Creator name/identity changes thread

Go To

This is a thread for keeping track of and updating the names and pronouns of creators who declare a different name and/or gender identity from the one they had previously been known by...and updating should mean "everywhere on the wiki", if possible. It's a daunting task, and that's why, when I brought up the recent case of Philosophy Tube, ~mightymewtron suggested making a project thread to keep track of and recruit help for these updates.

Right now, figures who've been mentioned as needing attention are:

It was also recommended to create a sandbox for changes, though I'll humbly request assistance on that part. I've never been involved in a forum project before.

Grant Morrison's pronoun change a while ago was impressively thorough as soon as it was announced, but I came across an entry on DarthWiki.Fallen Creator that was missed (likely because it's an aside while talking about Mark Millar, and the page is locked). I'm not sure if I should go to the locked pages thread asking for Grant's pronouns to be fixed, or if even mentioning them is unnecessary to a very long entry, though. Thoughts?

[up]DarthWiki.Fallen Creator has so much outdated information, especially given that it's locked and cannot be updated by anyone but mods.

[up][up] I'd shoot it through the locked pages thread, yeah, it's minor, but so are a lot of grammar issues and we don't just ignore those on locked pages either

[up] If you see something incorrect, take it through Fallen Creator Cleanup or Locked Pages. Saying there's a lot wrong with it here, in this thread, does nothing to help anybody

There's a mix of pronoun identities on Elizabeth Ludlow, particularly in the examples. Are we using she/her or they/them?

[down] Got it. Thanks for the response.

[up] It says on the page that they use she/they, so both are appropriate.

Should this thread also be used for companies/groups who've changed their names, or just for individuals?

[up]With companies, I don't see why not, considering that they're counted on the wiki as "creators" if they exist in a creative capacity (e.g. record labels, film studios, etc.).

As for groups such as bands and collectives, they should probably be analyzed on a case-by-case basis, considering the precedent set on this wiki by Joy Division/New Order and Lostprophets/No Devotion (both of whom changed their names after the frontman left, the former due to Ian Curtis' suicide and the latter due to Ian Watkins being a sexual predator).

[up] In that case, I can think of two companies whose pages probably need moving: Creator.Focus Home Interactive to Creator.Focus Entertainment, and Creator.Dontnod Entertainment to Creator.Dont Nod. However, I'm not sure if those rebrands resulted in the previous names being dropped completely (especially for the latter). What should I do?

So, given that LucasArts has been renamed Lucasfilm Games back in 2021, I’m thinking the Creator.Lucas Arts page should be moved to Creator.Lucasfilm Games. Thoughts or objections?

Eddie Izzard is now going by "Suzy Eddie Izzard"... this article does say 'she'll keep her public name as "Eddie Izzard"', but we're not sure what that actually implies.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

Speculatively, it sounds like a similar situation as Jim Stephanie Sterling, where the personal name change is public knowledge but doesn't significantly affect their branding.

A few months later, that does seem to be the case. Izzard still goes by "Eddie" professionally (e.g. website) and "Suzy" in personal life. News outlets seem to use both.

The page is now at Suzy Eddie Izzard though it's...probably fine, redirects still exist.

Bella Ramsey has gone from using any pronouns to preferring "they" pronouns. I updated their page and the Last of Us Trivia and YMMV pages accordingly, but there's likely entries about Ramsey on other pages to update as well.

Midway through one season of Drag Race, drag queen Monique Heart changed their stage name to Mo Heart, saying that they wanted to use something less gendered.

Should we update it on older shows as well?

Octav1us Kitten changed their main name to Octavius King a while back so I think the creator page names should be changed accordingly as well.

Their pronoun changes have already been applied to the main trope pages.

Nonbinary actor and drag queen Jinkx Monsoon has changed her legal name to Hera Hoffer to better reflect her trans feminine identity.

Drag appearances credit her via the Monsoon stage name, but the acting appearances seem to be a mix.

I've updated her creator page, not sure we have any other references to her old legal name on TVT.

Writing here because I don't know where else to go.

I recently browsed Funny. The Amazing Digital Circus, and I noticed that only in that page Gooseworx is referred to with they/them pronouns while the remainder of the wiki uses she/her. I even checked other sources online, and I've noticed that wiki sources use she/her while personal comments use they/them.

So, which pronouns are correct? maybe they use she/they?

(before you ask, none of Gooseworx's online handlers have pronoun tags)
