Content Violations Review: Fanfic.Billy And Mandy Of The Night

Billy And Mandy Of The Night has an actual plot that follows Mandy during her rise to power, but there are three scenes scattered throughout the story that point towards the fic needing a review. Specifically:

• In Chapters 7 and 8, Irwin stalks Mandy with the intent to take photos of her and eventually break into her home to take her as his sex toy.
• When we meet then-fourteen year old Dib Membrane in Chapter 40, we also learn that he is a Serial Rapist and cannibal, with his preferred victim being his sister Gaz. We also see Dib attempting to rape her on-screen.
• It is first implied in Chapter 39, then outright stated in Chapter 48, that Mindy paid Sperg to beat up and rape Trixie Tang, all because Trixie became more popular than Mindy.

While these scenes are all Played for Horror as the perpetrators are villains in this fanfic, keep in mind that they are all between twelve and fourteen years old, meaning that although they are not quite children anymore, they're still too young for these scenes to be in good taste.

Additionaly, the author makes it very clear that there are no lemons in this fanfic, but there is a consensual "intimate scene" that is somewhat hard to describe in Chapter 49, just before Billy and Mandy bring about Armageddon and establish their empire.

How explicit is the scene in question? I'm leaning cutward but if it's just mentioned I might give it a pass (Stephen King gets a pass for doing it in IT, though admittedly Stephen King has more street cred than a random fanfic writer).

While Trixie being raped is not described in detail, Dib only gets as far as pulling down Gaz's pants and underwear before being interrupted by a phone call from their father. Irwin is killed by Max before he can get his hands on Mandy. If you have the stomach, you can always read Chapter 40 yourself.

Edit: In the "intimate scene" in Chapter 49, Billy and Mandy are both 14 and are well into puberty.

The former stuff doesn't sound that bad. Ir doesn't sound any worse than stuff in svu.

Did some quick looking through the fic myself:

• The “Irwin stalks Mandy” part largely involves him being an obnoxious, disgusting creep. The most explicit thing that occurs is him attempting to lick her and grope her breasts, but Mandy punches him when he attempts to do so. He does aggressively fantasize about making her his sex slave, but ends up dead shortly after.
• The scene in Chapter 40 is disturbing, but seems to be rather brief and largely just involved him physically and emotionally abusing her. An entry on the work page says he “raped and killed and ate thousands of people, up to and including his sister”. I imagine the “thousands” are offscreen, but not sure about the latter.
• Trixie is indeed said to have been raped, but no detail seems to have been provided beyond “apparently some rich girl payed a bunch of warriors to beat her up and gang rape her”.
• The “intimate scene” in Chapter 49 doesn’t seem to involve any penetrative sex, but the two nevertheless get very intimate with one another, starting out with the two making out and eventually having Billy fondle Mandy’s breasts and suck on one of her nipples. (This is at least from what I could see from looking through; I couldn’t do it for too long because it quickly became very awkward.)

Very edgy fic. I’ll let others make their conclusions here.

Wiki policy lists 16 as the minimum age for acceptable depictions of explicit sex, so Billy and Mandy being 14 during this "intimate scene" sounds cut-worthy to me. Even if there isn't any explicit penetrative sex, the nipple-sucking sounds like too much for comfort.

I think that's only for Fanfic Recommendations, which is stricter than wiki policy. General work page policy is implied to be "no titillating explicit sex between under 18s, and no titillating implied sex between under 13s."

But nonetheless, I vote cut.

Er... yeah, "Character Derailment" and "Shock Value" is not a valid reason to cut a page. The sexual content is.

From the descriptions and the work's page, it sounds like a total shlock-fest and I have no interest in reading it. I'm voting for a cut. The scenes in question seem to be there for shock value at best (pedo-pandering at worst). The underaged sex scene alone is pushing it IMO.

While I still lean towards a cut mostly because of the intimate scene; I'd like to point out that although The Kite Runner is infamous for the scene where fourteen-year old Assef rapes twelve-year old Hassan in front of Amir, the book was taught in my English class during my senior year of high school.

Yes, and I've heard IT has a group sex scene among 11-year-olds, and Brave New World mentions a couple of toddlers having sex. It's not a hard rule, but in general we're leaning toward cutting this work unless someone comes up with a good reason to keep it.

And yes, there's definitely a bias in favor of works that are considered "literature" and/or significant over someone's web-published fanwork. In part this is because generally "someone over our pay grade has cleared this," but it is what it is. ISTR that the decision on Fifty Shades of Grey was "this should be cuttable on the merits, but it's a well-known and mainstream work and we're not going to do that."

So I guess what I'm saying is, you're right on all counts.

This is also the only fanfic by the author on Fanfiction.net that includes sex involving minors, so I doubt the author is a pedophile.

I don't think whether the writer is actually a pedophile is relevant but the skeevy scenes are. I don't think it's fair to compare Stephen King's It (I know said group sex scene wasn't in the film adaptation or the miniseries) or Kite Runner with an edgy Dark Fic. Anyway the sex scene here doesn't sound like it's Played for Horror like the other three scenes. We've cut works before for sexual scenes involving minors and don't see how this is any different. I'm still voting towards cut for these reasons.
