There are conflicting posts and arguments about the Ultra Necrozma boss fight on the main page, particularly:

  • Best Boss Ever: Ultra Necrozma, is the Climax Boss for the games and is quite possibly considered one of the best boss fights in the franchise! It features Awesome Music that straight up sounds like a classic JRPG final boss theme, it's a very difficult fight and incredibly high tension with the end of the universe and you're fighting against a Physical God with all stats up due to a Totem boost. It's difficulty isn't completely cheap, and is actually earned unlike some past boss fights in the series. It's also considered a step up from the fact that you can't actually fight Motherbeast Lusamine in the last game.

So what should we do? Are these just overblown complaints from a Vocal Minority (as is common with this franchise), or is the fight genuinely too divisive to qualify as a Best Boss Ever?

I believe the entry should be kept regardless of divisiveness. While there are some fans who don't like the fight against Ultra Necrozma, there are also many fans who do like the fight and people can have different opinions. Though the second paragraph should be deleted due to it being improperly indented natter that is redundant with the Broken Base entry on the fight that's already on the page.

I also argue that it would be kept-heck, even shorten the bottom part to something amongst the lines of " there is some divisiveness in this regard, as shown under Broken Base and Base-Breaking Character", because the complaints 1) come from a very Vocal Minority 2) Even within that minority a good few agree that it worked for story reasons, this one time, and just say they don't want to see more boss battles like these.

Based in their description, this is not actually divisive. In this case, remove the Broken Base and Base-Breaking Character examples sounds as a good idea.

Ghetsis is here.... Is it time that he finally challenges the permalock on his Complete Monster status?

Spoilers for what his role consists of: the Ghetsis in this game is from a reality in which he succeeded in his initial plan but was brought into this game's reality by Giovanni to be part of Team Rainbow Rocket. Though he The Dragon for Giovanni, Ghetsis has come to rationalize that the reason he was brought from his reality to this reality was so that he could use his perchance for exploitation and skillful manipulations to usurp control of Team Rainbow Rocket for himself and then, using Giovanni as his new "king" in N's place, along with all of the Aether Foundation's resources and an army of Ultra Beasts at Team Rainbow Rocket's disposal for good measure, he can travel between worlds pulling his Pokemon Liberation crusade con on all the worlds so that all trainers and all Pokemon in all realities are separated from each other, and as a result, Ghetsis can consolidate more power for himself and dominate all the worlds as he pleases. In his own words, if he can make good use of Giovanni as his pawn, he could reign supreme above all of existence. Above all of existence. This is fully crossing into A God Am I territory. He's seen a way in which he can become supreme god emperor of the entire multiverse, so he's going to jump at that opportunity and make the best use of all the pawns, Pokemon, and resources at his disposal in order to realize his twisted ambitions. Then after losing to the Player Character and undergoing his traditional This Cannot Be! Villainous Breakdown, Ghetsis, refusing to accept his defeat and let the PC and Lillie go ahead to face Giovanni, rushes over to Lillie and physically strikes her down onto the floor, telling the PC "if you value this girls life, then throw down your Poke'Balls!". If the PC says no, Ghetsis scowls "Then you leave me no choice, the girl must...". Yeah, he says in no uncertain terms that he's going to murder Lillie if the PC doesn't surrender to him. He's very explicit in his threat, and this murder attempt differs from his prior ones due to not only him physically assaulting Lillie by backhanding her beforehand, but there's no way he's going to kill her with his Pokemon since they've all just been KO'D - he's going to murder the girl by his own bare hand. Yet again Ghetsis shows that he has no compunction doing things that other villains in this setting do not and would not typically do, crossing lines that other villains don't cross. He has no standards whatsoever since he'd do anything if the results greatly serviced him and furthered his selfish, power-grabbing schemes, goals, and ambitions. On top of that, Ghetsis is shown to be the single villain in this game devoid of any redeeming qualities or mitigating factors to his villainy, and the ONLY boss among them all to not accept defeat and step aside after losing a battle to The Hero, AND the only one to resort to physical assault and threatening child murder in order to get his way (a show of cruelty that even Lusamine would find totally out of line). As such, he has to be sent back to his own dimension by force through Colress' machine rather than leaving voluntarily. Had this not happened, he would have kept on going with his crimes until he got what he desired. As Colress puts it, Ghetsis is a man with power to match his ambitions, and this makes him a dangerous individual not to be taken lightly.

So with Ghetsis setting himself apart from all the other bosses and standing out relative to all the other villains in the core game serious due to how self-serving, exploitative, sadistic, abusive, deranged, dangerous, and utterly wicked a person he continuously proves himself to be, I'd say, personally, that I feel he's definitely the closest thing to a Complete Monster as the games have got in terms of character. However, do not for a second think this means his permablock will be undone, because his deeds in all three of the games he's featured in still come up pretty short compared to how much more heinous he could've been. Even in this game, he states his means to his depraved end goal would be just to pull the same "release all Pokemon" scam he pulled before but with Giovanni in place of N, which is rather underwhelming, and threatening to murder a child, while horrible, certainly isn't unique to him since Lysandre and Lusamine have been homicidal towards children as well, with Lusamine trying to kill her own daughter in Sun and Moon. He might be definitively over the baseline now in terms of goals and deeds, and his characterization is absolutely in line with the trope without a doubt, but if his crimes don't quite go the extra mile in their nature, effects and consequences that would be needed to make him a qualifier in spite of the more destructive Omnicidal Maniac villains that he shares a setting with, then he can't fit the trope 100%. It's a verdict that I'll never be fully in agreement with but oh well, there's still his manga incarnation.

When that day comes, we'll see how it goes. I'm just putting it out here ahead of time that I feel nobody counts in this game, with only Ghetsis getting anywhere close to the trope's proximity, ironic as that might be.

Did anyone else feel screwed over by the hiker in the Tapu Village pokémon center? I was thinking since he won't trade you back your newly evolved trevanant after he trades phantumps with you so that they would both evolve, that he would qualify as a scrappy.

Not really, and I don't think many people like they were screwed over. That's how pretty much all in-game trades ever have worked. Plus the trade results in you getting a trade evolution either way, which is almost impossible to get if you don't have friends or use the shoddy GTS.

CloverGoldngreen Since: Jan, 2011

This isn't a normal in-game trade though. This is a trade solely for the purpose of making a pokemon evolve. Who does evolution trades with the intent of keeping the pokemon they received from the other trainer?

I've been hearing rumours that the Ultra Recon Squad has access to the opposite version's legendary from the get go but it isn't mentioned until after Necrozma kidnaps Nebby, conveniently right before you need to go into Ultra Space for the first time. Is this true, and if so would it fall under Ass Pull even though they seem to have been going back and forth between Megaopolis and Alola through the course of the main story?

I'd vote no. There is actually a brief mention of it. The following conversation, quoting directly from Ultra Moon, happens shortly after fighting Lusamine at Aether Paradise.

Phyco: "In truth, we are not strong. We have not needed to be. We use technology to resolve any problem that arises in our lives. That is why we had discussed finding some human we could send through to our world to battle with Pokemon on our behalf." Gladion: "What was that you just said?! You said you were going to send someone back to your world? Do you know some other way to open an Ultra Wormhole?!" Phyco: "The altar on Poni... The Pokemon that appears there is known as the beast that calls the moon." Soliera: "We borrowed such a brute's power ourselves to come here to Alola."

I'll admit that they're pretty vague on the details, but even vague foreshadowing is still foreshadowing.

I would like to ask if the lack of any significant changes (or any changes) to the Festival Plaza would be a candidate for It's the Same, Now It Sucks! or possibly Scrappy Mechanic.

It's the Same, Now It Sucks! might fit better? The services and items offered are practically the same as they were in SM, i.e. most facilities still have the same problem as coming in more varieties than but each offering less services than their Join Avenue equivalents, on top of most of the good services still being locked until the game is beaten.

On the subject of Scrappy Mechanic, the Battle Agency seems to be pretty unpopular. People are saying that it's a half-arsed version of the Battle Factory because the rental system isn't truly random like the Factory's was. When you and your opponents rank up, your partners don't unless they do as well in their own games, and you're stuck with the same team and opponents until you win a fight.

Also, I've been hearing rumours that the game does something to your partners if you don't go online or connect for over a day, akin to what happens with the FC payouts for NPC requests.

  • Moral Event Horizon: We don't see it, but this version of Lysandre crossed it when he used either Xerneas or Yveltal to activate the Ultimate Weapon and kill everyone in his universe except for himself and Team Flare. In other words, he destroyed his universe. Every single character we know from Pokémon X and Y, all Pokémon from the cute ones like Flabébé, to powerful Mythical Pokémon like Volcanion, and even the god-like Pokémon all the way to Arceus. They're all dead because of one madman!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Lysandre said anything like this. He was aiming to destroy most life on Earth, not destroy the universe. The person who wrote this entry might have gotten him mixed up with Cyrus. Lysandre crossing the MEH by succeeding in his plan is still valid, but the entry ought to be re-written, also mentioning that he intended on doing the same to the world the game is set in, opposite of Cyrus who sincerely gives his word to leave this reality alone.

Ghetsis threatening to murder Lillie also ought to be cited. And while on the subject of the Moral Event Horizon, I'm still not convinced that Lusamine didn't cross it in Sun and Moon by nearly killing Nebby in order to open up Ultra Wormholes all over Alola and risk great damage done by Ultra Beasts. Her intoxicated state of mind is not the same as being brainwashed, and being left with the possibility of recovery in the end doesn't negate that she crossed a line in her actions. (In contrast with these games, where her torturing to near death of Nebby is done in a less cruel manner and done to open a single Wormhole for her and Guzma to go through and face Necrozma to save Alola.)

When the game comes out, what should be the deal with Broken Base and Base-Breaking Character - should examples be put into the regular YMMV page or under their own section in the Sun and Moon Broken Base page akin to how the game's And The Fandom Rejoiced page caters to both sets of Gen VII games?

On the subject of Base Breaking Characters, Dusk Lycanroc. Would it fit better under BBC or The Scrappy? Ever since its reveal, I've hardly seen anybody show praise for it outside for having Accelrock and Tough Claws, and more often seen it getting criticised for its design, being the first event-exclusive evolution, and as of the full game leaks its near identical movepool and statspread to Midday.

With the new trailers and the announcement of an actual Pokemon Switch Game, maybe now we could unblock this page. I mean, we now have enough stuff to fill in both Author's Saving Throw and Win Back the Crowd.

The announcement of a core Pokémon RPG on the Switch satisfied a lot of people who were disappointed that these games were for 3DS. Shouldn't the page be changed to reflect that?

I believe so. Very little is known about the game at this point, so there wasn't much meaningful audience reaction to trope aside from really nitpicky stuff.
