Random Thoughts: CompleteMonster

Seeking an outlet for potential off topic thoughts so that there can be more of a professional vibe on the Monster Cleanup thread. Also, random thoughts there has admittedly gotten me into trouble constantly and I’m now trying to do something to handle it too.

Trivia, random comments, jokes or anything that may be on topic, but you want cleared first by others is welcomed here. My hope is that this’ll provide a means of allowing those who participate on Monster Cleanup to speak freely to everyone without having to PM everyone they want to talk to.

While lulls in the Monster Cleanup thread often result in topics that stray from discussions, this helps to separate the two better and keep focus on that thread for approving, cutting or editing related to CM (Complete Monster) entries and eliminate the numbers of thumped posts as a result.

Civil reactions as well as votes on trivia are welcome too ( for approval/like and for disapproval/dislike). Please provide an explanation for either.

Please keep spoiler discussions for works that are yet to be discussed on the Monster Cleanup threads in PM.

I had a weird dream recently: I haven’t seen House of Cards yet, but I dreamt that Frank Underwood got cut.

Debating whether to keep my yes vote on alternate Thanos or not because while others bring up good points, I feel the radial changes in his character do make a difference.

Congrats to Josh Brolin for winning Best Villain though!

Not sure if changing Would be relevant at this point.

But that might be bias speaking as I think 2014! Thanos mitigating qualities don't hold up

Well the conversation is strongly in favor of him not counting, but I feel his love for Gamorra is forgotten when he discovers all that’s happened in another dimension. It’s hard to know if when he means snap everyone, he means including his own people or not.

It’s best not to bring it up on Cleanup thread again and thus, why it’s now here instead.

Thoughts on this and my other thoughts (MIIB and my dream)?

I actually think the 2014 one does still have redeeming qualities of his 2018 one.

Edit: Also I hate C Ms who were written to have redeeming qualities but don't. So it's nice to have a villain who has crossed the Moral Event Horizon but still keeps them.

@MIIB: What do you mean by "update"? She hasn't gotten any EP or further discussion, if that's what you mean. It's been a while since I've seen any of the MIB movies, but I'll trust 43's judgment on her.

@Frank Underwood: Interesting dream. I don't think I've ever dreamt of a character getting cut before (maybe a few getting EP'd).

I've not seen Endgame yet, so I can't comment on 2014!Thanos' mitigating factors. Although, isn't Ego worse? He tried to exterminate all life as well, plus he has the horrible murders of his own children.

In that case, Sarleena might actually count.

@Bullman That seems to be the beneral belief on the other thread and thus why bringing it up there doesn’t seem fitting. So how about him rightfully winning Best Villain? Thoughts on the MIIB and dream mentions in my first post on this thread?

@falcon Lighty said he considered checking out MIIB again when I suggested Serleena was worse than people remembered (her murders and her indifference towards the destruction of both Earth and Zartha). Alternate Thanos also tried to destroy all life.

Okay so you found a candidate you thought was a lame villain but proposed them and they got. I haven't, just wondering.

@falcon It seems like alternate Thanos because he’s acting more out of pride now instead of true belief that that’s why he isn’t a WIE like the other Thanos.

@Bullman Ahmanet comes to mind (not someone I proposed though). I was uncertain about her counting because they wanted her to be tragic when they wrote her, but she really wasn’t ultimately. There were candidates I had uncertainty with who I’m relieved were approved when I didn’t expect them to be (Poplović and Jafar come to mind).

I don't particularly like any of the C Ms I've proposed(maybe Skynet or the Humanite a little bit).

For me, I was worried that Ootakemaru, the Ultra-Humanite, and Marshall Eccelstein weren't going to get approved.

Oh I thought of one I proposed that I didn't like but went up to my surprise. John Dee from that Sandman Fan Film. I thought it might have been to similar to comic.

While I still haven’t seen Chilling Adventures of Sabrina yet, I wonder if their version of Katrina Spellman would count as a CM or be an Anti-Villain.

Katrina doesn't seem to be in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, at least not yet.

I take it this would have to be here and not under Long Term. This is supposed to go on indefinitely, but it’s clear that this is not serious business compared to Monster Cleanup.

@falcon Thanks again. So yeah, if they make Katrina a CM (when they bring her in), that means that Kiernan Shipka will not just have fought/opposed a CM, but played one too.

I haven’t looked yet, but basically unlike Toombs (and later Gregory), Lori only really kills Tree except for that one time that she kills someone else directly (one could argue setting Toombs free is very discriminatory given who he is, but it seems like she didn’t truly think about the full weight of that though).

So, what actors have fought and played a CM?

I know that Donald Pleasence played Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (CM) and Dr. Samuel Loomis in Halloween (Hero). Pete Postlethwaite was a heroic figure in Dragonheart opposing David Thewlis as King Einon, and played CM Obadiah Hakeswill in Sharpe. Diego Luna opposed Orson Krennic in Rogue One (Hero) and Jonah Pincerna in Blood Father (CM). Sophie Turner opposed several CMs in Game of Thrones and played one in the 2013 adaptation of The Thirteenth Tale.

Timothy Dalton played Rasillon from Doctor Who and fought against Frank Sanchez. Mel Gibson opposed Jonah Pincerna, Colonel Tavington, Lorentz Vogelmann, Arjen Rudd, Pieter Vorstedt, and Edward Longshanks, and played Luther Voz.

@falcon, @k4 I have a list somewhere on the thread. One of the most notable to me is Allison Williams (because Rose Armitage is so notable and infamous).

The Happy Death Day movies are great. I can understand why Lori wasn’t approved for the first one though. I highly approve of Toombs and Gregory each counting however.

It helps that I got a second Disney CM after Big Boy after all (the new Jafar), but time and understanding has helped to not be so bitter about Sinclair anymore. If anything, I’d like for someone to take a closer look at Nichols and Royce (Nichols at least because Royce seems to be too confusing a case).

On Ego being worse, That's textbook resources issue. The only reason Thanos is even able to attempt a body count simmular to Ego is the infinty gauntlet.

It’s easy enough to let go of alternate Thanos though because while the other Thanos got you to understand his motivations and see him as human, this version still subverted that and that was the point. By the end of the day, as empathetic as Thanos was, he is STILL a villain.
