Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.

Ask the Tropers:
openRemoving examples
If an Unfortunate Implication entry uses a citation that is no longer available, is it okay to just delete the example wholesale, or just comment them out until someone finds an alternative citation to back up the entry?
openHelp to categorize
I want to add a work that is a direct-to-video miniseries. Where should I put it?
openIs it okay to have two accounts?
I'm aware that ban evasion is a one-way ticket off the site, but is it okay for tropers to have two accounts at the same time? I've noticed "two" tropers who edit the same pages and have left the same edit reasons but I don't know if that's okay or not.
Edited by iamconstantineopenFanMusic.Homestuck
FanMusic.Homestuck seems to be the only page in its namespace. Where should the content of the page be moved, if anywhere?
openGhost Wick?
I'm not very familiar with what Ghost Wicks are, so is this a ghost wick?
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Webcomic/West%20tree%20academy%20of%20heroes is on the "related" page for Fragile Flower, but the proper page for the webcomic, Webcomic.West Tree Academy Of Heroes, doesn't have any Fragile Flower wicks.
openTimeline/ as namespace
There is a Timeline.Lady Baby subpage. Is that allowed? To my best knowledge, this is not one of our namespaces in use.
The subpage was created by a fan of the group who has issues with my clean-up edits on the work page. Recently, I've deleted some parts of the description of Music.Lady Baby (it was too detailed and too long).
I guess it's a good compromise to move the content elsewhere, but I understand only approved namespace should be used on the wiki.
openHomophobic Troper
They first changed Ho Yay to No Yay, and then deleted the whole Critical Role Ho Yay page. And that's only the last two edits. In fact all of their edits are likely homophobic, except their first one back in 2014. Also, after their first edit, the next one was in 2018. Weird, and probably a sock.
Edited by pikachu17openQuestion about Spoilers and Character Pages
Handling Spoilers lists the following:
On a lot of page, spoiler characters are listed as "SPOILER CHARACTER" on the folder name.
Is that kosher, or should a more descriptive title be used? Coz really it feels like "SPOILER CHARACTER" isn't that different than just naming the folder with whited out text.
openRecreate "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"
Could I recreate the page for A Beautiful Day in the neighborhood? I could add more than three tropes. For example: edit: Sorry, finished the entry!
- Armor-Piercing Question: A lighter version than most. Lloyd asks Mr. Rogers, "Do you consider yourself a hero?"
- Audience Surrogate: Lloyd's wife tells him, "Please don't ruin my childhood."
- Friend to All Children: Mr. Rogers is good with kids. He beams when they sing to him on a train.
- Manly Tears: Lloyd eventually cries when talking with Mr. Rogers.
- Took a Level in Idealism: Lloyd comes to Mr. Rogers's studio cynically treating the interview like any job. By the end of the teaser trailer, the man's smiling and hugging Mr. Rogers with sincerity.
openTrope Repair Shop moderator
So about 10 days ago I made a post in the Trope Repair Shop, but it remains locked. Does it normally take this long for a moderator to review posts or is this a sign that my post simply wasn't approved for the forum and will remain locked?
openkids tv program or show Film
there was kids tv educational program when I was a kid, it had two aliens and computer that had a female voice that traveled around the world in a saucer teachings kids about ancient egypt, volcanoes, oceans etc I've been trying to find the name of this show/ program for years.
openTLP draft being "on hold"?
I looked at a TLP draft (not mine) called "From Zero to Hero" and noticed that the "launch" and "discard" buttons were covered up by a thing that said it was "on hold". What does that mean?
openHow to make a sandbox
To my embarrassment I don’t know how to make a sandbox. Can someone help or send a link that can instruct me how to make it?
openTroper with indentation issues
DKW001 has issues with indentation, even after a notifier was sent.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.Doonesbury#edit23312205
Here's the latest violation. Note that the entry itself seems to be natter too.
openReinsertion on YMMV page. Web Original
It's another YMMV.Death Battle discussion, so strap in folks.
Yesterday, I trimmed down an entry on the page's Memetic Badass section because I felt it was bloated and encouraged shoehorning (which I mentioned in an edit reason). Earlier today, Tropers.GF93 (edit history) reverted the entry without an edit reason. To compare, here are the trimmed down entry and the original/reverted entry:
- Roronoa Zoro, Raiden (Metal Gear), Zero, Akuma, and Vegeta, all of whom have won a Death Battle, a DBX, and a One Minute Melee each — even more impressive is that nearly all of them (sans Zero) still remain undefeated as of today.note Though only Akuma won both a Death Battle and One Minute Melee before the latter left ScrewAttack.

- By extension, Doomsday, Solid Snake, Kirby, Spawn, Miles "Tails" Prower, Monkey D. Luffy, Trunks, Sora, Toph Beifong, Black Panther, Yang Xiao Long, Noctis, and (shockingly enough) Hercule Satan — and if we're not counting losses or ties, Batman, Sonic, Mega Man, Guts, Meta Knight, Master Chief, Samus Arannote Technically, at least. While Mega Man was deemed the victor of his One Minute Melee fight against her, they didn't actually fight each other — rather, he defeated SA-X masquerading as her, and both fighters ended up teaming up to kill SA-X together), Dante, Thor, Jotaro Kujo, Ryu (Street Fighter), Spider-Man, Link, Scorpion, Sasuke, Mario, Terry Bogard, King Dedede and Captain Falcon — are all close to joining them as well, with each combatant needing one more win to have that same triple-crown status.
This isn't the first time I've had problems with GF 93's editing, but I don't want to take part in an edit war, so I'm bringing the topic here.
Edited by JRads47openGame Breaker Overuse Videogame
The Jade Empire page has, as of now, ten entries of Game-Breaker listed. Most of them come down to "This style is really strong" without explaining how it's power wasn't intended or how it is better than all the other styles — heck, one of the examples has an edit which specifically explains why a style in question is not a Game-Breaker. Can I do something about it?
openInappropriate TLP
This guy needs a tap on the shoulder to tell him about the policy for porn tropes.
open Looking For A Trope
Hey all! I’m looking for a trope that best describes a scenario I’m thinking about and I’m hoping y’all can help me out. The scenario is when someone casually reveals shocking information about either themselves or something else that shocks everyone else but to them it’s no big deal. Like if you’re having tea with a friend of yours and they said, “Yeah, I use to be a henchman for a supervillain who was trying to blow up the world.” and then casually goes back to sipping their tea as if they just told you what time it is. I ask this because I was thinking about American Dad and how Francine in one episode casually revealed to her family how she killed her roommate in college and acted like it was no big deal while her family was in shock. But anyway, sorry for the long text. Does anyone have any ideas of what’s the best trope for this?
openAdd a new fanfic
How do you create a new fanfic page? I know how to edit the fan work page but I don't know how to add something to it.
imyrnightmare has been making pages for webcomics of varying quality, such as this one with tropes that aren't alphabetized (though luckily that seems to be an exception). However, they all share a problem: the iamges are not in the right spot (below text rather than above it).
