Boss Monsters

    Wolf King

Wolf King

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wolf_king_special.png
A dark latex wolf-like creature that serves as a boss in the game's Special Edition.
  • Badass Fingersnap: Can control the formation of his grey crystals and how much or little Colin gets assimilated with the snap of his fingers.
  • Benevolent Boss: Zigzagged. The Wolf King turns Colin into a People Puppet if he touches one of crystals for trying to escape. Should Colin prove worthy prey and get 'transfurred' by his latex containers, the King welcomes the former-human into his pack.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: He (and Dr. K) watches Colin's progress through the offices via the security cameras.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Demonstrates an unparalleled level of control over the transfurmation process whenever Colin touches one of his grey crystals or gets splashed with latex from a falling glass tube.
  • Bullet Hell: A variant. He forces Colin to dodge his mutagenic crystals which get progressively faster after every round.
  • Chair Reveal: How he makes his introduction, and remains seated as he engages his Gemstone Assault upon Colin. The Wolf King upon defeat, unconsciously swivels facing away again from the protagonist.
  • Death from Above: The second and third phases of his battle involve not only dodging his crystal attacks but also keeping a wary eye out for glass tubes containing dark-latex goo hovering above, that'll fall on Colin.
  • Failed a Spot Check: To slip past his dark-latex wolf minions, Colin can wear a badly-made disguise Puro prepared for him. It fools all the goo monsters present, except for the Wolf King, who continues his Sinister Surveillance.
  • Gemstone Assault: The leader of the wolves is on the constant offensive, summoning wave after wave of grey crystal attacks that in the final phase allow no room for hesitation.
  • Hive King: Controls all the dark-latex wolves guarding the offices for intruders, and has several minions in the security room barring your escape.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Wolf King gets knocked out by one of his own glass tubes he tries to drop on you. His minions can only look on with embarrassment.
  • Howl of Sorrow: His wolf minions and he howl whenever Colin thwarts his attempts to transfur him.
  • I Love You, Vampire Son: Downplayed. If one of his tubes falls on and transfurs Colin, the transfur screen depicts the Wolf King gently inspecting the former human, presumably seeing if he's alright, though no romantic actions ensue.
  • It Can Think: Puro's notes warn you in advance not to bother wearing his disguise as the Wolf King being a former human would not be fooled.
  • Keystone Army: When he gets knocked out by his own latex container he tried to drop on Colin, his wolf minions without orders, can only look on sheepishly and don't try to assimilate Colin.
  • Make an Example of Them: After evading his minions, initially, Wolf King uses his powers over the dark-latex crystal goo to keep transfurring Colin from beast to human, and back again, just for his court's amusement.
  • Single Substance Manipulation: Wolf King has complete mastery over dark-latex matter, able to make it move like an extension of his being so it behaves like the light-latex goo to engulf Colin or turn him into a People Puppet.
  • Was Once a Man: Judging by their big swivel office chair and many camera monitors, they were once the head of security at the research centre, before the latex beasts escaped containment. They still retain enough sapience to know how to work them.

A very large dark-latex, dragon-like being. He is one of the boss-like creatures the player encounters. The Elder One can be found in The Nest.

    Behemoth

The Behemoth, also sometimes referred to as 'the Giant', is an enormous Light/White latex boss-enemy appearing in the game's Special Edition, located at the end of the Greenhouse area. Created by Dr. K just before the fight as a means to obstruct Colin's escape from the tower. Behemoth is made up of massive amounts of white latex goo, hundreds of beasts all coalesced together to think and move as one.
  • Asteroids Monster: Averted when defeated, as the giant breaks down into a group of tiny wolf-like creatures that follow you around everywhere, but are harmless.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: They are gigantic, and could potentially get even larger but are restricted to the confines of the Greenhouse which has drain holes throughout, preventing them from getting any larger and overwhelming the area.
  • Big Fun: The Behemoth's clearly wrestling with the impulse to absorb Colin, and discovering their newfound powers, splashing around the room with several latex wolves forming tsunamis of their own. The Giant seems playful and doesn't care for Puro's attempts to distract them with books which they find confusing.
  • Body of Bodies: They are hundreds of beasts all merged together. When Prototype's battery discharges into them enough times, the shock disperses them. But as Behemoth is Made of Indestructium they quickly reform their giant body, to continue charging at Colin.
  • Bullfight Boss: Colin must lure the Behemoth's fists into punching Prototype to buy time until Puro can arrive. Once baited downwards until they line up with the helpful robot horizontally, the man can quickly hide behind Prototype for extra safety.
  • Death from Above: As Behemoth takes up the entire room dodging them is made more difficult when they slam their fists or thighs, causing latex blobs to rain down on Colin.
  • Down the Drain: How they're defeated. Puro uses his own goo body to jam up the pipe supplying the white latex. The flow halted, the mass of creatures drain out of the room into the lower levels of the complex.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: Behemoth's hands will slowly follow the protagonist, but often clench a few times before gaining a sudden burst of speed to transfur you with. Likewise the player needs to take care whenever they slam the ground, as it causes white latex blobs to randomly fall from the ceiling.
  • Grey Goo: In the Special Edition many sleeping Behemoths are encountered later in the white latex jungle area, an Eldritch Location, where so much of the light-latex has congregated without human hosts to stabilize them, they're a sprawling malformation all overlapping each other. Puro fears waking them up, as one swipe from a single giant would shatter his crystal mask. The Behemoths do wake up, thanks to Feng Yu roaring loudly as they chase after a fleeing Colin. Enraged they send waves of white-latex beasts to catch the man as well.
  • He Was Right There All Along: Colin mistakes Dr. K's latest Fed to the Beast scheme to be a laughable failure, as nothing more than a latex "living milk pudding" emerges; the first hazard the player encountered upon awakening. Behemoth then manifests, and Colin realizes he's standing in a literal boss room.
  • Just Eat Him: Annoyed that Prototype is stopping it from reaching you, the monster grabs and swallows up the Robot Maid. Even when the helpful bot starts electroshocking from inside, it still refuses to give up.
  • Making a Splash: After immobilizing Prototype, they realize they are truly invincible, and start to revel in their power. Behemoth starts splashing around the Greenhouse creating tsunamis of latex. It isn't hard to avoid their attacks, so long as the player keeps moving.
  • Many Spirits Inside of One: Dr. K observes that when the number of white latex beasts present in one area reaches a critical mass, they will fuse together, becoming an enormous goo animal aggregation. They all have a shared mind and incredible power.
  • Mighty Glacier: The doctor notes their huge form is 'almost perfect', and they sometimes telegraph their attacks, meaning a consequence of so many creatures moving and acting as one, is a delayed reaction time.
  • Murderous Thighs: More transfurring than outright murderous, Colin straying between them makes the Behemoth slam them together to capture him.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: After defeat, they leave behind a residue of multiple harmless tiny wolf-like creatures that follow Colin around everywhere.
  • Right Behind Me: A good strategy to survive the giant is to run behind their huge head. It doesn't fool them, but it does buy Colin precious time to allow Prototype to recharge and render assistance.
  • Stationary Boss: Overlaps with Living Structure Monster, since Behemoth takes up the room, but is not stable enough to form a fully autonomous body outside the white-latex spillage. Even if they were able to, the Greenhouse isn't large enough to accommodate such a gigantic monster.
  • Super-Toughness: Showcases the latex beast's invulnerability, the Behemoth will get repeatedly electrocuted if they punch Prototype yet refuse to give Colin up.
  • Swallowed Whole: All latex beasts engulf their prey as the fastest means of 'transfurmation', but Behemoth is so massive they gulp down Colin if he strays near their mouth.

    Hyena

Hyena

Click here to see Hyena's children
Click here to see Hyena adopting Colin.
A variegated-latex creature, the Hyena is a secret boss. Her den is in a hidden room before the flooded basements in the game's Special Edition.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: After her defeat she's friendly if Colin returns to her den. If he sits on the cushion bed with her family, she'll smile at him, before stroking and patting Colin's hair.
  • Apathetic Citizens: Subverted. Even though he's already proven that he's friendly, and means no harm to them, Hyena and her children do nothing to help Colin when he has one of her pets on him. The way they see it, if he wants to mess around and make himself into a Human Pet, then so be it. The child that shakes its behind at Colin, does react with shock if he runs up to them in distress.
  • Baby Be Mine: Hyena has no hesitation in trying to turn Colin into one of her children when she sees him. She also has four other children, implying that her assault on Colin isn't the first time she's forcibly made someone into one of her children. Luckily for her, Colin is content in becoming her child without her having to inflict the Death of Personality she gave to the other fournote .
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: The Hyena's not just humanoid but also huge, nothing like the real-life animal, standing over the human by some twenty feet.
  • Creator Cameo: The Hyena child that sits upright and watches Colin is the fursona of "Kasami Dunk", one of the game's programming aids.
  • Giant Woman: She's a huge variegated-latex beast that is at least twenty feet tall, and while Behemoth is bigger, she's the largest singular latex land creature seen in the game as the former is a Body of Bodies.
  • Gigantic Adults, Tiny Babies: All four of her children are all around the same size as a normal person. Hyena herself is a Giant Woman who's about thrice-fourice Colin's height.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: All her children have scars across one of their eyes. When Colin's left arm is scratched up by her, it's still visible after he's 'transfurred' into her newest child. Hyena herself has one across her left eye. This heavily implies the hyena goo monsters can't infect a host without spreading through cuts or grazes. This means the huge monster herself isn't the Monster Progenitor of this latex batch. Confirmed by Word of God, Hyena is a former human.
  • Happily Adopted: If she successfully scratches up Colin's arm, the human 'transfurs' into one of her children, albeit with wilder fluffier hair. She's last seen affectionately stroking and petting his head, much to the former-human's delight.
  • The Klutz: In spite of being so big and agile, it's still possible for Colin to outwit and escape her. The human can trip the tall charging latex monster up using nearby vines. Hyena loses her balance, before realizing her error, then crashing into the water as her children look on embarrassed.
  • Lightning Bruiser: For someone so huge, she's very fast, her latex-hardened claws can actually cut through skin, resulting in a 'transfurmation'. Colin can only hope to dodge her progressively-faster horizontal Dash Attack by constantly moving vertically.
  • Mama Bear: Her immediate response to Colin intruding on her family resting, is attacking him with an endless bout of Dash Attacks.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: She has four children she all seems overly-protective of, and is more than willing to turn Colin into her fifth one.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: She's just an overprotective mother of her four hyena-like children and doesn't hunt after Colin like all the other latex beasts do. When defeated, Hyena looks embarrassed she lost to a human, and feeling remorse for overreacting since Colin is obviously no threat to her family. If he returns to her den again, she's docile, patting Colin's hair and makes no attempt to 'transfur' him.
  • Optional Boss: Puro tries to prevent Colin from entering her den via the concealed door, and can only be encountered if Colin chooses to backtrack to the vents.
  • Rush Boss: Either you take out Hyena quickly, or she will quickly take you out.
  • Shaking the Rump: Amusingly, one of her children shakes theirs at Colin incessantly, obviously annoying him into potentially spanking them if he chooses to return to the den.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: All of her children have the exact same colour eyes, the same hairstyle, the same fur pattern, the same tail shape, the same hair colour, and even the same hair accent colour.
  • Trip Trap: The only way to stop her charging is to trip her up on vines, which Colin needs to quickly tie up three times to make Hyena lose her balance.

Tiger Shark and Squid Dog

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squid_dog_special.png
Two latex aquatic creatures Colin encounters while traversing the tank rooms and flooded basements to restore power from the generator. Tiger Shark is a variegated humanoid combination between a shark and a tiger, whereas Squid Dog is an evolved transfusion between a light-latex wolf and a squid-like boss-type enemy.
  • Animal Jingoism: Even though both are light-latex creatures, the squid and shark species are competing against each other for dominance of the aquatic areas of the complex.
  • Badass Fingersnap: Squid Dog does this whenever their tentacles are about to swoop in to catch you.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Tiger Shark's longing for companionship later ends up getting him ensnared in the clutches of Squid Dog and is seen twice afterward wrapped up in his tentacles as the creature now plays with him.
  • Chasing Your Tail: Squid Dog's tentacles will chase you around the room forever, until you start making the monster smack himself while trying to catch you.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: In his final appearance, Tiger Shark's trapped in Squid Dog's grasp, and he can do nothing more except spectate.
  • Combat Tentacles: Against Squid Dog, Colin's impeded by shallow and deep water. The monster's many tentacles often move too fast to dodge. To escape he has keep moving, putting as much distance between them as possible.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: If Puro and Colin are fully-befriended, both Tiger Shark and Squid Dog (among other aquatic latex creatures) are last seen waving goodbye to the deuteragonists, and don't hunt them anymore.
  • Flunky Boss: Tiger Shark sends one of his minions at a time to chase Colin after every roar. In the original game, he has to keep dodging them and their leader. In the Special Edition however, Difficulty by Acceleration is in play, so his minions need to be knocked out by luring them to collide into floating oxygen canisters, before Tiger Shark gives chase. Worse still, you can accidentally despawn those needed cylinders by bumping into them. Finally, when the boss roars the third time to summon his sharks guarding the exits - you've got to escape that room quickly.
  • Giant Squid: Squid Dog is among many white latex pups that had evolved to be more agile in water-abundant environments.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: You can get Tiger Shark stuck on the garbage pile in the bottom-left corner of his boss room. Handy for putting distance between you during his first round of Stealth Hi/Bye, but not recommended during his final phase.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Downplayed in the Special Edition but in the original game Tiger Shark's a very lonely latex monster, as he only attacks and (if he succeeds) transfurs Colin to have someone to play with, as seen in the aftermath. He sends hordes of regular shark-like creatures to prevent Colin from leaving.
  • Improvised Armour: When taken enough punishment the Squid Pups rip the door panels off in the Special Edition and use them as a shield to protect Squid Dog.
  • Interface Screw: The Squid Pups that surround the boss arena in the Special Edition often throw their ink latex at the screen, partially blocking your view of Squid Dog's attacking tentacles, until it drips away.
  • Kiss of Death: If Colin falls into deep water Tiger Shark caressingly forces a transfurmation upon him. The alternative would be to watch the guy drown.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: In the original game, Squid Dog was That One Boss as his tentacles mercilessly pursued Colin around the narrow arena. The fight only became more manageable after Stop Hitting Yourself makes them despawn one-by-one. In the Special Edition this difficulty has been adjusted so his tentacles reset their positions and you don't get cornered, though Tiger Shark has become far more dangerous in this updated version.
  • Shark Fin of Doom: Tiger Shark sends three waves of attacks by summoning lines of increasing shark-like monsters to swoop the pool from both sides. They don't home in, but Colin has to dodge these roaming beasts or get 'transfured' if they collide. When Tiger Shark is pursuing you, he's essentially playing a game of underwater Snake with you. As he moves in faster bursts of speed than you, you got to weave across the flooded area to stay one-step ahead. Try to cross paths to avoid getting cornered, and it's game over. Eventually he'll change strategies and all will chase after Colin.
  • Shark Man: Once a caretaker for looking after the experiments in the feeding ponds, now absorbed and transfured into a humanoid creature. In the original game he retains enough self-awareness to know the other shark-like entities make poor playmates, and longs for the day another human will venture into the basements.
  • Shark Tunnel: If Colin returns to the tank rooms they'll see all the marine latex life on display playing with each other with Squid Dog still pulling Tiger Shark along for the ride.
  • Skippable Boss: In the original game you can slip past Tiger Shark's lackeys guarding the exits easily, providing you time it right. Subverted in the Special Edition where it's almost impossible to pull this trick off, without using Bullet Time.
  • Sore Loser: The Tiger Shark is implied to be one, as lingering in his room for too long after defeating him will result in a shark flying through the air and transfurring Colin, when the only one present who would have been strong enough to throw the shark is the Tiger Shark.
  • Stationary Boss: Squid Dog's main body, holding Tiger Shark in his clutches, idles in the middle of the room. It's his free-moving tentacles that try to ensnare Colin.
  • Terrestrial Sea Life: Averted. Puro notices that despite having limbs, these marine latex beasts all have an aversion for going on land. They won't go after Colin beyond their natural habitat, so their mooks prevent him from escaping.
  • Tentacled Terror: Squid Dog has many tentacles to grab and assimilate with. To survive Colin has to use their attacks against them.
  • Threatening Shark: Tiger Shark is far more formidable in the Special Edition remake, than in the original game. Even though Colin can cheese the first-wave of his attacks by staying in the bottom-right corner of the room, the monster begins a round of Stealth Hi/Bye appearing right in front of where you're going. To outlast this you must not change the direction you're wading towards, until you get the second visual splash cue. Time it poorly, and Tiger Shark will catch you instantly.
  • Villainous Crush: You will notice in the Special Edition that Tiger Shark is stalking Colin as soon as he enters the flooded generator area. The enamoured Squid Dog is also very attached to Tiger Shark and refuses to let him go.
  • Was Once a Man: Tiger Shark was once employed by the scientists to be the aquatic latex beast's caretaker and would feed them regularly, until one day he got too close and a shark-like creature assimilated him.

    The Squid Pups

The Squid Pups

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squid_pup_pirates_1.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squid_pup_pirates_2.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squid_pup_pirates_3.png
A group of light-latex juvenile Squid Dogs. These boss-enemies obstruct Colin as he encounters them within the aquatic area of the game's Special Edition.
  • Adults Are Useless: The large female Squid Dog supervises the little Squid Pups having fun for the majority of the battle. She only gets involved towards the end, before abandoning the juveniles, after taking merely one hit from a Gas-Cylinder Rocket.
  • Advancing Boss of Doom: Their battle's final phase has the pups drag their sinking ship towards Colin, who needs to bait the squid creatures riding on Gas cylinders into the path of his own. A good strategy is to save the larger explosive cylinder for a Last Ditch Move. Using it too early, will net you a Slap-on-the-Wrist Nuke, disarming yourself as they trap you.
  • Airborne Mook: Their seagull latex creature often swoops in without warning, to steal Colin's pants. You need to dodge it, because while it can't 'transfur' the human, it does immobilize him until the option to "struggle!" is spammed. Getting halted by this thing when surrounded by enough Squid Pups means certain doom.
  • Big Fun: The monster's newly acquired intelligence is coming into conflict with their basic instincts, bordering on the Chaotic Stupid. The Squid Pups have unnecessarily gone to great effort to replicate a scene almost out of a pirate movie. Complete with rain, waves, music, and storm sound effects.
  • Gas-Cylinder Rocket: Catching onto the fact that Puro is helping Colin, they change tactics and try to propel themselves on their own gas cylinders to catch the human.
  • Going Down with the Ship: They all comedically sink once they sustain enough projectile damage from Puro's barrage of Gas Cylinder Rockets.
  • Goo It Up: Colin's sorely mistaken if he thinks he can just bypass their slow-moving ship. Their leader will form and shoot a large blob of ink at him, triggering a transfurmation. Likewise, the adult female Squid Dog appears and shoots globules of ink that home-in on Colin and she needs to be taken out fast.
  • Improvised Sail: The Squid Pup latex beasts in a bid to capture Colin, have put together their own makeshift pirate ship out of garbage and crates.
  • It Can Think: They have the cognitive faculties to build and maintain their own Improvised Sail, presumably to scare and intimidate Colin.
  • Living Figurehead: The Squid Pups have forced a confused and scared Shark-like latex monster to act as the figurehead of their surreal ship. When the ship goes down, at the last moment it seems their Shark escaped, but the sinking Squid Pups drag him down with them.
  • Mercy Invincibility: The little ones riding small boats require two gas cylinders to stop. Impatiently firing them both at once while its vessel is sinking means wasting a Gas-Cylinder Rocket attack, and might just spell defeat if the pup's close-by.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: The large female Squid Dog has breasts despite being mostly a squid. Downplayed however, as she is a Mix-and-Match Critter of a squid and a dog, which is a mammal.
  • Press X to Not Die: The seagull latex creature will often swoop in, trying to steal Colin's pants, forcing you to spam the "struggle!" option to break free.
  • Shield-Bearing Mook: Some goo creatures hide in laundry chests as they float towards Colin. They are impervious to Gas-Cylinder Rocket attack. To foil them, Colin must get close to lure it into exposing itself by opening the box's lid.
  • Stealthy Cephalopod: Several enemies will hide below the water's surface or use Chameleon Camouflage to sneak up on Colin, if he doesn't spot the visual cues they will assimilate him.
  • Zerg Rush: They attack in waves so to survive Colin needs to wisely choose which Gas-Cylinder Rocket to fire off first, and save the larger explosive cylinder as a last resort, to avoid a Slap-on-the-Wrist Nuke scenario.

Click here to see Colin's transfurmation.
A group of variegated-latex Rock Monster-like mimic creatures that are mimicking gargoyles with a Chess Motif. All serve under one ruler, their King, who gives them orders to capture Colin. They are encountered in a hidden area after the Testing rooms of Doctor K's laboratory, in the game's Special Edition.
  • And I Must Scream: When either the King or her minions capture Colin she assimilates him into her own throne which she sits upon with glee. As before, all gargoyle "transfurmations" happen without any Death of Personality, leaving the man a rigid ossified latex beast, with a permanent horrified expression. Several hands forming from her hair cover his eyes. The real kicker is Colin was desperate to escape K's clutches to rescue Puro, and has to live with the shame he failed his Only Friend in his hour of need.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: The Pawns become Queens when they reach the bottom row of the board. When all the other Chess Gargoyles have been knocked out, the Queen that carries her King likewise combines forces and their powers together to catch Colin.
  • Book Worm: The Bishops enjoy reading books almost as much as Puro does. Colin notes after the King and her court are defeated, the wolf monster would love several of these titles (though some of the pictures within are too fantastical to be historically accurate). The man is then amazed by the latex goos intelligence - if given enough time, the mimic-type monsters will eventually imitate the entire course of human history, all because they want to.
  • Boss-Arena Idiocy: To defeat the King and her court, Colin must use their movement patterns against them by tricking them into falling off the arena.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: The Pawns are potentially the most dangerous monsters in the whole boss fight, because of what they can transform into. They have to be dealt with fast. Colin cannot hope to survive against up to three Queens trying to catch him (and a Knight if he takes too long) all at once.
  • Field Promotion: The Pawns imitate the rules of Chess more closely than their peers, and when they reach the bottom of the checkered-floor room, they don't fall off, but instead become Queens.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: The Queens are extremely dangerous, and can end the fight before it even begins if you allow them to. When the Pawns undergo Mook Promotion, they'll transform into huge females with Jiggle Physics breasts and stomp across the board with lightning-fast speed (second only to Hyena). They are so huge, that their wingspan can obscure other monsters summoned by the King. Trying to lure them in a straight-line is incredibly risky due to their speed. The safest method is to never stray on the outer-most rows of the board, as you'll be directly in harm's way once they transform, and stay down near the bottom to bait them into flying off the ledge diagonally.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: The only way Colin can defeat these indestructible latex beasts, is to exploit their basic movement rules, to lure them off the end of the board, where they hover momentarily above the void before falling.
  • Highly Specific Counterplay: The King will cheat and perform the special castling move to escape an early-defeat. She floats back to the board and in conjunction with her last remaining Rook, moves and crosses over positions with her minion. You need to get rid of the Rook fast before turning your attention back to the King and Queen - all three attacking at once will eventually corner you.
  • Kissing Discretion Shot: Like the monster encountered after the Aquatic area, when a Queen catches Colin in her vice-like grip, she'll cover him under her wings and starts smooching him. Colin does not enjoy it, especially not when the King's Queen absorbs him as the latex monarch mocks and teases his suffering this very sticky fate.
  • Living Statue: All mimic-type latex goos are imitating gargoyles, while following the rules of Chess. The King and her court got the idea from reading books with pictures that showed kingdoms from fantasy and legend.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Every beast follows their own movement rules, but it goes into Stupidity Is the Only Option as they throw themselves off the room's ledge in trying to capture Colin. The King is the most unorthodox as she combines her powers with the Queen.
  • Mighty Glacier: The Rook Gargoyle slides across the floor after the human. He's not as fast as the other monsters, but can be threatening if other chess beasts are in play simultaneously. Colin has to time tricking it to slide off the board just right. Moving preemptively out of harm's way will cause the Rock Monster to suddenly grind to a halt, either wasting time, or making it more dangerous to defeat.
  • The Napoleon: The King who commands dozens of latex Rock Monster is the shortest goo beast among them. By herself, she's also the weakest as the King cannot move more than one space in any direction per turn. She cheats however, to avoid a stalemate, and combines her powers with her Queen.
  • Oh, Crap!: Both the King and her Queen amusingly panic if Colin baits them into bouncing off the edge of the board, and when defeated, they comedically hover in the air for a second or two before falling.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Apart from issuing orders, the King does nothing for the majority of the boss fight, only getting physically involved once you've defeated all her subjects. She then proves she is a capable ruler as she's a very dangerous monster together with her Queen as they chase you round the room.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: The Knight, like its namesake from the game, chases after the human by moving in an "L" pattern (two squares horizontally then one square vertically, or moving one square horizontally then two squares vertically). It is not obstructed by any other monster on the board. If the beast jumps on you, half its body will absorb you, leaving the human and the gargoyle two seperate bipedal creatures instead of merging together. Justified, as the King wants Colin to fit into her throne and the centaur latex goo would be too huge. As it's so big, it can be tricky to spot which square it's landing on. Fortunately, if you stay down near the bottom of the board, an easy way to deal with the Knight charging at you, is to always stay on the same vertical row as him. This makes it impossible for the Knight to easily pounce on you, and more straightforward into luring off the room's edge.
  • The Pawns Go First: Subverted. The King commands her Pawn gargoyles to make the first, and penultimate attack, of her forces. Not all eight monsters attack at once. They move slowly, at one space at a time, and can only try to capture Colin if he's standing one square diagonally ahead of them. They only move quicker when attacking. If he stands directly in front of them, they can't move. They should not be underestimated. Taking too long to defeat them summons more beasts. Due to Field Promotion they can be the most formidable enemies in the boss battle, if you're not careful. When two or three Pawns attack at once, you need to pray for good luck - if they are bunched up on the edge of the board, as Queens they won't fall off the bottom row's ledge as they instead fly around from corner-to-corner of the room at speed. If they are too evenly-spaced out when they appear, you have to quickly try to lure them to bunch up together in the middle or near-middle, otherwise almost nowhere is safe on the board once they become Lightning Bruiser Queens.
  • Power Floats: To defeat the King and Queen, you must lure them down near the bottom and make them diagonally bounce off the walls into the void below. The King will attempt to recover, using her one-space-per-turn move to return. You have to make them bounce off the near bottommost row's walls, this pushes her so far out into the gap, they cannot recover.
  • Throne Made of X: The King's throne is actually made from her own latex hair. She intends to trap Colin forever in it, as decoration, if he's captured by her.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: When all but one of her minions are defeated, the King decides to go all-or-nothing, getting involved personally to catch Colin, and combines forces with her Queen.
  • Screw the Rules, They're Not Real!: As you'll discover in the last-phase of the boss fight, the King bends, then breaks the rules just when you're about to win. She's already joined forces with her Queen, allowing her to take two turns. She then floats back to the floor when about to fall off the first time, and performs a Castling move with her other Rook, which is an illegal move, because she already left her starting square.
  • She Is the King: The King who rules over all gargoyle beasts is a short female with large breasts, and long hair.
  • Taken for Granite: If any of the creatures successfully capture Colin, he 'transfurs' into a part of their Living Statue form. Horrifyingly, he doesn't suffer the Death of Personality most transfurs result in, and is trapped petrified forever in their inescapable embrace as the King restrains him on her throne. The transfurmations are identical to the two seen earlier outside the Aquatic area (with the exception of the Knight).
  • Variant Chess: The King commands her minions to play a strange game of Chess against Colin, which acts and plays out more like a surreal game of Human Chess, but with latex gargoyles that cannot be defeated unless they fall off the bottom-most row edge.
  • Zerg Rush: The monsters come at Colin in waves, if he takes too long in getting rid of the Pawns/Queens, more beasts will show up from the top of the room, and his survival chances will greatly diminish as nowhere on the board is safe anymore.
