Has Michelle Yeoh ever won an oscar for best actress? If not that would be a good year to get one.
I haven’t seen Tár though.

She has not. But she is second in most predictions and I would personally pick her over Cate Blanchett (who was great in her role but has already one two Oscars). I was trying to list the frontrunners from what I can tell right now.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadDo you think we will get another moment like the slap this year?
If Everything Everywhere All At Once doesn't at least win best supporting actor, then I riot.

Yeah that seems to be like the main category it has locked from what I can tell.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMost people didn't know the awards were even on until Will Slap did his thing.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I thought I heard Angela Bassett in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was the Best Supporting Actress frontrunner—or at least is a lock for a nomination. I'm also hearing Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin is the Best Actor frontrunner. These are at least according to what Grace Randolph has said in certain videos.
While there's no Golden Globe nomination for it—and Diane Warren just got her Honorary Oscar too—"Applause" from Tell It Like A Woman (sung by Sofia Carson) could give her her official win in the category itself after 13 other times in it since 1988—and it at least has a chance at a nomination thanks to it being on the shortlist. I still need to study the song nominees at the Golden Globes. I called the Song nominees to a T last year since I was right that the Respect Aretha Franklin song would be left off in favor of Diane Warren's "Somehow You Do" from Four Good Days (sung by Reba McEntire).
Her chances are pretty good not just because it'd be her 14th nomination, but because excluding 2017, she's also been nominated every year since 2015 too. The Honorary Oscar is the only thing I see hurting her and whichever song wins at the Globes will determine the category.

As far as animated movies go, I feel like if Disney loses on any year, it'll be this one. I feel like either Del Toro's Pinocchio or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish will win it over Turning Red.
It's been 3000 years…I'd agree with these predictions of frontrunners overall. Best Supporting Actress is anyone's game, but I'm hearing very good things from the supporting cast of Women Talking...if Michelle Williams is entered into supporting as opposed to lead actress, though? I think she takes it for her performance in The Fabelmans.
My biggest hope is that Aftersun gets a Best Picture nom just for posterity's sake, but beyond that I'd be pretty content with these results. Blanchette is fantastic in Tár, but I could see Yeoh pulling off the win...meanwhile I think Ke Huy Quan is pretty much a lock for Best Supporting, even if Brendan Gleeson, Paul Dano, and Paul Mescal all put forth amazing performances this year.

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!Plot Twist: Hot Dog Fingers Michelle Yeoh wins best Supporting Actress.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Hugh Jackman (jokingly, probably) pleads with the Academy not to nominate Ryan Reynolds and Spirited (2022) for Best Original Song, on the grounds that it will make him insufferable to work with while filming Deadpool 3.

I wonder if Woman King will get anything. It’s a well-made film, certainly, but I learned it has a level of historical sanitization that makes Green Book look cute and my opinion of it plummeted. Lupita Nyong’o actually walked off after she learned how massively the film downplayed the Dahomey’s complicity in the slave trade.
Oh, and Viola Davis’ character never existed, I was astonished to learn. I thought for sure it was a biopic.
tl;dr expect controversy if this one gets a lot of love.
Also, go Everything Everywhere!
All I care about is Yeoh winning best actress.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Hugh, your misery will be a small price to pay for Marvel to be able to plaster "Academy Award Winner Ryan Reynolds" all over the marketing for Deadpool 3.

The nominees for Best Original Song are the songwriters, not the singers...does Reynolds have a songwriting credit on the film? (I know, it's a joke, but I'm just comprehending the future potential reality of Oscar Winner Ryan Reynolds)
About Woman King: I feel like Best Actress and Best Costuming will be nominations.
It's been 3000 years…I'd echo this, I think Viola is definitely getting a nom and costuming I could easily see. But this year is stacked is Best Picture potentials so I just can't see The Woman King sliding in, tbh.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!Honestly, I just want to see Top Gun: Maverick get, at the very least, nominated.
x4 I mean, I assumed so when I saw the video, but I don’t know anything about the film.
Apparently not, actually. Jackman just thinks Reynolds’ silly Christmas movie winning an Oscar for anything is enough to inflate his ego for a whole year.

As usual I am mostly interested in the Best International Feature Film. I suppose Decision to Leave (South Korea) could win.
Edited by gropcbf on Jan 8th 2023 at 9:08:12 PM
I think International will go to either Decision to Leave, or All Quiet on the Western Front (2022). Having seen both, my vote would personally go to the latter, but that's just me.
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!Honestly I think All Quiet on the Western Front has International Feature in the bag. At least in my opinion.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadUsually Disney.Pixar has two films in the animated feature category, do you think they are going with Lightyear or Strange World to pair with Turning Red? Or will they just indicate the latter? Regardless, I think this might be first occasion since 2018 in which Disney loses the oscars, possibly either to Puss in Boots 2 or to the Pinocchio they didn't make (barring the Lionsgate one).

oh hey how are you doing?
So, with Golden Globes only 6 days away and the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations not far behind, plus the Oscar nominations later this month, I thought now would be a good time to make this thread. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting. These are the frontrunners right now from what I can tell:
So, any thoughts or hopes for the ceremony. My biggest hope is that Brendan Fraser wins.
