Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help. It's not for everything, though. If entries don't adequately explain how they are examples of the trope then they should be removed. Especially if an "example" itself explains how it isn't an example. The one who edited that example blatantly violated Repair, Don't Respond and should be messaged so that they don't make more such edits on the wiki.

Ugh. Most of those are part of the gameplay. Mirabelle, Jade Golem, and Red Minister are the only examples that tread on Game-Breaker ground; the rest can be cut away.

Our standard practice with Zero Context Examples is to comment them out by putting "%%" (two percent signs) at the beginning of the example and leaving an edit reason. You can also mention what you did on the Discussion page.

It will no longer be visible on the page, but can be seen while editing the page.

If someone can add enough information to make the example legal, they can uncomment it.

For example:

becomes:

%% * Zero-Context Example

I feel that on YMMV pages, ZCEs should be outright deleted rather than hidden. At least when it's a trope, the example objectively does happen, so someone can fill in the details later. If it's YMMV, whether it applies and how is subjective, so leaving an example to be completed by someone else later probably won't work.

Likewise, if you've played the game yourself and know for a fact that it's Not An Example, you can just delete it outright. Comment tags are only for entries where you don't know if it's an example or not and there's not enough context to tell.

^^ Ya know, I'm generally against the idea of cutting ZCEs outright, but... you've a point.

I am not so sure. Oftentimes people who edit YMMV pages are noting opinions they have experienced themselves (say in web forums) even if they don't necessarily hold it themselves. So commenting out would be a better move even there.

^ Generally speaking, that might be true. Having played the game, however, I can tell you that these are misuses of Game-Breaker. It's how the game is supposed to work; you switch between styles/forms, and you're limited by your chi and focus bar. The only real game breaker is the gun because it subverts the typical Wuxia Never Bring a Gun to a Knife Fight mentality.

Game-Breaker is one of those that gets misused a lot. Often they would fit better under Minmaxer's Delight, for options that have so little downside or opportunity cost that there's no reason not to pick them, but that aren't actually so powerful as to be gamebreaking. Other times it's pure shoehorning; one option among many that is good, but not gamebreakingly so.

It's one of many tropes that could probably use a dedicated cleanup effort, but with attention split so many ways, nobody's really bothered yet.
