The Administrivia policy for works created in other languages is Troping Works Created in Other Languages. At the moment, this is focused on works with official translations.

More broadly, TV Tropes has a rule that the latest English translation will normally take priority over the original (some exceptions are listed on the Administrivia page), but many pages and examples still use older titles and character names. This cleanup is to help relieve that.

For policy discussions, see the wiki talk Translation Policy thread.

For pages needing work, see here: Sandbox.English Localization Cleanup

The manga by Ryu Fujisaki based on Fengshen Yanyi is licensed by Viz Media under the Japanese title of Hoshin Engi. The series has an article on this site as Soul Hunter, but only the 1999 anime adaptation uses that title.

On a related note, the 2018 anime adaptation is licensed under the Japanese title of Hakyu Hoshin Engi by Crunchyroll and Funimation.

This case is not like The Heroic Legend of Arslan; none of the original novels by Yoshiki Tanaka have been translated but the films and OVA series, the second manga series by Hiromu Arakawa, and the TV anime are licensed for English release under that title.

What do you think?

The manga (Hoshin Engi) is both the source material and the most recent translation, and it's already the standard the Hoshin Engi pages follow for everything other than the title.

Moving Mr. Gimmick! to Gimmick! (1992) per discussion. Should the custom title be Gimmick! or Gimmick! (1992)?

just Gimmick! should be fine since the disambig is to avoid overlap with Gimmick in the mainspace, not any other work named gimmick

Custom titles shouldn't be used to hide disambiguation, except for Title 1 retronym situations, which this isn't.

Mirai Robo Daltanious:

Wiki, IMDB, and, most importantly, Discotek itself have it as Future Robot Daltanious.

Thoughts?

That seems like a legitimate English subtitled release. A move is in order.

Yeah. Also wow Discotek does license really obscure stuff! The only country outside of Japan that cares for this is Argentina.

EDIT: Also shouldnt Hirogaru Sky Precure be Soaring Sky Precure?

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but I had a question about Super Mario-kun, currently listed as Super Mario Bros. Manga Mania.

It looks like the manga's been referred to as Super Mario-kun officially twice in English: Once as a costume in Super Mario Maker, and the other in the credits/copyright info of the best-of collection that has this title (Super Mario-kun Kessakusen).

According to the Mario Wiki, only the best-of collection has this title, as its localization is part of a series of best-of compilations from other authors (one includes a Kirby compilation with a similar title). Otherwise, it appears that the manga has had more volumes officially translated as Super Mario Manga Adventures (French title) or Super Mario Adventuras (Spanish title).

Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure: "released internationally as Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure"

Well, the page needs to be moved accordingly.

Juushinki Pandora and its related pages should be moved to Last Hope.

Reposting — with a few alterations — from the Ask the Tropers thread:

The Bleach series is no stranger to the official localization changing over time, such as the Soul Reapers' swords variously being called "Soul Cutters", "Zanpak-to", "Zanpakutou" and "Zanpakuto" over the years; or Ichigo's Sword Beam being variously spelled with or without a space ("Getsuga Tenshou" or "Getsuga Tensho" vs. "Getsugatensho").

From what I've been able to find, the official MASKED (released in Japan in 2010 and in the West in 2012) and UNMASKED (released in Japan in 2011, with no official Western release) artbooks, written by Tite Kubo himself, spells the Captain of Squad 2's name with Chinese characters (instead of Japanese ones, as with the other characters) which are pronounced "Soifon" in Japanese but romanized as "Suì-Fēng".

However, VIZ Media's English localization has phonetically transcribed her name as "Soi Fon" and continues to do so even in media released after the artbooks came out — such as Bleach: Brave Souls and the Bleach The Thousand Year Blood War Arc anime. However, the Character hub page and the Bleach: Thirteen Court Guard Squads 1-7 page — among others — refer to her as Suì-Fēng (or Sui-Feng for convenience).

What seems to be the case is that the Bleach wiki has prioritized Kubo's romanization (or spellings that make sense in the languages the different groups use) above VIZ's official English localizations — hence them using diacritics, and using "Tier Harribel" instead of VIZ's "Tier Halibel", "Visored" instead of VIZ's "Vizard", and "Vollständig" instead of VIZ's "Vollsterndich" or "Voll Stern Dich"; and the Bleach TV Tropes pages seem to — deliberately or not, as some of the Bleach wiki editors are also editors here — have followed suit. But to my understanding TV Tropes' policy is to do the opposite and prioritize the official English localization above all others, even if it turns out via Word of God that said localization is incorrect — as in the case of Berserk's "Band of the Hawk" being properly named "Band of the Falcon" but the English localization continuing to use the incorrect translation, with TV Tropes following suit.

So... what should be done in this case?

I'll manually handle the Last Hope situation once I get the chance.

EDIT: Mostly done, except for a Monster/ page and four sandboxes.

The Bleach situation's reversed itself from the edit war on the Other Wiki. Now it's "Vizard" which is official and "Visored" which the fans are trying to maintain!

I'd go with Viz over Kubo.

moving soaring sky to the proper international name admittedly seems like a pretty cut and dry case. glitter force is a separate can of worms but, as i point out often, pretty cure does have a concrete list of official english names on toei's website

Those English titles matter for the works released in English under those titles. (Is that too tautological?)

right, they've used these titles for all the pretty cure seasons released in english so it would be good to be consistent with them

Was the name Smile PreCure! used for any official English-language release? That one's the most controversial of the bunch, from what I've seen and done before.

Smile PreCure! is used on official Toei USA website, but most of seasons listed here weren't released.
