These characters are not same people who appear in their main games.
  • Adapted Out: Forget about seeing them in the manga adaptation anytime soon.
  • Alternate Universe: The returning Tales characters take elements of their backstories from their home titles, but fit it into the world of Crestoria. For example, Luke fon Fabre from Abyss is still a noble, but his hometown is Medagal and not Kimlasca, while Cress Albane is a sword master who took over a dojo after its original master disappeared, and has been teaching Kanata on the side. Later, he runs into Mint Adenade, his canon Love Interest, and has to be introduced to her.
  • Five-Man Band: Cress's party currently consists of Cress (The Leader), Mint (The Heart), Emil (The Lancer), Ratatosk (The Big Guy) and Marta (The Smart Girl).
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: Lloyd's party consist of two men (Lloyd and Genis) and two women(Colette and Arche).
  • Two Girls and a Guy: Natalia's party consist of two women (Natalia and Chloe) and one guy (Guy).
  • We Help the Helpless: All of Cress' party, especially Emil and Marta, who tried (and failed) to make ends meet as traveling mercenaries before meeting Cress.

Cress' Party

    Cress

Cress Albane

Original Series: Tales of Phantasia
Voiced by: Takeshi Kusao

Kanata's sword master who took over the local dojo of Dalchia following the disappearance of its original master, Mibaru. After Kanata and Misella leave with Vicious, he also embarks on his own journey with Emil, Marta and Mint to locate a mysterious organization that has been gathering up humans and monsters to conduct unethical experiments on them.

  • Badass Normal: While the rest of his party use healing magic and powers gained in a Freak Lab Accident, Cress is just really good with a sword.
  • Badass Teacher: To Kanata.
  • The Leader: As of the current story update, he is this to the party that formed in his side-story.
  • Revenge: His primary motivation is avenging the death of his swordmaster, Mibaru. Averted when the villagers of Dalchia kill Mibaru in his monster form, since Cress doesn't seek revenge on them and instead simply admonishes them for trying to evade responsibility for killing him.

    Mint

Mint Adenade

Original Series: Tales of Phantasia
Voiced by: Junko Iwao

A traveling healer who came to Dalchia to help the orphans after the local shelter burned down, but instead got tied up in the mystery around Mibaru's disappearance.

  • The Ingenue: The fact that she is the only character who doesn't immediately fear and/or attack Mibaru because of his monstrous appearance says a lot about her purity of heart.
  • The Heart: In Cress' party, though she occasionally shares the role with Marta.
  • The Medic: As in her home game, she specializes in Healing Artes and has only very limited combat capabilities.
  • Shipper on Deck: Seems to be really enthusiastic about the idea of a Emil/Marta/Ratatosk-threesome, which horrifies the later two of said trio.
Ratatosk & Marta: "What's wrong with you!?"

    Emil

Emil Castagnier

Original Series: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Voiced by: Hiro Shimono

A timid boy who was kidnapped by Human Traffickers years ago, eventually escaped, and has been searching for the perpetrators ever since. Initially accompanied on his journey by his best friend Marta, they are soon joined by Cress and Mint.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Not only is this version of Emil significantly more self-confident than his original counterpart, but that he is also Marta's childhood friend and a real human.
  • All-Loving Hero: His defining trait is that he cares about everyone, even the violent, demonic entity living in his head that he can't actually talk to. According to the Japanese version, Emil actually cares more about helping Ratatosk become a corporeal being than about reclaiming his own life.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: He cannot remember anything that happens while Ratatosk is in control of his body, meaning the two of them have never properly met despite Sharing a Body. That said, whenever Emil is the active personality he seems to be capable of sensing Ratatosk's emotions.
  • Glass Cannon: His attack is on the higher end for an SR, while having one of the lower defenses as well. His fighting style is all offensive focused as well, including his Awakened skill increase damage for dark type allies after twenty hits. His health is above average though, so he can take some hits, just not a lot.
  • The Lancer: To Cress, though the slot is shared with Ratatosk.
  • Muscle Angst: Unlike his Dawn counterpart, he dislikes having to rely on Ratatosk's power to protect himself and is currently training to become a decent swordsman in his own right.
  • Oblivious to Love: Marta claims he is this, but it's more likely that he just ignores her advances on purpose, similarly to his prime counterpart.
  • Psycho Prototype: After the organization experimented on him (though, the "psycho" part is mostly restricted to Ratatosk.)
  • Samaritan Syndrome: He'd rather starve than take money for helping people who actually need it.
  • Shrinking Violet: Not nearly to the same extent as his Dawn of the New World counterpart, but the trait is still present

    Ratatosk

Ratatosk

Original Series: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Voiced by: Hiro Shimono

An alternate personality living within Emil's psyche, created after the latter was injected with the essence of countless monsters by an organization that kidnapped Emil years ago. Unlike Emil, he is brash, short-tempered and often callous. However, despite this, he still cares deeply about his companions' well-being, even if he refuses to admit it.

    Marta

Marta Lualdi

Original Series: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya

Emil's spirited childhood friend with healing abilities and a strong sense of justice. She also harbors a (possibly unrequited) crush on Emil, which she isn't shy about voicing.

Nocheet

    Reid

Reid Hershel

Original Series: Tales of Eternia
Voiced by: Akira Ishida

A traveler who meets Kanata, Misella and Vicious during their escape from Dalchia. He first appear as ally in Lure of the Forest Fruit.

  • Only Sane Man: He's one of the few members of Nocheet who is willing to look past the party's Transgressor status and help them.

    Farah

Farah Oersted

Original Series: Tales of Eternia
Voiced by: Yuko Minaguchi

A childhood friend of Reid. She first appear as ally in Lure of the Forest Fruit.

  • Combat Medic: One of her skills is a healing arte, and her Awakened buff heals the party a bit at the start of each wave. She also has high attack and her other arte hits five times.
  • It's All My Fault: In Farah's side story, when she was a child she reported a boy for bullying her on a vision orb. As a result, her bully was branded with the Stain of Guilt and executed by the Enforcers. She feels guilty about what she did and the bully's mother blames her for killing her son.
  • Vigilante Woman: As the "Racheans Avenger", though her goal is explicitly to bring evildoers to justice without getting them killed.

Velvet's Party

    Velvet

Velvet Crowe

Original Series: Tales of Berseria
Voiced by: Rina Sato

A mysterious wanderer with a demonic-looking right arm traveling with Milla.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In Berseria, Velvet and her young brother Laphi are raised by their brother-in-law until he sacrifices Laphi and cuts off Velvet's left arm. In Crestoria, Velvet raises her brother alone in a small rural village. One day, when she and Laphi go to the mountains to pick up vegetables for dinner, they encounter Milla in the middle of a fight against an incarnation. The incarnation throws Milla off-guard and grabs Velvet's brother. Velvet feels helpless when she watches her brother and the incarnation get obliterated by Milla.
  • Adaptation Species Change: In Berseria, Velvet became a Therion Daemon as a result of her hand being cut off. In Crestoria, its implied that Velvet is human, but that her Red Right Hand is actually a Incarnation that was able to graft onto her.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She, alongside Milla, appear and save Kanata as a powerful monster attacks him during his hunt to capture Gordon.
  • It's Personal: Velvet travels with Milla because she wants to kill her for killing her younger brother. She won't kill Milla until all incarnations are destroyed.
  • Red Right Hand: Just like in Berseria, she had a demonic hand instead of a normal hand. Unlike Berseria though, here it is because of some sort of past event with Milla, and is implied to be an Incarnation of Sin.

    Milla

Milla Maxwell

Original Series: Tales of Xillia
Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro

Velvet's traveling companion.

  • Big Damn Heroes: She, alongside Velvet, appear and save him as a powerful monster attacks Kanata during his hunt to capture Gordon.
  • Glass Cannon: Downplayed. Milla has a low HP stat for her rarity but one of the highest attack stats at the same time, but she has roughly average defense as well. This leans her closer to a Jack of All Stats overall, but it does mean she can't take as much punishment as some other characters.
  • Must Make Amends: For an unknown reason, her reasons for traveling with Velvet are linked to some manner of mistake she made in the past towards Velvet. Its implied at the start of Velvet's side story and in the main story that Milla had a hand in the death of her brother Laphicet and Velvet gaining her arm.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Milla has no problem killing Velvet's younger brother, who was held captive by an incarnation. The work implies she did this because he was beyond saving.

Kio Village

    Laphicet

Laphicet

Original Series: Tales of Berseria
Voiced by: Azumi Asakura

Adoptive brother of Presea and Alicia Combatir.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Laphicet in Berseria was a Empty Shell upon first being introduced, and developed a sense of self through interacting with Velvet and the others. Here, he already has a defined personality and is more upbeat and cheerful at the start of the game.
  • I Will Find You: At the end of Velvet's side story, Laphicet promises Velvet that once he gets stronger to protect himself, he will find her and join her on her journey.
  • Non-Action Guy: Unlike his Berseria counterpart, Laphicet hasn't learned any magic to protect himself from monsters, Velvet has to save him many times during her side story.

    Presea

Presea Combatir

Original Series: Tales of Symphonia
Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima

Older sister of Alicia and Laphicet's adoptive older sister.

  • Big Sister Instinct: Presea cares for and loves her younger sister deeply. She is willing to cut off one of her arms with the Strain of Guilt before the Enforcers find her. She is one of the few people who doesn't show any hostility towards Alicia after she commits a crime.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Her appearance in Velvet's Side Story follows these, as she tries to handle her sister's transformation into a Incarnation of Sin.
    • Denial: She refuses to believe her sister is gone after her sin devours her completely, and she thinks Alicia is still alive.
    • Anger: After Velvet kills Alicia, she wants revenge on Velvet and tries to kill her. She knows that if she commits a crime, she will turn into a transgressor like her sister and be executed by the Enforcers but doesn't care at that point.
    • Acceptance: After she reads Alicia's letter, she finally gets over her sister's death and starts her journey of recovering from her depression.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Presea thinks cutting off her sister's arm will spare her from being killed by the Enforcer, but she is the reason for Alica's incarnation of Sin manifesting and devouring her.
  • Older Than They Look: In Symphonia, Presea stops aging from experiments performed on her, but in Crestoria, her growth stopped because she drank an unknown medicine from a healer to make her body stronger and healthy.

    Alicia

Alicia Combatir

Original Series: Tales of Symphonia

Younger sister of Presea and Laphicet's adoptive sister.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Presea cut off one of her arms with the Brand of Guilt before the Enforcers can find her and executed her.
  • Dead Man Writing: She wrote a letter to her older sister Presea before her incarnation of Sin devours her completely. She asks Presea to put her out of misery and wants her to move on without her.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In Symphonia, Alicia gets killed by the man she loved after her transformation into a monster. In Crestoria, Alicia wasn't killed by someone she loved. Instead, Velvet kills Alicia as a mercy kill before she can harm any innocent lives after her Incarnation of Sin devours her.
  • Hearing Voices: In Alicia's letter, she mentions that she has been hearing voices telling her she's a bad person and she should be dead. This is one of the early stages of her incarnation of Sin manifesting inside of her.
  • The Unseen: Alicia's human form was never shown before her transformation.

Luke's Party

    Luke

Luke fon Fabre

Original Series: Tales of the Abyss
Voiced by: Chihiro Suzuki

The next heir of House Fabre.

  • Adaptation Personality Change: In Abyss, Luke had a Heroic BSoD when he killed someone for the first time in his home game. He never really got over having to kill people to save his world, and it was mentioned in a cutscene that Luke could sometimes be found shaking while resting at camp after having to kill someone in self-defense that day. In Crestoria, Luke doesn't have a problem with killing human enemies at any point. The only time he has a problem with killing is when he's tricked into destroying the town of Southvein with a rock slide by Count Senegal. Even then, Luke announces that he'll kill the one responsible.
  • Death Seeker: Luke wants to die because he feels responsible for the destruction of of Southvein, though Jade talks him out of getting himself killed. When he encounters the sole survivor of Southvein, he begs Alisha to kill him for destroying her home, but she refuses because he hasn't been condemned and branded as a transgressor.
  • Heroic BSoD: Luke is horrified over killing a beast that regulated mana flow for Southvein, causing an avalanche that destroyed the town. Even though he was manipulated into doing it, Luke constantly ignored the party's warnings that something was suspicious.
  • It's All My Fault: Luke blames himself for the destruction of Southvein, the many lives lost after being manipulated by Senegal, and not listening to Kanata and the others' warning about him.
  • Jack of All Stats: Luke is roughly average in most stats. He can hit decently hard, build up the combo meter a bit, and he has a multi-target Arte to help damage multiple targets.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In his original game Luke is a replica of Asch; here, he's a real human who had a twin brother who disappeared during their childhood (who is also implied to be Asch).
  • Ship Tease: With Alisha.

    Jade

Jade

Original Series: Tales of the Abyss
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In his original game, Jade deserts Luke after the latter unwittingly destroyed Akzeriuth, and it takes a long time for Jade to trust him again. Here, he wasn't angry at or blaming Luke for the destruction of Southvein, instead he's helping him to seek atonement for his sin.

    Alisha

Voiced by: Ai Kayano

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Decides to hear out Kanata and Vicious despite knowing that they are Transgressors, and willingly endangers herself to save a young village guard from being condemned for accidentally angering the Guardian Entity and indirectly causing natural disasters to hit the region.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Takes it upon herself to investigate the cause of a monster infestation and unseasonable flooding rain in her territory.
  • We Interrupt This Program: Heroic example. When an angry villager broadcasts the actions of the rookie guard (conveniently leaving out the Just Following Orders context) and the condemnation starts setting in, Natalia puts herself on a vision orb and explains the full situation. While it convinces some, this is not quite enough to stop the people from calling for the poor guy's death, so Vicious steps into the frame and makes a scene, drawing the enforcers' attention to him and Kanata instead of Natalia and the guard.

However, in Crestoria, Asbel never met Sophie during his childhood and they are complete strangers. Instead, he met Sophie at Martino and helped her buy groceries in town. However, their relationship is still the same as in their main game.
  • Disney Death: After Asbel dies from his wounds protecting Sophie, he is revived by Sophie's new-found powers.
  • Glass Cannon:
    • Normal Asbel has the single lowest defense stat out of all the SSR's, with his attack being on the higher end of the list. That said he has among the highest base HP stats in the game too, so he can actually survive longer than one would think if he is given a small amount of defense by Memoria Stones.
    • Count Asbel plays this very straight by comparison; he has among the highest attack stats period, but his HP is the lowest of his rarity, and his defense is low as well.
  • Only in It for the Money: As a mercenary, Asbel is originally paid to keep an eye on Sophie. However, when Asbel gets to know Sophie, he's not in it for the money anymore.

He tried to kill her by pushing her off a cliff, but failed and suffered a severe head injury which resulted in him losing all his memories and becoming a different person.
