- Piers Anthony's Apprentice Adept series. The books revolve around contests in a wide variety of games, styles, and arenas, and the protagonist Stile always wins every single one of them. Except one that is simply a dice roll of pure luck with no skill involved, which is so briefly described and swept under the rug that it's easy to miss.
Not only does this vastly overstate how long Stile's journey through the Great Game takes in the series ( By the second chapter of Book 3, Stile has won.), it also downplays the drama portrayed in most of Stile's wins and the punishment he absorbs in winning some of them (he wins his semi-final dance contest by psyching out his opponent to the point where she beats the crap out of him.)
This smells of Complaining About Shows You Dont Like.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!This may be a stretch, but could One Piece's Roronoa Zoro be an Invincible Hero? It's been noted by fans that he always seems to have the easiest time with his fights, even more than Luffy who is stronger than him. While it's not like he doesn't struggle, what difficulties he does have in fights tend not to stem from the opponent actually challenging him but some external handicap, such as being previously wounded (Cabaji, Hachi), being weakened by not having all his swords (the Nyaban Brothers, Ryuma) or the opponent having some sort of gimmick that makes getting a hit to connect extremely difficult (Mr. 1, Pica). Typically, once the handicap is overcome, the opponent goes down instantly. The only opponent that actually seemed to match him in combat skills was Kaku, and even he lost immediately once Zoro pulled out the Dangerous Forbidden Technique. Thoughts?
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."If the hero/heroine looses a few times (say, once or twice) but otherwise keeps on winning easily, are they still an Invincible Hero?
Removed the following about Elliot from Leverage:
- Subverted in "The Two Live Crew Job", where it's heavily implied that his ex-Mossad opponent is clearly his superior. Cue Slap-Slap-Kiss.
First of all, it's heavily implied that they are equals not superior. Their imagined fights have her winning, then him winning, then both of them heavily beaten up with everybody else dead. More importantly though, when they actually do fight (later in the same episode) he wins (albiet through guile instead of raw skill)
Real Life section removed per discussion and vote in the Real Life Section Maintenance thread.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettI'm going to delete the Real Life and Video Game sections. This is a narrative trope, so Real Life examples don't belong here, and Video Games aren't a good representation due to Gameplay and Story Segregation.
Hide / Show RepliesI disagree with cutting the video game section. Some of them are characters who are an Invincible Hero through narrative reasons, though I agree with cutting the "Well, canonically they didn't die because you won" examples. Those are rubbish.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt was reverted and Very Melon suspended. He also unilaterally cut Foregone Conclusion's Real Life section. He's been a very naughty boy, yes he has.
Very Melon, (when you can see this again,) we have specific processes on the forums for determining when a section Should Not Be. The Real Life cut I could get behind, but go through the proper channels next time.
Edited by 69.136.247.136Alright, I'm fine with the narrative videogame heroes staying. We should discuss cutting video game examples that are more, as Larkman said, "Well, canonically they didn't die because you won" examples.
Axe those sumbitches. The only ones that you might want to keep are the ones with a sequel there the protagonist is Legendary in the Sequel as it implies that yes, they were pretty damn unstoppable.

- Of course, as usual, Doug is full of shit, and Skeeter calls him on it. In truth Quail Man is just Doug's rather pathetic power fantasy, where he can live out his dreams of beating up/killing the school bully and having a real relationship with the girl he has a crush on who he can barely talk to in real life but she is constantly lusting after Quail Man (in his fantasy only of course). One Quail Man episode even made a joke out of it...instead of being a different villain like every other time, this time Roger just says "fuck it" and decided to go after him as Roger himself not "Dr. Klotzenstein" or "Rogzilla" or whatever. Also, Quail Man is not just a boring invincible hero, he's a boring boring invincible hero. His powers blow (he's not that smart, can fly sometimes, and has special Deus ex Machina Vision) and his "intellectual" abilities amount to having a library card. Plus he won almost every battle he was in by giving his enemies the stink eye, which, of course, none could resist.
- Did... did Quail Man fuck your mom, or something?

Discuss it here, and try not to add it back until some form of compromise is met.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows. Hide / Show RepliesIt adds nothing beyond being a bitching fest. The page itself makes it very clear that this is not and article for bashing characters you don't like. That alone is sufficient reason for it to be removed. There's also the issue of it being natter, and that last sentence is entirely unnecessary.
I have to agree. I think Quail Man might qualify as an Invincible Hero (it's been way too long since I've watched Doug), but this kind of caustic comments about a character shouldn't exist outside of the Darth Wiki.
And he's one box down too! It's precious, really.
But seriously, I'm not sure that even belongs on Darth Wiki. I think dude would be better served writing some form of Anti-Quail fanfic.
I remember Doug and Skeeter got in a friendship-breaking argument because Skeeter's make believe hero, the Silver Skeeter, was a God-Mode Sue well beyond even Quail Man's abilities. That episode had QM so outclassed it was basically a Story-Breaker Team-Up.
Edited by EarnestResponding to an old post. That entry is hilarious, well-written and totally correct aside from mistyping New Powers as the Plot Demands. We need more like it.
More than once I have added an entry, a sub-entry actually, about a character from Doug. Since one was mentioned, I saw no reason the other wasn't. More than once it has been removed and so far no one has explained why other than saying "LOL NATTER" and acting like that's a response, sometimes not even that "open". Now I want a more direct answer one way or the other, what precisely is wrong with what I wrote (it's below the Silver Skeeter entry, FYI)? Is it because it has "curse words" or it's "really mean" or something? And what about it is natter, if anything at all. If there is a genuine problem, then I would like to have an actual response instead of some one-sentence "Natter, lawls! comeback because frankly I've run into this problem before and so far no one has even consistantly defined natter besides "I as an editor do not like this entry's wording!" which is what I suspect it actually means, practically if not literally.
To the point: Quail Man is a character from the series who is basically the Marty Stu fantasy persona of the (loser) main character. He fits every critera of this trope and then some (frankly Purity Sue and Black Hole Sue as well) and as a fan of the show who watched it from pilot to series finale, I have a mountain of evidence to back this up if need be. But so far no one has directly challenged it, so am I to assume that means there is no actual dispute about this fact? If so does that mean I'm also correct in assuming "natter" means whatever criticism the editors have at the moment? Because otherwise I would like to hear some actual objections.
As for the joke at the end of the entry I posted, I simply thought it was funny and see no reason why every page must be some sterile prattling off of facts. If that's a real problem (and I have no idea why it would be) or if my use of words like "fuck" and "shit" are (again, I can't imagine why) then I can re-write the whole thing to be just as sterile and prattling-of-facts as you please, but say so if that MUST be a requirement. So yeah...I suspect this won't get a response, but I don't care, I just want to actually hear someone either tell me what "natter" is in the entry or admit that word is meaningless—either way.
And before anyone asks: yeah, I'm "over-reacting". Sue me.
Hide / Show RepliesI have nothing to say other than I applaud this post and I totally agree with you.
Funny how the Doctor from Doctor Who was listed here, when according to the related to of Distressed Dude, he's been captured and rescued an AWFUL LOT of times. Hell, his Character Sheet specifically refers to the trope in seven out of his eleven incarnations.
Okay, can anyone tell me why the page title has been changed?
Hide / Show RepliesPossibly to cut down on the Complaining About Shows You Don't Like. Yes, this trope is largely a symptom of bad writing, but the whole 'boring' bit invited bitching to an extent that crowded out/was not directly connected to the relevant, informative examples.
In other words, some entries may have been added because of the 'boring', rather than the 'invincible'.
Edited by Iaculus What's precedent ever done for us?Plus video games pretty much contradict the boring part of the name since you have to win most of the time, its part of the fun.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!
Does [[Manga/Trigun Vash the Stampede]] count as an example? If I recall, the big bad sends all these menacing-looking villains to attack him, but it turns out they're all no match for Vash. They do cause a lot of death and destruction to the people he cares about, but Vash himself doesn't seem to ever be in any real danger.
