Odd TV Tropes confessions

FWIW Relationship Voice Actor is currently in the TRS Queue due to questionable tropeworthines, so it's eventually headed to TRS soon.

Sometimes I skip out on sending notifiers if the questionable edit either contains multiple errors at once, or if they added so much in the edit that it would just be confusing for them to figure out what I'm talking about. I've sent custom notifiers during these cases in the past, but the tropers usually just ignore them so it doesn't feel worth it :/

I can't remember how to ^note  make these things most of the time and when I need to remember I go to Slippy-Slidey Ice World to check.

Balance, Power, Skill, Gimmick bugs me they never tell use the Gimmick of the game in the image.

Copying and pasting something something I originally posted in the Random Thoughts thread in response to someone else's post, since it's more of a confession than a random thought.

People who have looked at my avatar gallery may have noticed that I uploaded a sprite of a blue Shy Guy (this image◊) after uploading an avatar of a red one (this image◊), and it's because when I saw the red Shy Guy out of the corner of my eye, the fact that it was the same color as the PM indicator messed with my head. Props to old-school video game systems for their use of Palette Swaps.

(I wasn't a mod when I used those avatars, if that matters.)

The more I look at misuse of the Hindsight items, the more I ask myself if we should just cut them.

I'm aware. The choice of "Just some guy" as my current title is intentionally referring to myself in addition to Larry; quite a while ago I already added text to my profile page saying I'm not the most interesting man in the world regardless of that title being taken.

Well, there's that and the bulk of my mod work going to wiki maintenance basically being the wiki equivalent of an office worker due to it involving managing maintenance work instead of enforcing the rules (not that I don't do that as well; I just mostly leave that up to the other mods), especially since I'd imagine most people on the wiki wouldn't be interested in cleaning up the wiki as a whole (as opposed to sticking to works they like and pages that list tropes for them).

I've been contributing to the Names The Same wick cleanup... mainly because it's an easy way to increase my edit count.

Recently got the idea for a better mentality for me to have while troping: prioritise being certain of a trope rather than looking for where a trope might be.

Because of that prior mentality, I've forgotten projects/pages I was working on because they didn't seem finished, when by all means, if there's enough examples with context, it's already fine to consider it done. I didn't touch my sandbox for Alan Alone for over a year and only launched the page recently, directly from my Notes app.

In brief, I allow identifying a trope to come naturally to me when I watch/read/etc., instead of looking in solely to scrape for tropes. More examples can be added later if they apply, no need to stress about it.

Whatever floats your boat when it comes to helping with large cleanup efforts, because I don't think a person's reason for doing cleanup is important compared to the fact that they're doing cleanup at all. That said, wick cleanup has certainly increased my own edit count.

I personally think watching own or someone's edit count is a sign of a competitive behavior. On the other topic, I have just the right mindset to do monotonous tasks all day, so I'm a bit proud of renaming near two thousands Wiki.SCP Foundation wicks in a short time.

I finally got back to Uncanny Valley after giving up on it for a month to focus on Nano. The reason it was even a choice and not an unrelated issue is that I use my writing as a way to stay productive when wick cleaning and vice-versa, see I will tell myself something like "for every wick I remove I also write a sentence" so it takes longer over all but it keeps me focused and it keeps me from losing my mind with either task.

So basically I prioritize wick cleaning for when I have not only free time, but also writing motivation. During Nano though I wanted to get stuff done and didn't want to divert energy into dealing with wicks, even though it cost me about a month of wick cleanup.

I haven't done any crosswicking or alphabetization because of Nano. Because I'm still preoccupied with other things, I'm not sure if I can get back to them.

Most of my edits are wick clean ups and other maintenance stuff but I also add tropes to whatever work I happen to be following at the time. I want to get back into making work pages eventually.

No, I just find the comparison very odd ideed.

It would only be funny to me, but I have a weird desire to take the avatar and do an intentionally terrible MS Paint edit of Bob the Tomato's face on it.

I mean they're both mainly red things.

Odd confession: Having the looming dread of potential decreased mod activity during winter holidays, as I misremember last year when nobody could be contacted for a couple of days.

Did you mean to put "remember" instead of "misremember", or did you mistakenly think things were slower last year than they really were? Asking for clarification because I looked at the posts in the moderation discussion thread from last year and things were indeed slower even despite the new recruits from the previous month.

But anyway, I'll probably still be online, but since I don't usually handle Edit Banned appeals, the most I could do on that part of the site is tell people to be patient.
