldiers, led by Azulín, which he intended to turn into the figurehead of his army.
  • Kick the Dog: He sends his latest recruits out into the Magical Forest BECAUSE they're incompetent, believing that they won't be much of a loss to his army.
  • Lack of Empathy: When Otto sees one of his own soldiers get badly injured from mishandling gunpowder, his response to this is simply call it "collateral damage".
  • Meaningful Appearance: Otto's senile appearance, combined with how Azulin's wrinkles become more visible as he does evil things, is meant to foreshadow what Azulin would soon become, but far worse.
  • Meaningful Name: Otto's name, which is German in origin, is meant to allude to him being based on figures such as Adolf Hitler.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: Otto is meant to be an expy of genocidal dictators from history such as Adolf Hitler, being a dictator-like figure that leads the invasion of the Magical Forest to cleanse it of all unicorns, and preaches a prophecy of a supreme race chosen by God. He even does the Hitler salute on the poster of the film.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He comes to believe that Azulín had lost his mind when he declares that he wants to burn down the Magical Forest. His reasoning for this, however, is that without the Magical Forest, there wouldn't be a reason for war, and thus no way for the leaders to maintain power.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Has one when Azulín questions his experience with the Magical Forest. Colonel Otto is quite clearly offended at this, as he shouts at him, and he and his collegues are about to attack him before Azulín's coup supporters come in to kill them all.
  • We Have Reserves: Otto appears to rely on this tactic regularly, throwing his weakest recruits into dangerous missions without any concern for their safety, or if they even make it back alive.
  • Xanatos Gambit: His reasoning for sending out his newest recruits into the Magical Forest. If they all die and/or disappear, then it actually benefits the army by getting rid of his most worthless soldiers. If any of them survive, he simply promotes them, and uses them as a means of further promoting his cause, giving his soldiers the idea that they can be "heroes" too.

    Comandante Fluffy

Comandante Fluffy / Commander Fluffy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fluffy_1.png

Voiced by: Juan Carlos Loriz
Colonel Otto's second-in-command
  • Co-Dragons: Commander Fluffy is Otto's second-in-command and one of his right-hands (alongside Captain Hocicos).
  • Fat Bastard: He is on the heavier side and is one of the leaders of the Love Camp, who are set out to kill all of the unicorns.
  • Greek Chorus: He, along with Hocicos, has few lines of dialogue, and primarily serves to explain and/or question Otto's actions.
  • It's Cuban: Fluffy is almost always seen with a Cuban cigar, indicating his wealth alongside the other leaders.
  • Lack of Empathy: Though arguably not as cold a response as that of his superior, Colonel Otto, his response to seeing one of Otto's soldiers being injured from mishandling gunpowder is just berating them from afar, commenting on his incompetence.
  • Too Important to Walk: In one of his appearances, he is being pulled in a rickshaw by Corporal Pom Pom, highlighting how the camp leaders treat their soldiers, including the high-ranking ones, like slaves.

    Capitán Hocicos

Capitán Hocicos / Captain Snouts

Voiced by: Eduardo Gorriño
Colonel Otto's third-in-command
  • Co-Dragons: Captain Hocicos servers as Colonel Otto's third-in-command and one of his right-hands (alongside Commander Fluffy).
  • Greek Chorus: He, along with Commander Fluffy, has few lines of dialogue, and primarily serves to explain and/or question Otto's actions.
  • Lean and Mean: To contrast with Commander Fluffy's Fat Bastard, he has a quite slim body shape compared to other bears, and is one of the leaders of the Love Camp, who are set out to kill all of the unicorns.
  • Secretary of Evil: He appears to be the one in charge of the logistics of Colonel Otto's army, having told the sergeant about their mission to find Lone Owl Squad and the path they'd need to take to accomplish this.

A fluffy recruit that patrols the borders and later joins Azulín's Coup d'état

    Grimaldo

Grimaldo / Grim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grimaldpic2.png

Voiced by: Alberto Escobal
A recruit with a nasty scar that patrols the borders and later joins Azulín's Coup d'état
  • Spark of the Rebellion: Even before he joined Azulin's coup, he very clearly didn't like the authoritarian nature of the Love Camp, so it is no shock that he'd be one of the main sources of inspiration for the other soldiers when Azulin sets up said coup.

    Pompón

Cabo Pompón / Corporal Pompón

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pompon.png

Voiced by: Josu Varela
A corporal that personally serves the higher-ups, but had no qualms to betray them and join Azulin's Coup d'etat as his right arm.
  • The Dragon: Becomes this to Azulin in the climax, commanding the teddy bear troops in a final clash against the unicorns.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: Gets one after being involved in Azulín's coup to kill Colonel Otto and his officers.

    Cocinero

Cocinero / The Cook

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cook_3.png

Voiced by: Álvaro Sánchez
The Love Camp's chef.
  • Lethal Chef: As far as one can tell, he's a phenomenonally bad cook, as even so much as smelling his porridge makes one gag, though judging by his expression as he's serving it, he's not ashamed of this one bit.

Civilians

    Mamá (unmarked spoilers)

Mama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/motherpic.png

Voiced by: Pilar Ferrero
The doting mother of Azulín and Gordi, who was having an affair at the back of her husband.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Zig-zagged. In the flashbacks we see of her, she's shown to be a very loving mother to both of her sons, if a bit moreso toward Gordi. However, she also cheated on her husband frequently and didn't seem too torn up about how their coming divorce would affect her sons. All in all, she was neither perfect nor abusive; just a flawed person trying her best.
  • Good Parents: Despite her infidelity, she loves both of the sons she had with her husband dearly.
  • Her Name Really Is Barkeep: She's a mother called Mama. Even her tombstone inscription only has the name Mama written on it.
  • Jacob Marley Apparel: In one of Azulín's hallucinations, which occurs following him fighting with Gordi, he spots his mother's hat, the very same one that she wore the day he poisoned her. Upon following it, Azulín winds up in his childhood bedroom, where he witnesses himself poisoning her.
  • Missing Mom: She died when Gordi and Azulín were children. It's revealed later in the movie that Azulín poisoned her out of anger over her cheating on their father.
  • Parental Favoritism: Downplayed, in that while she loved both of her sons, she very clearly preferred Gordi over Azulín, even believing that there was something wrong with the latter.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite only appearing in several flashbacks, Mama plays a significant role in many of the movie's events, being the primary reason why Azulin and Gordi turned out the way they did. Much of Azulín's need to be the best came from his father when she cheated on him with another man, and Gordi's kind-hearted personality, as well as his need to protect his brother, also came from her, having vowed to protect him by her request.
  • Walking Spoiler: Seeing how she's essentially why most of the movie happens, it would be difficult to talk about her without spoiling its plot to some extent.

    Papa

Papa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/padre_1.png

Voiced by: Manu Heras
The depressed father of Azulín and Gordi.
  • Emasculated Cuckold: Blames himself for his wife cheating on him by being mediocre and warns Azulín not to meet the same fate as him.
  • Parental Favoritism: Toward his son, Azulín, at the expenses of his other son, Gordi. This proves to be detrimental to the personal growth of both teddy bears, as Azulin's already spoiled personality gets to be further indulged into his own toxic and selfish mentality whilst Gordi experiences the opposite as he's neglected and treated poorly by his father.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He told Azulín never to be mediocre or everyone else would inevitably leave him behind, which led Azulín to become obsessed with being special and largely contributed to his Sanity Slippage.

    Rafael

Rafael / Raphael

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raphael_13.png

Voiced by: Ramón Barea
The teddy bear with whom Mama was having a secret affair.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His affair with Mama is what indirectly set Azulín toward a path of horrible decisions, and also what caused the events that left Gordi as an insecure mess, subservient to his brother's wishes.

    Coco's Wife

Coco's Wife

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cocowife.png

Voiced by: Estívaliz Lizárraga
The unnamed pregnant wife of Coco
  • Rewatch Bonus: Her inclusion in the movie was meant to highlight just how messed up Azulin killing Coco, and by extension Otto's whole "collateral damage" scheme, was in hindsight. Coco died horrifically before he ever got the chance to see his child.

Unicorns

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unicorngroup.png

  • Always Chaotic Evil: Subverted. They are built up by the teddy bears as monstruous wicked creatures that hate teddy bears out of jealousy and can't be reasoned with. Yet, as the film goes, we get to learn it's not quite the truth and it's actually the teddy bears who are the viler of the two sides.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Unicorns are shadowy-looking equines with intimidating designs yet are not evil. They even come across as much less cruel than the teddy bears are throughout the movie.
  • Druids: As they're in communion with Magical Forest, they can understand and talk with other species and critters of the forest, who also are as sapient and sentient as them.
  • Forest Ranger: What they basically are. Threaten Magical Forest's landscape and the Unicorns will either make sure you'll no longer be able to cause any more harm to nature ever again, or you'll get expelled from their sacred lands forever.
  • Green Thumb: They can restore dead and decaying parts of Magical Forest back to life.
  • Hero Antagonist: From the teddy bears' point of view, the unicorns are the cause of all evil. As the film progresses however, it becomes more and more apparent that the unicorns are merely trying to protect Magical Forest from destruction.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Their preferred method when dealing with pesky racist teddy bears that dare to stick their noses into their territory.
  • One-Gender Race: From the unicorns' names the viewers gets to know, all unicorns seem to be female. This is later confirmed to be the case for the whole species as stated by Word of God.

    María

María

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maria_80.png

Voiced by: Itxaso Quintana
A young unicorn filly in search of her missing mother.
  • Death of a Child: Like pretty much the entire cast, she dies at the end of the movie. Azulín stabs her to death after murdering Gordi in front of her, then eats her flesh to become The Chosen One.
  • Hero Antagonist: Serves as one of the biggest ones to Azulin, thanks in part to how his attempts in killing her cost him his beauty and physical prowess. Gordi attempting to help her in the ending is also what triggers him to kill his own brother.
  • Little Miss Badass: She's only a foal, yet she's just as ferocious a fighter as her older unicorn sisters. She readily demonstrates this when she participates in the final battle of the holy war.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother is missing for the first half of the movie, then when she finally shows up, gets killed by Caricias' platoon around the midpoint.

Simians

    In General

Simians

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apes_2.png

One of the many species that resides in Magical Forest, and have recently become fixated on worshipping an ominous creature.

  • Maniac Monkeys: Though not directly aggressive to the unicorns or teddy bears, they are sinister, vaguely intelligent and, in the words of the own unicorns, unwilling to defend Magical Forest and only focused on the corrupt creature in the church.
  • One-Gender Race: They all appear to be male, as their genitals are visible in some shots.
  • Religion of Evil: They protect the black church in the forest and worship the Blob Monster on the altar.

    God (unmarked spoilers)

God

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blob_5.png

A formless abomination that inhabits the church in the forest.

  • Blob Monster: Starts as one, forming from the dead body of Maria before eating both Gordi and Azulín.
  • Dark Messiah: The teddy bears' prophecy of becoming beautiful and turning into their god, by devouring the blood of the last unicorn. Upon emerging, the Apes start following and worshipping this god.
  • God Is Evil: Despite being the movie's version of God, it is depicted as being an Eldritch Horror that'll consume and destroy anything in its path.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The prophecy told amongst the teddy bears, and thus their motivation for killing the unicorns, surround the mysterious God-like figure of the Simians.
  • Hades Shaded: Like the apes and unicorns, he has charcoal black skin and glowing white eyes.
  • Humanoid Abomination: After consuming the brothers, it turns into a black skinned naked man with glowing white eyes, completely expressionless.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Has overtones of this, as it was created by a war, genocide, fratricide and cannibalism.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is impossible to talk about this thing without giving away the twist of the entire movie.
