Apparently The Dawn was animated as well? I HAVE TO GO FIND IT

When you find dawn, let me know.
Fight smart, not fair.So what kind of turnaround are we looking at if they've just started dubbing, until release?
(I know nothing of this area)
"When you cut your finger, I do not bleed." Response of a man who lived on the outskirts of a concentration camp.Definitely gonna be sometime next year. Just when though, I have no clue but we might be looking at a Spring release.
So supposedly the english release of the last 2 volumes is late October! 28th I think? Sounds amazing if true.
Volume 7 is probably the best one so far. The CGI in volume 8 was terrible though and overall the animation was kind of a step down from before. The anderson-Alucard fight wasn't as good as it should've been.
More or less three years since the last post about this series?
(*Dusts off thread*)
If it weren't for the newest (eighth as of this post) episode of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged (and finding out that the actual OVA series is complete), I'd have forgotten about this entirely.
The last time I watched Hellsing Ultimate, only two or three (fansubbed) episodes were out at the time and I just finished the TV anime—an OK introduction to the series, but it did leave me wanting more like a vampire thirsting for blood.
But because of the long wait involved with the OVA episodes after the third one, I put the series on the backburner for quite a long time (while being swamped instead by a torrent of Moe anime, Moe Idol Singer anime, Military Moe anime, Ecchi anime, and the rare mecha anime)...until episode 8 of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged was uploaded, reigniting my interest in the show.
Man, Millennium's attack on London makes "The Ginza Incident" look like a picnic in comparison. But that music, though... ("Broken English")
Also, I feel like rewatching it again with the English dub. (Though I'll probably hear echoes of Team Four Star in some of the characters...)
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."This is one of the few anime I haven't really cared for the dub. Not that it's bad, but not spectacular. Alucard's Level 0 sounded cooler with the "Waaataaashi-wah! Misss-karah! Hanayo-kura-yee!"
And the Abridged version was even better than that.
Have fun with the last few episodes. As great as Hellsing looks for all the time put into it though the final two episodes left me wondering if there was ever really any point to this series. It's certainly a pretty-looking gory finale. And it technically ended with more closure than the TV anime gave us... which, given what happens, really says a lot about how awful the TV Anime's ending was.
Though I liked the TV anime's final battle a little more - Alucard disappearing like a phantom, the way pieces of him and Incognito would get blown away as though a bear had taken a bite out of them. I preferred that to watching Alucard and Walter go all DBZ on each other. Also, Alucard actually finding satisfaction in an opponent as opposed to getting tricked into becoming Schrodinger's cat.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Personally I think Crispin Freeman fits Alucard way better.
Plus in English we get to hear the Major's gloriously hammy voice acting.
I don't really think tight plotting and general story development were a big consideration with Hirano - or at least, it didn't feel like it was. Alucard is so overpowered it's hard to imagine that he'd ever lose to anyone, and the ways they found to circumvent that were not exactly all that satisfying.
So I've started the English dub rewatch of Hellsing Ultimate. Just finished episode 2 and thoroughly enjoyed the English voice of Jan Valentine.
Also chuckled upon finding out that both the Japanese and English voice of Luke Valentine would later go on to voice Dio Brando.
Makes me wonder if Stardust Crusaders-era Dio (a.k.a.: DIO) would be able to go toe-to-toe with Alucard... (Ah, who am I kidding? Especially if we're talking about "Restriction Level: Zero" Alucard. Then again, Heaven Ascension DIO might be a relatively better opponent for Restriction Level Zero Alucard...)
On a different note, I wonder: Was Kouta Hirano also influenced one way or another by Hirohiko Araki's work?
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Probably.
Anyone else other then me thinks that Hellsing and Drifters take place in the same Universe?
If Alucard were to ever Perma die, I could see him being sent to it by Murasaki. That or be recruited by E.A.S.Y. instead.

I'd not heard it was inspired by Gundam though. What's your source on that?

All I know about it is that House Harkonnen is the villain in the first Dune novel.
To be fair, the dual Harkonnens that Seras wields during Millenium's attack on London had extra large ammo backpacks that made her look like the GP-03 Dendrobium mobile armor.
As Abridged!Alucard says, "Bitches love cannons."
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Actually, I take back what I said about the dub. I might just have a hard-on for piano music, but, I did like this scene which is probably pretty spoilerrific if you haven't seen the last 3 OVA episodes I think.
Anderson's sad recognition of Seras, her transformed voice and confidence, the maniacal look in her eye matching Anderson's own. It's all pretty striking for a series where basic humanity is sort of stepped on and ignored in favor of brutality and ruthlessness. "Yes father, and I'm getting stronger all the time. I don't think I'll be afraid of anything ever again."
"It's as if your eyes have become windows to a bottomless abyss."

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!As much as I recall not liking Ultimate on rewatch
This scene still gets me.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I think Jan might be one of my least-favorite antagonists ever. The archetype of "mouthy smartass who's all talk" always rubs me the wrong way.
He's not a particularly deep character but... eh, he wasn't supposed to be.
On a different note
"It's as if your eyes have become windows into a bottomless abyss..."
The way Anderson says that, and the crazed look in Seras' eye when she says "I'm getting stronger all the time. I don't think I'll be afraid of anything ever again."
Chills.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Amazon Studios is developing a live action film with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad writing the script. [1]
"I temper my sense of decency in expectation."
This is going to be a terrible affront to the series, isn't it?

I'd noticed we either didn't have a proper thread for this or the previous one was lost, so I thought now would be as good a time as any to make one. I mean, now that the 8th OVA has been subbed :D
AMEN!
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial
