Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki

Go To

Inspired by this thread, I've noticed that this wiki doesn't have a dedicated cleanup thread for negativity.

As we all know, Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, Creator Bashing and other negativity isn't desired on the wiki, except in a few selected areas like reviews and several Darth Wiki pages (and even then, with limitations). And yet, it's one of the most common sins wiki contributors can make.

So, if you find a page, TLP or discussion whose content seems like a straight-up insult or any other bitching - including complainy soapboxing -, you might ask here for help with removing said content.

The sandbox for this project is located at Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining.

VideoGame.Fallout 76

  • Tempting Fate: "We're gonna have 16 times the detail with all-new rendering, lighting, and landscape technology, and a map four times bigger than Fallout 4." [[EpicFail So much for that claim]]...

Epic Fail should be cut as it's No Real Life, but Tempting Fate isn't. What do we do tropes that effect the work in real life as opposed to the work?

The Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality page has a Critical Research Failure that reads as follows:

  • The psychology in general is oversimplified in the fic, mostly just re-framing it to fit the Author Tract better. The physics, however is uniformly terrible. For example, Harry's rant about shape shifting that appears as the page quote is correct in that it violates conservation of energy (which strangely didn't bother him when the levitation did it), but the details are nonsense suggesting the author knows the terms but not the underlying concepts (you actually can have unitarity without the Hamiltonian or conservation of energy and none of that has anything much to do with FTL signaling). Especially since he focuses on the relatively minor quantum effects instead of the reality-shattering and much more obvious implications in thermodynamics.

Now I might be biased here, but that just seems like someone who studied physics came to complain that the author didn't bother to learn quantum physics before reading the story. Critical Research Failure is supposed to concern violations of common knowledge; I had physcis in high school and I know little of such concepts. Even if we deem the example valid, it could use a rewrite due to the antagonistic tone.

Apathy is Death. Worse than Death, because at least a rotting corpse feeds beasts and insects.

[up][up]That reminds me of this example of Good News, Bad News on Dragon Ball Kai:

  • Good news! Toei commissioned the Buu Saga to be created for the series. Bad news? They didn't have Q Tec work on the series, which has resulted in the show not having as clean a remaster, a weird green tint, permanent cropping, and the Hell scenes being retained for some reason, even though they completely contradict not only prior continuity in Kai, since Goku never went there, but also later continuity with what's shown of Frieza's Hell in Resurrection 'F' and Super.

Also, just have to point out that the 76th page started with Fallout 76.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I have a question about this entry from Fire Emblem: Three Houses:

  • Story Branch Favoritism: Averted compared to Fire Emblem Fates. While Edelgard's route may seem like the "favored" route due to generally having the most promotional time compared to Dimitri and Claude, she is also a major antagonist on the other three routes, being the penultimate threat on two of them and the Final Boss on one of them. And each route (save arguably the Silver Snow route, which shares many story beats with the Verdant Wind route) are fully realized and tell a different side to the story. And unlike the Revelation path of Fates, there is no Golden Ending.

I'm not exactly sure why the entry feels the need to bring up Fates, but I suspect that the entry seems like it's trying to stealthily complain about Fates, given how that game is quite the complaint-magnet on this site. I don't even think the Fates comparisons even add all that much to the entry.

[up]I say remove all together since there's been issues with using Aversions.

This entry on Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair sounds like misuse and complaining:

  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The plot's main conflict was created internally, solved internally, and had little impact on the ongoing war against despair, besides getting Naegi accused of treason for all his good intentions as of Danganronpa 3 (with Kirigiri saying that even with the main characters getting a happy ending, their job still isn't over). Some have derisively referred to the whole kerfuffle as a glorified rematch between Enoshima and Fujisaki from beyond the grave.

Case in point, the very first paragraph of the description

It's also known as that show where Jennifer Love Hewitt traipses around in vintage clothing, often low-cut. The episodes follow a formula: Ghost makes its presence known, Melinda flutters about trying to help, Melinda helps the ghost with its business, everyone cries, ghost goes into The Light. The few instances where that doesn't happen involves the ancient spirits that inhabit Grandview, Melinda's town, and some prophecy involving Melinda and her abilities.
I took the liberty of cross posting this into the Improving work and creator page descriptions thread.
[up][up] I'm not sure. As written in not sure it follows the trope definition of "a plot with a high level of build-up and complicating action, only to be resolved with an anti-climax or ironic reversal, usually one that makes the entire story meaningless."

It sounds like the events of 2 aren't relevant to the events of 3, but that's not the same as saying 2 rendered its own plot meaningless.

Under Harsher in Hindsight:

  • Melanie Martinez has written a few songs with themes of abuse and rape. While the events in the songs were played out as bad, it all becomes a lot creepier after an ex-friend of hers outed her as a rapist.

Is this kosher? It sounds definitive, but from what I've heard there were only allegations.

From YMMV.The Kings Avatar

Can't Un-Hear It: Expect plenty of criticisms from viewers of the animated adaptation (primarily non-Chinese audiences) to state how uncomfortable or unexpected it is to hear Chinese dialogue when most animated works from Asia are produced by a Japanese studio using a Japanese voice cast. Irony ensues when the producers recycled some of the same voice actors from the animation into the live-action by dubbing over their actors.

The text it criticizing on how weird it is about watching a non anime animation with Chinese voices then about how people tend to associate actors to roles.

Well you could probably remove that entire Broken Base section since its all one side complaining.

Where do you even start with Cool Cat Saves the Kids? Pretty much every paragraph is bashing the film or the creator. Then there's the long tangents on the creator's behavior. That's the problem when a work's page is only contributed to by people who watched a review that bashes the work.
