In a similar vein to Character Pages, Recap Pages are a near-constant source of problems and controversy. One of the biggest issues we have with them is that there's not a lot of consistency with how they're made. Some have images, others don't. Some are fleshed out, others are a mess of redlinks or even plain-text, with no actual recap pages to speak of.

In addition, there's also been debates about spoilers and what sort of tropes belong on them, whether or not they need their own YMMV pages...and let's face it, for the most part their quality is about as poor as any 2012-era work page, except many are a lot newer than that, just tucked away where very few people will see them.

So, after ages of considering this thread, I finally broke down and made the damn thing. Without further ado, let's get to work.

To make a long story short, that page should be cut.

So, what do you guys think we should do with the Recap.Game Of Thrones pages since some of them have Wall of Text summaries?

I think they're fine as is, considering the lengths of the episodes. Remember, providing actual recaps is one of the potential functions of the namespace. (The other being organizing tropes by series installment.)

Found some Rewatch Bonuses on a recap page for Scooby Doo Mystery Inc S 1 E 1 Beware The Beast From Below. ATT said to keep them only if they pertain to one episode, and to move them to the main page otherwise. Should the Spoilers Off page be updated to mention that?

It's the same issue as with troping Foreshadowing on Recap pages. There was some discussion about it a while ago (that I can't find), but I don't recall it going anywhere. Found it

[up] That suggestion is probably the best way to handle it without running into either a "spoilers on recaps" issue or an "insufficient example context" issue, unless an exception is made for having spoiler tags on Recap pages for these tropes.

Regardless, this is probably more of a Wiki Talk matter, so I'd recommend moving the discussion to the thread I mentioned

Planet of the Apes has a plot synopsis for all the films in the franchise. Now, having a recap page be a plot synopsis is fine for a film, but there's a few issues with this page. First, it's not just one film, but every film in the series. Secondly, it's unfinished. Only the recaps for Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath the Planet of the Apes have finished recaps. Escape from the Planet of the Apes is only partially finished and doesn't go beyond the first act. And all the other films simply have "To Be Done" listed under their section.

The page used to be on the Synopsis namespace years ago, and was moved to the Recap namespace in 2018. It was never edited ever since it was moved.

Now, a few months ago I did move the recaps for the first two movies to their own page (see here and here) and tried to submit the page to the cutlist, but it was rejected for whatever reason. Nothing was listed on the discussion page about why the cut request was rejected.

So, hopefully this thread might offer some consensus. Should this page be cut? It's pretty redundant and clearly unfinished.

Events.Azur Lane sounds like a recap page AlwaysFactCheck left unfinished, should it be cut or moved?

From what I can tell, the recap pages for The Octonauts all seem to be stubs.

[up][up] Events is not a valid namespace, so it definitely can't stay where it is. Since it lacks any actual content (all the folders are empty), there's no point moving it and it should just be cut.

[up] Yep. Additionally, their descriptions all seem to be plagiarized from IMDB.

You know when you find a really bad, incomplete, unindexed Recap page that doesn't link to any page, and you think "god, what Troper thought this was a good idea?" Then before you go to this thread to mention it, you check the edit history and... you had created it, and had totally forgotten about making it?

That's what happened when I found Recap.Mr Coat, something I made back in 2014 and had completely forgotten until now. Safe cut?

YMMV.Steven Universe S 1 E 1 Gem Glow

As recap is Spoilers Off, should they be un-spoiled or cut if they give away too much about future episodes?

I believe we're supposed to cut examples on recap pages that reference future episodes. Or they can be moved to the main YMMV page.

Questions about Recap.SCP Foundation, mostly due to them originally being under character pages until it was deemed too many didn't count as characters.

1. Many still have spoiler markup as a result. Should they be removed?

2. Many are formatted/split like so from when we tried to make them about characters:
Tropes associated with Pietro Wilson and his mechanical suit:
General tropes
As it no longer needs to be split into characters should such be removed?

I asked the SCP forum about this but it was ignored.

From SCP Foundation: SCPs 5000 to 5999:

FILESCP-INTEGER

SCP-INTEGER is a HAZARD COMPLEX that abstracts references to itself and instances of SCP-INTEGER-DIGIT. Such THINGS can then only be referred to using general terms. Incorrect labelling of SCP-INTEGER creates a new instance of SCP-INTEGER-DIGIT.
  • TROPE: SCP-INTEGER turns THINGS into instances of SCP-INTEGER-DIGIT, which have similar INFLUENCE.
  • TROPE: COLOR and COLOR denote identifiers concerning SCP-INTEGER and SCP-INTEGER-DIGIT respectively. Additionally, COLOR signifies the DANGER.
  • TROPE: Due to the nature of its HAZARD, SCP-INTEGER poses CHALLENGE to understand and describe correctly.
  • TROPE: SCP-INTEGER retroactively simplifies 'incorrect' designations and classifications of itself and instances of SCP-INTEGER-DIGIT.
  • TROPE: Despite the COLORED terms, SCP-INTEGER doesn't seem to be connected with THE FOREST WITHOUT NAME ...until you read the PARABLE.

I believe this is an inappropriate use of Self-Demonstrating Article if it potholes the trope names. Should that be fixed?

1. I'm not that versed in SCP lore. Does it even have plot twists? As far as I know they are single-page documentations that are partially already ridden with spoiler tags due to "classified" style, so I don't quite see how "unclassified" text is supposed to be secret.

2. Since it describes web-content, I don't see a problem with how it's handled now, and it's quite in-line with how recaps work, but SCP-5242 needs to be cleared up or moved to self-demonstrating page because we describe the tropes and not make own versions of that wiki's entries.

The pages linked on Recap.Tru Calling are ridiculously snarky, like snarky in a way that makes the old Glee recaps look like the most objective and neutral summaries. I only found them through an inexplicable pothole in one of them to So Yeah(!), which I've already removed. There are also "Analysis" sections in them that are just reviews of the episode.

Technically, recaps don't need examples because they also cover Synopsis/.

Haven't seen this dinosaur in a while. But yeah, I'd be more concerned that it would be faster to watch the episode than read the recaps, and reviews don't belong there.

According to the "Page Info" sidebar, these Recap pages go as far back as 2008, no wonder the page looks like that. I'm guessing the "<<|(show name)|>>" thing used to be how Recap pages were indexed.

Yes, as How Indexing Works tells, before the indexes were put on page they include and not the other way around like today, and should be changed on-sight accordingly.

I'm sorry, but the pages for the upcoming episodes for The Owl House were cut for "plagiarized descriptions" (among other things)? Isn't putting the episode descriptions from the official sources is what we've been doing with the recap pages since the start of the show?

I have things to do and daddy issues to repress!
