Viltrumites

    In General

In General

A super-powered race of former pacifists who went through a massive cultural shift, resulting in a civil war that saw most of their population dead and only the strong and vicious alive, who would then become a race of genocidal space conquerors. Tremendously feared and hated across the universe for causing billions of deaths and countless atrocities with their wars of conquest.

  • Achilles' Heel: Have a handful that they took great pains to eradicate from the universe.
    • One of the few they can’t circumvent is that their hearing is highly vulnerable to sonic attacks, being debilitated if not killed by them due to how their flight power works, which operate on an internal equilibrium so complex and efficient it doesn’t take much to ruin it when you got the right frequencies.
    • Viltrumite Super-Toughness and Healing Factor are absurdly potent, but can be overloaded by sustained bombardment from highly energetic subatomic particles - such as solar plasma - which could pass through and interfere with the subatomic processes which gave Viltrumites their near-invulnerability and regeneration. Taking advantage of this is partly how Invincible defeated Thragg near the end of the series, taking their fight near the surface of the Sun where sustained exposure to solar plasma wore down their Viltrumite physiology and allows even a Viltrumite as tough as Thragg to be killed.
  • All There in the Manual: The reason why Viltrum and Human genes are such a great match, beyond viltrumite DNA being immensively adaptive, is not explained in the comic proper; in the guidebook Kirkman alludes to Humanity and Viltrum having a common ancestor in an ancient alien race.
  • The Berserker: When Anissa first tries to reason with Mark to make him accept the presence of Viltrumites on Earth, she says Viltrumites and humans aren't that culturally different at the end of the day, but she does come clean about the fact Viltrumites are much more prone to anger and desire for conflict than a regular human would, labeling her own race as being inherently built to desire combat. That’s how easy it was for them to round up the more peaceful Viltrumites and kill them off during their civil war.
  • Dominant Species Genes: While they can interbreed with a wide variety of species, their features are dominant. This is naturally imperceptible with humans, but hybrids with Insectoid Aliens only have purple skin to show their mixed heritage, and even that fades as they age to a color within the average human range.
  • Dying Race: #66 reveals that the Viltrumites are driven to near extinction by the Scourge Virus, a biological weapon developed by the Coalition of Planets. Many perished or were temporarily deprived of their powers, with 99% of their population lost and less than fifty full-blooded Viltrumites alive. As a result, bans on crossbreeding with other conquered races were lifted to replenish their numbers with mixed results. Nolan's original mission to Earth was to turn it into a breeding camp after learning that human DNA is almost compatible with Viltrumites.
  • Emotion Suppression: It's clear that the Viltrumites potentially have as expansive an emotional range as humans do, but they suppress any feelings like pity, mercy, or empathy. This is intentional, to make their atrocities more bearable and as a self-defense mechanism lest their peers turn on them for displaying "weakness". Epitomized by Thragg, who literally has to have the feeling of love explained to him by his underlings.
  • The Empire: The Viltrum Empire.
  • Expy:
    • Viltrumites are based on Kryptonians from DC comics, the alien species of Superman, and thus have their standard Flying Brick powers (see below) minus the heightened senses and heat vision.
    • While aesthetically based off of Kryptonians, they have a lot more in common with the Saiyans from the Dragon Ball franchise; a race of Super-Strong, flying Human Aliens predisposed towards violence who are sent to planets (one Viltrumite each) to enslave and/or destroy its native inhabitants for their race's interests and are endangered as a direct result of their Might Makes Right warmongering, their remaining members having either had a Heel–Face Turn and started breeding with humans or are killed by more heroic members of their race.
  • Flying Brick: An entire race of them with such potency they became galactic scourges that conquered thousands of worlds with next to no equal. The exact scale of their powers isn’t consistent, as it takes till their twenties for their powers to reach their peak, with many of them still being leagues weaker than others... but often still light years stronger, faster, and tougher than 99% of the entire universe.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After integrating into human society, many of them begin to view Earth as their new home and ultimately help Mark and Omni-Man repel Thragg's new regime.
  • Human Aliens: Are near identical to humans on a genetic and superficial level, with the only real differences you’d notice on a physical level being that all Viltrumites have shades of black hair until they reach old age and have naturally muscular body structures. In terms of psychology they are this as well, with any differences being mostly cultural, leaving the one real difference between them and humans: a greater sense of aggression and violence.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: When they are ordered to integrate into human society in order to find partners and repopulate their race, many of them end up changing from bloodthirsty conquerors to empathetic people after being exposed to actual love for the first time in their long lives. For many of them, this happens surprisingly quickly.
  • Hybrid Power: Viltrumites can create offspring with many other alien species as their genes are extremely adaptive. Depending on the parent species, some hybrids (like Mark) can grow to become as powerful as a full-blooded Viltrumite.
  • Irony: At the start of the series, Nolan tries portraying the Viltrumites as Always Lawful Good to an impressionable young Mark, hiding the fact that they instead enslave "lesser" lifeforms under the pretense of uplifting them. By the very end of the series, the Viltrumites have since become the egalitarians his father described them as after Mark becomes the new Emperor.
  • Long Lived Race: Exaggerated. The Viltrumites are capable of becoming stronger from training and their absurd life span. They are capable of living for thousands of years and outlive many different kinds of aliens.
  • Love Redeems: Their later efforts to blend in human society manages to change the once vicious conquerors into empathic people by finding human partners who showed them what real love is; Lucan even tells Thragg there's something more to how humanity form couples compared to the Viltrumite way. It’s the perfect foundation for Mark to successfully make the Viltrumite race into a peaceful empire once he becomes their emperor.
  • Manly Facial Hair: Their culture seems to favor mustaches as the standard fashion for all Viltrumite males, the ones that do not have mustaches are glaring exceptions. When Mark becomes the emperor by the end of the series he actually needs to justify why he prefers to go clean shaven, reasoning that the era of pacific Viltrumites goes in hand with a clean shaven emperor, as the previous war monger emperor Thragg had the most impressive mustache of all.
  • Might Makes Right: They are such firm believers of this ideal that when the likes of Lucan and Kregg first fight against Mark, they don’t care about Mark being clearly against everything Viltrum stands for, they only saw the fact Mark was actually strong enough to survive their combined assault so in their minds Mark proved himself as a viltrumite, regardless of him not caring about any of that; in their eyes Mark would follow their rule given time, or die resisting.
  • Proud Warrior Race: Very much so. They venerate and love violence, having an incredibly engrained capacity for it on a genetic level that steered them to completely rebuild their society into one of conquest and violence. Many can overcome this urge with age and positive feedback, but the itch always exists and next to no examples exist of them not relishing combat and bloodshed on some level.
  • Punny Name: The philtrum is the groove on the face between the nose and the mouth, vertically delineating the area where a mustache grows.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Pure-blooded Viltrumites and half-human hybrids can live for thousands of years and not look it at all.
  • The Right of a Superior Species: How Viltrumites see every non-Viltrumite. They believe that the galaxy is their play thing to build up as they see fit, and other species are merely breeding stock that they use to propagate themselves. Much of this superiority complex comes from their belief that short lives have less value than longer ones. Since Viltrumites are close to immortal, the brief lives of humans and other species make them unworthy candidates for forming emotional attachments.
  • The Social Darwinist: Built an entire culture around this mindset that saw most of their weaker and peace loving counterparts dead (which was most of their race). They venerate strength and purity, seeing any weakness or betrayal of their new culture as grounds for immediate execution no matter who or how young they may be (with Viltrumites even getting medals for killing the weak). With those considered “worthy” of being a Viltrumite being measured by their strength and capacity for violence (the greater the capacity, the greater the station). However, this is not a species mindset, as their general psychology is next to identical to a human (with just a lot more built in aggression and violence), so any of them can be broken off this given enough time and exposure to outside influences.
  • Stronger with Age: A Viltrumite’s powers take time to fully mature. Additionally, they only get stronger if they continue to push themselves physically. Not to mention, their incredibly long lifespans allow for the benefit of experience without the worries of senescence. As such, it’s very rare for a young Viltrumite to be stronger than an older one.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Their DNA is powerfully self repairing and can adapt to hybridize with seemingly any species, but gradually rewrites itself so that the resulting hybrid's genome is majorily Viltrumite.
  • Technology Uplift: Standard procedure for any race they conquer and the justification they use to paint their centuries of conquest in a better light for themselves and prospect targets. To their credit they do their best to help create a paradise for those who go along with their takeovers willingly until they strip the planet bare... but utterly decimate and commit near planetary genocide on those who even slightly resist.
  • Vestigial Empire: The Viltrum Empire is in a very weakened state as 99% of their population were killed off by the Scourge virus. The Viltrumites covered up the deaths caused by the virus and keep up empty threats to the Coalition of Planets.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Viltrumites like Anissa and Nolan claimed that planets would be turned into utopias under Viltrumite rule. While it's true on their part until they stripped the planets' resources bare as mentioned above, others like Conquest relished in violent annexation for their enjoyment.

    Grand Regent Thragg

Grand Regent Thragg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_473.png

Grand Regent of the Viltrumites, Thragg was trained from birth to be the strongest among them.

  • Abusive Parents: He uses his children as cannon fodder — sometimes quite literally throwing them at Mark. This comes back to bite him in the ass. When it becomes clear that Mark (the enemy) cares more about Thragg's kids than he does, the kids quickly turn their backs on their father.
  • The Ace: A villainous example. Thragg is the strongest Viltrumite in the entire series, trained from birth to be the strongest of all. He's so strong he can fight several Rognarrs (one of the few creatures in the universe that present a threat to a Viltrumite) by himself and win without trouble. The only characters that come even near his level of strength are Nolan, Battle Beast, Allen and Mark.
  • Aggressive Negotiations: Thragg pretty much forces Mark to accept his deal to keep the Viltrumites on earth to interbreed and pull their ranks back up until it would be time to conquer it. Mark is extremely displeased, but he didn't have much of a choice—he knew that he didn't stand a chance against Thragg at that moment, and with the remaining Viltrumites already blending in amongst humanity all around the world, each of whom is a Person of Mass Destruction that can casually cause untold casualties, there was no way to avoid planetary disaster except giving in.
  • Always Someone Better: As powerful as Omni-Man is, Thragg is on a whole different level. Nolan gets completely outclassed in all of their confrontations and has to rely on outside help just to stand a chance, and even then it's not enough to save him in their final battle.
  • Arch-Enemy: To both Invincible and Omni-Man.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Was raised to meet this expectation. He is easily the Viltrumites' greatest fighter, and his position reflects his power is that he is The Dreaded to everyone.
  • Ax-Crazy: For Thragg, killing's as fundamental as breathing. The man should be the ruler of his own padded cell instead of an entire planet.
  • Bad Boss: In contrast to The Good King Omni-Man and Invincible, he has no tolerance for failure and little patience for those who don't commit to their assignments.
  • Beast of Battle: In the final battle, he enters the fray with two Rognarrs as bodyguards. They end up being the mmost dangerous threat apart from Thragg himself, killing Anissa and nearly Atom Eve as well.
  • Berserker Tears: Briefly, when Viltrum is destroyed.
  • Big Bad: Of the entire series. Thragg is the key reason why the Viltrumites are the way that they are, and doesn't take well to losing his position of power.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Shares this position with Robot, though Thragg is by far the more dangerous and evil of the two.
  • Child Soldiers: Raised his half-Thraxan children as this and was one himself, being born and bred to be the strongest Viltrumite their race had ever seen.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: In almost every fight he takes part in, he wins while taking no damage. More often than not, his enemies injure themselves by hitting him.
    • Invincible and Omni-Man are completely outclassed by Thraag when they first face him, the latter shattering his hand punching Thraag. They only survive because Thraag spares them.
    • When he's attacked by Dinosaurus, who's trying to save Mark, Dinosaurus can't do a single bit of damage to Thragg and injures himself trying to maul the Viltrumite. Thragg, on the other hand, really lets Dinosaurus have it.
    • When he comes to kill Mark to get revenge for destroying Viltrum, he kills Oliver and nearly kills Mark and Eve while not taking a scratch on him.
    • Omni-Man is as outclassed as ever in the final fight with Thraag and dies from the wounds Thraag inflicts on him.
    • Subverted in his fight with Battle Beast, who proved to be the only being in the universe he couldn't immediately kill, with their brawl taking over several days and Thokk coming very close to winning. Had Battle Beast not intentionally injured himself to make the fight "fair", it's quite possible that Thragg would've lost.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Serious most of the time, but Thragg admits he has a sense of humor when "fighting" Oliver.
Thragg: (stops Oliver's punch) You are a funny one, I gather. Always cracking jokes. Very good. I enjoy a good joke, myself. Stop me if you've heard this one... (rips off Oliver's arm and knocks his jaw off with a single punch)
Thragg: (tossing away Oliver's mangled arm) Seemed like such a nice boy...
  • The Dreaded: All of the remaining Viltrumites are terrified of Thragg with even the battle-hungry Conquest cowering in fear in front of him and Omni-Man himself cautiously warning Mark against facing him. He swiftly lives up to the reputation once he starts fighting. The fact he even managed to kill Battle Beast made him even more feared through the verse.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: He indulges in this trope after he's deposed as leader of the Viltrumites for not being of the royal bloodline and the true heir, swearing vengeance against the remainder of his kind for deposing him despite his supposed dedication to preserving their race and culture for thousands of years.
  • Enemy Mine: Is willing to team up with Mark or Nolan to prevent the end of the Viltrumite race.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite being an insane and genocidal warmonger, he seemed to love Viltrum and his people, and believed the only way for them to survive was under his rule... Up until he was rejected by Viltrumites, who decided to follow in Nolan's footsteps and live in peaceful coexistence with humans; at this point he doesn't care about anything other than revenge, even if it means killing off the remainder of the pure-blooded Viltrumite populace because of his bruised ego. While he seemingly loved his twin children, Onaan and Ursaal (he was outraged when Mark killed Onaan and threw his corpse at him, and he hugged Ursaal when she mourned his death) it wasn't unconditional love, as he just barely finds it in himself to restrain his anger and return Ursaal's hug. His later claim that all weak Viltrumites deserve to die implies Onaan's death did not faze him at all.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's baffled by Battle Beast's Blood Knight tendencies, pointing out that what he does was for the good of Viltrum rather than to satiate his blood lust.
  • Evil Counterpart: To both Invincible and Omni-Man, especially to the latter. While Nolan represents Viltrum's potential to change for the better, Thragg represents the worst aspects of Viltrumite culture that continues to stick to the old ways of conquest and slaughter. This is highlighted by the way they both rule Thraxa. Nolan's rule was largely benevolent and managed to start a small but loving family. Thragg, on the other hand, turned the planet into a Baby Factory where his children are to serve as Cannon Fodder.
  • Evil Is Petty: And how. After being removed from his status as Regent due to Nolan's more legitimate claim, he has started a war against his own people with an army of children he sired. When Mark finds out the reason, he thinks Thragg is pathetic and alone.
  • Expy: Of Superman villain General Zod.
  • Eye Scream: Suffers this during his battle with Battle Beast, who bites into his face.
  • Fatal Flaw: Thragg is the strongest Viltrumite alive, but that's really all that he is. He's not smarter, or wiser or any more fit to lead beyond his overwhelming power, and he lacks both empathy and imagination so he isn't really capable of adapting to anything outside of his very narrow view of the universe...and he thinks that if he can't adapt to the universe, then the universe must adapt to him instead. In short, Thragg thinks Might Makes Right because "might" is the only thing he has going for him to begin with.
  • Freddie Mercopy: He's basically what '80s Freddie Mercury would look like if he took steroids.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The mastermind behind the Viltrumite Empire’s plans, sending Omni-Man to earth and later Conquest before becoming more active himself over the course of the series.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: To absolutely insane levels. Any meager slight, inconvenience or challenge to his authority is immediately met with bloodshed. Even when being diplomatic, it's common for him to mention how low his patience is running.
  • Hero Killer: He has killed Thadeus, Battle Beast, Oliver, and Nolan by the end of the story. He would have also killed Mark were it not for Eve's powers kicking in.
  • Hypocrite: Despite presenting himself as better than Battle Beast due to fighting for Viltrum rather than his own bloodlust, he’s all too eager to try and destroy his own people after they spurn his rule.
  • Hurl It into the Sun: Mark hurls himself and Thragg into the sun to render Thragg vulnerable. Robot sending one of his suits to protect Mark grants him a few crucial seconds of protection from the searing heat that Thragg lacks (which neatly illustrates the difference between them — Mark's enemy is willing to help him while Thragg is alone). After Mark finishes the battle by tearing out Thragg's throat with his teeth, the dying Thragg sinks helplessly into the sun and burns up into nothing.
  • Invincible Villain: As the strongest Viltrumite, Thragg runs through various fighters in the series with ease. The first fight he lost was because he was being ganged up on by 4 other Viltrumites. In the end Mark didn't defeat him by overpowering him but rather by forcing him to fight in the sun where he would slowly but surely burn to death.
  • Irony: Despite being bred and raised to become the strongest Viltrumite, Thragg's offspring are extremely weak and fragile by Viltrumite standards, with many of them literally smashing their bodies apart when colliding into Omni-Man.
  • The Juggernaut: Viltrumites are all but unstoppable. Thraag is to other Viltrumites what they are to other beings. It is not until very late in the series that someone even makes him bleed.
  • Kick the Dog: Simply killing Battle Beast wasn't enough; he skins his hide and wears it as a cape like some sick trophy for himself. It's made worse by the fact that he wears Battle Beast's pelt right in front of his own people when he conquers their planet.
  • Lack of Empathy: Perhaps his greatest flaw besides his self-centeredness is his complete lack of empathy for others. His little understanding or care for other people's feelings leads him to underestimate them and fail in his objectives each time.
  • Motive Decay: He went from wanting to conquer other planets and protect his people regardless of the cost, to wanting revenge on Mark, everyone he loves, and the Viltrumites, the same people he wanted to rule over and was committed to preserving.
  • Narcissist: At his core, he wants to be the leader of the Viltrumites, and if he's not (which happens), he calls Ungrateful Bastard on all of them and tries to kill them all despite his supposed dedication to preserving their race and culture; or, if we're being charitable, Thragg can't distinguish between Vitrumite culture and himself, so while he might be willing to stand aside for another leader, this is conditional on Thragg being given the respect he feels he deserves for being the leader for thousands of years, and on his replacement being committed to continuing the Viltrumite way- hence, in his mind, it's not that he betrayed the Viltrumites, it's that the Viltrumites betrayed him and themselves.
  • Nemean Skinning: Takes to wearing Battle Beast's pelt as a regal cape after their battle.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: After Viltrum is destroyed, he arranges to have the surviving Viltrumites live on Earth (on the condition that they won't destroy Earth or interfere in human affairs) for the time being so they can repopulate, and then continue their conquest once they have sufficient numbers. What he fails to anticipate is that, like Nolan, most of them rapidly become less violent and evil after even a short time living on Earth and experiencing positive relationships. By the time Thragg is deposed and Nolan takes over, most Viltrumites have lost interest in violent conquest and actually want to be a positive force in the universe.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Even for a Viltrumite. Most Viltrumites simply shrug off attacks from other enemies. Thraag is so durable that hitting him typically results in his enemy shattering their hand.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Thragg has some superficial resemblance to General Francisco Franco, dictator of Spain, in that both are moustachioed semi-Fascist types who rule as Regent in place of an absent King; Thragg is even introducing sporting the exact same type of fur-coated cape that Franco was know to wear. That being said, Thraggs' overall philosophy of Might Makes Right and genocidal Social Darwinist beliefs otherwise makes him closer to a muscular, superpowered Space Hitler.
  • Not So Invincible After All: While Thraag appears indestructible for most of the series, his near death from fighting Battle Beast shows that he can be killed. Invincible later manages to kill him in the Final Battle by taking the fight into the sun.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Despite his preaching about how everything he does is to preserve his race and culture, the fact that he's willing to turn on his fellow Viltrumites the moment they reject his rule proves that he's only interested in preserving his position as top dog.
  • The Paragon: In order to be made Regent, Thragg was trained from birth, tempered to be the strongest of the Viltrumites and educated in all manners of combat, being a paragon of the social Darwinist mindset of his people.
  • Pet the Dog: He treats the Thraxan mothers of his children surprisingly well, showing no hints of disdain or anger around them, even allowing them to take the children out to play in the meadows when they were supposed to be on the run from Coalition of Planets. However, his kindness is ultimately insincere, given his ominous goals.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Although he is still a Psychopathic Manchild at his most reasonable, he did listen to Omni-Man and Invincible’s warnings on how to proceed in day to day life on Earth. He’s also willing to listen to a lesser being, as long as said lesser being gives out good advice. Make no mistake Thragg cares for no one but himself, but who will he have to rule over if he doesn't abide by native customs, nor have any competent servants who know what they will do if he blunders?
  • Psychopathic Manchild: After being overthrown, Thragg is really nothing more than a pathetic overgrown child throwing a genocidal temper tantrum over not getting what he wants.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He defeats and kills Battle Beast after a long, grueling fight spanning several days, but is so drained he faints after the ordeal.
  • Quantity vs. Quality: His army of offspring numbers in the thousands, but apart from Onaan and Ursaal, they tend to fare very poorly in battle. This is likely due to Thragg never investing much effort in training them to be anything more than literal Cannon Fodder, as well as them barely reaching maturity as Oliver did.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: At some point, he forcibly breeds with every women on a whole planet to make offspring, all to form a new army.
  • Really Gets Around: After getting exiled from Earth and its moon, Thragg makes himself at home on Thraxa, siring dozens if not hundreds of children. Actually around a thousand or more.
  • Red Is Violent: He has quite a lot of red on his costumes, particularly his cape, and he's possibly one of the most brutal and evil villains in the series.
  • Revenge Before Reason: The whole point of his war on his own people! He essentially abandoned his commitment to saving his race and culture no matter the costs in favor of killing them all out of spite.
  • The Social Darwinist: He is the pinnacle of his culture's belief in this. He believes that only the strongest of the Viltrumites can rule, unaware that the ruler he succeeded was revered for his leadership rather than strength; his inability to accept this is the greatest motivator for him to betray his own race.
  • Sore Loser: He takes losing his Grand Regent title to Nolan extremely poorly, so much so, that he tries to murder him on the spot.
  • Strong and Skilled: He is not only physically stronger than just about all Viltrumites, he's easily one of their most skilled, being a master of combat with next to no equal. The only way Mark could defeat him for good was through a battle of attrition in the middle of Earth's Sun, as they both slowly burned to crisp while exchanging punches until Mark could deliver a crippling blow before being taken to safety by Allen, while Thragg disintegrated.
  • True Final Boss: He is the last significant antagonist of the series next to Robot. After he's killed, things mellow out.
  • Villain Has a Point:
    • After watching Viltrum get destroyed, a heartbroken and enraged Thragg beats Mark to a pulp while raging that what Invincible and the other Viltrumite traitors have done is worse than anything Thragg and his followers have done; how much of a point he has mind depends on whether you consider destroying someone's planet worse than being the overlord of an expansionist space empire that routinely engages in mass murder.
    • Viltrumites believe that they deserve to rule and plunder the universe at their leisure because they are stronger than everybody else - as such, Thragg is justified in disregarding his orders to find and submit to the son of Argall since that son is weaker than him and those orders were in tension with his cultural norms from the outset. Thragg represents the logical conclusion of Viltrumite beliefs, and arguably his only real hypocrisy is on continuing to call himself a "regent" rather than just publicly admitting that he doesn't care about what anyone else thinks on the matter and making himself the new King.
  • We Have Reserves: He has scores of his own children slaughter themselves on Mark by crushing themselves on him.
  • World's Strongest Man: The strongest Viltrumite, who are already some of the most powerful beings in the known universe. Thragg is far out of most characters' league. Omni-Man (who was the World's Strongest Man on Earth) admits that him and Invincible combined against him is a Hopeless Boss Fight.
  • Would Hurt a Child: With gusto. He maimed the teenage Oliver with the intent to kill and Thragg's first act after raising his army was attacking Mark and trying to crush little Terra's skull like a grape.

    Conquest

Conquest

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_503.jpeg

Second strongest of the Viltrumites. He is sent to Earth to check on Mark's progress of conquering the Earth.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: His on-panel actions depict him as little more than a blood-thirsty brute who loves to kill and maim anyone Thragg unleashes him upon. Nolan still gives him a funeral after Mark finally kills him, stating that Conquest was indeed a great warrior who lost his way and at least deserves the dignity of a proper burial despite his actions.
  • An Arm and a Leg: A Rognarr ate his right arm. He gets a replacement and eventually loses that one, too.
  • Artificial Limbs: Conquest replaced his lost arm with a mechanical prosthetic. It gets ruined in a fight with Invincible and he replaces it again after escaping prison and returning to the Empire.
  • Ax-Crazy: By God. Even by the standards of the other Viltrumites, Conquest is a sadistic, savage maniac, with only Thragg being worse than him.
  • Badass Boast: As expected of an old warrior, just about everything he says is this. Even him doing something as simple as introducing himself sounds like a Badass Boast:
"Maybe you do not understand the situation. The Viltrum Empire anticipated your resistance— That is why they sent me, specifically. I am Conquest. I have never failed to assimilate a chosen planet, no matter its strength. If you choose to oppose me, you will not survive."
  • Blood Knight: He doesn't care about expanding the Viltrumite Empire like other Viltrumites. He just wants to fight and relishes any chance to do so.
"The truth is, I want you (Mark) to resist. I'm not here because I want to spread the Viltrum Empire. I'm not here because I believe in one cause or the other, or that I'm fulfilling some kind of honorable duty. I'm here because I enjoy this."
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: Exaggerated: Conquest is doused in the blood of Invincible and Eve during his first fight with the former, giving him an absolutely nightmarish face when he gloats to Invincible. Conquest even licks Atom Eve's own blood and says it's delicious.
  • The Brute: Thragg made it abundantly clear that his raison d’etre is to fight and kill any threats to the Viltrumites. Thus he serves as the strongest guard dog the Viltrumites have, and typically acts as an expendable brute.
  • Card Board Prison: Despite being put inside a 400-ton underground prison at the middle of the desert, Conquest was able to easily break out the moment he is fully healed.
  • Combat Breakdown: During his first fight against Invincible, the battle becomes so desperate that the both of them start to fight like savage animals to emerge as the victor. Invincible starts to use his teeth, head, and is even willing to shatter his own arm just to destroy Conquest's own artificial arm.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: He definitely loves the thrill of fighting and goading Mark into combating him. Even when Mark beats him to a pulp, he was still smiling out of satisfaction.
  • Co-Dragons: With Kregg to Thragg.
  • The Dragon: Acts as chief enforcer on behalf of Thragg and the Viltrum Empire.
  • The Dreaded: Is this even among his fellow Viltrumites, to the point that they briefly stop fighting upon hearing that Mark killed him.
  • Evil Gloating: While Invincible mourns for a dying Atom Eve, Conquest “thanks” Mark in the most insulting way possible; for defying the Viltrumite Empire and giving him the excuse to go crazy in destroying the Earth.
  • Evil Is Bigger: He's a large, imposing Viltrumite who towers above Mark in every way.
  • Evil Laugh: Conquest just laughs when Invincible swears to kill him.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's a legendary fighter among the Viltrumites, and because Viltrumites age slower the older they get, the amount of battles he must have been in is terrifying.
  • Face–Heel Turn: According to Nolan, Conquest was a great warrior who lost his way, implying that he wasn't that evil before.
  • Facial Horror: At the end of the first fight with him, he manages to break Invincible's arms and one of his legs. As a last desperate attack, Invincible headbutts him multiple times until Conquest's face is horribly disfigured.
  • Fan Disservice: When Conquest is blasted in the back by Atom Eve in her full powered state, he gets both his clothes (showing off a lot of his muscles) and skin burnt off.
  • Faking the Dead: Cecil makes a fake body of Conquest to trick Invincible into thinking he’s dead. In reality, he had Conquest is locked up inside a prison under a desert where he could be interrogated for information on the Viltrumite Empire.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Downplayed. He's quite polite to Mark throughout the fight, every now and then, calmly talking to him and explaining his reasons to be on Earth... while brutally beating Mark and some of his family members.
  • Flaying Alive: Downplayed. He gets blasted from behind by Atom Eve after she healed herself, burning off a chunk of his skin.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Conquest is such a violent brute that even the other Viltrumites cannot stand him. When Invincible faces Conquest a second time, the other Viltrumites hope the fight ends with both of them dead.
  • Godzilla Threshold: He is essentially this to the Viltrumite Empire. He is the greatest active warrior in their army, who always conquers every planet he's assigned to. And yet his status as one of the few remaining pure-blooded Viltrumites left in the universe make his continued existence especially sacred to the Empire. Him being sent to Earth is explicitly because the Viltrumite Empire anticipated that Invincible would resist, and consider that possibility enough of a threat that they refused to send anything less than Conquest to stand in opposition.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Cecil fakes Conquest's death by showing Invincible a fake body, and locking the real Conquest inside a prison several miles beneath a desert. Cecil planned on interrogating Conquest to gain knowledge about the Viltrumite Empire, but it goes horribly wrong. Cecil genuinely thought that a 400-ton underground prison would hold a Viltrumite who nearly killed Invincible, who is considered to be the strongest superhero on Earth.
  • Gutted Like a Fish: In his second fight against Invincible, Conquest sharpens his hand and punches Invincible's stomach so hard that a huge hole is made. Then Conquest shoves his metallic hand inside it to crush Invincible's intestines.
  • Hidden Depths: Conquest is actually a brute with plenty of composure. His love for fighting and carnage is genuine to the point of him openly showing disdain for feelings of anger, wrath and the like, as he reprimanded Mark for trying to overcome him with rage; he is a monster, but one that wants to be in control of what he does.
  • Implacable Man: Easily one of Invincible's most powerful foes and seen as virtually unstoppable, pushing Mark to use the most brutal fighting methods to keep up against him along with some assistance.
  • Killer Bear Hug: Conquest attempts to restrain Invincible's attacks by bear hugging him. Invincible breaks out of the hug by biting his shoulder off.
  • Motive Rant: Gives one to Mark after almost killing Atom Eve.
Conquest: "I should do this now— don't know when I'll get the chance again. I want to thank you Mark Grayson...Invincible. Really. From the bottom of my heart. It's not very often that I get to cut loose like this. I mean really cut loose like I have here. Usually, there are so many mission parameters. "Don't destroy this.'' "Keep this person alive." But not here— not with this planet. For some reason, I don't really care why, to be honest, I was told— take control, no matter what it takes...take control of the planet. So whatever you did to piss us off— Thank you. This has been fun.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His name is Conquest, and he more than lives up to his name; being a violent, sadistic Blood Knight who never failed to conquer a world before he met Invincible. He's also able to seriously injure Mark, Oliver, and Atom Eve. And according to Cecil, there are probably only six heroes on the planet who could last more than a minute against him.
  • Never Found the Body: Invincible attempts to defy the trope to make sure that Conquest is dead, but is instead shown a fake body of Conquest by Cecil Stedman. Cecil instead fakes Conquest's death in order to use the latter to learn more about the Viltrumite Empire.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: During his first fight against Invincible, Conquest makes it clear that he does not fight for the Viltrumite Empire, honor, or a cause, but because he enjoys killing his enemies.
  • Not Quite Dead: He is seemingly killed by the many headbutts he received from Invincible. However, Conquest manages to survive the attack due to being locked up inside a Card Board Prison by Cecil, with the intention of interrogation.
  • Old Soldier: Similar to Thaedus, he is very old soldier, though the similarities stop there. He's even considered very old for a Viltrumite, who live for thousands and thousands of years, and the fact that he's lived so long in their culture should tell you all you need to know about how terrifying a warrior he is.
  • Punched Across the Room: He delivers many punches that send Invincible flying through many buildings before the latter crashes on the ground.
  • Sadist: Unlike the rest of his species, Conquest has proven himself to be one of, if not the most, sadistic viltrumite on planet Viltrum. As soon as Conquest fights Mark, he often smirks at the superhero and tells Mark how idiotic it is to beg for mercy in his eyes. After skewering Atom Eve, he mocks Invincible for trying to love a human and tells Mark to hurry up with any remaining feeling he has for Eve as she’s dying. Conquest even thanks him for resisting the Viltrum Empire and giving him the chance to go wild, showcasing a terrifying Nightmare Face.
  • Slasher Smile: He holds a nightmarish smile when he gives his “thank you” speech to Invincible.
  • Smug Snake: Implied. Conquest doesn't take either of his fights with Invincible seriously until the very end. Omni-Man explains that he won so many battles that he acts more like a spectator rather than a fighter. This ends up being his undoing in their final battle, as it allows Invincible to get the drop on him via adrenaline and by then, it is too late.
  • Torso with a View: When Atom Eve arrives in his battle against Invincible, Conquest immediately impales her with his own hand. He does the same to Mark in their rematch in almost the same manner.
  • To Serve Man: He threatens to eat Oliver and Mark's hearts once their fight is over, and he licks Eve's blood off his fingers, commenting that he finds it "Delicious."
  • Undying Loyalty: Most of Conquest's loyalty towards Thragg mainly leans towards fear rather than care.
  • Victory by Endurance: In his second fight against Invincible, Mark strangles him to death while enduring Conquest rupturing his rips, punching though his torso and yanking his guts out.
  • Villain Respect: Develops some towards Mark in their fight. When Mark destroys his robotic hand in their Punch Parry, an impressed Conquest muses that they’re finally getting somewhere.
  • Villainous Valour: As Invincible asks him if he’s given up fighting him after a headbutt. Conquest replies that he "takes the good with the bad", so Invincible gives him several more headbutts until Conquest’s face is caved in. In their second fight, Conquest still refuses to give up fighting even when Invincible is choking him. He even goes as far as to drive his own robotic hand into Invincible's guts before he ultimately dies from lack of air.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The Scourge virus weakened him, so the Rognarrs were able to maul him and take his eye and arm.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He is more than eager to try and murder Oliver.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He had no hesitation impaling Atom Eve and throwing her on the ground in front of Mark.

    Anissa

Anissa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_98325.jpeg

Anissa is a female Viltrumite warrior and among the last remaining survivors.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: She became more interested in Mark after raping him. He, by contrast, hates being around her. She eventually gets over it when she falls in love with a human.
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: She possesses dark hair, is a member of the same Flying Brick race as the main hero, and has the role of being the Dark Action Girl who can be downright ruthless and evil. As far as counterparts go, she fulfills a similar role in Invincible that Ursa or Faora Hu-Ul play in the Superman mythos. The only major difference is that she isn't in a relationship with the Zod Expy and she eventually redeems herself, giving up her A Nazi by Any Other Name mentality, and dies trying to protect Mark.
  • Art Evolution: In her earlier appearances, she was drawn with more masculine features including shorter hair. She has more feminine features later on and her hair has grown out slightly.
  • The Atoner: While she doesn't regret raping Mark since it gave her her son, she is clearly sorry about it and is willing to die to save his wife and make up for what she did.
  • Berserk Button: All Viltrumites are quick to turn violent. Something they struggle with and she admitted that she's killed for things less than taunting her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Oh, so very much and she seems to enjoy it. She acted all nice and helpful in hopes of seducing Mark. When Mark rejects her, she rapes him. When Mark attacks the drone Rex sent to negotiate with the Viltrumite, she pretended to help him up only for him to slap her hand in anger, but her only reaction is to smile. A day later, when Mark is on the Viltrumite warship she sees him and casually greets him and his anger gets the better of him and he grabs her by the throat, shouting at her to "back off". However, she only revealed how much she is enjoying his anger and aggression to the point where she wants to speed up their "next meeting". The shocked Mark lets her go and she smiles as Mark denies anything that his father need to know about what happened.
  • Blood Knight: She is shown to consider the fact that she must fight after failing to convince others with her thoughts to be lucky for her. Also, before she raped Mark who tried to make her leave him alone only for her to enjoy the conflict.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: While raping Mark is wrong on every possible level, from Anissa's perspective it was simply "the Viltrumite way", something that Nolan later acknowledges with great remorse once he finds out what she did to Mark.
  • Dark Action Girl: She is super strong, fast, ruthless, cruel and will not hesitate before she kills her enemies. She softens after the Time Skip, thanks to her Morality Pet.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Nolan tells Mark that she's become a much kinder person while he was missing. Obviously Mark is skeptical since she raped him. Peculiarly, it turns out to be true (their son was an effective Morality Pet), and she eventually dies saving Eve.
  • Didn't Think This Through: It isn't until the implication she's done something to Mark that she realized raping the son of her leader, who is clearly more powerful than she is, was never a good idea. Cue Neck Lift by an enraged Papa Wolf.
  • Dies Wide Open: The reason why nobody realized she was dead right away was because her eyes were still open.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: After five years she has a husband, a daughter by him, and son by Mark due to her raping him five years ago, all of whom she loves very much.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She tried to convince Mark to accept the Viltrumite ways first and fought him after he refused. Later, Conquest mentions that she would try to convince others unlike him, which means she is known to try to convince others with the ways of her people instead of fighting first.
  • Evil Counterpart: Anissa to Eve. Both of them are after the same guy. However, Eve, who had some problems with Mark leaving for a long time, along with carrying their unborn child in her womb and believing he was dead, was willing to avoid the use of her superpowers to preserve the life of her the baby and sought to bring it into a world free of super-powered violence. Anissa, who fought against Mark before, wants to ensure that she can carry out her mission to birth children in order to save the Viltrumite species, rebuild the empire and doesn't care what Mark wants, and is the opposite sort of mother-to-be: actively embracing aggression and force to ensure the birth of a child to the point of raping Mark after seeing that the "Human's way" of seducing Mark didn't work. Also, Eve gave birth to a daughter, Terra while Anissa had a boy whom she calls Marky.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Pulls one to try and protect Mark towards the end of the series, whilst defending Earth.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: She enjoys Mark's aggression toward her after she raped him as seen when he grabbed her by the throat. All to the point of admitting that it made her want to speed up their "next meeting".
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: Disturbingly Invoked by Anissa after her attempts to seduce Mark using the "earth ways" failed. She resorts to using the physical Viltrumite method which is rape.
  • Irony: Big-time.
    • This vile, bloodthirsty rapist becomes a loving mother and wife.
    • She also ends up Happily Married to a human man and having a half-breed daughter with him, despite basically having the A Nazi by Any Other Name mentality in the past.
    • She ends up laying down her life to defend the Earth from a Viltrumite warlord.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Thragg calls her out for refusing to procreate with the humans, Anissa points out that Thragg can't have the same expectations of her as he does with her male counterparts. While it's partly motivated by Fantastic Racism, she's not wrong in that as a woman, she would be saddled with the additional responsibility of not just carrying her potential children but raising them as well. As such, she doesn't have the freedom of going around siring children with humans as Kregg does.
  • Killed Offscreen: When she is last seen she is still alive but wounded after saving Eve's life, and it is unclear how wounded she actually was. It is revealed she succumbed to her wounds in between the events of two issues.
  • Light Is Not Good: Wears white with silver, but is very much cruel and sadistic.
  • Love Redeems: It took a much longer time than her fellow Viltrumites, but she eventually starts a family of her own on Earth. She is Happily Married to a human man and has a daughter with him, while raising Marky as well. Mark is understandably deeply sceptical, but it turns out to be correct, and she performs a Heroic Sacrifice at the end.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Oh, so very much. She rapes the main character and he is affected to the point where he can't seem to have intimacy with the woman he loves, Eve. Also, Mark starts to shake at the sight of her and can't bring himself to tell his father, who is emperor of the Viltrumite and would certainly punish Anissa for what she did if he found out. He doesn't do or say anything when she whispers "missed you" to him and that is right after the birth of his daughter. Mark was so affected by what happened to the point that he couldn't stay with Eve after the birth of their daughter. Mark started to become more aggressive with Anissa as he grabbed her by the throat in front of his father, whom he told to stay out of it, only to let her go after hearing her admit that she is enjoying his aggression and it makes her want to speed up their "next meeting". Mark is so shocked that he lets her go and when his father ask him if there is something that he should know about, Mark just says "no" twice as he walks away while Anissa smiles.
  • Obliviously Evil: As Nolan acknowledges later with great remorse, Anissa wouldn't have seen anything wrong with raping Mark due to her being a product of Viltrum's fight-obsessed Might Makes Right culture. From her perspective, raping Mark was standard Viltrumite intercourse. After spending a longer time on Earth and assimilating their ethical values, she does acknowledge in retrospect that what she did was wrong and ultimately dies in her efforts to atone for what she has done.
  • Oh, Crap!: Five years after she raped Mark, she got into an altercation with Eve, who had full knowledge of what she did. When Nolan breaks up the fight and hears Eve mention something about the incident, he grabs Anissa by the throat and demands to know what she did. However, after Mark lies about the rape, Nolan lets her go — though he eventually figures it out. Then, in the last page, we see her fly home to her husband/lover, Scott and their newborn daughter, displaying an odd sense of humanity. Then, we are introduced to a little boy who resembles a young Mark and it's later confirmed that he is Mark's son.
  • Older Than They Look: Anissa was born on the Viltrumite home planet, witnessed the time of king Argall, the purge, the Scourge virus and Thragg coming to power which happened thousands of years ago. She doesn't look that much older than Mark.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: She rapes Mark in Issue 110 and her excuse for that is the Viltrumite mission of procreating with humans in order to save their kind from extinction and she wasn't performing on her end because she didn't want to mate with the humans that reside on Earth. Also that Mark is young and weak, but he has Viltrumite blood running in his veins. She informs a traumatized and crying Mark to "man-up" and that it will probably take a few more times to impregnate her and she will see him soon before flying away. This means she intends to do it again, much to Mark's horror. This event is also the reason why, in Issue 137, Mark doesn't exactly believe his dad when he tells him that she changed for the better during the Time Skip — though as it turns out, Love Redeems.
  • Redemption Equals Death: She dies in battle, trying to protect Mark.
  • Retired Monster: Anissa seems to have mellowed within five years, even starting a family with a normal human alongside her son through another father.
  • Serial Rapist: Knowing how normal and common it is amongst Viltrumites to forcefully breed with one another—her raping Mark probably wasn't the first time of her forcing herself on a person. After getting punched by Allen the Alien in Issue 46, she says that her fourth husband couldn't even hit her that hard .
  • Use Your Head: In Issue 110, when Mark rejects her, she responds by breaking his nose with a headbutt and then raping him.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: She wants Mark for her mate because of his half-Viltrumite DNA. She doesn't care for his consent.

    General Kregg

General Kregg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/general_kregg_invincible_comics.jpg

One of Viltrum’s top enforcers, he is in almost all conflicts the Viltrumites took part in the series, for bad and for good.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Like DC's Jax-Ur who's sometimes drawn with a mechnical eyepatch, has a skinnier muscular build, and is affiliated with Zod, General Kregg is a leaner Viltrumite with a mechanical eyepatch who's affiliated with Thragg, the Zod Expy. The only major difference is that Kregg is much more of a ladies man than Jax-Ur and grows to like Earth.
  • Art Evolution: Kregg was drawn more frightening and looked more pugnacious in the earlier issues of the Invincible comic. His looks later soften to be a reminder that he has a change of heart (And also to the fact that the art style evolved over the years).
  • Badass Biker: Kregg seemly takes an interest in bikes while living on Earth, becoming a mechanic for them.
  • The Berserker: When confronting Nolan in Issues 46 & 47, he suddenly, loudly berates Nolan and states to him that he would be put to death for his "disgrace" to the Viltrum empire. Afterwards, Kregg beats Nolan up for a little while just to have him sent back to his cell.
  • Co-Dragons: With Conquest to Thragg.
  • The Dragon: He arguably fits this trope better than Conquest. Despite the latter's superior strength and experience, it's shown that Kregg outranks him. When Conquest comes back to report his failure to Thragg, Kregg tells him to get on his knees before his superiors, to which Conquest meekly complies. And given that no other Viltrumite seems to possess the rank of general, this makes Kregg the second highest-ranking Viltrumite behind Thragg himself.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Quite unnoticeably, his hair was a bit fuller in his first few early appearances. His hair later in the comics look shorter (he looks more like he's balding) and gets a clear widow's peak.
  • Exact Words: Combined with Loophole Abuse, General Kregg is aware that for a Viltrumite to be executed, they must have their bodies to be intact. General Kregg gets around the rule of execution by having Nolan get bruised by two Viltrumite soldiers because the rule never said that a Viltrumite can't have bruises.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Takes up wearing an eyepatch after blending in with human society, covering his bionic eye.
  • Eye Scream: Loses his eye due to the Scourge Virus, replacing it with a mechanical implant thereafter.
  • Family Man: After siring dozens of children with dozens of women, he actually loves them all genuinely. He is also married to all of them and takes great care of his children equally.
  • Loophole Abuse: A Viltrumite must be intact in order for them to be executed. General Kregg improvises the rule by having two Viltrumite soldiers bruise up Nolan because the rule never said that the Viltrumite can't have bruises.
  • Rank Up: Kregg is the only recurring Viltrumite other than Thragg to have a rank attached to him. As a General of the Viltrumite army, he definitely has an extensive body count and conquering accolades on his chest.
  • Really Gets Around: Takes Thragg’s order to heart later, he mates with dozens of human women, but he also adopts the new Viltrumite way, fully loving all the women he met and all the children he had; by his own words Kregg had no idea monogamy was mostly the standard on Earth.
  • Recurring Character: Is seen on-screen in most of all Viltrumite conflicts in the series, by virtue of keeping himself alive to the end of the series and beyond; other veteran Viltrumites who also live on don’t have as many appearances as him.
  • Sadistic Choice: After he confronts Nolan in Issue 46, he beats him around a little and gives Nolan bloody bruises on his face. He excused it by the fact that the council for their empire never mention bruises when keeping the Viltrumite soldier whole and intact before execution. He apparently took pleasure after pummeling Nolan.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When the Flaxans invade London, he defies Thragg's orders to not interfere and helps Earth's heroes because one of his human lovers carrying his child lives there.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He actually isn't that bad looking compared to the rest of his species. The eyepatch kind of helps in some way.

    Lucan

Lucan

A mild-mannered Viltrumite, even if capable of being just as barbaric as any other member of his race, sometimes he can be quite sensible.

  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He was able to survive getting gutted by Nolan, allowing Lucan to get the drop on him while the latter was exhausted and injured from fighting two of his teammates. Even though he collapses soon after, he was still able to recover from his wounds.
  • One True Love: Has the record of being the fastest converted Viltrumite in the series, having found true love on his first try with a woman he completely devotes himself to, adopting serious monogamous commitment despite Thragg’s direct orders for mass scale breeding, since she was hurt by her previous lover having an affair.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Defeats Nolan with a surprise attack before collapsing from his wounds.
  • Token Minority: While he isn’t the only black Viltrumite in the series, he is the only one with any plot significance, and a small one at that.

    Thula

Thula

A visually striking female Viltrumite, for she is quite unique in using her single-ended braid as a weapon, with a blade at the hair end.

  • Beast of Battle: In the final battle with Thragg, she uses her bladed hair braid to cut the leash of one of Thragg's Rognarrs before taking control of it and unleashing it upon Thragg's own forces.
  • Blade on a Rope: She has a blade at the end of her braid.
  • Improvised Weapon: Her own hair braids are like a chain.
  • Older Than She Looks: She is one of the older Viltrumites, much older than Nolan for comparison, with only her silver hair indicating that, meanwhile she is drawn with soft facial features like any other young woman in the series.
  • Silver Vixen: She appears to be a woman in her fifties thanks to her graying hair, but still pretty attractive.

    Spoiler Character

Thaedus

The first rebel who opposed the Viltrum Empire and secretly the founder and leader of the Coalition of Planets.

  • Beardness Protection Program: It looks like he has been wearing a fake beard to cover up his mustache, but the truth is that Thaedus uses his strength to rip out a very real beard in one piece to show his strength and durability, proving his Viltrumite heritage.
  • Defector from Decadence: Thaedus is disgusted by the ruthless and evil ways of his own people and chose to rebel against the Empire.
  • The Kingslayer: Thaedus is responsible for killing Emperor Argall, which led to the Viltrumite civil war and putting Thragg as Grand Regent.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: He's the first Viltrumite to be disgusted by how his people acts during their days as a ruthless empire and thus is also the first one to rebel. Although he takes it one step further by killing the Emperor of the Viltrumites.
  • Off with His Head!: How he meets his end, having his head torn off by Thragg during the war.
  • There Is Another: He saw himself as the only Viltrumite with the audacity to rebel against the Empire, believing himself to be an anomaly. However, it was not until he learned of Invincible that it could be possible to turn other Viltrumites to the Coalition's cause.
  • Unperson: Thragg erased Thaedus from Viltrumite history for his defection and his assassination of Argall. Then Thragg personally ends Thaedus' existence with his bare hands.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Thaedus is responsible for developing the Scourge virus that nearly wiped out the Viltrumites, and won't hesitate to use it again if the Coalition is close to losing the war.

    Ursaal

Ursaal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ursaal.jpg

Ursaal is the daughter of Thragg and an unnamed female Thraxan (Oliver's mother's species). She's Onaan's twin sister.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She has purplish skin because of her mother. By the last issue she becomes more human looking, much in the same way as Oliver did.
  • Angsty Surviving Twin: Ursaal and her twin brother Onaan weren't that close, and she admits that he was a psychotic monster. But she was still devastated after his death at Invincible's hands.
  • The Dragon: To her father, acting Co-Dragons with her brother until Onann's death. Her authority is enough to convince the rest of her siblings to stand down once it's clear that they're all are expendable in their father's eyes.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible to Onaan's Foolish, being far more level-headed than he is and admonishes him for needlessly slaughtering a planet.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Started as blindly obedient to her father, but turns against him after realizing he sees all of his children as being expendable. When Mark finally decides to liberate Earth from Robot's rule, Ursaal and her remaining siblings side with him without hesitation.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: Half-Viltrumite and half-Thraxan.
  • Photographic Memory: Ursaal remembers every moment of her life, all the way back to her birth.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Being Thragg's second-in-command, she is much more powerful than the rest of her siblings, being able to hold her own against Atom Eve (and defeat her) and General Kregg. This is likely due to Thragg actually investing some effort in training her.
  • Younger Than They Look: As a byproduct of her mother's species, she aged extremely rapidly.

    Onaan

Onaan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5904052_59_20.jpg

Onaan is the son of Thragg and an unnamed female Thraxan (Oliver's mother's species). He's Ursaal's twin brother.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: He has purplish skin because of his mother.
  • Asshole Victim: He is killed by Mark while completely helpless, but Eve doesn't mind since he put Terra's life in danger. Even Ursaal, despite mourning his death, thought he was a monster.
  • Ax-Crazy: Onaan was monstrous even by Viltrumite standards. He killed countless people across many worlds, he had a cave full of the corpses of his victims and was perfectly willing to murder entire families, even children.
  • Blood Knight: He's even more bloodthirsty than his father. During one of their conquests, he slaughters most of a planet's population while enjoying it.
  • The Dragon: To his father with his sister as Co-Dragons.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Not only did he want to kill Terra, he wanted to flay her and eat her skull just to make Mark suffer.
  • Implacable Man: It didn't matter what Mark and Terra did to flee from him, he just wouldn't stop pursuing them. That said, when Mark wasn't prioritizing Terra's safety, Onaan was helpless.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: He kept the remains of his victims in a cave to be alone.
  • Off with His Head!: Mark crushes his neck to a pulp, decapitating him.
  • Undying Loyalty: He is the most loyal and supportive of Thragg's children and idolizes him until the end.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When he attacked Mark and his family, he went straight towards Terra and raved on how he'd enjoy killing her. Fortunately, Mark fended him off and ultimately killed him.
