How's this?

  • Turning Red received high praise for much of its main cast coming from the heavily under-represented Asian-Canadian demographic.

[up] A bit on the short side, plus I've a feeling you cut too much from the original entry.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

Also, "received praise for" isn't the same as "attracted viewers specifically because".

Here's another attempt:

  • Turning Red is about a Chinese tween girl living in Canada during the early 2000s, and thus attracted many fans who could relate to those experiences as well as those who supported its novelty (not only is it the first Pixar film with an Asian lead, it's also the first directed by an Asian woman with an all-female creative leadership team).

This is on Invisible Jerkass, with an addendum that violates indentation and misuses "subverted". Also the main paragraph explains the drawbacks of invisibility, but not so much how it fits the trope (how the Invisible Man acts). Could anyone familiar with the novel offer a rewrite?

  • H. G. Wells' The Invisible Man deconstructs this trope showing us the real implications of invisibility and how they could affect an individual. To cite Jorge Luis Borges "A postulation of reality" the invisible man...
That character, a solitary student of chemistry at the desperate winter of London — finishes recognizing that the invisible state privileges do not cover the drawbacks. He has to go barefoot and naked because an overcoat and boots rushed autonomous could disturb the entire city. A revolver in his transparent hand makes concealment impossible. Before being assimilated, so does the food swallowed by him. From dawn, his nominal eyelids cannot stop light, and he should get used to sleeping with open eyes. Useless is also take his ghostly arm over his eyes. On the street, traffic accidents always prefer him and he always lives in fear of being crushed. He has to flee London. He has to take refuge in wigs, in smoked spectacles, faked noses like those used in carnivals, in suspicious beards, in gloves, so they do not see that he is invisible. Discovered, he begins in a village inland a miserable Reign of Terror. He wounds, to inspire respect, a man. Then the sheriff organizes a pack of hounds to track him, cornered him near the station, and kill him.
    • It's also subverted: considering he was willing to experiment on yowling cats and despised his landowner, Griffin was likely a prick from the start.

Once again, that leaves it as a ZCE. How is it deconstructed? You won't know if there's only the first sentence left.

[up] On second thought, you could add in the salvageable info from the natter-y bits to not make it a ZCE.

I mean, I actually do think the subbullet makes a valid point about it not being a straight example - Griffin was always a morally sketchy dude, he didn't just turn evil as a result of gaining the power of invisibility. It's the "deconstructed" bit that actually reads as complete gibberish to me.

The novel as I understand explores not only the bad sides of invisibility (what Borges focuses on) but also how he ruins his own life by cutting himself off from society as a result of his selfishness. In that respect it's fair to call it a deconstruction of Invisible Jerkass. The problem is that the entry doesn't explain that.

For No Celebrities Were Harmed, in the Comic Strips folder, I would like to add a note stating that two individuals with the same surname have no known blood relation with each other. To clarify, the folder mentions two different American men with the surname of Thompson: Hunter S. and Jack.

Is it acceptable to add that or is it natter, given that Thompson is one of the most common surnames in the United States?

After all, it is common practice to state any blood relations with any two people with the same surname in the same section, even if there are no known blood relations between them, to prevent confusion.

[EDITED]

Don't say it, since nobody assumes otherwise. There isn't any known distant familial relationship between them or anything that they share (not even being in the same work, because they're real people where surname sharing doesn't matter).

[up]If it's like that, then any two real people mentioned on TV Tropes who share the same surname and are mentioned in the context of different unrelated works, even if the works are in the same genre or same medium, are assumed to have no known blood relations with each other unless proven otherwise (and they have to be within a reasonable number of generations apart).

It would be considered natter if we keep mentioning that two real people with the same surname mentioned in the same section or even the same page have no known blood relation with each other.

Is that correct?

So Rufus' folder in Characters.Trails Series Erebonia Ironblood has a lot of natter problems. Here's one of them

  • Crazy-Prepared: Hoo boy, where to begin in Reverie. For starters, he has assets scattered throughout the empire and tells both Swin and Nadia that the assets that were confiscated from him were just a small portion. He also prepared clothes for Lapis to hide her joints and plants a transmitter in her to make sure they don't lose her. He has a spare mask in case one breaks, a RAMDA so he can explore with no one spotting him and can share the effects to other people as shown with Swin in his chapter 2 and the entire party in chapter 3, and finally he has sunglasses for when he wants to walk around in public. Randy calls him out on how prepared he is for any situation in the final chapter. That's not even on getting his golden Helmord that was loaded alongside Rean and Crow's Tyrfing's aboard the Arseille II.

Any other nattery entries I'm missing?

Found this under the Executive Meddling entry for Trivia.Thunderbirds:

  • ITV holds the rights to the series and refused to return them to Gerry Anderson or allow him to either remake or continue the series à la Captain Scarlet. By 2011, this was resolved, allowing the new series to proceed.
    • It wasn't "resolved", as that suggests that Anderson was finally allowed to make the new series - he wasn't involved in any way, and indeed production didn't begin until the year after he had died. ITV had been planning on a remake of Thunderbirds for some time, they just didn't see Gerry Anderson as needing to be part of the equation.

Thoughts?

[up] Yeah, that's definitely natter and a bit on the bashy side. I'd say just explain why they didn't want Anderson involved using the info from the sub-bullet point while keeping the first sentence.

On Reality Warping Is Not a Toy:

  • Subverted in Mage: The Ascension, of all places. The Marauders (the only faction prone to warp reality without explicitly meaning to) usually like what they get. Then again, they are all clinically insane. Played straight with the normal mages, though. Doing too much paradoxical magic results in the universe backlashing, which is not fun.
    • It's also why the various tools and mechanisms of magick are necessary for new mages. They can't accidentally affect reality because, at lower levels of Arete, a mage "knows" that they can only change things through a focus. With greater mastery comes the realization that the tools are unnecessary — and the control to manage without them.
    • Ultimately played straight for Marauders, as well. The price of their incredible abilities is that the universe doesn't enjoy being toyed with like that. Eventually, once they become strong enough, reality realizes who's screwing with it and snaps back - and the Marauder is no more.

Misuse of "subverted", and it should start with that first sub-bullet and mention how Marauders are an exception (or they don't care about it?). I could condense it together, but I would rather hear from someone familiar with the game first.

How could this example from Trolls Band Together be fixed? Note the movie is also still unreleased so it may reveal this stuff anyway.

  • Ass Pull: The trailer reveals that Branch has four older brothers that have been never mentioned before, despite the fact that it was previously stated his grandmother took care of him as a child without the presence of other relatives.
    • This can be explained by Branch being taken in by his grandma and by the time she died they where all long gone from his life.
    • There's also the reveal of Poppy having a sister that she never knew about which is inconsistent with the lore so far as Peppy would mention if she did have a sister.
      • All those Peppy is the kind of person to keep big secrets. After all he did keep the secret of the other non Pop Trolls from his entire people a secret to keep them safe.
